Default Lock Screen - Vibrant General

I was wondering if anyone knows how to enable the default Android 2.2 lockscreen vs the one provided by Samsung? The look of the Samsung one has always kind of annoyed me, and I prefer the stock android one if possible. No big deal if not, but just thought I'd check to see if it could be done anyway (running the stock 2.2 update that was just released, in case that wasn't implied)

actually im interested too. i hate the 2.2 samsung unlock screen. mine doesnt work most of the time, i have to swipe from top to bottom across the whole screen to work. i enabled the password puzzle in the mean time just to get rid of it.

are you talking about this?

Looks like that should work, thanks for the link. I guess I was hoping for something a little more basic that just changed the lock screen and nothing else, but I'll take what I can get

My Screen is Touching Itself

Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago I noticed the bottom left of my screen would activate by itself repeatedly. This mostly seemed to happen when I was trying to type something. It carried on for a while so tonight I flashed a romkitchen rom (2.3.3) (I was on 2.2.1 before), thinking it might be a bug in the system somewhere. Well the problem is still there and I;ve discovered it's always that same corner of the screen that does it no matter what orientation I have it in. I can't even sign into the market at the moment because it makes it impossible to type and the screen ends up freezing until I press the home screen.
Is there anything this could be other than a hardware issue? I did a full factory reset etc during the flashing process.
If I need to send it back would I need to flash it back to stock? I bout my phone from O2 in the UK, where can I get the correct firmware? samfirmware has loads but how do I know which one I need?
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue. Did it ever get rained on or something? Do you use a screen protector?
You might want to edit the topic title, although it is quite funny. Read it and think a bit.
ROFLMAO
That is by far the funniest thread title I've seen on here yet
It does sound like a hardware issue though.
Hehe....nice title

Yeah I agree with the person who suggested it was a hardware issue. Always worth getting someone to check it out for you

No water damage or anything. I do use a screen protector but it looks flawless in the affected corner

It happens at random. Sometimes it works fine. Not related to being plugged in though
I know someone that had the same issue, though it was with the Vibrant (not i9000m). He sent it to samsung, but it still has the same problem, though not as frequent. I haven't seen him in a while so I'm not sure if he ever got it resolved...

Just to eliminate all possible outside influences, take the protector off and clean the screen really well - and see if it still does it. If it does, then bring it in and try your best to be convincing

I'll see how it goes with the protector off. I think my screen is failing though as now on occassion the screen will completely freeze and I have to put it to sleep and wait a few minutes for it to start working again.
Can anyone point me in the direction of carrier specific stock firmwares? I can only find stock android ones.
Thanks,

this is so true
I've had the same problem. Unlocked SGS on Orange UK. The problem was on/off for a while but eventually got so bad I couldn't use the phone, removing screen protector made no difference.
I stuck an old Froyo build on and took it into carphonewarehouse, they sent it off and it was fixed in their repair centre. No problems since and that was 4 months ago.
Not sure how you would go about getting the operators rom on there but I'm sure you can mess around with Kies to get it to download the one you want.

Try samfirmware.com, down at the botton of the GT I9000 firmwares are the provider's ones.

Think that's what I'll have to do then. Hadn't thought of using Kies, thanks for that. I'll whack a stock 2.1 rom on there and see if it will update to 2.2 through kies.

[Q] Removing ripped off message from Vegacomb?

Hi guys,
I just got a vega today and the first thing I did was install vegarom.
That message that pops up about being ripped off is horrid. Can I remove it?
Thanks
(Please don't flame me)
I don't mind switching it with the logo of the team that built vegacomb, I just don't want that nasty message there

I would like the same thing on my device too.
Not very appealing everytime I restart it or when someone sees that screen. I know its there to warn people to not get fooled by some Chinese rip off suppliers, but would be good to have some alternative there.
This isn't something that I really want to encourage if I'm being honest. But if you want to do this yourself, I will give one hint:
*.rle - It's in boot
newbe5
Thank you for your hint
Do you have a file, perhaps with your team logo I can replace it with?
You're welcome to pm me

Or maybe make it look a little bit nicer?
Or could it be done so that it only comes up for the first say 3 times you turn the Vega on?
It's an all-or-nothing thing I'm afraid. It was made intentionally to be very in-your-face, to stop people from missing it

Oh, ok. Well though I'd rather replace it with your logo (or something) I can also just remove it.
I appreciate your help!

