Anyone have this yet? Wondering how it compares to NookColor, etc. Note there are two versions of this...the 70b being the newer model with only the two hardware button.
Specs look decent for an e-book reader. Android 2.1, wifi etc.
Would love to see a review...anyone have feedback?

I plan on buying it. it looks decent
but there no bluetooth built it.
I wanted to know if a bluetooth usb key would work or not.

Got it in MediaMarkt for 139 euros (available online starting 119).
Model Nbr - A7EM
Firmware - 1.0.0
Kernel - 2.6.25 / [email protected] #98
Build - V 0.18.ECLAIR.eng.root.20101209.172546
First impression - pretty slow (comparing to SGS 2.2.1), bugs in original keyboard, pretty bad resistive touchscreen (seems like or a bit better than other Archos tablets) , "read" buttons are not working with all applications, very sensitive orientation sensor - switching all the time, standard Android orientation is horizontal - but the device made for vertical/portrait orientation. So too many software "features".
Also, very important for any user, they made pretty bad decision of making scroll bars very thin on such pretty large screen. Meaning that they could not be used for actual scrolling and it is almost impossible to scroll any screen.
Summary so far - NOT RECOMMENDED for a novice user, but, as I understand, pretty standard so could be "tuned" by an experienced person. Especially if 2.2 ROM could be ported to it.
PS: Could not find any extra information about device itself and how it could be rooted so far. Very limited info on official site, no firmware available, almost no postings on any sites except of 1-2 reviews.
If anybody has questions - please do it quickly. I'm planning to return this device back because it is pretty much failing it main purpose - it has no convenient ebook reader application, so, considering very limited supply in Archos app store - (Stanza is missing!), it is too much work to make this device useful.
(will keep posting with info) Good news:
User 'shinset' posted very interesting video on Youtube "archos 70B ereader" : www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOqbPI3aqDQ
Some modifications were done to the software (see next post).
Not just being cool, but the device looks much snappier and many standard programs could be installed (excluding Google closed source ones as he said in comments). Also with stylus navigation on 70B resistive touchscreen is much easier than with fingers.
'NightTimeification' mentioned: "the only good thing about the A70B is the "c-paper" screen if you read a lot ". Confirming that screen looking pretty good for such a cheap model also color wise.

Indeed, but there is one problem with it - CPU is pretty slow, so any serious PDF is taking ages to load (like a minute to load every page). So I would not count on this device as being a good PDF reader. In emergency situation - yes, but any complex PDF - no.
PS: On my SGS phone with 1 Ghz CPU reading PDF is much more smooth, but the screen is only about 1/3 of 70b. No perfection in this world
Played with device the whole weekend. Here is a summary of how I think about this device:
For:
Size and weight are just right (for me)
Screen type (c-paper) meaning brightness levels, contrast and colors
Overall functionality for this money
Contra:
Resistive screen
Configuration of a single Home screen is just stupid
Immature and obsolete OS version (full of small bugs)
Incompatible with many Android apps I need (not installing)
The only reasonable usage is as e-book reader. All other are inconvenient in a sense
Low chances that it would be ever properly supported by Archos
PS: I've complained to Archos. Waiting for their reaction.

It looks that Archos never would contact me. So I'm bringing device back to the shop.
For others who are interested, some workarounds:
> Resistive screen
You need a stylus or something alike (finger nail) with small contact surface. Any scrolling easier to do in diagonal style: bottom_left to top_right.
Combining these two, the interface does not look so ugly any more.
> Configuration of a single Home screen
Get a different Launcher and make it default
> Incompatible with many Android apps
It should be a way. Probably in Archos Internet Tablets section they should have more information about this. May be just some libraries to be installed, may be this is just an Installer bug.
> reasonable usage is as e-book reader
It is not bad already.
WiFi driver is not power consumtion friendly - just keep it connected to charger
Browsing is not easy - just try different browsers
> not properly supported by Archos
Who cares! They are a commercial company, but there are a lot of enthusiasts around who might help.
> No bootloader or real permanent root
Get Titanium Backup and z4root, make a full backup (including System settings). So the applications could be easily re-installed and most of settings preserved.

Brought it for less than 100 euro. I've followed the instruction, making a very usable tablet. Even Angry Brids runs on it . I am however looking for a calendar app, which doesn't required the stock calender as it is removed by Archos.

