SMS notification not working properly - Windows Mobile

I am unsure at which point this started happening, but I have gone back and tried various notification enhancements to no avail, and am not sure what might be causing this.
When I get a text message, I get the notification icon on the top bar, and I get a sound as Phone Alarm picks up the notification.
However, no little number appears on the manila slider bar to show I have a text message, and S2u2 remains blissfully unaware as well. If I go to the Manila text message tab, the new message is there though.
If I get an MMS, it all works properly however.
I have removed the version of CHT I am using - no difference, I have tried going back to an old Notificatiopn enhancement (the 2011 from the original rhodium, dump).
Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted - I shall continue to work through this if I can.

Any thoughts at all? - this is my last significant issue that I am having with my ROM. The rest is really just tidying up.

I think it's a CHome issue; if you removed CHome and Bronze, then you lose the notifications. I used to have them, too, and then somewhere along the line I got tired of CHome and removed it (I just use Today). I didn't notice for months that the notifications sliders were gone on the lockscreen. I did try putting the bronze.dll in \windows once (along with the reg keys), but that didn't bring back the sliders. You may need all of the CHome packages, or at least a few dependencies from them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am using 28244 but have not removed any of the CHOME or Bronze packages. I do have the option ticked in OsKitchen to remove any unneeded/incompatible localised sys packages though - maybe that is doing it.
I shall try recooking without that option selected.

Good to know; I'm using 28244 as well. Maybe they just aren't in there. They were totally useless, but sort of cool at the same time. I do get the old style notifications, and clicking on them in the lockscreen works.

I am moving away from the idea that it is a SYS related issue. I had this before on 216xx as well, and although not 100% conclusive yet, am tracking it down. I have been able to get the counter back, just need to eliminate package by package suspects till I find the guilty party.

Right - I think this might be something that cannot be fixed, as excluding three packages from my Build has removed the issue. Therefore one of these is the culprit.
1. HTC Messaging client
2. Message enhancement
3. Disable flip on manila package.
Only time for one more flash so may not reach a definite conclusion tonight.

It is manila related. Cook without any manila mods, and see if it does it then. If it still does, then check EXT pkgs.

Its due to the HTC messaging package I am using. (Pyrorobs latest), but I think several of the latest ones do this.

Have you tried Kimi's Messaging Mod? I've been using it for over a year with no problems at all ever. It's great. Check it out as an alternative, if you haven't yet...

I've never used manila w/ 6.5, or any htc packages newer than 2 years old, and I used to get the notifications. It's a sys issue.

Cooking my usual rom, removing only the HTC messaging client resolves my issue.
Incidentally I did use to use the WM SMS client but went back as the later HTC messaging clients were all in one for MMS as well and seemed top have no problems - in addition it enables the quick list ten line selection for the text reply on my dialer.
Might have to go back to the WM one unless I can sort the notification thing though.
Cheers

Hmmmm.
Definitely removing the HTC messaging ext reintroduced the message counters. Installing it by cab afterwards did not remove them however.
Also it changed the new text notifications.
Oh well, I now have my notifications back!

Almost all of CDMA users do not have HTC Messaging cooked in. But our notification still works.
What version of manila are you using?

Thats what I am saying. Cooking in HTC Messaging Client for me seems to break the message counter on the Manila slider. might b the order it was cooked in. I am using 2018 Manila.

LOL...sorry I thought it to be the other way around!

I thought that was the case.
installing it via cab doesn't break the notifictions, but I might still try and find the underlying cause but no rush now....

New HTC Today plugin - "HTC Plus!"

Attached is a cab installer for HTC Plus!
This application adds a nice clock and messages interface to the today menu, as well as adding an application launcher with included high quality icons for the applications.
As found, this application was non-functional. HTCImgCodec.dll has been added (exists in some ROMs already) and registry settings have been changed to disable the Backlight Adjust function. For some reason when this function is enabled the device hangs during boot and a hard reset is required to fix. You have been warned. DO NOT ENABLE BACKLIGHT ADJUST.
Screenshots below. More stuff to come.
UPDATE: I've replaced the file with an updated version. This update changes the installation defaults in a manner that should help anyone who experienced a problem installing the previous version. No changes are made in the plug-in, so if you already have it working don't bother updating.
another new one to try thanks bro awe3some!!
It looks interesting!! Thanks for the new stuff and more important, for the warning!
Very cool today plugin! Too bad it doesn't have weather... So, Ill stick to the HTC Home plug.
OK
Nice and pretty, thanks my friend.
not working x500 wm6 =(
now we need it customized like all the other HTC plugins.
Customisation
This plugin is easily customisable. The layout is stored entirely as bmp images under \Windows\HTCPlus. And all the programs chosen can be modified under HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCPlus\Shortcuts.

