Hi,
I am attempting the Froyo update on Vibrant through Kies Mini following the T-Mobile Instructions at the following location provuded by twitter account galaxyssupport
I am able to download and install Kies Mini successfully. The drivers seems to be correctly installed because Windows 7 or Windows Vista is able recognize the device. At Stage 3 as instructed I open Kies Mini. It asks me to connect my Vibrant to the computer. I complete this step and that is it. Kies Mini is not able to recognize that the Vibrant has been plugged into the computer though Windows is able to.
I tried this on three different laptops Windows 7 64 Bit and 2 different Windows Vista 32-bit. All to the same result. After going through some of the forums, I set the USB debugging mode on on my Vibrant and connected the device to the computer. On all the three laptops the Kies Mini Crashed with the following error "MiniApplication Launcher has stopped Working".
BTW I even tried by removing my SD card as some forums suggest. No luck
Anyone who has gone though similar troubles and could come up with a solution to get Froyo on Vibrant.
I called T-Mobile they said it is Samsung's problem and then I called Samsung. The CSR who picked up the call asked me few mundane questions some of them same questions repeatedly. Then she said she will connect me to an high level support and WOW that Number does not work and the call ended with the message "EXITING THE SYSTEM" !!!! Samsung and T-Mobile is a dead end now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,
TMax
Mini Kies wont recognize it with USB Debug on...it has to be off and try running it as administrator, with the stock TWLauncher..not LauncherPro, Zeam, or anything like that or you'll get a "Need idle screen warning" if your using one of those.
I'm having the same issue... i've did a factory reset... removed sd card... tried debug on and off... Still nothing. keeps showing "Unregistered Device"
You could just learn ODIN (not hard) and ODIN to this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919687
That'll be the same as getting it via mini kies.

I have "Unregistered Device" issue, it seems like all the exchanged/refurbished units cannot be updated for now.

what would that have to do with anything?
Damn, I have the same problem here.
Using TWLauncher (cleared Zeam defaults), not on debug mode...
I had the same problem. I was using a very thin gage usb cable. I then switched to a heavy gage cable and it worked just fine. Give that a shot.

I'm using the original cable. Got back to home (TW Launcher) and it worked.
I've spent a bunch of time on the phone with T-Mobile and Samsung; 7 hours. I believe the issue is with the KA2 update that was released a couple of days before the KA6. Neither Level 3 reps knew anything about it and kept referencing JI6. Used both Mini Kies received an unregistered device error (I registered my device through Samsung) and used the full version of Kies 1.5.1.1 and it said my firmware version was not available for an update. Use Odin it works and took about 5 to 10 minutes and I didn't lose my user preferences, apps, contacts, etc. Everything works great even GPS.
Ahhh
I am not a techy in any sense of the word so I have been waiting for the official release of 2.2 instead of rooting, because I'm scared ******** to try it. Now release date rolls around, finally, and I can't seem to get it to work. I am having the same issue, well first it was the 16 character file extension issue, but now it is this. My phone is plugged in, Kies is up and running, in my computer it shows my phone, by name, but no update. I have NO idea what so ever what usb "debugging," "touchwiz," or anything of the sort. Hell I am proud of myself for knowing what rooting is. Is there anyone who can help me get froyo on my phone?

Hi guys, does anybody have problem connecting to samsung kies app? My kies does not recognize my galaxy s when trying by cable or bluetooth, and when connecting by bluetooth I only can choose between win mobile or symbian device.
Anybody could suggest advice? It'd be very thankfull.

I hade problems even installing that useless program. Samsung must be ashamed for that "thing". Just dont use it.
Oh I see.
So what is the way of updating official firmware? I realize it's a noob question.

I'm a noob here too
I have learned through reading other posts though so here it is:
You don't need to have Kies recognise your phone to install firmware. You just need to have the drivers for your phone installed. Easiest way to do that is install Kies. It will automaticaly install the drivers. Whether Kies recognises your phone is irrelevant.
You basicaly can find all you need to flash official firmware at h t t p ://samsung-firmware.webs.com/samsungi9000.htm. There are also instructions on how to do it in the page. I also think there is a thread here with instructions but you will have to search for that yourself
Before you do anything I would suggest reading h t t p ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596&highlight=big+faq
One other thing is that I have not been able to make flashing with Odin work on my Win7 laptop. Thank god I still have WinXP SP3 on my desktop.
And sorry for the web pages not being linked. Noob users like me can't post links
So far no problem connecting for me. I am. Using win 7 ultimate.

Firstly the firmware on Samsung Firmware website is leaked firmware and is not official releases. So some of the firmware can be at a stage less then optimal. Just making sure you have all the facts.
Secondly you might be able to resolve your Kies problem by downloading the latest Kies, installing, connecting to your phone. If no luck then remove your SD card and try again. If no good then format your internal SD drive and try again ensuring you have backed up your data first to the SD card.
This has been found to resolve most Kies issues and enabled people to reconnect with Kies.
Wish you luck with it.