There are numerous video's out there showing things the HD can do but MY version certainly can NOT. And despite how cool these features are, surprisingly hardly Anybody talks about them, I find almost no information anywhere on this forum or on Google.
Check out this video, for example. A nice demonstration of LOTS of features that to my knowledge do not exist on the HD:
http://www.theunwired.net/?item=videoview-hands-on-with-the-htc-touch-hd-windows-mobile-smartphone
- First of all, the thing that caught my eye the most, is THE LACK OF THE ZOOM TRANSITION EFFECT BETWEEN PAGES THAT WAS IN ALL THE PREVIEW VIDEO'S.
- Then, there's the the IN CALL RECORDER application. Where the heck is it?!
- And even more important (yes I like graphics), the OPERA TAB SWITCHING, with its Cover Flow-ish way of showing all the open tabs as separate windows in semi-3D... See the attached screenshots. Also note how the buttons in the browser (at the bottom) are aligned differently. Can I get this Opera version somewhere?
The list goes on.
Why are these things not in the HD, or are they in yours and just not in mine?? Is it some firmware update I don't know about?
Please, enlighten me.
why they have removed the tabbing feature is beyond me.
I wonder if these are features that can be enabled?
My girlfriend has the Nokia N96 and her version of Opera even supports this. No, it does not look as fancy with the reflections and all, but the same tab windowing is there.
Also they said this version would include Flash Lite 3.1 well I can't even watch a video on the YouTube site. It does show more than without plugin (the movie overviews) but no playback.
And the zoom effect... As stated in a different thread it may be a performance issue, I can imagine it can cause freezes and instability, just like with the Manila tab-to-tab scrolling where you would see one screen flip away and the other one in, like on the first Diamond firmware versions. They just removed that transition because it lagged a lot.
Too bad.. The zoom effect looked really nice, albeit a bit iPhonish...
The Opera tab navigation is a mystery to me though. It's completely unrelated to other software and so it would not cause instability, it's just a missing feature in Opera.
And where is my in call recorder?? Such a tool seems very handy in a lot of situations, such as when contacting help desks, customers etc.
hi guys,
i'm also very interested to enable or find the OPERA TAB SWITCHING like on symbian nokia or iphone, it is really great;
and another thing, i want to have more than 3 pages open at the same time in opera, and it is set to 3 maximum...do you know where to set more pages allowed.?
thanks
While I agree it sucks that some features were pulled, it happens. One feature I do like (a lot) that was left in was the zoom feature in Opera (not the tap on page thing).
Click on the magnifying glass (bottom left) when in full screen mode, zoom away.
Hi Folks,
I know there are several threads here around apps that either don't scale or just die the death on the HD, and I'm watching the list closely...
But I just wanted to know generally what happens with the HD in terms of scaling? Does it attempt to scale QVGA and VGA apps to fit the screen, or does it run them 1:1, or does it vary by app?
Clearly there are several lower res apps that work fine on the device so I wondered how it was handled but I've not seen a explanation of scaling on the device and why its an issue for some apps and not others?
I'm torn between a Raphael and a Blackstone for my next handset - I'm almost at the point of convincing myself I can live without my Kaiser's keyboard...
But given the high number of random apps I've got clogging up my Kaiser, I'm worried that incompatibility with that huge screen might be the one reason to make me steer clear of the Touch HD....much as I like the idea of all that real estate.
Thanks for any info, and apologies if I've missed a thread that gives this info already.
No thoughts then!?
I have to say I think I'm swinging back towards the Raphael now just to err on the side of caution with presumably a higher number of compatible apps!
I'd have settled for a diamond but need more storage!
I guess there are lots of people who don't know the answer to your questions. I'm one of them.
However, it might help if you clarify which apps you're particularly interested in. The scaling/resizing seems to be application-specific, rather than something that the HD manages. A badly-written app might not scale or expand whereas an application that was written to take account of any reasonable screen resolution would look fine.
As an example even Total Commander, which must have been written months (if not years) ago, looks fine on my HD because it expands to fill the full screen. Yet TomTom is much more sensitive to the screen resolution and many versions refuse to start up at all. (That's not to imply that TomTom is badly written, BTW.)
There are only a handful of threads in these forums about apps that don't work, so I guess that most are fine. But it'd help if you were specific about which ones of yours would be deal-breakers if they didn't scale.
Thanks for the response, my list of apps is pretty random but among others I've collected over the last couple of years and use are:
- a few astronomy apps (Asto Navigator, Astromist, PocketStars)...
- SPB Mobile Shell/diary (presume they'll be fine?!)
- Games (Age of Empires, Orions)
- Slingplayer Mobile
- Memory Map (overland GPS navigation on OS maps)
- WebCamera Plus
- I've already read a lot of the SatNav woes here and elsewhere so I'm comfortable that will be resolved anyway!
Cheers for any further thoughts or experience!
You can bet your left nut that if current apps aren't compatible then they will be soon, with both the HD and the Xperia having this resolution and becoming more and more popular. Do the websites for those apps report any kind of compatibility issues with specific devices?
If you're desperate then an email to those apps' developers might yield some answers.

