Sorry guys, I've BEEN searching and tried those methods but nothing has worked.
So I've had nothing else to do but ask.
I've completely FUBAR'ed my phone. I tried to update to DJ05 using ODIN and something went wrong and it messed everything up.
Only screen I can successfully get into is the Downloading screen or I get the bricked screen via the phone -- triangle -- computer.
As of now I just want my phone up and working, stock if I have to. Forget about root if I need to.
I try to use ODIN to restore the stock files, I put the stock PIT and also the stock system .mbr file that's in the Restoring using ODIN thread, and it doesn't work. Just fails and says failed to write.
What do I do? I just want my phone to be useable! Someone please help me.
Step through step guide? Am I using ODIN wrong?
You're using the forums wrong by mucking up the Dev section with a help me thread. ;/
Well if you flashed the DJ05 modem under "Phone" in odin, you now have an expensive paperweight.
If that's not the case, try the "Full DI01 ODIN Package" posted on this forum by adrynalyne. It's a 1 stop for restoring you back to complete stock.

Good luck, and try irc if you're still broken...

Actually I did do it under Phone. HUGE mistake I know.... Anything else I can do from here?
And it was the DJ05 Modem. *SIGH*
If you can help me I will greatly appreciate it.
Also, to any other dev's you're the greatest and I'm sorry that I posted under your section.
If you did it under phone you're done. Done and done.
Good luck ma I hope you can get this figured out... But I do believe your phone is now a nice plastic brick. PDA PDA PDA...head to IRC and maybe if the force is with you someone there can help
EDIT: Removed to prevent confusion.
No no no you never flash anything to phone ever

Well I did, and am working fine. I would like to reference the instructions from IRC https://sites.google.com/a/imnuts.net/update-to-dj05/ but the link appears to be down.

Sir I can promise you that the instructions on IRC do NOT say to use phone. Please do not use phone for anything. I assure you PDA is the correct choice.

Well I'll assume you're right, it is always safer to just use PDA. I know I didn't for me and my friend, I'll just consider myself oddly lucky then. But no, not suggesting to anyone to use "Phone", if my own case is an exception, then so be it.
I apologize if it seemed I was spreading false info, just conflicting personal experience, Stick to PDA .
CrushD, no worries I'm just trying to drive home the point. PDA PDA PDA....for ayone else that reads this...
Op try changing the usb port you are using on your computer...I know it sounds silly but that may be the problem
I also flashed a few things on phone via odin, and after almost bricking my phone decided to read thru forums b4 doin it again. Pda is safest I just got lucky.... 5 times
The instructions moved as I grouped all Android content under it's own section for easier navigation and such as more things become available. http://goo.gl/oMc7H And if you read them, it says in red, bold, underlined text to NOT use the phone button unless you want a paperweight.
OOPS! I messed up in odin when flashing my first rom, with my new $200 phone my dad bought me two days ago. As you can imagine I am extremely sad, and I need some help. Anyways, I think I did something in Odin that messed up my modem.bin, which explains why i have a circle with a line throught it on my notification bar where the signal status would usually be. So, I thought, the DJ05 update has modem.tar, and I flashed that with Odin, but I still have that same circle with a line through it. Plz Help
Flash in PDA. Not phone.
Good luck.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
yes, if you are lucky PDA will work... Try it and if it doesn't work, there are other things you can do.
But if you're not going to read and respond to this thread. I'm just wasting my time typing this out for you.
Been doing
Thats what I've been doing, I flashed it in PDA before flashing the rest of DJ05. I have read, and Im not just posting this without looking.