I just tried to install the latest version of Kies at work, wow was that worse than my original Kies install (the version just prior).
I got the same message I read about "no internet connection, try to connect again" or whatever, but I just blew through it and hit retry every time it popped up (probably about 35 times for just 84KB). So, anyways, I'm at 84KB out of 81KB (yes, you read that correct) and this method no longer worked, I had already disabled my firewall because I read something about that a while ago, but that didn't help here. So, giving up I hit "no", well Kies worked fine after that and my phone connected to it...
the install...sucked...tho...
I too had trouble using the latest Kies, just refused to see the phone connected, but I could use mass storage mode with no trouble...
Fix for me was to stop Launcher Pro and re set TWLauncher as default Home, then connect phone to PC and slect Kies mode, this worked a treat and Kies detected my phone straight away?
So If you are using a third party Home app, try using the TWLauncher as default Before connecting to PC...?
I had a lot of problems with Kies before. But after lates upgrade (2-3 days ago) i have 10 on 10 with success. I am on Win 7 Ultimate x64 and Windows XP pro SP3 at work.
I took of adw and kies worked fine for me.

The latest Kies is available as an executable download on the Samsung Firmware Website you only had to download this and install mate.
At least you have a working Kies now.

Hi All!
I've a strange problem connecting to Kies. When i connect the phone and select kies modus the mtp program tries to initialize and crashes. This happens in a loop and this happens even, when i connect it to plain linux (my windows runs in a VM). ATM i m using Samset 1.9c but it happens with stockjm5, too. any ideas?
Just posted up on the themes and apps page, but basically with windows 7 64 Bit it is terrible, hardly ever connects.
On my 32 bit desktop I can at least connect most of the time, but your constantly having to pull in and out the usb cable.
It crashes, syncing with outlook is buggy and clunky...
This really lets the whole galaxy experience down for me, love the device to bits, but connecting to the PC is a pain
I tried everything
nothing seem to work for me
are there other ways to update the phone? like OTA?
Have you installed the most recent version of Kies.?
Have you removed the SD card form the Galaxy S?
Have you formated your internal SD drive on the Galaxy ensuring you have a backup of your data.?
These steps all seem to fix most problems with Kies. Has for me, has for a lot of people.
Also Kies does not like Debug mode nor does it like Mass storage device so ensure these are off on the phone.
Hey guys.. Kies only work with the default launcher... I don't know why, but the MTP application don't work if you have other launcher (like ADW.Launcher). Try to come back to the original and be sure that you are at home before connect the phone in order to get the MTP Application windows on focus...
deleting ADW and restarted the phone and the pc that was the only way... whats the last firmware? I havent had a firmware update yet:S
Hi
I have no problems connecting to Kies, if i reboot the the phone and then connect.
You don't need to delete ADW... only switch to default launcher..
I have searched and tried a few things I found but with no luck. Makes me think the driver is screwed up. I have the US/Sprint tab if that makes any difference. I keep getting the Error Kies cannot connect and needs to be in PC Studio mode. Thx for any help.
make sure you havent enabled usb debugging mode and left it on
Some times restarting the tab fixes the kies connection problem.
FWIW, I wasted the better part of yesterday trying to get Kies to connect with no luck. Some of the remedies I tried were a utility to locate long file names on the Tab and installing a UK version of Kies.
I believe the general consensus is that for many of us, Kies is a POS. Since I can't get it to connect, I seem to be stymied in my attempt to regain root access until another fix comes along.
Have you used adb? Or odin? I have flashed 5 tabs and never used the kies program.
Have not tried those. Is there a link on how to use? I really want to get my Root back.
"Have you used adb? Or odin? I have flashed 5 tabs and never used the kies program."
Haven't tried adb, although I used it when I originally rooted my MotoDroid. However, I don't recall seeing anything for using it on the SGT.
I have a Sprint Tab, so I thought odin would not work on it.
Please note that the US version of the Tab are not currently supported by the full version of Kies. You can only use the mini version of Kies with the tabs to do firmware upgrades only. Also of note, I can connect and get Kies-mini to recognize my T-Mobile tab, but no firmware upgrades have been made available.

guys I think this is because he is in the states. Its obvious Samsung's servers aren't ready for them it isn't even out yet. Hack reg kies or flash Odin. However it is only minor fixes. Swype + little connectivity issues and auto brightness fix. Unless you use them regularly I wouldn't worry about it.

Read the thread, the OP has been helped.
I see alternative ways outside of Kies for doing things, but nothing that covers why the 'proper' way of doing things doesn't work for some of us.
Oh well, it's proper enough for the official service centres to use that where it came from.
In case it helps anyone else, a combination of uninstalling Kies, reinstalling and using a different USB port [on a laptop, so they are all on the motherboard] appeared to do the trick for me, though I have no idea why that should be.