Yeah, thats the way it works.
Most applications run just fine, you have more place and this place is filled with content. Other applications won't run, because they are hardcoded on (Q)VGA resolutions. One solution is the WVGA fix, so you will loose a few pixels and "simulating" a VGA screen, another solution is to play with the configurations of the applications.
However I haven't found a program that doesn't run on my HD so far, and I have already installed a lot of them.
Thanks for the positive commentary - looked at WVGA fix and it seems very encouraging!
Do you know whether it has any significant impact on application performance or is it very skinny?
Also I note that SlingMedia have updated Slingplayer with 800x480 support so that's another tick on the list!

I don't think that its significant. Even iGO8 runs with the WVGA fix.
Maybe HTC is reading this forum, so I start a thread for your changes and wishes for HD2. My changes are (wishes for HD3):
- Oled display
- display with capacitive sensors AND press sensitivity , for gloves, finger nails, stylus
- More battery power or less power consumption
- Hardware GPU support for ALL applications !!!
- TV - Out with adapter
- Hardware Buttons in better quality AND going inside (like iphone , Grr) , so you don´t press always any button if you just take the phone in your hand
- Maybe better CPU power or dualcore. I don´t need it right now, but 1 year is a long time and I want to avoid that htc use the same CPU for another 5 years as in the past
- Camera with 720 p video and better lenses.
- stronger WiFi connections
And my manila wishes are:
- manila style Task manger / switcher
- manila style task management tool instead of MS office old thing.
- manila style notes
- manila style counter and stopwatch, like it is in Android right now.
- manila style Email client !!
- better album application, with easy folders access.
- much better mp3 player ! : I want rate my music (and sync, of course), intelligent playlists for my own ( 4 stars, for example), I want to search for music with keyboard and switch fast though it with letters on the right side to jump to S for example. The last two wishes are already there, in the contact manager !! I want the same for music and video ! Better caching of thumbnails, there should be no reload every time I scroll. (same as contacts, there IS no reload !! right now )
- video player with folders and DETAILED view: I want an image AND the name of the movie ! Most time you can´t see what file it is, because it is just a small image . Rateing and playlists, too. And of course keyboard search and Jump to letter, just the same interface for contacts, music, videos, Footprints, weather cities with same slight modifications for each area.
- manila style google maps application with smooth !! multitouch.
- Opera 10 with multitouch, of course.
And : SAVE AND SNYC with ALL Manila and System settings with my desktop or in a file at least !!!!!
Imagine, you do a Rom Update or Hard Reset, just load this settings file and ALL your favorites and "make it mine" settings are back, without hours of tweaking again, your email is set up again, you weathers, your ringtone, ALL of it ! What a dream.......
edit - deleted until HansZimmer version 3 is released with a better humour chip.
I don´t understand your message. Do you think HTC is not going further anymore ? I don´t think so and just want to tell what for me as customer is important for the next device. And as far as I know htc is building the devices for us customers, so I let them know which areas are important for me. If you don´t have anything to tell about this subject, please let you opinion on another place. thank you.
How would I change HD2? I'd have it fulfill all the promises on the box and the specs: SMS without anguish, all notifications working as advertised, OS that worked out of the box and not needing constant hotfixes, a battery that doesn't have you constantly scoping out the next available wall plug...
Shall I go on?
Yes, please. This is the why I started this thread
Hardware: Nothing. I'd say it's perfect for now. No doubt it will be improved with faster processor, more memory, wimax in the future, but that's how it goes, and for its time it's just perfect.
Software: A "bigger" Sense. As in continue what has been done now, and "finish" putting that excellent layer over the old WM to hide it completely. But I'm pretty sure that's what WM7 will be. And don't forget to store a whole lot of settings in the registry so that we cant continue to tweak them to our own liking
Also, unified software and hardware specs to ensure inter-device compatibility, so we dont have software that works on some devices but not others, or miss support for hardware capabilities anymore, and a marketplace that goes with it. Also part of it as it seems.
longer battery, more than 3 alarms
that's it
imagine an HD2 with the same buttons on both side of the screen but the middle buttons are dpads/trackpads/touch screen maybe even track balls!

