Reboot into recovery, and flash the rom again. If you can. That will install the correct kernel for the phone. Hope this helps.

What he means is, flash a 2.2 rom at all. You flashed a 2.2 kernel on a 2.1 rom. This may have to be done through odin, however.

If it's stuck on the Vibrant screen (boot loop), it will not be able to boot into recovery, most likely.
Easiest fix would be to get the thing into download mode and flash the correct kernel through ODIN.

Haha. Correct. I forgot that stock is 2.1. I would Odin back to stock and start fresh.

Above is correct, get in download mode and reflash 959JFD. That is the safest and best way to fix, click the repartition and you will get a fresh stock install. You will lose your contacts and pics, etc if you do not already have backup........... but that is the way it is.... look in the bible it has all the info you need

How do you flash a kernal?

Let's say I were to flash Eugene's new 2.2 rom, how would I reflash the stock kernal in order to downgrade?

Your post confuses me. What are you downgrading/to? There are two ways (that I know of) to flash a kernel. One is to flash it through recovery. Two is the flash it through odin; which I am not familiar with and do not prefer.

Where exactly is this so called "list" you speak of?

Odin is one way (my preferred). Only have problems if I disconnect the phone (oops) or package something wrong.
Turn phone off.
Start Odin.
Load tarred zImage in a tar file (IMPORTANT: tarred with --format=ustar) into CSC section in Odin.
Plug in usb cable to computer and phone.
Get into download mode.
Wait for "COM" port to light up on Odin.
Click start.
CSC section? you sure?
What's a kernal?

Just the new leaks because clockwork doesn't flash modems.
If you look you can find a post with a flashable modem upgrade to dk28 but it breaks gps.

you don't have to odin, you can use CWM Recovery to flash a .zip.

Bell Samsung Gt-I9000 Disabled touch keys help

I used the dialer 2663 command and it disabled the options and back keys on my samsung device anything I can do?
This happens when you do the touchscreen firmware update while not on a stock ROM.
You have to flash a stock ROM for your device, then run the 2663 command again, then flash your custom ROM back....

Great info, Thanks wish I knew this before, Its my mistake for rushing things, Do you know where I can get a stock rom but in the .zip format? I would like to load it with rom loader instead of that program Odin
Is there anywhere I can get one of those? ( I have the odin stock rom)
I don't think that there are any stock roms in update.zip format. There's the stock rom list thread and you'll have to flash with Odin ...

[Q] Need some clarification on OTA update.

Ok I am full rooted thanks to un-revoked.
I have downloaded the new update on my phone but havent installed yet, Battery was to low so gave me a notification in status bar to update later.
I understand i have to flash to the Amon ra recovery.
all i want is the stock rom, with the ability to use wireless tether and adfree, so obviously i need superuser permission.
Will i have to flash to a stock rooted rom?? or will i just be able to install these and be good to go?? is there even a stock rooted rom out yet??
Thanks for any and help. love the site dont post much cause normally i can figure things out, but wanna double check on this one.
Here you go.

Make back up and perform full wipes.
You must install the rooted Rom for precautionary reasons.
so should i even update my phone then?? or should i just flash right to one of these?? seems like it would be easier just flashing right too those since i currently have clockwork installed.

Simple answer is NO YOU SHOULD NOT DO THE OTA... The rom is out there already (rooted versions)

No difference really. Just flash the odexed version and that is all. No kernel needed.
I'm not familiar with cwmod so I can't guide you through the flash but also you need to have an updated version.

Also, after flashing a custom ROM and getting stuck in the bootlogo, sometimes you need to flash the loki-fix (search for it) to fix this. Then the ROM works.
If ever in an inescapable bootloop and there's no custom recovery, then you'll need to download your stock firmware and stock kernel and use Odin to flash the firmware first (in download mode), then the kernel second (also in download mode, after a reboot), and then once you're up and running you can use Motochopper to root the phone and then another tool to flash recovery (e.g. Canadiani337m_3way_tool).
Happened again

Hey again! After I reflashed the Kernel Fix for my model. It seemed to be good, however it started doing it again! and it happens with every rom. Im sure I have the right kernel fix...
I have a similar issue, with any custom rom I can't load into the phone the first time, set up my phone etc. But if I reboot I'm stuck at the samsung logo. I've tried this most recently with cyangenmod 10.2, ikop, and kangabean and had the same issue. This is my first android phone and my first time trying this so I wasn't sure if I was doing everything correctly. When I followed the instructions for CM, it didn't say that I needed to reflash the kernal. Is there a specific kernal or can I use the stock? Also should I flash the kernal after I've installed rom and gapps?
I suppose if that doesn't work that I'll try the loki-fix.