Edit:
Do I need a PIT file to flash the modem, because I haven't been using one.
No, you don't need a PIT file with the modem. What did you flash initially that started this problem? There may not be anything you can do.
Sign up for the extra insurance. Step on your phone, pay the $80 deductible and get a new phone. Cancel insurance.
Well, I rooted it, installed clockwork mod, and then the SuperClean Rom. Then I decided to go back to my Nandroid backup, but that was unsuccesful so I went to do something in Odin (I think I was trying to restore to DJ05 again). Please tell me all of my options. Im already extremely upset, and the phone was bought off Ebay N.I.B so there is no option of that insurance.
Do you know exactly what it was that you flashed via Odin and how you did it? Was it something in this forum, another forum? Was it something for the Telus Fascinate? Did you use the phone button or pda button when flashing?
To be honest, I really cant remember what I was flashing, I as probabley trying to re-install DI01. It wasn't anything from Telus or the Vibrant, it was specifically for Verizon. And I always did it in PDA. Except today I flashed the DJ05 modem.tar using phone. Hope thats not bad.

That would be the problem, and there isn't a fix as far as I'm aware.
Ok, well even without that, my point is I did this about an hour ago. And even before every flashing in phone I had this problem. I am so upset.

My apologies. Any Updates?
If you flashed via the Phone button at any point, your phone is no longer usable or fixable unless someone has found a fix that I haven't seen yet. Whether the problem started before you used the phone button or not, using the phone button pretty much guaranteed there is no way to fix it.
Im a NOOB so I might not be right, but here is my argument. There have been people with the same prob. that pressed the phone button before. Theyre solution has been to flash a new modem.bin. I just want to know WHY after having the same problem as other people, and taking the same solution my phone still doesnt work. Right now Im going to Odin restore DI01 stock to my Fascinate and then try and OTA update via Wi-Fi if that is possible.
You can't update OTA via wifi... That contradicts itself. And if you are flashing to stock DI01, what are you hoping to update to? DL09 isn't available yet.
Have you tried flashing the all in one di01 by adrynalyne? That may be you only option.
Also, samsung gives a warranty, you might be able to take it to vzw in worst case scenario.

Welk as I read on x.d.a today dl09 was officially released for download by ota. Im 90% sure
I used DJ05 but I just got back to DI01 because of 3G network availability. but once I got back in DI01 my fascinate doesn't detect 3G. the web only works on wifi. when I turn off the wifi button it does nothing. even 1g or 2g siganal didn't come up just signal bar shows on. I have no idea to fix it. does anybody can tell me what I need to do now?? without wifi zone it work like feature phone to me..
How exactly did you revert back? I'm assuming you used ODIN? If so, did you choose the Phone button or the PDA button to flash the image? If you used the Phone button, then your modem is dead, and cannot be recovered, so you will have to find some way to replace your phone.
Dial *228 and press 1 to activate/reprogram your phone. I had the same thing happen to me. It's just not activated anymore.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, there is no known way to recover from modem failure caused by flashing with the Phone button in ODIN. I'm sorry, but it looks you will either have to buy a new phone, or find a way to convince Verizon to give you a warranty replacement.

+1 to that. Hope you have insurance, that is your only hope now. As an FYI, the DI01 package already contained the modem. It is called an AIO package for a reason.
There is no way to recover your phone if you used the Phone option instead of the PDA option in Odin.

Do phone calls work? Does anything via the 1X network work? You could try reflashing the DI01modem.tar via PDA, but that would be the only possible fix besides a new phone.

Gunnermike, from here and Android central flashed in Odin using the phone button by mistake. He re-flashed the modem using PDA and reported that everything worked as it should afterwords.
At this point, you don't have anything to loose.
I made the same mistake (select phone instead of PDA) when I tried to install voodoo lagfix. After reading this thread I downloaded the modem.tar file for my version of Froyo and the PIT file. I entered the download mode and through odin I updated the phone modem using the modem.tar file and pit file. It worked like a charm. Now everything is OK. Be sure to remove the SIM card before update.
Thanks a lot for the ideea.
P.S. I used PHONE not PDA when I fixed my modem. And do not forget the PIT file.
I traded my Droid 2 for a fascinate last night. It was already rooted and running DL30. I have no sms/mms and want to get it working, obviously. I cant boot into cwm, I cant odin anything, and Im stuck. I dont wanna smash this phone against the wall but its heading there fast Someone please help. build is SCH-I500.DL30
baseband isS:i500.04 V.DIO1
To use Odin, you need to get into download mode. Turn the phone off, pull the battery, hold the volume down button, plug in the USB cable while continuing to hold the volume down button. Phone should now be in download mode and Odin should pick up the device (assuming you had the drivers installed as well already). When flashing anything via Odin, be sure to use the PDA button.
The issue sounds like you just need a new modem flashed to the phone, or downgrade your ROM to whatever version the baseband is. Personally, if you want to stick with Froyo, you should upgrade to EB01. It doesn't really fix much, but at least it has a modem available.
EDIT: Your issue is the DI01 baseband and DL30 build. I'd say update to EB01. If you want to stick with stock, go with DL09 and update to the EA28 OTA.