I'd love that! It'd be like the HP iPAQ hx4700 (4" VGA display PDA), which I LOVE. Buttons on sides and trackpad in the middle. Though I wouldn't want to make it bigger or make the screen smaller...
Stereo speakers. Such a beautiful device needs beefy sound to complete the package.
Bigger internal storage.
Sense should BE the default UI for Windows Mobile... forever. It is the most beautiful UI on any Phone OS to date!
HTC Should build their own proprietary OS just for their phones so that it is tailored to work the best in terms of speed and stability. And not some overlay on another OS. Love my HD2 tho!
The HTC HD2 is almost perfect! What changes I would like to see...hmmm...easy
1- Remove the camera protrusion in the rear.
2- TV-out
3- More internal memory
4- Video Call feature
5- Built-in VoIP SIP
What I would "want" them to do...
a- capablity to install Xeon QuadCore processor chip
b- Twin Hyper cooling fans for the processor
c- Night vision with heat/UV vision camera
d- Direct Blu-Ray quality video recording
e- Capablity to Plugin a USB external HDD
...think I've oozed out too much greed....I'll just stop now!

And don't forget this important aspect: purchase price!!
Putting the new HD3 on the market at $199 (€145, £127) would definitly be the best aspect of them all
And don't forget to give all accessories prices like: $27 for car charger, $ 25 for extended battery + cover etc..
Ah well... we'll have to keep dreaming, 'cause who knows what the 'evil' minds of HTC are up to next
Grtz,
Degake
santahtc,
yes, bring us good stereo speakers as my sharp 903 had.

I'd like the HD2 to have a more constructive forum on xda, where there's less trolls and flamers. Other than that, I can't fault it.

My team has been vigorously working on a CAD application for android. I will post some screenshots of the tool if anyone is interested, so please let me know.
It's currently being tested and developed using a Motorola Droid running 2.0.1. Although we can run the emulator and test different screens using it, we find great difficulty in knowing if the "feel" is nice on a smaller screen.
Anyway - current features that are working:
Objects: Line, Circle, Ellipse, Rectangle, 3 Point Arcs, Text Areas
Drawing Modes: Orthographic (including 45s), Grid On Off, Snap Mode On Off (Endpoints, Centerpoints, Midpoints, Quadrants)
Other Things: Undo, Redo, Erase, Modify (reshape & move), Pan, Layering System, Linetypes, Colors & Text Sizes.
In The Works: Zoom (Option for Pinch), Configurable Toolbar (Add/Remove Tools), Export to DXF & Linetypes.
We are looking for a few people that would be willing to get in on a "PRIVATE Beta" to assist us with the continued development. We have our day jobs, so this is a project that when we have time to work on, we do. However, we do spent quite a bit of time working on it .
Anyway - We want to be picky about the testers, simply because we need to have a nice round group of people. Not plumpy, just round. We need a couple guys that are good with input, finding problems, etc. And we also need a few that dont know anything about CAD and can help us to see if the average joe can figure it out.
We also need a couple good mathmeticians or programmers. Or even one would do. We are having some trouble computing certain boundaries (ellipses to be more precise) that we need to understand so that we can build in other commands like Trim or Extend. (Plus our select option on ellipses is a bit hokey, but knowing how to find an ellipse will solve that for us)
For now, the only assistance I can give you is through the board here, and help you get started. The tutorial will come soon, once we get the basics figured out as to how we want to make it really work.
Anyway - To make a long story even longer - let me know if you might be interested. I would be more than happy to post some screenshots if you like of its current state. So let me know if you are interested.
Thank you very much for sticking through the long a$$ read, or even for skipping through to the "thanks" is enough for me.
That being said - LMK! Thanks!
A capacitive touch screen doesn't seem a good candidate for controlling a smooth CAD experience. However on second thought, when coupling together this technology with a trackball, the possibilities really open up. Harness these well and I know you'll be onto something here.
Post some screens to show everyone the progress of your development and I'll let you know if I'd be interested in testing.
Cheers
Well if your looking for anyone with CAD knowledge, I have a degree in engineering with CAD, and Pro Engineer. I don't have much time to devote to beta testing, but I do have time every now and then. I run a ION with 1.6. Good luck on your software!

