[Q] Help, High power drain - Wildfire General

I have a friend who got a wildfire.
Usually his batterylife was good, like two days without a charge. Then he started using spotify a while ago. When he uses spotify the drain is higher of course.
But yesterday his phone started to act kinda sluggish and draining power constantly without spotify on. I installed watchtower to see if there's a process who draws much CPU.
The only thing i could find was the com.android.provider.settings averaged abour 20 % constantly.
Anyone who have this problem or maybe have a fix for it?
He's running stock froyo rom.

=)
just tell him switch to customized ROM. CM7 rocks!!

Well. He's worried about something
Going wrong.
But I solved the problem. Usb debugging was on and caused the drain

high power drain
thanks i have the same will try usb debugging off and see what happens

the bigger power consumer is 3g/4g radio.
Switch to 2g only mode and you will see
Put the 3g in game only when you really need the speed.
Usb debug mode - how this could drain your battery when is not connected - but i'll try this
And yes cm7mod is superb even without any appkiller or over/under clock app... (build #20 right now)

[How to?] Control data battery heavy heavy HEAVY drain

I used the search button, didn't find anything with my same problem (if it was alredy asked sorry)
Hi to all, I noticed that on my HD2 the only thing that drains too much battery is 3G connection...
It drains at the point that is impossible to charge the phone when the data network is on!! (tried, 2 hours charging, locked on 8% battery)
also.. the antenna gets hot.. it drains in the same way even if i'm in standby!
I'm just wondering... is there a way to modify battery draining? reduce voltages or something close to cpu undervolting/underclocking? I think it's draining even more power than it needs (in winmo doesn't get so hot and doesn't drain so much)
It's only my issue and anybody else noticed that heavy drain? please let me know...
my setting:
ROM: axlor leo v3 (it's android compatible, means no robot voice during calls)
RADIO: 2.12
ANDROID: hyperdroid v 1.6 (kernel michyprima as you can dl from hyperdroid page)
Bye
Are you using wifi? Once the phone gets too hot it will stop taking a charge
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
As already stated the problem is only 3g related, wifi doesn't give any problem, it drains battery normally.. The phone in stand by doesn't get so hot to justify the charge stop, it just drains all the power given by the adapter...

Sorry, but seeing the title of this topic I just had to do it.
Good one
But seriously, did you ever tried another radio? I got the same, but my HD lasts min. 1 day and when I charge it never gets hot..
That's not very good, did you tried with SetCPU and a profile that set the clock to a lower frequency when you charge? Maybe that will work..

Nice ^_^
@JanssoN what radio are you using?
Anyway it's only a matter of 3g connection, if it's turned off, battery can reach 2 days of duration (I use wifi in my house and use phone for texts and some internet) and there is no overheating even in case of charging...
When I charge the phon with data (3g, not wifi) on, it doesn't get hot, it just doesn't charge
any idea?

I'm using the same radio, that's why I think it's a strange issue.. Did you try to change the WM-ROM? Maybe that's the problem, I dunno, never heard about such an issue?
My Setup looks like this:
Radio 2.12.50.02_2
WM ROM Chucky Droid GTX Light with Android Bootloader
Mattc 1.8 with sense
Why don't u try to install SetCPU and create a profile that sets the clock frequency to some lower speed at chargin?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734886&highlight=setCPU[/url]
Try and report back.
I have exactly the same problem, phone gets very hot on 3G, and battery drains quickly. On WiFi, everything's cool
stock 1.66
2.12.50.02_2
darkstone's DesireHD
Why don't you both try to upgrade on the new 2.14 radio? I heard that it should be very stable. You have to search, don't know which thread it was.
Will try as soon as I have time, thanks for help..
It seems to be android build/ROM indipendent as d4v0r has different setup and same problem... so maybe radio will solve
Ok, maybe this will work.

solved (?)
Trying radio 2.15, it seems more stable, no high temps for now and battery drain is normal
Sounds good
tested for 2 days: new autonomy:12 hours of 3G on with applications download, twitter updates, web browsing, autoswitching from 3G-G-H and no signal at all.
Everything in "moderation" that is, normal use (for me)
No high temp.
So... try to update ^_^
3g shouldn't be exceeding what your charger can supply. Are you using the original charger and more importantly ate u using a cheep cable. If i use a cable that's can't cope with high currents you will draw power faster than can be supplied.
Been there. Had a replacement cable that when tethering with PC wouldn't charge.
If you don't have setcpu installed. For God sakes install it.

The problem (for me) is now solved, it was a radio issue. autonomy with data on passed from something like 6 hours or less to 12 which is good, maybe less time than other are experiencing but it varies from winmo rom to winmo rom i suppose.
SetCPU is my friend from the first android and it keeps my cpu to 768 max while in use and 245 max on screen off, i use ondemand governor cause conservative keeps the devices to slow for me
i also notice my battery drive fast....

Hi Harky, nice to see you here! Which Android ROM are you using, btw?
Base is Energy Rom
Using ★shubCRAFT 1.5★CM6 Final★
Radio: 2.12.50.02_2
Do ur rom drain alot of battery too
Maybe try this rom for one week and see how is other rom...
in the morning till now.. i notice i lost at least 30% battery. When i m standby mode and surfing a 30min net
Hi Harky, try the new radio (2.15.etc.etc) which for me made a great job
Anyway we still can't expect a droid build least the same time of a winmo build, but for me a day (12h duration cover good part of my day XD) is very good...
Next step for me should change winmo roms and try if there are differences...
If I'll do that, I'll post results..

153mA Standby - [NAND][DFT]LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM

I'm getting between 153mA - 289mA on standby.
This is a FRESH install on NAND. I was actually getting a little bit less drain when I was running via SD card with Coredroid (and the matching WinMO rom).
I've seen tips and tricks on how to lower battery drain when you're SD/WinMO...but haven't been able to find anything on NAND. My thought was that it was a lower drain then SD "out of the box".
setup
-wifi disabled
-bluetooth disabled
-GPS Diabled
-Autosync disabled
-Screen brightness all the way down
-Email push every 15 minutes
Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can find some info on this?
Thanks
Do you have your phone plugged in when you are seeing these numbers?
If so...unplug your phone and see if your numbers change. When i am plugged into either AC or USB i see the same results...on battery power I get 2-4mA

Nope not plugged in. I get about the same readings pluged in or running on battery power. I've tried reinstalling current widget as well.
It finally dropped down to 2mA on standby a few minutes ago. Why such a rapid jump?
For me was this build laggy for the first 30-40 min.I think ther was running some initial setups..so could be the reason for your high battery drain
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
i have no more than 12 hours from 100% unplugged according to some small program from the market... charging over night in the morning it shows 0mA in the current widget... after a day use when i check the current widget history it says sometimes in standby 3-4 mA but usually stays at 15-20 mA (i do not know why)... no wifi, no data, GSM, no GPS etc...
Just so you know, when phone on charge current widget shows how much charge the phone is getting, so when its zero the battery is full I get 3-5ma in standby with everything off I recommend to everyone doing a full charge with phone off once flashed new Rom
It's full when led turns green
Please check out Projections thread on his new kernel for DFT's NAND build.
That should fix your draining issues. Though they are quite high in your specific case.

[Q] Randomly bad battery drain

About a month ago, I was running RoyalGinger 3.0 with bluetooth, GPS, and background data disabled, and I was only using my home wifi to get online. My phone would pretty much hold a 100% charge for 5-8 hours if I left the screen off. I was pretty amazed at my battery life. Then I decided I wanted to try a different rom, so I backed up in CWM and did that. When I returned to RoyalGinger, my phone wasn't holding the 100% charge for as long anymore and hasn't done it since then (yes, I did re-calibrate the battery, like twice at least).
Recently though, my phone has been having horrible battery life under the same conditions. The only difference is that now I use LauncherPro instead of the stock launcher. I'll charge to 100% + 15 minutes or so, and with the screen off, the phone divebombs to about 95% within an hour and a half. If I actually use the phone, it will lose 30% in 2 hours. I have no idea what the problem could be since I don't have any data-syncing apps in the background and I'm really just texting people.
Any ideas?
The consumption doesn't sound like anything out of normal. A difference in signal quality (radio or WiFi) or using radio for data instead of WiFi can cause that.
In any case, just check the apps that use your battery, and see that you don't have any process getting CPU stuck on 100% (you can see CPU load in System Panel Lite, for example).
Download the apps below.....this will help you out.....
Use the app SetCPU for Root Users
It allows control of certain aspects of the Linux cpu freq driver, allowing for overclocking, underclocking, or tweaking speeds and settings. Download it here.
Use the app Battery Booster
Battery Booster is a powerful battery boosting tool and power management application specially designed for Android devices. Download it here.
Always remember to remove the charger immediately when the battery level reach 100% for longer battery life.

battery drains

hey, I know there's so many forums on this but nothing is working for me the most i get now is 6 hours and i've calibrated it, flashed juggernauts fix changed kernels and roms and yeah. I'm on bell and im on the neutrino 1.45 and im only getting 6 hours and i have ultimate juice defender and its undervolted and underclocked to 1.00 ghz...any suggestions? could it be my radio? I'm on bell and was wondering if it's safe to flash .77
it could be the radio if you're always in a low reception area and your time without signal is high (greater than 10%).
it could also be a rogue app that is staying on in the background when you turn your screen off. to find this you can use logcat, it will show you what is running when your phone is in standby mode. heres a good thread to show you how to use logcat. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397493
there are also apps like watchdog task manager or system panel that can show you what is running and using cpu. they are easier to use than logcat but less effective in finding these rogue apps.
I live in the city so then I don't think its reception. I'll try the logcat thing though, thanks

try killing your battery completely and then leaving it on a full charge. Then remove your battery, plug your phone into the wall, leave that in for an hour. Then put back in the battery, plug it into the wall now, and leave that in for another hour.
After that it should be ok on battery.