Yea, I just rooted a Vibrant the other night. That was no problem compared to this...
I dont think you guys are following me. I got this phone last night already rooted and running DL30. I DID NOT FLASH IT MYSELF. I cant get into cwm to do anything and odin gives me the message i posted a few posts ago. I have the drivers installed.
When your phone is plugged in and Odin is open, does the ID:COM field show anything? It should turn yellow and display the COM port your phone is connected to. Also, you are clicking the PDA button and selecting the file you want to flash, correct? Your process should follow this: http://goo.gl/TEv2T and if you want to flash a full image (ROM/Kernel/Modem) it would take the place of the modem tar file, but it would still go under the PDA button.
re what imnuts posted (I was drafting a similar post when his popped up)...
I have experienced issues with the usb port not working correctly. If the Odin ID:COM field is blank, you might have a usb problem.
Does the phone allow you to mount the sdcard using the Samsung drivers? If not, odin won't work either.

I'll second that. I was skimming through this thread to see if anybody actually helped you with your issue rather than just saying "google it, n00b" and other such bs like that.
People are right, there *is* a lot of information to be found in these forums, but some people have lives and don't follow every single post in every single thread. I miss my days in iAudiophile.net where when a member had a legitimate question, the least we could do was to post a link to another thread for them to follow.
...So which EB01 rom did you upgrade to?
I was following a guide to flash to boost.. but I wasn't flashing to boost but from sprint to sprint so as to avoid paying for a dataplan. Anyways.. when I copied my nv files from upstage to Epic 4G in CDMA workshop, my phone restarted and BAM! My phone gets no signal - stuck in airplane mode, Can open browsers, market.. some apps works but only a few. Unkown in baseband and firmware version under settings..
can this be solved or is my phone done for? Did I just trash my 400 bucks?
I've already tried resetting.. used odin to put in stock ROM/modem.. none of that worked. I did the 1, camera, power reset..
Thanks in advance for the help.

If your are able to put the phone in download mode (1 key + power ), then you shouldn't be bricked.
You will need a full .tar file. With being able to get into download mode and a full .tar file, everything should be re-wriiten as to get rid of what "failed" That should bring your Epic back to being an "Epic". From there, you can re-try the Boost thing - - - or not.

No problem. I saw your post as a question about how to get your phone back to normal - - after a "questionable" procedure. Not one of how to actually do something questionable/illegal now. Once you get your phone back to normal, what you do after that is up to you! Now, with all that being said . . . . on to other things!
I think that if you find a full STOCK .tar file - not one that has been deodexed and pre-rooted - it will overlay all ROM files with Stock sprint files. I have one on my laptop at home and can post it for you when I get home from work if you haven't found one on your own by then.
Hope this helps!
Edit: You didn't, by chance, use the Epic-to-Boost switch that has been posted on this site for some time did you? If I'm not mistaken, it's still on here somewhere, so I think the "phone police" will probably leave you alone - - this time!!
odin wont touch the NV items.. thats wasted time. if you backed them up, then rewrite them.. if not.. that sucks. hopefully you can find someone who will back them up for you. sounds like you wrote an entire nv read from another phone to your epic, which is not a great idea, considering they are different phones, with different writable memory locations and whatnot. and you wrote something to the modem area which throws an exception in rtn reset... best bet is to take the file you wrote, and give those memory addresses to someone with an epic and ask them to read those addresses and see if writing their dump will help you..