Can some one please PM me how to do it ? I am not quite sure where the file is located at and can't search for it using the app I have.
Many thanks
I'm also struggling to find anything. From what I've been reading there's a boot partition named mtd2 and I think, based on my limited knowledge, it could be in there.
I'm not sure if that is or could be writable, or if you have to extract the update.zip and edit it, then having to reflash the vega in order for it to go away. I can donate to anyone interested in figuring it out.
Either way, I'm determined to get it removed, it irritates me every time I turn my vega on.
It certainly doesn't help that when I adb shell into it, all I get are random letters and numbers when entering "ls" so I have no discernible way of telling where I am or what I'm doing most of the time. Oh, and debugging seems to disconnect itself from my laptop every 5 minutes, requiring a reboot to get back into it.
You need to unpack the boot.img, replace the file newbie5 said. Then repack and flash the modified boot.img
I am not going into more detail as newbie5 does not want it to be made to easy, I can see why.
You don't need to, thanks. I read it elsewhere on XDA and assumed it would also work in this case.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I have sorted it.. much better!
I'm not sure if something went wrong with the repacking, but I've had some random reboots since. Trying to figure out if it is related.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Scrap that, reboots were unrelated and have stopped

How big a deal is this? I don't get it.
I'm curious - how often do people reboot their Vega's? I boot might maybe a couple of times a month and then, the screen is only visible for a few seconds so it's number 657,391 on my list of things to worry about.
IMHO the value of it far outweighs a few seconds a month.
I turn mine off/on many times during the day.
If it doesn't concern you then that's fine. Move along now, there's a good chap.

I couldn't agree more. What was your vega like out of the box? What is it like now?
Jesus, small price to pay for the the team trying to protect their VOLUNTARY work.
Good way to get rid of it? Don't use this rom.
Better way to get rid of it? Edit boot.img.
Do you hear that? It's the sound of me having my cake, and eating it too.

Potential buyer hinging on removal of BlinkFeed from stock

Has this been achieved yet? I'd buy this device if it weren't for BlinkFeed being shoved down my throat. Yes, I understand you can set a default homepage and never see blinkfeed but we want it gone. Thanks a lot!
No one is shoving anything down your throat. You can simply stop sync, move it to the next screen and make another screen your home.

If there is no way to disable it then, yes, it's being forced upon us.
So tell me, coupetastic-droid, what is the least amount of activity that blinkfeed will subject the device to? Thanks.

Seriously, why does everyone hate Blinkfeed? State why? I love it, I use it all the time and find some interesting things on there. If you must disable it, then sure just remove all sources and set a new home screen, it won't use any battery!

I thought I would hate blink feed but having actually used it, I love it and can't wait to get it back (waiting for a replacement after first had dead pixels).
As has been said though, you can simply not pick any topics any feeds then set a different home screen as default.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
I'm exactly the same, I thought I would simply ignore BlinkFeed, but it's kind of nice to have. You can pick what you want to see and it does give you some great information and some great stuff to read. Most of the time on my phone is now searching through BlinkFeed, which was unexpected for me.
Thanks a lot for the info and opinions.
I only use twitter on the social media side and use the twitter app as I prefer the layout. The news topics and services are only limited and if they expand to include more sites I can see myself using the app more. This actually annoys me more than the app as I want to use it!
Seriously ?
People wanting to take the risk rooting and voiding warranty to remove blinkfeed instead of just going to play store, search for "HOLO LAUNCHER HD" or "APEX LAUNCHER" which are nearly like stock android homes and just install them ?
Please explain to me, I must be missing something.