I have got the same problem as the OP while trying to update the firmware of my galaxy s II. I tried everything from reinstalling kies to running it as an administrator and I even connected to every usb port on my laptop. The same thing happens: When i click skip backup and start to download the update, the connection is immediately lost (as shown in the SS of OP).
I haven t tried ODIN yet, and would rly like to update my phone with kies and use odin as my last resort since I m not a techie.
I also disabled the anti-virus and also tried to update my phone in flight mode without any success :/ I should also mention that my kies is somewhat ****ed up as sometimes it keeps connecting to my device. To solve the problem i have to uninstall the drivers of my phone from the pc and reinstall the device automatically once i plug it in the pc. After that kies connects automatically to my device.
Somebody else is experiencing the same problem and managed to solve it? Any help would be appreciated Thanks
I can't Kies to work at all. It detects my phone and has presented the firmware upgrade dialog couple times but the upgrade always fails before starting. I've disabled my firewall (Windows Firewall) and anti-virus (Security Essentials) to no avail. Backup also never works, it just says "Preparing..." forever. There seems to be no way to trigger the update manually (rightclicking on GT-I9100 shows firmware upgrade item as disabled).
running windows7 64bit.
when i plug in the USB to my phone i only get the option to mount SD. I've tried looking for a USB mode under settings to ask what mode i need but can't find any options under settings.
so when my phone is connected to my pc i just get an error message from Kies saying phone not recognised.
any tips?
thanks
Switch phone OFF .
Run Kies as admin
Start Kies when Kies loads connect USB cable Kies should now show on phone . Kies will then find phone .
That fails close Kies connect phone in USB mass storage mode let PC find drivers disconnect and fire Kies up again .

Im not sure if what you said also aplies for my problem: I have Windows XP.
Yesterday I connected my SGS2 to my mother's laptop which runs Windows 7 and all, worked pretty good.
Today, I have been trying for about 5 hours to connect my phone to my PC. It runs Windows XP. I am now at the point that I start Kies (tried Dutch, then UK, now US version of Kies) and I plug in phone.
It says 'connecting' and doesn't stop. I have waited for 10 minutes and nothing. The device is in 'MTF mode' or something. On my moms Windows 7 laptop the computer starting doing things (installing drivers or something?) and that name quickly changed a few times, after which it worked with Kies. On my PC, nothing.
I have installed drivers trough Kies itself. I have searched till the edge of internetz.
I give up. Somebody please help me.
PS: I always have problems like this. Thats why I dont touch my PC so often. Everything that can be done in 20 minutes goes wrong with me and it takes me hours. Computers hate me.
Edit: I tried what is told here and it doesn't work -_-
Edit 2:... Im giving up. After trying all day (Sunday is boring anyway) to update my phone via Kies I give up. I will remain forever at the same software. If Kies ever decides to stop ignoring my phone, he can call me.
I have the exact same problem... I've Googled around and tried tons different suggestions, but none of them seems to work.... I'm going crazy!!!

Off course. If I have the debug mode (usb connection) on Kies will say I have to switch to Kies PC Suite mode.
On the other hand, USB storage works. When I try to connect to Kies it says connecting for a long time and nothing happens or it stops.
One thing I have noticed is when I turned my sound on it was like the connection between my phone and the PC kept going on and off once in a while. I have really no idea what is going on, but since I have spend almost an entire Sunday trying to make it work and havnt succeded I believe its not a standard problem (and I am no idiot, nor am I a l33t haxor)
Anyway, I will just wait. I mean that update isnt THAT important, it just bugs me I cant make it work lol
Oh, and I have tried different USB ports, just in case that one was broken.
I am also having problems, with Kies via WiFi. It connects and everything, even displays the content on my phone on my laptop screen in the Kies window, however when i click upload (a photo for example) the documents box and folders inside display all silver and when i open a folder with photos inside, no photos appear.
I am rooted on KE7. Funnily, it worked this morning...so i don't know what's happened since then
I am a newbie, so please be a bit simple in your reply.
Thanks

Kies tries to connect, only to result in a "This device is not supported by Kies 2.0".
I tried using diffirent USB-ports, reinstalling Kies (latest version ofc.) and reinstalling drivers.
USB-debugging is off ofcourse. I also tried different languages (Dutch and English UK), I'm using stock TW 4.0 and i haven't rooted my phone.
I can drag&drop files from my PC onto my phone with simple copy/paste.
Strange that Windows (7 x64) does recognise my phone.

