Hey guys,
Something I'm interested in. Not sure how many of you will have experience with the 4s though...
I work in a store in central London which is in a pretty old building. Our store build is achient and it's all concrete and metal floors, along with the old brick of the building.
To say simply, signal in our shop sucks. We get 3g on the counter, but it's very dodgy. Many people get no signal downstairs in our office/staff area which is also a basement.
Many of us are on the O2 network, including me now (via the excellent giffgaff!). All of my colleagues on iphone 4 get no signal around the manager desk area. I do, though it's a little more dodgy than when I was on vodafone. (used to get a solid Edge connection all the way to the back, then solid G)
What really surprised me is that one of my colleagues now has an iphone 4s, which has a far improved antena design. He does not get signal on the managers desk. I do...
Has anyone else seem the Sgs2 radio beat the 4s radio? I'm using the kl1 radio and the reception has been amazing on it.
It seriously really surprised me. Makes me want to keep my baby for a long while longer!
Cheers

Yes but that's comparing to my colleagues we've moved into a new building reception is poor I get a decent signal on a good modem where as some colleagues with iPhones suffer.
Also found that giffgaff/o2 in the same building is better than Vodafone.

The iPhone has a very bad antenna design, from an engineering standpoint. Form over function.

The iPhone 4 sure had an engineering fail, but you definetely can't be serious by saying the 4S has an antenna flaw. It doesn't, and it gets just as good a signal as my GSII does.

I've tested the radio both in Los Angeles and Beijing. In Los Angeles, the reception on my i4S is quite a bit better running on ATT network. Download and upload speeds are about 2X better on the i4S. Call quality is also better on the i4S. With wifi the i4S and sgs2 get about the same dl/ul speeds but the i4S has a much better range.
In Beijing with both phones operating on China Mobile's crappy edge network both are about the same. Call quality is equally good with maybe a slight nod to the i4S as it has more volume. Wifi is still the same story with the i4S getting 2-3X the range as my sgs2.
Why not club together , or get the company, to buy a signal booster? This would just be a relay cell to the nearest O2 cell.
Anyone else notice that the radio in the Note 4 sucks for LTE? My previous phone was a HTC One M8 and I got 4G everywhere in my city full time. With the Note 4, my 4G connection is unstable at work. Instead of it being a weak -100+ dBm signal, it is actually usually around -75 allot, then it fluctuates to around -88 to -105, then it falls to 3G. The transfer rate also isn't that great at 6-8 Mbps.
At home, I have a constant -105 signal but at least it never loses 4G connection and has a decent 20-25 Mbps download speed. My prior phone was around -80 to -90 range.
Makes me want to switch to an IPhone Plus, Droid Turbo, or Nexus 6... No idea if any will be available within 14 days. .

By default the global network is on. Try switching it to LTE only. It's solid on mine.
No issues with mine. Just as good as the last several Verizon phones I've had (S5, M8, 5S).
Mine seems better than the Note 3.. just fyi.
I've had incredible signal with mine. Our house is on the outskirts of 4G and my m8 got between 106 and 115 dbm. But my note gets at most 111, and constantly below 105 in most of my house. Solid and we'll above expected signal strength here.

So far best radio ive used to date
Edit: i was on global too lol
I switched from global to LTE and also removed my SIM card for a few minutes before turning it back on. Seems a bit better but still testing in more problematic areas.

Seems the exact same as the S3 and S4, so not real good or real bad. Somewhere in the middle.
Used to have HTC One M8, now Note 4. Radio seems to be better.

I was hoping that it would be better than the S3. My S3s have poor radios at best. It's the only thing that I dislike about my S3.
Seems a little better than my m8 sitting in the exact same spot in my house.

Ditto on the GS3. I figured two years later, they would to have had to get better radios by now. Oh well... My note hasn't arrived yet. I know with Moto and HTC I get signal in places I don''t with a Samsung. I've got used to the less than great signal with the Samsung that I'll try to not sweat over it.
I'm getting a better signal on the N4 than I did on the S3. I now have 4G signal at work where on my S3 I only got a weak 3G.
Mines much better actually but I'm coming from an S3.
We were at the dinner table where my friend's 6 Plus was oos and my Note 4 had 1 bar. Hahaha!

seems better than note 2.
Things got MUCH better once I switched from Global mode to LTE/CDMA. Thanks!
Just switched to lte from global.. I wonder why the default is global?
100% agree. I was getting so pissed at my Note 3... I would drop calls all the time and now I don't in the same exact areas.
How's everyone's reception been? Compared to a galaxy s4 or any other phone you had prior. Better? Worse?