good
Very cool today plugin!
looks nice! can i still use htc customizer to customize it?
Nice today plugin.
However, it is still lag far behind O2 Plus, which has sould profile, call forwarding, task manager and more...
very nice man
Thanks
Nice! Although I still prefer HTC Home.
Looks great, but couldnt get it to work on my Touch. The today plugin does not appear on the screen, nor in the list with available plugins. The Options tab is present though :\
great thankz
thsnkz,
jdac21
Thanks a lot
I'm going to try it
Unfortunately not working
possible fix
I also originally had the problem where the plugin was not appearing in the list of plugins or on the today screen, but the HTC Plus tab was still displayed in settings. I was able to fix this problem by copying HTCImgCodec.dll into \Windows. I added it to the cab. Perhaps this file is not being copied? Check for its existence and try manually extracting it to \Windows if it doesnt show up.
-fluxist
I installed it on my Artemis with official HTC Asia WM6 rom and for me it works until you switch off the device. Than you can never switch it on again, only by soft reset with stylus!
So I uninstalled the prog quickly...
Otherwise it would be nice to have it on Today screen, so if someone could construct a bug-free cab from the extracted files I would really welcome it!
cheers
Will download an try when I get home!
has anyone been able to customize this plugin?
1. add voicemail to indicators
2. map text message indicator to palm threaded messaging app
i love the simplicity of this plugin, hopefully someone will develop this or perhaps point me in the direction on how to customize this plugin.

Official Rom Update

Hi all
I am kind of new to this, so I hope I have put the thread in the right place. I have searched for some of the answers, but can not find them, or the threads are 100s of pages long and knowing where to look is a nightmare.
I decided to update my phone with the latest official HTC Roms from their website (2.53.405.5 (76952) WWE). Unfortunately there are a few things that I like the old way, and now I am not sure if I can go back to the original Rom that came with the phone.
- I now can not use custom sounds for my message alerts, I have put them with all the others, and made them to be the same file size, mono and all that, and they don't show up. I can use them for ring tones, but not message alerts.
- I used to have the message alert light set to constantly flash until I had read the message, so if I am away from the phone I could tell I have a message. That bit is still there, but it is grayed out so I can't have it.
- When I lock, unlock the phone, go through the menus and go back to the "Today" screen the clock will go from say 10:13, to 09:13, then will roll forward to 10:11 and then the last two minute digits will roll over to 10:12, 10:13 again? Why is this.
- Is there any way of removing the weather from the "Today" screen, it looks very nice, but the phone seems to come to a grinding halt and that added with the time thing mentioned above is also very irritating.
If anyone knows ways around these it would be much appreciated, if not is there a way of returning to the original Rom that the phone came with, I notice the HTC website said it was not possible.
Thanks in advance.

Hi spigot, thanks for the help.
I have installed the cab for the silly rolling animation, and that has sorted that out.
I have installed a program called FdcSoft TaskMgr wm2005_3.1 to alter the registry values, and have found the "AvailableOptions" one, but don't seem to be able to alter it.

Drop the sounds you want for messages directly into thw windows folder. they will be available.
Thank you codhunter, it worked .
Not sure why they would change it between roms / versions, it used to go in the tones or whatever it was called with my original one.
Also your changing the value in available options to 15 for the message LED notification worked, couldn't work spigots out above.
Thanks
Glad to be of help
i'm just learning too, SQueal. Stick with the new rom. any problems you have will soon get ironed out with the helpful guys on here!!!
SQueal: Try to use TotalCommander with it's plugin registry editor. I did it many times without any problem.
To remove weather from today tab look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656240
how can I enter the registry with totalCommander?
You must download the plugin registry editor, using Total commander's settlings.

You don't need any plugins. Registry editor is part of total commander. If you press "\" button in uppert right corner (in total commander), you'll get to root part and the first folder is called "\\Plugins", there you can find FTP, LAN and registry editor plugins.
Has anyone else noticed how much smaller the sms text message is? You have the ability to change the text size for the ones you read, and the one in with the screen alignment, but the text still seems really small.
Is there a way of doing this in the registry as well?

