VideoCall from Tab to PC - Galaxy Tab General

I've seen a few threads on this but no solid answers so far....
Yahoo IM has a video call plug-in but it only utilizes the back side camera and is pretty spotty @ best and Skype doesn't seem to work at all...
Does anyone have a suggestion for an app that will do this?

There isn't a good way to do this right now. Hopefully Skype will add video chat like they did with the iPhone. But I wouldn't hold my breath that it will come anytime soon.

oovoo works. last version I tested had the tab users view of himself sideways but it did work.
note it also required latest version of oovoo on the pc

Yes oovoo is by far the best one out there to date but like you said the front facing camera orientation is 90 deg. off and unusable....

I have used Yahoo IM and i was able to use the front facing camera. Here is the only problem i have found. It will not work between a PC and the tab. I was able to use it to talk from the tab to an iphone w/ no problems.

You can use yahoo to video chat between the tab and any mobile device and between the tab and a windows pc.

He's right...you can't. You can see the PC person on the Tab but they can't see you. The video never initializes and the PC app reports that there is no video. Both ends can hear each other, though.

cant belive no one has said Fring, i use it to video call my gf and she has a iphone, quality is great.

That would be because Fring does not have a PC client as per the OPs request!

No he isn't right as I have done this and was able to see myself in both screens. Not sure why you don't believe me if I have to make a video to prove it I will. YM w/ video will work w/ the tab.

Oovoo works great...

tried oovoo for the first time tonight, it worked great except for one glaring issue.
The app defaults to the landscape orientation, this causes the image captured from the camera to be sideways.
If i rotate the tab to portrait, the image I send is correct, but the image i'm receiving is sideways.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yep, oovoo works but is rotated 90 degrees off. I'm sure it's something on their list of things to fix.

Regarding Yahoo messenger, it's not true that it does video with the tab... until now it still does not work. I've tried with some experimental beta versions and could make it partially work but far from being usable.

I have no problem. Working in portrait mode and everything is fine. Oovoo still the onliest app doing video chat tab pc. A shame that other apps are not further developed to suport this.

Nimbuzz seems to work quite well for outgoing calls. Haven't tried incoming.
Tango works for incoming and outgoing but requires the Tango apps to be installed on the device being called. It's available for the Android, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Both are free, in the Android Market and work over 3G / WiFi.
delete this post pls. didnt read the topic well
Asia (Taiwan) purchased version has full phone features. Don't know if I need to use my N1 on a daily basis now. Tab does (ALMOST) everything.

Video chatting on galaxy tab

Before I buy galaxy tab, can you use Yahoo messenger or skype to do video chatting?
I am always spending my time talking to my family on weekend talking using video conference using yahoo messenger and skype on my laptop
I normally ignore this but for the sake of this forum, do u know how to search?
If u dunno, u should take at least 5 min to view few paged as this question was repeated few days ago

Here I will answer it. You can video chat w/ yahoo from the tab to any other mobile device and to a windows pc. It will not work w/ a Mac yet.
Thanks for the replied, now I'l buy this tab next weekend. BTW is the cam quality good on video chatting?
I am still looking for an app that will do a video chat between my Tab and a PC.
I've tried Yahoo, Skype, oovoo and 2 others that I can't remember off the top of my head... NONE of them work.

Not for sure why yahoo didn't work cause I used a Mac w/ a windows vm installed and the video chat worked just fine between the tab and the computer. Did you install the video plugin for yahoo.

To legally use skype you have to have verizon network (can someone fact-check that?) or the app won't install.
The front camera of the tab is 1.3 mega pixels. It is adequate for the task. There is some microphone button issue - you use it like a walkie talkie, or art last you have to remember to push it sometimes. Can you please post back here your results?
I wouldn't see why skype would just limit themselves to vzw network. I will try and install skype tomorrow on my sprint tab.

I was mistaken - I downloaded skype from the market, and installed, then set up an account. But it only calls over wifi, not 3g. And you have to pay. I want to learn about voip.
That is because skype has not released a version w/ video chat for android.

Those of us with non-stock roms don't have Qik.
Tango in the market works great. My friend installed it on his ipod touch and we were able to have a video conference without issue. I was on 3G he was on wifi.

FYI - Skype calls work fine over 3G on a Euro Tab on Euro networks. If it is not working over 3G for you it is probably being blocked by your carrier.
O/T though as Skype doesn't support video calling on Android as yet.