Some people, myself included, like the HTC launcher with the vertical app drawer Also, unlocking the bootloader doesn't void warranty

Yes it does, htc dev and htc support clearly said numerous time for the one X that warranty was void once unlocked.
Furthermore Holo or Apex and a lot of replacement launchers have the option to use vertical drawer... or horizontal... specify background, numer of rows, colums, animations, etc... You gain customizable icon docks, folder icon docks... 5 icon docks if you want, an app drawer button icon in the dock, and other endless possibilities over stock launcher.
Can't see any reason why anyone would keep the stock htc launcher except for blinkfeed actually.
Unless you have some serious arguments for the stock launcher I'll believe its for the sake of using stock because you paid for stock ahah.

And I have come from a Nexus 4. I find that launcher boring, I like the smoothness and look of the stock HTC, with the weather clock at the top of the app list. I also like blinkfeed, so I use it.
That post is around since months, on the fields it doesn't change the fact that either htc or samsung DO send back faulty phones with a price quote with written as argument : phone rooted warranty void.
But obviously if you take it to european court you will win, but how much would that cost you ? More than replacing a rooted broken phone motherboard probably because htc replaces all rooted motherboard by new ones and that is pricy.
So please dont post on such a high influence forum that unlocking the bootloader does not void warranty in facts, because 3 times out of 4 it will if the technician in charge checks the state of the bootloader before proceeding to fix the phone.

Getting GS4; Can't Wait To Tinker...

The S View Cover for the GS4 has got be all excited-- I'm looking forward to Mod that little window into oblivion. I want to see how many of the awesome things/ideas from the Continuum Ticker can I take and shove in there (First thing I wanna put in there is Weather, it desperately needs that... Then I'll see if I can Mod the call screen to be more like ours, with an 'Ignore With TXT' button...)
Anyone else planning on getting it?
After the continuum I decided never to get another Samsung phone again. If the s4 on Verizon is anything like the dna verizon is going to have e the bootloader locked. And so far since the ota on my phone no one has been able to crack it. Granted the s4 will probably have a larger development and for your sake I hope you get yours unlocked so you can tinker.

too funny. When I saw the View Cover I immediately thought of the Ticker as well. I think the Continuum pushed the boundaries of a phone back then with the ticker and grip sensor. Too bad Samsung didn't have someone like you on staff to really put it to good use.

OK, so i have a few important questions for the experts on here, that i haven't seen.

first, are there any differences between the "f" variant, and the "s" variant? everything i've read has them exactly alike. then, my number one pet peive with my new s7e so far is that when i restart it, it won't allow me to unlock it with my fingerprint, and wants a password instead. i really hate this, and have not seen anything from anyone about it, or how to fix it.
Actually, this has been answered numerous times. Can't get rid of it. Just like Apple iPhone in that respect.

Unfortunately it's one of the newer security features just like the double lock feature after using an app to turn off the screen. There's no way around this but it's definitely more secure if someone were trying to access your phone. A small nuscience for higher security. If you disabled screen lock I think it goes away.

yeah, i get why they are doing it, but i don't get why they put it in and don't allow the USER/OWNER to make a decision to keep it or not. android is open source, and as such nothing should be locked down like this. but in this, there is something i still am missing. why is it any more secure to have to put a password in, than your fingerprint after restarting? actually, it would seem to me, that anytime you have to type a password, you stand a chance of someone else seeing it, or keylogging it. but a fingerprint is only yours, and no one else has it. so what am i missing about this being more secure? and btw, thanks for the response.
The fingerprint sensor works great for me. Although I did have to recalibrate it once again since I didn't do it properly the first time. Also the difference between the F and the S variant is the region they are meant to be sold on. The F is generally for Europe while the S is for Korea.
Is it that much of an inconvenience? How many times a day do you restart your phone?