@Lancealot - Thank you very much, and I completely agree, that when we started this, there was some doubt as to how precise you could actually be using a "touch based" screen. The good news, through playing with it, and given ability to set tolerances based on the size of your "touch area" as well as snapping options, we found that you can actually be quite precise.
Ill fiddle with it a little today, put together a drawing and give you a nice example of something that can be made with this.
Keep in mind, this is a work in progress, and although much of the functionality that is currently built into the tool, is at a "finished" state, there is certainly room for input and comments from others that may find use in this tool.
Anyway - here are the screenshots as promised, let me know if you have any further questions.
(Again - sorry about the inconvenience on the links)
(edit to update image types to jpg instead of png)
@zul8er - we are certainly interested in your input. Check out the screenshots and let me know if you are still interested. We dont need a huge commitment, but anything that you might be able to provide would certainly be a big help.
Android 1.6 is the minimum OS currently supported. We need to do some work on the graphics to go as far back as 1.5 to compensate for screen size, and we intend on doing so.. Just not at this current time.
I would be interested in trying out your CAD program. I've been doing CAD for ove 10 years now, started with AutoCAD but have been using Solidworks for the last 8 years.
In addition to using the touch screen for input, will you be able to enter X and Y coordinates using a keyboard or virtual keyboard?
What format will it save the files? DXF, JPG, or what?

Currently the file format is a proprietary format. But we are currently (today actually) working on saving out to a DXF format to be able to reload your files into AutoCAD or other supported softwares.
The ability to import is also in the works, but will require some massaging on the users end to make sure the DXF file is not binary etc. (MTEXT may not be supported either)

We have toyed with the idea of being able to put in specific dimensions on objects, and also work with x/y coords, but at this time, it only supports point to point drawing. We arent completely sure if we intend on building a "FULL ON CAD" application, or an application for people to use to simply get an idea of what they need to do for a job. The other key, is to keep the application at a price range that is reasonable for people. Most "PocketCAD" applications run around 50 bucks a copy - and rightfully so. To keep the tool at a reasonable range (below 10 or 15 dollars) it may need to be a bit lighter weight than those. Most people cringe at a 2.99 app..
IF we could devote our time 100% i am sure we could build a really nice full blown cad app Unfortunately as with most of us, the day job prohibits some of that time.
Its a WIP I'll put you on the list. Thanks for the input.
Are you looking for beta testers?
Hi, are you looking for beta testers. I'm a long year CAD user, and I'm sure I can help with the app development.
[email protected]
Have you tried using some of the java based cad software as a source for your project? There are many and some might be open source.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ycad/
Yeah I am still interested. It will be neat to play with and see how it works. The coordinate input is a good idea, also, ever play with Pro Engineer? They have a cool way of building an initial drawing. You just sketch, regen, and then input your dimensions to make the object to your liking. Makes things a lot faster and easier to edit a shape if changes need to occur.
I dont know how in depth you want to go, or if that idea can be used.
My email is [email protected]
Nice
Give me a couple more days to get a good product out for you guys to test. Currently we are cleaning up a few little "we'll get that later" issues, and should be good to go by mid/late next week.
Thanks for providing the contact info, I will shoot you a message through email shortly.
Thanks agian for the interest.
@zul8er: nice. Look forward to hearing how you like the feel of it. I havent had a chance to play with ProE, as AutoCAD has been my forte for the last couple decades. Ill see if i can any kind of demo for ProE, and get an idea of how it works. Who knows Anything to make it easier for everyone is a good thing.
But yah - the indepth thing is the issue. We keep tossing with ideas and putting them "on the list" in case people start asking for them. I guess it just depends on how people really want to use this tool. (and of course, how much time we can continue to devote to it) - bah i hate day jobs
I enjoyed the screen shots that were posted. Any idea whether you guys will support rendering/raycasting, or physics with inverse kinematics? Either way it looks great; Sign me up!
haha Not sure if we are going to go the IK way. Maybe as a different project, something more suited to 3D, but for this app, we are only intending on running the 2D route.
My lack of knowledge about the OpenGL portion, really limits us with regards to 3D implementation. I spent a good 3 days just trying to get ahold of loading in a 3D model.. Still never got there (or would have probably released a 3D model viewer first).
At any rate, its hard to say where this will go. It mostly depends on the overall interest i suppose. Its certain that the sky would be the limit, if time were as available as the sky
But cool.. Glad I was able to keep your interest.
Currently (as I type even) I am finishing up all of the help documentation for the app, the inline tutorial, and what not.. A couple more days on the file handling (DXF in particular) and should be set to go for a BETA run. ('couple more days' - like we all havent heard enough of that)
@lancelot - can you send me your email address via private message? That way I can do the BETA communications through there (link to files etc). You are welcome to email me as well:

cheers!
Hey, I'm a high school student that has just started learning CAD, does that count as average Joe? I'd love to help beta test, I really want android to overpower iPhone 3.0 lol. My e-mail is [email protected] I use g1 with cyanogenmod 1.6...so idk if that qualifies. But anyways, Good luck!
This really sounds promising. In the last few weeks, I really had the need for a good drawing software on my mobile device. But my Tytn II lacks of power. As I soon will get the Desire, I will hopefully have a quite powerful device for all day use (my Tytn II really sux atm). And because I have the re-occurring need of a drawing app, this could be it.
I mean I don't need it for simple drawing, but for constructing things CAD style and on the go Graphics of furniture or something with measures and all that stuff.
Hey guys.. just wanted to pass you an update on status (which is so much more than I seem to be getting from Verizon on the 2.1 update).
Small rant, but its done now.
Ok - status..
DXF Export is working now, supporting layers, linetypes, colors, and elements throughout the drawing. Am having some issues with getting ellipses to export via DXF (and im not alone - faulty specs are at fault), and that combined with the other issues regarding the math behind finding ellipse edges, we decided to comment out the ellipse alltogether for now. Not that it wont be back, but having so many rules with "you can do this to anything - except an ellipse" left us with no other choice.
It's coming back, just not right now.
We have saving and opening completed (simple proprietary ascii format, but it works for what we need it to do).
Zoom is currently partially working (difficult to complete the recalculation on the elements, but its really close) touch events for zoom are coming up as well. Maybe a pinch zoom even, considering that all devices are getting the 2.0+ upgrade - but we will see.. We dont want to keep anyone excluded from being able to use the tool.
@Balrog82 - we have definately taken this tool a long way since its initial conception. We hope to be able to bring more features that are more "CAD Specific" to the application, and will if it becomes a tool that gets used. We want to release it initially as a "basic" drafting tool, and see what kind of input we get. If we see that a lot of people are using it, and would like the ability to put in dimensions the same way that cad does (within limits) we will certainly look into it.
That being said - I hope the tool is still something you would be willing to try out. I find a lot of enjoyment with working with a tool at its early conception (started using paint shop pro at version 1.42) and now its on to version 14 or something and owned by corel. I just kinda get into that sort of thing, and hope that you all will do.
Good thing is, we hope its a draw to the tool, we plan on releasing it at the market both as a free version (no saving abilities) and a full version at a low price. As the tool grows, the price may increase a bit.. Keeping of course the original buyers at a place that they can keep updating the software at no cost to them. We think that will help the advancement and development of the tool quite a bit.
Anyway - It is right around the corner for initial testing. Please to all interested - send me a PM with your contact information (just an email would be great) I am going to see if i can start a private discussion here to invite you all to as well.
@Lancealot - i got your PM.. Am very happy that you are interested in helping. Expect to hear from me again soon..
Until we can see a working model of this app, I thought I would throw out an app that has some great drawing capabilities. The paid was is called "Picso" by Tiki Move, but I used the free version to try out; it's called "Picso Lite".
It's not a CAD app, but it's different from the other Paint apps on Android in that it has tools the other ones don't. It has the usual tools a CAD user would need, such as Rectangles/Squares, Circles/Ellipses, and Lines. You can change the colors and widths of these entities.
What I like about your program is that it has snaps, and the tools are on the bottom of the screen so they are easy to get to: /talon-designs.net/android/andcad/07.jpg
A feature Picso needs is a Zoom tool so you can zoom in to an area and draw whatever you need to and then be able to zoom full screen. It also needs a text tool. Since there is no dimension tool, you could put a text for the dimension.
P.S.,
I want to try your app, but I am only posting this to show how someone else has put these tools on their app and also to have a comparison on ease-of-use. One other thought, you mentioned the files your CAD app will create will be proprietary file types. Will you be able to save-as .jpg or .png so you can email or text-message a sketch to someone? That way if your on-site you will be able to send someone back at the office whatever it is to explain your ideas, and also they would not have to have an Android phone to view it.
Idea sounds great. Good luck with it!
Sorry for being away for so long.. but we had something going on that we had to attend to..