..going back to the title of the thread, where the heck is video chatting?I installed the latest YM and the imVideo plugins but the video chat option is nowhere to be found. Apparently you can make a Video call (i tried it, it used the rear facing camera, was able to "connect" (i got this call timer thing go up) but then neither of us could hear anything over the line. This was thru 3G by the way, calling a PC.
Where indeed is video chat?
Video calling between tab and pc is working via oovoo. Install the latest oovoo for your pc and the oovoo app from the market. The screen orientation has been fixed.

I use oovoo and it has worked the best. Ive tried as many apps I could find. Oovoo works from app to app, app to pc, android to iphone, all for free unless you want to do conference calls; then you need to pay. 1 to 1 is free.

Nope! Oovoo doesn't work correctly. The orientation of the forward facing cam is 90 degrees out and there's no config to reorient it.
Short answer is Yahoo Messenger works, like crap. Oovoo works as well, with issues.. All of the other video chat (handset->pc and handset->handset) programs I've used suck, wifi, 4g no matter. I've tried on my HTC EVO, MyTouch4g and Galaxy Tab with most of the free ones available. Qik's quality is not very good at all but it tends to work between tablet and phone.
The galaxy tab's front facing camera is nice and clear though for it's purposes. You will probably find yourself in better luck using your headset as well.
Also, i'm not really sure if it was installed with cm7 or not but the t-mobile version of Qik is installed on the mytouch4g, seems to work as well as it did with the stock rom.

Did you go into the settings in skype and enable video calling? I am on 2.3.3 overcome kratos and that's all I had to do. Last time I used it only the back camera would work for video chat, there wasn't even an option to use the front camera. But the rear camera was working for me.

Is it possible to use nexus 7 as a webcam online ? Websites don't seem to see the camera or mic ? Is there a hack or app that will fix this ?

I want to use tablet as a webcam not stream video , that app dose nothing like that . Thanks tho
Not sure what you really want
You asked for an app that will allow the use of the Nexus 7 as a webcam on the Internet. If you are not streaming video, how are you going to use it?
With the app mentioned, it makes the output of the front facing camera available for access on your LAN or via the Internet assuming you setup your router properly. And webcam reading software works fine with it.
The camera is poor for that type of use for two reasons. 1) it is facing forward not out the back, and 2) it is not a very high resolution camera. Unless you were placing this somewhere in a fixed position, it is very hard to control as it ends up with an upside down image and is hard to point.
You can see it using webcam capture programs like tinyCam monitor from another device. It doesn't provide audio output.
If that is not what you are asking for, you need to provide a better description.
Screen capture of the output of the app mentioned above from a windows box using Active Webcam attached.

You need a chat app on your device then... not a webcam app.
I don't use MSN anything so I am not familiar with it or what that service provides, but something like

might be a start.

Trying to get Chat Roulette going, eh? Just kidding. I don't think websites will work and you probably need an app.

I've visited a website that uses HTML5 instead Flash or Silverlight for their video on my GNote, and it worked with the built-in cameras. I don't recall the name of the website, but it was a chatroulette-like tech demo for HTML5. Once people start switching away from Flash we'll start seeing this more. It's pretty rare at the moment.

Theres another app called droidcam wireless webcam. You download a desktop program to go along with the app. It works through wifi or usb, I used it through usb about a year and a half ago. From there, i ran it through manycam, which is a virtual webcam program, by selecting it as the video feed. At that point, it should work with any program and internet website...such as chatroullet . You should just select manycam as your default camera and it should work. I used it with skype though, so i cant verify if it works or not..but in theory it should.
Again, i keep saying should, because it might not work right away. It definitely took a bit of play with the settings (and lots of unplugging and replugging) before i got it to be functional. I'll be able to test it tomorrow night if you didnt get it up and runing, as i am currently on vacation.
cheers

EDIT: sorry, i misread this post. I cant help you with that one, but if you wanted to use it as an external computer webcam...see above .
Using IP Webcam, this is easy to do...
Download the latest Manycam program. In sources, select your ip webcam,( http://192.168.1.129:8080/videofeed )(example)
In your chat program select Manycam as the source.
That's going through windows, as far as using the nexus 7 by
Itself, its not possible.

I use Google Voice and Groove IP (paid) for my calls. Works like a champ too. :good:
With the paid version of Groove IP on my tablet, I can connect via wireless tether to my phone and use my 3g to make calls from my tablet. Of course I can connect via wifi to make calls too. :good:
Sorry I guess I didnt explain myself properly enough. I don't want to do an audio chat, THAT is the option they give you in gmail. I want to be able to speak instead of typing like I can do on my phone. If i can speak into the mic. for google apps and what not I dont see why i cant do the same thing in gmail but i dont see the option. And i dont see an option for the Mic. on the keyboards as well. Hope I did a better job of explaining myself. :cyclops:
