Looking at trading my Omnia 7 in for a HD2,
the omnia is amazing and I will miss the screen but the extra screen size and better audio of HD2/HD7 is really enticing me.
I have installed W7 on a few HD2's for people, my only concern is the camera, how does it auto focus with out the camera button with its 2 press process.
surely this will just create very ouot of focus simple snaps.
besides this im all up for swapping
I was wondering the same actually as any pics I have taken are blurry enough. Doesn't autofocus like it did on WinMo 6.5
if you switch to video it auto focuses, then switch back to camera......works well. Hopefully in future roms maybe a focus button can be implemented.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem. It's nothing that's going to kill me but it is a little irritating. When I hit the shutter button, the camera doesn't immediately take the picture, there will probably be about .5 to 1 second of lag in between pressing and actually getting the picture. If this is normal then fine tell me. If there is a fix I would appreciate a link to a fix or an explanation on the fix. Thanks.
AFAIK that lag is the auto focus kicking in every time the image changes in the live preview....i wish there was a way to keep focus at infinity and leave it there permanently.
There is a way to turn off that delay...I just can't remember what it is
Whatever it is, I've done it, because I don't have any delay between when I touch the shutter and when the image is captured. I could have sworn it was a setting in HD2Tweak or BsB Tweak, but I can't for the life of me find it now apparently. I'll let you know if I recall, but it's out there, I promise
Thanks I'll keep waiting. I have BSB Tweaks and there's nothing about camera delay, and it can't be the auto focus because I allow the camera to autofocus THEN I take the picture and that delay shows up.
I guess coming from other auto-focus smartphones, G1, TP2, Blackberry, etc the autofocus lag on the HD2 is so incredibly fast compared to all others I've never even noticed it.

this will focus then capture
tap quickly
fast capture

Jimmy, you're a cotton picken' genius.
So yeah I tried it and that's obviously the difference. For anyone who's curious, I just took the same picture 10 times, 5 with the fast capture, and 5 with the focus then capture, and honestly neither way was consistently better at getting a well-focused picture Try them both, see which works better for you, but I don't think it really matters which way you choose
Hi,
I love my HD2. However there is one thing that annoys me alot:
the fact that there is no hardware button to take pictures with the camera.
You have to look at the screen to be able to find the shutterbutton and even doing so its pretty nonergonimical to do so if you hold your phone with two hand.
Isnt there some way of taking pictures with the volume buttons? The are positioned perfectly!
Thanks
/Erik
Hi
yeh that would be really good if we good take pics with hard button(s), preferably one of the volume keys.
It will take the extraordinary camera quality of htc hd2 pics to another level with this great addition.
thanks.
I'm currently a Kaiser user and I'm hoping to upgrade to an HD2 soon, but I currently use AE Buttons to program all of the buttons on my Kaiser. Will this work on the HD2? If so, I'm sure this could give you the functionality you require.
Hi all,
I've had my HD2 since around Christmas time and I love the device, but I've always had a problem with it's camera. This is not the usual "Pink cast" problem which I know is well documented, but rather a problem with the autofocus. Sometimes when I'm just playing with the camera it works fine, but most of the time (usually when I really want or need to photograph something) the camera cannot focus. It TRIES to focus, I can hear the lens moving and the image on the screen goes from very blurry, past the point of focus, back to blurry again and then the camera takes the photo blurry. It seems to be able to focus on my hand or anything else I hold very close to the lens, but anything else and 9 times out of 10 it will not focus properly. I've found that usually if I reboot the phone it will work for a while but then I've missed what I was trying to photograph in the first place. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this problem with their HD2?
Here's a few points I think are worth mentioning:
The handset's ROM is the standard one that came installed when it was new, I have never upgraded it or patched it (I know there was a patch for the camera but as far as I was aware this was to try to fix the pink cast problem, correct me if I'm wrong).
The problem occurs in all lighting conditions.
Touch focus is enabled but touching the screen results in the same problem, it tries to focus but fails. I feel that this is very likely to be a hardware problem but then on the other hand, why would restarting the phone make it better if it's a hardware fault?
Any help, input or shared experiences will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hey i have the same problem! i wanted to send my HD2 in to get it replaced but they said it was a software problem i dont really think so tho.
It would be really nice to see someone dev an app or a new rom that fixes this problem.
If i hear anything i will post what i know.
Hi,
excuse my poor english.....
I had the same problem with original italian ROM (1.66) until this summer.
On my device I have two applications that can increase the picture sharpness (BsB Tweaks, XTHackBeta2).
In these apps I enabled the "increase picture quality" but my pictures were always blurred, especially when there was plenty of sunlight.
I tryed to contact HTC Costumer service, they told me to have an hard reset but it did not solve the problem, also without no one applications installed on device.
It might seem stupid but, after that, I cleaned kindly but strongly the camera glass and I set the resolution camera to 1 Mb, making pictures and check how autofocus was working, then, step by step, I set to 5 Mb on camera configuration with Super fine quality pictures.
And I disabled any increasing picture quality on every apps (BsB, XT Hack)
It could be a miracle but I had never had the problem of autofocussing and pictures became very detailed and brighted
Same problem for me. Have a german 1.72 t-mob ROM.
Reducing the picture quality is not a solution for me.
In my case the problem occurs every time I try to make photos of any documents inside rooms, but with good light conditions. I need about 5-10 trials to make one well focussed photo. It's equal if I use autofocus or not.
If I go outside I can make very good photos from some natural objects, even when they are very close.
I enabled camera Superfine in BsB Tweaks.
After installing the W7P rom on an HTC HD2 device, the camera AUTO FOCUS ceases to function. Only when you switch to VIDEO mode, the camera auto focuses but when you use CAMERA MODE ONLY, there is NO AUTO FUNCTION!
I know many are experiencing the exact same problem - but this needs to be addressed asap since the camera is very important on the HD2.
I can get 720p video by simply switching the language then back to United States (English).
Camera app in WP7 doesn't have a auto focus i think. That's is why in WP7 phones, their shutter key button are used to focus when half pressed, and when pressed fully they take the picture.
camera in wp7 beta is not working properly
wait for next version of wp7 or deal with it
I read a lot of threads/posts about the HD2's camera not focusing due to the lack of the 2 stage camera button.
However, one can focus the camera by double tapping and holding on the second tap to initiate the auto focus and take a photo soon after.
Hope this works for everybody!

its worked since yuki made his first ROM, it was just the initial DFT release and subsequent clones that didnt work right
