[Q] Reverse creation for Android 2.1 ROM - Android Software Development

It might be not the right question, but I'm going to ask it and hopefully someone will answer!
I have a tablet that has android 2.1, I managed to root it and make some changes to it. My question is, can I create an image of the entire ROM on this unit and use it on another device.. I'm assuming it should be created as an image. The goal is to send it to my friend so he run an update.zip and update his unit will all changes.
Thanks in advance!

the best you can do is a titanium backup and share it with him so he has all your apps. unless its the same device it will most likely break his phone.

Identical device! thanks alot for the hint!

[REQ]ROM for M3 (from Handheld) [BOUNTY: most likely!!!]

Am trying to find a ROM for a device we use at work, its painfully slow and I would like to know if any chef around there could possibly help out in cooking a ROM for it.
I can supply a unit for testing purposes.
More info about the unit can be found here:
http://www.ruggedm3.com/default.asp
and here (in Swedish!):
http://www.handheld.se/prod_m3.asp?m1=produkter&m2=handdatorer
It runs windows CE 4.2 (which i presume is 2003 second edition?), and thats fine, but I'd like some stuff taken away from the ROM and a few changes made, not much really.
Its ok to PM me or answer in this thread (unless the mods remove it... )
Hm.. what stuff do you want to be taken away?
A few applications that are not neccessary and change a few registrysettings plus add two certs. I think thats it. As I said, I dont really want that many changes...
Well this is easy I just need the rom image if you have it

Request- Nandroid or image of /system please

Hi folks,
I'm from the GSM Hero dev scene, and I've been looking for a dump of the Eris with final, official 2.1 ROM on it. I can't find one, and have tried unsuccessfully to patch the old RUU from december using the OTA, but I've spent far too long on this part of the process.
So, I ask if anyone would be so kind to point me in the direction of a nandroid dump of the new ROM, or a form of RUU image for the ROM. I have looked around here for a bit to no avail, so I was asking in the hope someone had one to hand, or would be willing to out their way to make one.
As it will be a large file, anyone who would be so kind to make one (if it doesn't yet exist) would be able to upload it to our FTP server (VillainROM.co.uk) if needed.

[Q] Some questions about rooting HTC Wildfire ?

Hi,
I have bought a brand new HTC Wildfire and am awaiting for it to be delivered. It is on Vodafone (uk).
I would like to root my phone when i get it and would appreciate your time if you could help answer some questions i have.
1) If i root my phone can i revert back if i want to? by this i mean go back to the Vodafone default, sorry don't know what they call it, basically so it's back with Vodafones custom android or whatever it is they call it.
2) I guess i will loose everything on the phone like apps etc? can i backup everything before hand?
3) I would like Android 2.2 which i believe is the latest version, by rooting the phone how would i go about then updating to Android 2.2? would i just need to check for updates from the HTC website or something?
4) I here about all these custom roms, can someone explain what these custom roms are? are they modified versions of android or something?
5) If i am able to update to Android 2.2 does that mean i can install apps on the sd card to save the memory in the phone as this would really benefit me?
6) Do i need to root the phone to install Android 2.2 on it?
Maybe i don't need to root the phone to get Android 2.2, if not does anyone have a guide on how i can do this please?
Thanks for any help and sorry if these questions have been answered before.
I did read the UnRevoked Guide which has explained things a bit and sounds the easiest way and red all the replies to.
Thanks
MR
1) Yes. You do this by finding the relevant RUU on the internet and then flashing it to your phone.
2) Rooting does not make you lose any of your apps, it just gives you more access to your phone in a way. When you install a custom ROM you can use a program like Titanium Backup to backup all your apps. Also you make a Nandroid backup of your phone that you can recover in case something goes wrong.
3) Over the air (OTA) updates of Android 2.2 will be coming before Christmas it is thought so if that is all you want you could wait. There are a few different 2.2 based ROMs available on this forum if you look through the threads. This thread lists the different ROMs with links to each thread and there are some links to guides as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822181
4) The custom ROMs are community modified versions of Android that provide something different to the stock ROM. Some of them have HTC Sense, some of them are the standard Android interface. Which one you choose all depends on what you want out of your phone. See the link above for more info.
5) Yes a feature of Android 2.2 is apps2SD. This is available in the custom ROMs.
6) If you don't want to root your phone then you can wait for the OTA update of 2.2 from Vodafone. If you don't want to wait then you will have to root your phone.
I believe those answers to your questions are correct although you could be better waiting for a more experienced member to reply. I suggest you read as much as you can about rooting and installing custom ROMs so you can make sure you are making the right decision and that you know what you are doing.
You need to be aware that rooting your phone will void your warranty.
Hi,
Thanks for replying, this has really helped answering my questions
Thanks

[Q] What to do before flashing a ROM

Hey guys I need some help on what the procedure is before flashing a ROM to this phone. I have had other phones in the past that I have put ROMs on. Most of these phones have threads that have what you need to do before you can flash a ROM. However, I cannot seem to find one for this phone. So with your help I would like to make one for this phone. I just need to know what is need and the options are for it. I can then compile all of the info and make it look pretty for any one else looking for this information and hopefully have it sticky-ed.
Thanks for the help guys.
Hi.
First root using SuperOneclick
Allow install unknown sources in your phone
Install Defy 2init
That's it, you're ready to install any rom you want.
All this apps can be found easily here.
Hope it helps.

android backup

Good evening, first off i apologize if there is already a thread out there on this but i cant seem to find one anywhere..
Basically i wish to install malaysk rom onto my px3 7.1.2 head unit, however i'm concerened there may be issues with the rom in which i may require to revert to the original factory settings without root access...
Is it possible for me to take a copy or backup of my existing mcu rom (MTCD_MX_V2.59_1) so i could reinstall it if needed?
Thanks hope someone can point me in the right direction of a guide or any tips!
Josh