[Q] AT&T S4 Battery Drain when Plugged and Charging extremely slow.

Hope someone can help me solve this issue.
The Setup
I recently went out of the country and before I left I unlocked my GS4 following from wonderhowto[dot]com
Arrived to my Carribean destination, bought a prepaid SIM, popped her in and everything worked great.
Problems started when I flew back into Miami. I removed my prepaid SIM and installed my old one, changed my APN name back
and rebooted the phone. Decided to plug it into my laptop (USB3.0) to get some extra juice before the next flight and I noticed that
the battery was actually going down and quite quickly too, about 1% every 3 minutes. The phone was also doing a lot of connecting and disconnecting from the laptop even though it was not being moved.
I use two batteries which I have an external charger for , so this didn't slow me down too much.
After a few days, I thought maybe by unlocking the phone I had left it in some "roaming" state where it was eating up battery looking for its signal, so I decided that I'd restore it to the nandroid backup ROM Manager created before I did the unlock procedure. OH NUGGETS!
Things got ugly , quick!. In the process of trying to restore got MD5 mismatch error, so I went back to 3 previous backups before all of which said either "MD5 mismatch" or unable to open .zip -None of them worked.
Thankfully I had saved a copy of the backup folder in clockworkmod to my PC and tried to load that, it started and then get to writing /data and said error writing data.
I rebooted. Bootloop.
After a few hours of attempts with KIES, and some well timed cold beer deliveries from my wife, I finally got the phone back to stock version.
Rooted it again, motochopper, And loaded GoldenEye Rom v 8.0 . Still slow to little or no charging.
Loaded PACMAN and noticed something that should be mentioned.
Pacman rom has its own little battery widget that sits in the top tray and shows the %. It glows green from bottom to top to show that it is charging. I noticed on every couple of cycles, the battery meter would flash red for a quick second before turning green and sweeping up.????
Went back to a backup of GoldenEye8.
The current status
The phone is currently plugged in to the stock charger (2A) and stock cable. It has charged up only about 3% in 20 minutes time. I have it in battery saving mode with wifi on , and EVERYTHING else turned off.
Battery info says:
Temp 87.3 F
Voltage 4033mV
Plugged True
Charging
Li-ion
Health:Good
Charge Type : AC
Battery use shows 62% of battery use coming from SCREEN (Yes I have auto-brightness set, and NO live wallpaper)
Anyone have some good input?
Maybe its a bad cord? Or bad USB port/connection on the phone it self...
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4
62% screen usage is normal, I sometimes see over 70% with my brightness all the way up.
Make sure apps aren't keeping it from going idle and staying active.
Battery temp. seems a bit high. General causes of that are a faulty cable.
Download greenify and hibernate any apps that may be running unnoticeably in the background.
If your kernel allows fast charging (disables access to phone storage while fast charging is on) enable it while charging if you're not using the phone.
Play with CPU and GPU governors in your kernel to save battery life. I.E: I put my CPU governor on "powersave" while idle and not using the phone for anything extensive.

Tried two other cords, but they just made it worse. They actually caused it to look like its charging but the battery level was going down.
Your second suggestion is probably right, but i'd like to exhaust my options first before having to restore and send to creator. I do find that with the stock cable and no external case on it stays plugged in well and doesn't make any "interrupted connection" noises.
With stock charger and cable and minimal functions running its charging about 1% every 4 minutes. ( Approx 6.5 hrs to full charge )
I feel like the hardware must be working in order to do that, and that the software is putting some kind of excessive strain on it. Possibly?
The battery use still shows, screen as the major contributor at 61% , so I switched from a really high resolution static background to a low res one. ( results to follow)
Downloading WanamLite now and going to try that out, also going to try performing the unlock procedure I did in reverse order and see what that does. Keep you posted. Open to suggestions.

Thanks for the advise, I'm running greenify and its really only showing facebook and my sms app, I hibernated facebook anyways just to test it, but I know out of the box , on a car adapter this thing was charging 1%/min , maybe I have a bad ROM/Kernel mix?

Doubt it, but maybe you can try going from touchwiz to aosp. Very much more lightweight, though you'll lose some s4 features. If it is faulty hardware/battery I'd just save yourself the trouble and swap it for a new one; or try another battery. I guess you can try doing a compete wipe and flashing a fresh ROM with a kernel you know will definitely run smooth with it.

Already tried the second battery, no luck. Any suggestion on the rom/kernel combo?
I use task650 with kt's kernel and it's excellent. Though it's all opinion, there is many great combinations. Some ROMs come packaged with their own kernel or a custom one.

IMO: those temps are pretty normal.
Why you don't try a bone stock rom and see how it respond for a few hours, if the stock rom behaves the same, probably you will need to send it for warranty.
