Droid X File Manager vs Astro - Droid X General

I was considering ditching my old stock Droid X "File Manager" app for Astro, but I'm hesitant to do so since the market doesn't have the generic stock one for me to redownload. I discussed this in another thread of mine and the guy that responded said with Titanium backup on my phone Astro is kind of useless. I'm not 100% sure of that. Any thoughts?

Just install Astro and if you don't like it delete it...It doesn't hurt to have both
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

I already installed Astro once and liked certain things about it, but the stock file manager has something called "Shared Folders". I was afraid that uninstalling it might mess up the "Media Share" app since Astro doesn't have that particular feature. Other than that I think Astro is more expansive and runs much more smoothly. Does uninstalling the stock file manager mess up Media Share?

Well I guess the OCD in me want my phone to be as "clean" as possible. I hate for apps I don't use to be running in the background and I hate running multiple apps that do the same thing (like "Social Networking" vs Tweetdeck"). Anyway, I appreciate your input. Thanks.

Uh freeze the apps with titanium backup, esp sys apps, then you don't have to worry about trying to reinstall them if they cause malfunctions...
{~DX«Fu$¡¤Π»2.0~}

Nevermind about Astro. I paid for "Root Explorer" last night and I'm pretty darn sure it's superior to any other file manager that I've seen. Also, I renamed the stock File Manager app to ".bak" by using Root Explorer, so now I don't have to worry about reinstalling it if I wanna use it again. I wish I'd done that with all the apps I've uninstalled in the past.... :-(

+1 for Root Explorer.

Root Explorer is by far the best with functionality. You can also get Explorer, which is the free version of it.

Root explorer is MILES ahead of all others hands down.

I just put root explorer on my wifes dinc and it is definitely the best one out there. I just hope she is careful with it lol

Yeah man. Root Explorer = WIN
It makes the stock File Manager and Astro look useless. Lol.

Market apps not installing

I had two updatede apps today. They downloaded fine but won't install. Don't know if it's a Market issue or something with my device. Any ideas?
Sent from my rooted DROID2 using XDA App
Ok. New apps will download and install but still have the issue with updating apps.
Sent from my rooted DROID2 using XDA App
Usually an uninstall and then reinstall fixes apps that don't update.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Tried that. Also cleared Market cache and data. Done several reboots.

Read in another thread that it could be an issue with Google servers. Has anyone heard anything?

It is a google problem, the same thing is happening on the hero Just wait for them to fix is probably the only thing we can do right now
Same thing has been happening to me. I have just been clicking the update and then immediately clicking on the name of the app I just downloaded and watching the download and install meter and it works for me everytime.

The issue was with apps on the memory card. Had to move them to phone memory, update, then move them back to the card. Annoying.

Possible, maybe why they're having market issues
Not sure it's the Market now. Since I couldn't get Angry Birds to updated I tried getting it at GetJar. That wouldn't install either.
Sent from my rooted DROID2 using XDA App
Ok. Completely lost. ROM Manager successfully updated but Angry Birds still won't.
Sent from my rooted DROID2 using XDA App
I'm having almost the same issues. It started yesterday when I accidentally unistalled the wrong app. When I went on to market to re-download it and found it sat in the ongoing downloads going nowhere along with several others. I cancelled them and started them again one by one. They all downloaded and then failed to install. After that they all appeared in the downloads list but say "FREE" next to them instead of "Installed".
I know that, apart form the first app, all of them are definitely installed. Rebooting the phone made no difference. I also removed the memory card to see if that helped. At that point I managed to install the first app.
I put the SD card back in and the problem returned. Most of the apps I have installed on the SD card only appear in my downloads list intermitently, and I still can't install or update anything from the market with the SD card in the phone. I also am having issues re-installing backups and non-market apk's.
Have I done anything to the phone to make it do this or is this a Google issue? I'm using a rooted T-Mobile UK desire on stock 2.2 with ModInstallLocation set to external.
Thanks for any help or advice.
I also get Free instead of Installed.
Sent from my rooted DROID2 using XDA App
And now new apps won't install.

Ok. Was able to update apps and install one new app. Still can't get other apps to install. At this point I'm open to crazy possibilities.

I hope I don't have to wait for 2.3 given how long it takes Verizon to release an update.

Just found this app (thanks to a forum member!) and I'm wondering if I can use it to uninstall apps I don't want i.e Dungeon Defender.

