If you are in college, check the on-campus bookstore. Apparently Arkansas Tech University has a class on making android applications I can't wait to take it!

I have been going through the "Sams Teach Yourself Android Application Development in 24 Hours." It's pretty good so far. I would be interesting in hearing what other books people are using and what they think of it.

Appreciate it did you have any experience before reading that book? It sound like its for users that already have a feel for developing apps but I'm still about to read it and try to figure it out thanks for the suggestion and luck

I highly recommend http://www.commonsware.com
Mark Murphy posts on StackOverflow and the Android Developer discussion every day - I started by buying his book Beginning Android 2 for $39.95 at Barnes and Nobles and then found out that for the same $40 I could get 3 books at commonsware .com and get free updates for a year.
Related
I saw one for iPhone at Barnes and nobles the other day and I was wondering if there was one for android. The android development page helps a lot but it would still he cool to have a book like that.

Thanks Guys
Honestly didn't expect it and was really surprised to see it today. My d/l's on it shot threw the roof over night and I was kinda baffled as to why and then one of the user said I made gizmodo so I googled "Screaming Android" and it was everywhere.
I'm actually kinda humbled cause I really didn't expect it. Sure the wife will be happy to hear it since she was kinda annoyed on the amount of time I spent on it without asking for any donations (probably will never ask) or trying to sell it.
This makes me want to release the other versions I made (like 3 more) some are un-branded. Maybe I'll look through and see what allot of you were asking for.
I can't wait to see what you do next

I kinda want to get into developing, but I don't know where to start or how to start. I want to make a personal one until I get some knowledge in case something makes a booboo. Also kinda looking to make a kernal.

Ok man, if I were you I would play around with a linux box to get to know linux commands, then I would play with modding the kernel on that linux computer. I recommend this so you don't build a rom with a how to and. Then put it on your phone and end up with a brick.

In the near future I'm going to buy a new hard drive for my desktop computer and will install windows 7 and linux(Ubuntu the newest version) so I can duel boot. Is there a suggested linux OS?
Now before you ask "why do you need a new hard drive?" Well that is because somehow I lost it, dont ask me how ha.
I shall try my best to learn!
Can't start until I replace my mobo; but should be done within the next week and a half

Thanks for that.
It's been very frustrating looking for apps that aren't made purely for the small screen world.
I will now do some searching!!
Love it, many thanks.

Aww sorry to put you in the process of typing that into the play market. I know it took my buddies daughter about a couple of mins of doing that herself. I can imgine it would have taken less time that making that post. Oh well that's life, people will spend more time making useless posts when someone was trying to recommend a fun app. If only we could get a mobile os that was built by a search company that would make searching for stuff on our tablets easier.