I had the Note 4 before getting this and I've noticed it to be around 4 to 6 dBM worse. WiFi is noticeably weaker as well. I have the 64GB variant.
One reason I purchased this phone was the supposed better radios of Motorola. It is noticeably worse than the Samsung Note 4 and HTC One M8. I wish I could just go back to my M8 but that is impossible without repurchasing one and wasting my Edge ;p. I never lost 4G with my M8 while I lost 4G with the Note 4 in a few areas and many times with the Droid Turbo today. Very disappointed in the radio performance, will try again tomorrow with new Sim Card, but I think I might be screwed. The phone is stable at my home and slightly better than the Note 4 here. At work is where I had all the trouble.

I'd wait a few weeks before doing anything drastic. As with any new phone, there will likely be some software bugs to address that may affect signal in the first few weeks.
I can attest for certain the Radio is MUCH better than any phone that I have had. (S4,S5,One M8, Note 4, iPhone6 etc)
My experience that is much different -is a 20 Mile stretch of road to my Home. I live in Fringe Reception area in Norther California (Foresthill) I haven't ever been able to drive the 20 Mile Stretch home without dropping a phone call.( This usually happens numerous times) With The Turbo I was able to stay connected to Verizon Customer Service the Entire 20 Miles to my Home!
The only Bummer about this experience is that I was on the Phone with Verizon regarding the lack of Simul Data! What a complete ****ter! This is something that I will give props to Apple about. The day the iPhone 6 was released the phone could use VOLTE . Kind horse **** that a Flagship VZ Moto exclusive device doesnt have the proper software to use VOLTE on release.

Good to hear, so is it a guarantee that when it gets VOLTE it will have Simultaneous data tand voice on every phone call? Also which version of the turbo did u get as far as material.
I purchased the 32GB Red (Carbon) <- thinking about getting the black LOL.
It's for sure a software issue with the phone. My iPhone 6 was able to access VOLTE the day of release in my area. It's unreal that VZ & Moto wouldn't require the feature to be working on release date. It appears to be an issue with the 2014 Moto X as well from what I have been reading
I will say the phone is incredibly snappy, and smooth in performance. I can only imagine how the performance will be when we get L on the phone.
PS. Haven't had enough time to compare the WIFI performance but that is usually not a problem for me anyways- I have 4 Ubiquiti Access Points installed at my home. The way the system works is each wifi AP hands off the WIFI signal simultaneously from one AP to another- all without interrupting whatever you may be streaming The most important item to me is my Cell Reception and a huge Bonus that I can stay connected driving the 20 mile stretch home.

As far as mobile data is concerned, seems to be about the same or slightly better than my G3, however WiFi is significantly worse.
DROID Turbo 1x and WiFi:
LG G3 1x and WiFi:
DROID Turbo LTE:
LG G3 LTE:
Wifi signals are WAY down compared to my other devices which include iphone 5S, 6, HTC One M8, Note II, Note 3, Galaxy S5...
Have the 64GB black nylon one.
I'll have to try outdoors. We have a long range wifi extender to cover a large section of the pasture and all my other devices get a decent signal up to 1km away. This will be a good test.
I had a carbon fiber case on my S5 (Cygnett IIRC) that blocked the LTE signal really bad. That's the disadvantage to having real carbon fiber LOL.
Not sure about the ballistic nylon. Does it have CF in it?
I wish the back came off, I have a friend who's an RF test engineer and he could see if it has attenuation in the (un) desired ranges.

There is a big difference between holding on to a phone call and getting good data (4G).
Do you get a good 4G signal also? Thanks
My signal not so good with Droid Turbo
I have had around -105 dbm 4G LTE which is 2 bars and have had a few times where I had 3 bars. Normally in the same area I would have 4 to 5 bars. I also had a time where I tried to make a call and it was on 1x when I was in a big city where there is 4G towers. After the call it went to 4G. I sure hope we all get this issue fixed. Other than this issue most everything has been great.

Man that sucks the big one. The bars you are seeing are probably 3g or 1x voice signal. Which still sucks if you download an app called advanced signal it will tell you exactly what is going on. I'm defiantly gonna hold off until it gets solved. I have to pay full retail as I am on unlimited Thanks for your input.
My LTE and Wifi strength are also down.
Siting in my office, I used to get full bars of wifi reception on my DNA. Now its at 2 bars. Same goes for my LTE signal.
I'll do some actual testing later, but I hope this gets resolved quickly
Yeah the wifi is killing me. It's incredibly noticeable in various parts of my house that I used to have stellar wifi.
I've had LTE where my M8 struggled to even get 3G. I'm quite pleased with the signal.
I've had better LTE and 3G reception versus my S3. Seems like calls sound better. Better (quicker acquisition, less drops) GPS performance as well. Wifi signal reception seems to be on par. Both phones in the same room a few feet apart, are within 1-2dBm of each other. I haven't tested performance, or compared client statistics on my wireless controller yet.
Signal
Has anyone tried just taking the phone on the road and checking signals not bars but 3G or 4G. If the phone doesnt have voice and internet at the same time that would explain why the phone would go to 1X when your on a call then back up when you get off. If you out and about do you have 4G where you did with previous phones not bars but 4G? The bars on my Droid Maxx tell me what my voice signal strength is not 4G I believe it is the same with the turbo. The WIFI deal Im cluless if it doesnt connect then it doesnt connect. again though it doesnt depend on howmany bars you have. It is how the phone performs. Im in a real crap signal area I can have 1X on my Maxx and still be able to make calls and text because I may have only one bar on the phone. Thanks

