Well, since no one else has answered you yet and until they do, tell me what you searched for and on where. I will help you improve your searching capabilities. Since you are new to this site it is probably best that you take this suggestion from me before some body comes along with a bad attitude and totally flames you. I would also suggest that you don't start threads until it is a last resort and you have done days of searching.
Also, you may want to list your device, OS, Radio, Rom, Carrier etc....

I'm stumped. And agitated.
I'm stumpitated.
Every Cyanogen-based ROM i flash, I cannot get Wifi or mobile web to connect.
This is true of all current Froyo builds (all Cyanogen) and roms like Droid Does.
Weird thing is, I can get connected to wifi and ping local computer IPs. But I cant ping any websites or load them in the browser or apps.
I am flashed to MetroPCS. Haven't had any problem in ROMS like PlainJain, xtrROM, Evil Eris, etc.
Anyone have any troubleshooting steps or insight? Thanks in advance - I love this community!

Not that I'm aware of - how would I find out? Do the ROMS themselves not define the kernel?
Beyond that, why would it work in all other non-cyanogen based ROMs?

I said Wifi doesnt work for me, not for you. Thats the issue altogether - it seems isolated for some reason.
I tried KaosFroyo, CELB and the CM direct, as well as DroidDoes (TCP's new cyanogen based). Can't get Wifi or Mobile to work on any other them. ROM doesnt matter, it seems to be anything cyanogen based for me.
Grdlock, Ivan, xtrRom, xtrSense, EvilEris, etc have all worked for me completely though - non cyanogen based.

Its just such a weird thing, and I feel limited by it, and the fact that it seems to be so isolated is irritating.

Guys,
I know it works on other peoples phones. Not being rude, but I dont need a list of people who its working for. I'm asking for some help, some direction, some possible things to check.
Not to be off topic.. but can someone direct me to the CM direct ROM? I haven't seen that anywhere. Sorry if thats a stupid question lol
Its just the one with CM in the post title.

Try my flash for metro here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289
As always make a nandroid backup first.
Make sure you have booted your rom at least once successfully before applying my flash (it modifies the telephony.db that will not be present until after the first boot)
The problem you are running into is that in the build.prop the carrier info is still pointing to verizon, once i changed mine to cricket it worked, i assume changing it to metro would work for you as well.
I believe metro's proper MNC should be 310024 if you want to edit it manually, if i recall off the top of my head, anyways my flash should set that for you and get you squared away.
EDIT**
Actually sorry i mis read this, my flash will not assist with WIFI but it should get your mobile network to route through metro's proxy and get MMS working.
This sounds like a ROM issue if wifi is not working, or something hardware related.

Already running your flash, boss
Doesnt make a difference on these roms for me.
Works nice on xtrROM, though
Hmm, so to clairify if you use CELB 2.8, boot it, then flash my flash, then boot CELB then reboot CELB that you still do not get mobile web/mms?
Weird, almost sounds like your not getting DNS or something.
if you do an NSlookup on like www.google.com, then on the phone try to ping the number you got from nslookup, do the numbers match or what comes back?
I think that this flash won't work for some Froyo ROMs for whatever reason.
Either Autostart doesn't start up (did it ever ask you for SuperUser permissions, ever?)
Or
u2nl needs to be in a different place (worth investigation)
Or
Your proxy is set correctly, so wifi is trying to go through the proxy (which may not work), but something else isn't working correctly, so wifi is looking through the proxy, but something ELSE is wrong with mobile network.
Do a nand backup
then restore yourself to a 2.1 ROM and make sure it still works.
Is the first condition I listed at the top of this post, the case? Or did it ask you? 2.2 might have a superuser issue with Autostart. That'd make sense, since the Proxy might be working (which would be why your internet won't work when wifi is on), but your Mobile Network won't (which, of course it wouldn't, of Autostart wasn't starting up).

Sorry, but I don't know what there is to "check". There are NO options or configurations necessary with the WiFi setup.

K, CELB 2.8 was the first Cyanogen rom to work, thats cool - but it didn't work with your flash. I had to do the manual input from the guide. I already had autostart.sh and u2nl in my root - does your flash overwrite them? still, even if it didnt, it should have set the right permissions, right? I wasnt until I input all the shell commands that I got mobile and app web.