Connects fine using Launcher Pro.
Just before Updating to KE7 I wasn't able to connect to Kies (it had never happened to me before).
I completely uninstalled Kies, then re-downloaded the install file from Samsung UK.
After I reinstalled Kies, phone connected just fine and I was able to update the firmware.
Not sure if that will resolve the problem for everyone, but it did work for me.
I was actually using Launcher Pro, but swapped back to Touchwiz, and killed ALL background processes. It didn't work either. I also tried to switch USB-port, but no! Nothing seems to work.
Open to any suggestions!
Hello. I also have problems connecting through kies. My computer can't install CDC serial drivers. I don't have a clue why do I need CDC serial. My big problem is that I can't get the drivers working so Odin can't recognize my phone.
When I install it the first time I choose another location than the real one. I tried to reinstall again but the installer doesn't ask me again the location but just the language. Do you think the location could be a problem for the installing of the drivers? Thank you very much. I hope we can find a solution cause it's frustrating to have such a wonderful phone and the worst customer support. I remember that I had the same problems with Galaxy S. I need it one week to find the solution. Damn u Samsung!
At first I had USB Debugging on and ADW as the launcher.
By turning of Debugging and switching to stock launcher I was able to get the MTP driver installed and had the USB cable image thing on the phone whilst plugged in. However I still couldn't get part the CDC driver.
Running out the door this morning, I removed Kies on my Win7 machine and reinstalled, and also installed Kies on my rubbish XP netbook.
Didn't have time to check the Win7 box, but the XP netbook has got Kies talking to my When I get home I'll see if making sure that debugging is off at the start and stock launcher is set before plugging it back in to Win7.
I had a similar problem with Kies, but after a hard reset Kies works again. Dont think Ill use it anyway but it was good to get it working again just in case.

Hi all.. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 gt p7500 one month old, and I saw that there is finally an update to ICS. I still dont got it try mobile netowork (t-mobile - Macedonia), so i read that I can update thru kies. The problem is, I cannot connect mu tab to kies??? I dont have an USB option on Wireless and Networks and it connects in MTP mode. Is there any way to fix this problem and if not, how can I update my tablet to stock version of ICS in some other way? Please help...
Regards
It sucks that kies won't work now that ics is out. I'm having trouble updating mine as well.
Kies is not a product
I have tried for almost a year now to get my tab recognised by Kies, but only a factory reset will get Kies to recognise my tablet. The moment I install my own software on it again that disappears.
Kies via Wifi has no firmware upgrade option, sad to say, so best wait for OTA upgrade.
I am waiting too for the OTA as that POS named Kies is not working for me. But it is coming, just be a little more patient. It is rolling out in the US, maybe even in Canada. The rest of Europe will follow, or you can download from samfirmware.com, and do it over USB via Odin (lots of threads covering that)...
Best of luck!
I did a reset in anticipation of the update and was able to do the update through Kies
with no problem.
I had 2 Galaxy 10.1, one of them could only connect wireless for update, not with Kies, the other one could not update OTA, only with Kies... and to connect I had to reset the device, Kies is really worth nothing...
One of the reasons why I am only using custom ROM
I fought with it for a couple hours last night, and finally resorted to a factory wipe. Then it was fine. Just means a few hours of reinstalling and configuring widgets, but still annoying as hell that after 2 years Kies doesn't work with 3.2 stock rom.

It's far worse: I could never connect to Kies. One day I just wanted to test connecting to Kies, so I did a Backup with Titanium Backup and then a factory reset. Thereafter I could connect without any issues. So I restored all settings - user and system data with everything! - from my TB and expected not to be able to connect after doing that. But oh wonder! I still could connect to Kies!
But about a week later it was again like before: No connection to Kies :silly: That was the last time I started the software on my PC :cyclops:
After the update, and after I updated the apps that are included with the tab, and after I reinstalled all of my apps,
I tied Kies again. Tab connected wih no problems.
Looks like that's one of the things fixed in ICS.
From what I gathered from the internet and other forums the problem with Kies apparetly is that if there is a file with a filename that kies doesn't like, it won't connect. The big problem is find that file or files

That is my understanding too. But when I remove all non-essential files (i.e. "personal" files) from the system it still did not work... So it must be one of the files related to a product.
To find out which one (or which ones...) will take a lot of time, and I do not want to spend that much time on a POS product like Kies... So for now I will wait for the OTA update, or the end of August 2012, whatever comes first. If it still is not there at the end of this month I will go to one of the custom ROMs, and never look back.
XDA is no longer worth my time.

That IS an interesting concept. Never thought that might work. I have given up, surrendered to Kies, reset the GTab, got Kies working, but alas, no update here in Canuck Territory... So all for naught!
I will try your approach on the other GTabs I've got...
Thanks for the tip!
-- EDIT --
Guess what? When running Firmware upgrade and initialization I get the message: "'GT-P7510' does not support initializing."
And that is all I can do, no upgrade via that path possible...
I did a factory data reset and upgraded to ICS via wi-fi. And my 7510 was still rooted