Android Category Winner
Talon Designs, AndCAD
This application allows users to create simple geometric shapes, combined with notes, to describe plans associated with the art, architecture, engineering and manufacturing industries. Many of the tools familiar to CAD users are incorporated into this utility, meaning that fluent CAD users will feel right at home using this tool. However, the interface for this tool is simple enough for even the most novices of users to understand. This enables certain users (Contractors, etc) to be able to take notes while on a job site and associate them with vector elements within the drawing.

Did you get $10,000?
Hi folks,
Just want to share my ups and downs with my HD2.
I’m an average kind of guys who just likes to tinker with stuff and to be honest I’m still not 100% familiar with the terms used here and there (flash, roms, port, kernel, etc.). Wanted to post just to share some info and maybe help those in similar situation
CURRENT STATE:
Hardware – HTC HD2 (Asia version)
Winmo Rom – Stock? (I mean orginal, no custom roms whatsoever)
Android – MCCM SE V3.4 FroyoStone Sense
Stability – Almost PERFECT
HISTORY:
-Bought HD2 when first launched in Singapore (can’t remember exactly when)
-I don’t like the iPhone so I was soooo pleased about the positive reviews it was getting vs the iPhone
-But then the ‘freezing’ happended… argh… I’m a windows lover but dang the thing always freezes!!!
-Went thru several hard resets, pulling battery out, contain-my-frustration cycles…
-One thing I learned is that you can never be impatient when dealing with anything 'windows'
-In contrast to iPhone, Winmo is soooooo much more complicated and needs to be handled with care
-Anyway, moving along…
-Found Cookies Home Tab and voila!!!! It’s like a whole new phone!!!
-Loved the customizations plus new apps brought to you by O-market!!!
-Had reignited passion to make this the best phone ever!!!
-Must have apps (in my opinion)
- CleanRAM
- BSB tweaks
- Flip2mute
- Data Controller
- FPSCE
- ClearTemp
- TreeSize Mobile
- mmReset
-So, was crusing along enjoying my revitalized HD2… when…
-along came ANDROID on HD2…
-and there there was BLISS….
-Seriously, the feel was so awesome I couldn’t describe it
-Finally a great piece of hardware in HD2 found its perfect match!!!
-Of course, finding the bliss was no easy journey… here are a few of my ups and downs
- Bluescreen on start-up/stuck on htc – Hoping it went away fully already!
- Random reboot – I think lots of the folks here having the same problem
- process.android.acore not responding
- O M G. This is the worst!!!!
- All contacts are deleted!!!
- Can’t touch the phone!!! This acore thing cannot be force closed!!! Keeps coming back again and again
- No choice but to start from scratch
- I finally figured-out what was causing this on my phone after several miserable days…
- If you’re interested to know all you have to do is ask
- com.htc.bgp (or something like that)
- not nearly as annoying nor fatal as the acore stuff but still annoying
- figured it out for my phone as well so problem gone
- market app gone missing – this is because of Titanium back-up messing it up!!! Grrrr…
- fixed by simply recopying the build to sd card again
-Anyway, those were the downs… so I’m looking forward to the many ups!!! ‘coz I think right now it’s as stable as can be!!!
-BIG BIG THANKS again to Darkstone and MCCM and everyone else who loves their HD2 and cared to share their info on the net for others to enjoy and follow!!!!
-Must have apps on Android on HD2 (in no particular order – I’m just looking at my screens and writing them down)
- Days Until widget 1X1 (18 days before Xmas on my screen right now – so simple but love it!!!)
- Current Widget - informative
- pFinance (for currency conversions)
- Gesture search – amazing
- Vignette – for camera lovers
- Birthday Assistant Pro (Birthday widget, Ebobirthday and eGreetings all in one!!!)
- Yahoo mail and Yahoo messenger – staples for me
- App Manager/App2SD
- Music Downloader Pro
- Cleaner Pro
- Snowfall Live wallpaper
- Barcode Scanner
- Instant Heart monitor or something
- Friendstream (part of Sense)
- Notes widget (part of sense)
- Titanium Backup Pro – Lifesaver so many times