I'd be curious why you don't just do so through the Market? Either way ES File Explorer is great -- I use it to manage files on my server both through FTP and my local network. Fantastic app it is!

You can get rid of anything in /system/app just by renaming it so it doesn't end in apk.

My bad didn't read far enough! I just tried unrooted and it was unsuccessful. Back on the phone it was easy to do. Not sure if its the same as I'm waiting to root. But go to the menu, click manage, then apps. Again rooted may be a different story.

Don't you need root to be going around and messing with system files? Pretty sure you do, but I might be wrong.

if you search for the guide on how to debing the fascinate, the process is exactly the same. You don't have to delete the apk that's makes it go to bing, you can just but a .bak after the .apk. the file is in /system/app
I think it's called i500_BingSearchAndroid_*lots of numbers*.apk
I put dolphin hd on her phone and the google service pack for it instead. She's happy

My Market App disappeared, strange....It was there, icon is there, but app is gone.

It is weird. I had the app and used it and now the icon is there, but it wouldn't work. Then when I looked in the app area it isn't there. I have Kings speed Rom I think. I'll have to check to make sure. It has sense 3.0. Has anyone had their market vanish. I see post where people are asking how to install it, but I've always had it for like 2 weeks.

Reflash the rom without wiping data - just wipe cache and dalvik. You of course have to know what rom you're running to be able to reflash it.

You can pull the market apk from the rom via 7zip or winzip or whatever, and push it to your /system/app/ folder

I signed onto android market on my pc and tried to download it and it kept saying the app is not compatible. I just realized it is an app for an android tablet. I need to figure out where to find the regular android market for a phone. I did a search on market.android.com and it keeps finding the tablet version.

Rom Toolbox Pro or Titanium Backup Pro, Root Explorer, etc.

Hello everyone, I wanted to get your guys opinion on which one is better Rom Toolbox Pro or Titanium Backup Pro & Root Explorer. I recently played around with Rom Toolbox in a friends phone and wow I was pretty impress with the short time I had with it. It seems to do everything Titanium Backup and Root Explorer do and then some. And I'm wondering what is your guys take on it. Since I was finally gonna cough up the money for titanium backup pro but then i was introduce to this and now I'm contemplating which app should I buy.
Thanks in advance.
Why don't you try them all and decide.
You can download them from the market.
I like TitaniumBackup Pro and Root Explorer separately.
Cheers

I have all 3, and love them all. ROM toolbox has more options, but Titanium Backup gets updated more. Hopefully Titanium Backup will be around for many more phones to come...

I tried the free version to them, except root explore cuz their isn't one. But the reason I was asking is because I'm not sure which one I should buy the Pro version to. Honestly I'm not in a situation to be spending a lot of money, so was looking for only one (at the moment). I think I might end up going for ROM Toolbox Pro. But I was a bit undecided since people only mention Titanium Backup when it comes to backing up your apps/data.
I use all 3, but if I had to choose I would go with TiBu and Root Explorer. Both have worked flawlessly for me for a long time, and as was mentioned, TiBu updates are frequent. Rom Toolbox still needs to become established imo to warrant replacing the other 2.
Hoping to revive this thread because of recent app update...
I am also looking for opinions about ROM Toolbox Pro: I have used the free version a little, and it has undergone a pretty extensive update in the last couple of days....
Wondering if it's worth the $5.00, since I've already paid for the usual tools: TBPro, CWM paid version, SUElite, etc...
Anyone used the new Pro version much? and what's your opinion of its capabilities???

I have the paid versions for all 3, for most common uses tbpro and root explorer are all that's needed, toolbox does add the features from the two plus boot animation (most do not fit our screen), the font changer is nice, about the only thing I really use much with toolbox. Toolbox has a few other features, but I'd say if you already own TB and root explorer then there is no real need for toolbox unless you want to do away with the other two apps and just have an all in one app.

Titanium backup pro and root explorer all the way.

I have Rom Toolbox Pro and Rom Manager Pro along with Root Explorer and all 3 I use for different things. Rom Toolbox just keeps getting better and better, it really is making a fanboy out of me. With scripts to turn off camera sounds AND speed up the file system and the ability to run them at boot AUTOMATICALLY with one click? Epic +1. Root Explorer is just friggin awesome and I don't know what I'd use if I didn't have it.
Titanium pro wins for me.Rom toolbox has force closed on me twice (been installed for over a month) over the weekend. Root explorer comes in second.