This wouldnt explain while neither Wifi NOR mobile web doesnt work on either. I can't get either to work all all, and they both work on regular 2.1 OTA Roms (and now CELB 2.8)

I use xtrROM 3.0 day to day, and its always worked. So yes, it still does.

Autostart asks for permissions, so I assume its starting i'll try again just to confirm. You mentioned the Proxy might be working which would cut the wifi - how do I get around that?
I'm picking up my phone tomorrow. I was wondering if any of the tethering apps work with or without root on this phone yet. I know the more popular one requires a kernel with netiptables enabled. I'm not sure if the default kernel supports this or not.

I'm sure PDAnet works or you can just change the APN settings to use native hotspots without getting charged.
"native hotspots".... as in.... anywhere a 3G connection is available?

Like the built in tethering option and yeah pretty much anywhere you can get a data connection.
I got the Barnacle Wifi tether working without much challenge thanks to the Devs in the other threads. Could not install it from the AppBrain market but was able to follow the links to download the APK and install it from the internal sd card. Tried to get the widget to donate too,but could not do so from the market place.

Me either, this is my first Android phone. I did a search for wifi hotspot in the AppBrain market and it came up. My limited test with it was good. Used the APN setup from other threads and rooted the phone, also described elsewhere. Then downloaded the APK and installed it. A fairly straight forward process.
Problem with PDANet is the huge cost when I'd only really use the feature when traveling. How is barnacle wifi? Does it support encryption?
I am using a basic WEP key, not sure what you want out of the encryption. Better to check developers web site, I know there are some challenges but it is a little out of my league without spending a long time reading about it.
Well WEP/WPA/WPA2 type of encryption so someone doesn't steal my limited data. Does it support WPA/2 by the way? WEP is pretty easily cracked these days, but it is better than nothing at all.
I've just rooted my phone now what can I do? Can someone point me in the direction of some good roms
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
Well I'd say one of the best things that comes from a rooting your phone is Wireless Teather
https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether&feature=search_result
You can "teather" your phones internet connection to other WiFi devices, like a laptop or portable device.
Also, overclocking your phone (making the processor run faster) is pretty sweet:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.antutu.CpuMasterFree&feature=search_result
Not to be a jerk but it's "tether" not "teather". SetCPU is a great overclocking app and is free if you get it from XDA but overclocking will only work on kernels that support it.

Despite the slight grammatical errors pointed out by another poster, tethering is indeed a great tool to utilize after rooting your phone.

Could you please explain what exactly tethering is?
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
Tethering is allowing your computer or laptop to use your phone's internet connection. Depending on the app and type of tethering you might also be able to use things like a nintendo DS, tablets, etc. Most game consoles can also be tethered but not directly, you have to share the connection through a computer.
P.S. the only reason I corrected the spelling is to make searches easier, not to be a jerk.
Search market for AdFree , install and update(run) it.
It should rid ur phone from all kinds of advertisements , in-app and browser ones too, def a must have
Hello,
I rooted my phone (HTC Evo) in order to use screencast because I'm disabled and can't use my hands. I then installed cyanogen and my apps that came with the phone are gone (voicemail, market, etc). Can someone please help?
Thanks!

You need to install the gapps.zip file for your phone to get market, youtube, gmail, etc back. You still won't have your data but the apps will be there.

thank you! do i put it on the sd card?
You flash the gapps zip the same way you flash a normal ROM.
does overclocking make your device hotter?
It can yes, it can also shorten the lifespan of the phone if pushed too hard too long as well as cause stability issues but as long as you don't push it too far you should be fine.

The voicemail app/widget isn't back...what can I do?
Hi... I've searched the internet and forums for this and came up with nothing... My frustration is that it seems every time I pick up my phone to use it, it starts updating apps... I know I can turn off automatic updates but I know I will rarely manually update... I also have it set over wifi only... my question is: is there a way, or a third party app, to control the time when updates can occur? I would prefer them to occur while I'm asleep and not using my phone. I have a rooted phone on a custom rom. I've read theories about using a tasker and greenify but there were no details. Thanks in advance.