- MyPhone Explorer (forget about HTCsync!!! This is the best sync tool ever!!!)
- Angry Birds – nuff said
- Live Holdem Poker
- AppBrain
- Daily Strip – for comics lovers
- ES File Explorer
- First Aid – live saver in the future
- Desktop Remote (awesome!!!)
- Document Scanner
- DroidEmuLite
- GoChat
- JEFIT
-iphone ringtones
- Metal Detector
- Overclock widget or
- SetCPU
- Quadrant (my highest ever was 1761!!! Take that!!!)]
- TubeMate
- Task Killer
- Y5 Batter Saver
WOW – long list!!!! And I can come up with more!!! But let me leave it at that and for you to discover what more great apps are there. Btw, at first I had this principle NOT to buy anything… but I fell in love with Snowfall Live Wallpaper … and well… that is the start of the snowball I should say. Anyway I’m happy to support those awesome developers! More power to you…
For those who got to this part, wow… thanks for reading!
I still have a few issues which I’m hoping MCCM or any of you knowledgeable guys can help me with:
1) ORIENTATION/G-sensor issue
- Not a biggie for me but I’m still puzzled by it
- I have the typical HTC leather case to which I attached a Braun Buffel money clip with a STRONG magnet (don’t ask why)
- Anyway, when I’m on Winmo – the magnet causes NO ISSUES – meaning the auto-rotate and flip2mute kind of apps are working fine
- On android HOWEVER, the magnet interferes with the G-sensor/compass, such that it’s just stuck there, not moving. Can anyone explain to me why?
- Anyway anytime I need to, I just take it out of the case, but would be awesome if there is a fix to this
2) Facebook birthdays not accurate
- Still can’t figure this one out, but again for me it’s no biggie
- For some reason when Facebook for Sense pulls the data from FB some of the birthdays are off (earlier) by 1 day
- Funny thing is that other apps such as Ebobirthday does the same thing
- Only Birthday Assistant has everything correct (hence no biggie for me ‘coz then I just rely on this app)
- But of course if someone could explain and fix would be great!
3) Battery life
- Still looking for a way to manage battery effectively despite wanting to use internet all the time and use live wallpaper Care to share your battery consumption setups?
- Anyway I think the ultimate solution is an advance in technology that will give us 10 days of battery life in this awesome device!!! (dreaming on – yes) I really hate the bulky extended batt!
Well, that’s it for me!!! What a long post!!!
Please forgive as this maybe my first and last. ‘coz I’m really not a writer and I’m really a lazy person.
Hope I was (or will be) able to help/inspire some souls.
Peace!!!
Xander
1 thing i hate about android(early build) is, most of my photos and recorded movie in /DCIM folder lost..
Really nice to see you enjoy Android HD2 as well, my phone is a game station now XD
issues I have on mdeejay hd 3.4 with 7.6 kernel:
- Screen wake up time (same on every build) is terrible, sometimes doesnt come up at all
- PPP Stability issues (same on every build, but getting less and less every week)
- Overall extremely snappy, yet sometimes simple tasks like opening a text message or email take 10 seconds. Dont know why.
- *#06# doesnt show correct IMEI
Other than that, perfect. Did have 1 random reboot at one point though.
Thread moved to General.
Yoy are the best
Thank you for all great android roms You are the BEST
Haha, first off, almost exact same experience! And thanks all Devs as well, both WM and Android
What made me lol was that I had the same policy with Apps as you - do not pay for any until I was certain I was sticking with Android, and this lasted me for six weeks. And then I feel in love with Snowfall Live too!!! Now I've purchased that, and Robo Defence, and Hungry Shark, and...
Buy and download PSX4Droid, and the associate programme RomBuddy. Oh My God all those Playstation 1 games from a decade ago come flooding back, and it's pixel perfect. I followed and donated to FSPXE for WM, but when it came along I found it too much effort to find ROMs and set up the controllers all the time. PSX4Droid has none of that. Simply amazing. Simply simply amazing.
All I need is an e-reader which matches up to AlReader2 (in terms of file compatibility, readability, etc. and I'm 100% set for the next few years )