set time zone popup

I am stuck on a problem. When I flash a ROM that I have cooked I am getting a popup right when the ROM loads the first time asking me to select the timezone. It would not be that big of an issue but it causes havoc on occasion with the startup customization and/or UC. It can cause these to hang. A soft reset usually clears the issue but it is an annoyance. The ROM I am working on is a 21898 build with Manila 2.1 built for the Tilt2.
Anyone know what package is causing this popup and/or how to disable it?
Thanks
cj
I think its oobe.
so... whats so oobe?
In one of NRG's threads, there's a link to a thread on welcome.exe. If this is occuring because of the welcome screen, there are reg entries in welcome that you can change to keep the time zone page from appearing (as well as other stuff, like email setup). If it's an htc bug, I can't help you.
I used to have customization freeze up on me all the time near the end. Another 'customization will start in 3 seconds' window would pop up, and it was all over at that point. I first just put my .tsk at the end of the queue, so if that got messed up, it was no big deal. But I found that removing sdautorun/UC from customization fixed everything (I don't used UC, anyway). Now, I end customization with sk tools backup popping up; I restore my pim data and then sk tools soft resets. It's pretty dang sweet, lol (not that it has anything to do with your issue).

COokies Home Tab v1.8.0 screwed my HD2

Following an update from UK o2 stock ROM 1.43 to stock ROM 1.72, CHT 1.8.0 possibly caused BIG problems with my phone. If anyone can come up with another explanation I would be more than willing not to blame CHT 1.8.0.
Prior to update I'd always had CHT & CHT Editor 1.7.1 installed and never had any probs.
Following the update, and after a HR, I decided to install CHT 1.8.0 after a particularly nice looking breitling clock caught my eye which would only work with cht1.8.0 installed.
After installation I set about setting my home screen up. After an hour or so I'd got my home screen pretty much set up how I wanted it. Was I happy? Yes, Yes & Yes!! Which is why I can't explain why I went back into the editor and decided to change the lockscreen from Windows to Manila.
I came out of chteditor back to home screen and my HS was screwed. All my nicely laid out and painstakingly selected 4x4 (plus 4 extra pages) prog icons had gone as well as my very nice breitling clock, in its place was the standard flip clock, and a blank screen, that wasn't actually operating. All it showed was 3 fat zeros, which never moved. I was left with a screen that resembled a home screen after a HR, ie. nothing on it!!!!! Sresetting several times made no difference at all!
My only option was a HR, after which my first task was to install CHT & Editor 1.7.1 back on to my phone and un-install 1.8.0. Since then I've had no probs. My question: Did I do something wrong? Has this happened before to other members? I would be intrigued to find out.
Looking forward to replies.
Same here!!!
Yes I had similar problems to you, both with CHT 1.8 and later with CHT 1.8.5.
I actually reverted back to CHT 1.7.1 as it works flawlessly.
Shame though!
I really like the speed and ability to change the text colours and the lock screen wallpaper.
Anybody who knows how to do both either please post.
Rahim
I cant really explain what happened mate but i no there was some bugs in 1.8 with a white screen they have been fixed now in a new version,

Do you connect to an exchange server?
There are issues with Cookie and exchange servers enforcing encryption policies. I use the NRG ROMS and he explicitly tells you NOT to use the CHT lockscreen as it will screw the phone and to use the windows lockscreen...
SO advise would be that if your going t oupgrade to the late cookies then stick with the windows lockscreen.
Guys, can I suggest that you stop posting issues for CHT in a new thread in a different forum? Co0kieMonster will want to know about any issues, but it's not likely that he'll see them here. You should really be posting this in the CHT thread so that he's aware and can resolve any issues raised.
I know you're just discussing your own issues, but his thread really is the place to do it.

Thx for the reply.
No I don't connect to an exchange server, but now you come to mention the CHT lockscreen, that is what I did select, I thought I'd selected the manila lock but it was definitely the CHT lock. Thanks for pointing this out.
If I decide to re-install CHT 1.8.0 or the newer 1.8.5 i will bear this in mind.
Thank you, much appreciated.

Text Sent/Theme Problem

I installed the custom 3VO rom, and I'm not blaming it, its brought a lot of neat features, but for some reason I can't seem to fix a few problems:
Everytime I write a text message, I get an INFO: Message sent. I tried disabling it through the registry editor and installing a cab, doesn't work. Seems like it doesn't have an option to disable it, because I went to Text-Messages-Menu-Options and then when I go to account, there is no way to disable it there either. Its windows mobile 6.5 I believe.
There is nothing wrong with CHome, except that the clock is disabled in the upper bar for whatever reason. How do I make it display that? I hate the clock bar, or at least start on a different slide? I came from blackberry, so if you could point me in the way of a QVGA theme that is similar to the today screen that would be fantastic as well.
Also wondering if there is an ability to quit an application instantly after I exit it rather than have it running the background.
Text sent was fixed with the replacement of the HTCMessage.exe with a blank dummy file. Would still like help on other issues if you would so kindly oblige.