Look back a few pages, I posted dBm readings between phones. I agree though, comparing bars is useless.
Just figured I'd chime in. I swapped my kevlar version for the normal version and my wifi is back to the same strength that my G2 had. There was definitely something wrong with the kevlar one I had...
Hello,
I have had my Pro 3 since if first launched..
Noticed I lose connections, No bars on my Phone in Large Buildings.. Like a movie theater or Or at Work!!..
I noticed other ppl use their phone at work..
I have T Mobile Network... I'm wondering is it the phone or my network.. I think it had all the bands for T mobile?
Anyone else experience this?
I'm also on T-Mobile, but haven't had any issues with connectivity. My voice and data coverage seem pretty much the same as when I was using my Samsung Galaxy S6 before I bought the Pro 3. I have noticed that in buildings, I often have a very different experience than other people who are with other carriers, though. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but overall, I've found this phone to work very well on T-Mobile in my area.

This device, for me atleast, holds onto a edge-of-signal connection a bit longer than my Galaxy s7. My sister's house is in an area where T-Mobile doesn't cover very well but I'll hold onto an HSPA+ (4G, not LTE) connection all throughout the house before dropping to Edge while my GS7 (when I had one) would drop to Edge. Although when you're in a good coverage area, the GS7 beats Le Pro3 very consistently with speed.
I will add that Le Pro3 is still no slouch on LTE in terms of speed either.
I am really trying to love this phone and not go back to my Galaxy S8(Which I also loved). Without blasting about how or why or whatever else we could come up with to be derogatory, please tell me in the poll what service you are using with and if the signal is the same, worse or better than your previous device on the same network. Thanks in advance!
Eric
Verizon here. Signal seems to be on par with all my previous phones.
Previous device: HTC 10 - PH-1 is Better, significantly.
Also have a S7 Edge as a work phone - PH-1 is Better, not but by a few dB but still better.

I'm on AT&T and my signal is horrible with this phone compared to other phones I've used at home. I usually get a strong signal but I'm having a horrible one and constant drop outs. I posted in the t-mobile signal thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73653547&postcount=34
I saw your post, my signal has been subpar to say the least... I am wondering if this phone is having issues with GSM and dropping down to HSPA or something. It doesn't even try... My other phones would do that if the signal was atrocious but rarely needed too. It seems like this one just is horrible inside buildings as I get "decent" signal outside. Before, my service was on par with Verizon IMO.
Cricket wireless on par with other phones used. Just as good and no worse.

are you in an area that gets good ATT reception?
I'm on AT&T also and my signal is much worse. I have a weboost booster in my house too and I watched the signal drop from full bars to nothing at like -120 dBm and back to like -90dBm several times. I already switched back to my pixel XL till I decide what I want to do. I should have solid signal with a booster in my house.

Same here in Hayward, Ca.
T-mobile here in Bay Area. Seems faster than my old Sony.
So with limited results it seems the issue is intermittent?
I tried a Verizon sim in my phone and had decent reception, I swapped my tmobile sim for a brand new one at the store and I don't think it made a difference... I don't know what to do
Verizon here. For me, it's hit or miss. After being on Wi-Fi, it takes a while to reacquire a good data signal. Also, I seem to be dropping a data signal in places where I never did with my Google Pixel.
I'm hoping some kind of update might fix these issues. Until then, I am going back to my S8
AT&T Florida, same signal quality as the last two phones, S8+ and Pixel XL.
The thing I never thought would bother me is not having a case at all on the phone, I mean its slicker than snot.
I never even thought about it being designed to NOT have a case before I bought it.
But then how would you attach the camera with a case on it.
I do have a skin for the back of it on the way, hopefully it wont affect camera attachment.

I'm just needing a case so I can connect the phone to the CD slot mount in my car. Just a lightweight, basic case for that usage. And somehow there are no cases available at all.
Where did you buy the skin?
I went back to the s8 for the time being, I need a phone that is reliable and at this time that is not my essential device
