I think it is time for a separate thread about the i9023 Nexus S. The majority here is probably from the US, but I keep seeing flags from European countries at this forum.
So what is this i9023 Nexus S? A new and improved Nexus S? There were many speculations on the internet, like a 4G version, just a new Nexus or an improved Nexus S. I for one always thought that it would be the Super Clear LCD version of the Nexus S. Because of the shortage of Super AMOLED's, Google announced that most other countries besides the US and the UK would get a Super Clear LCD version: a Super LCD that's supposed to have some of the advantages of Super AMOLED, like a better viewing angle. It is a lot better than most Super LCD's, as you can tell if you look at the Wave II, the only existing smartphone that has the same display.
Most people on the internet still don't know that the i9023 is just the Super Clear LCD Nexus S, and are afraid that it will be a new Nexus and that Google will let the current Nexus S users in the dust. I found an offer at Belsimpel.nl, a Dutch webshop. It says it is selling the Google Nexus S i9023 Black Silver, and in description they are talking about the Super Clear LCD. Price: 500 euro. Release date in the Netherlands: March (7 weeks). I've asked them a question about the 'Black Silver', on which they answered that the device looks exactly the same as the normal Nexus S. Anyway, Belsimpel.nl also sells the US version of the Nexus S, with English menu's, Super AMOLED and a ridiculously high price, for anyone who don't want to wait 'till March. So there is a difference.
I'm really looking forward to March, because I'm totally in love with the Super Clear LCD. It looks gorgeous on the Wave II, and I think it is definitely better than Super AMOLED. Before we start a display war: I do like the colour saturation and the deep blacks of Super AMOLED, but I just prefer the advantages of Super Clear LCD.
So here you can talk about the i9023 Nexus S, the version most other countries will get. Talk about release dates in your countries, prices, and what you like about the display!
Heard that some parts of Asia would be getting this i9023 too.
So,definitely its going to be cheaper by 50-60$ or something.
But march ...

And where exactly did you get this from? Some random webshop claiming to sell a super LCD version in March? With all due respect, I'll take that with a grain of salt. I doubt that there's a new Nexus with 4g and what-not, but at the same time I'm skeptical that any hardware has changed.
Your post implies that you have some sort of insider knowledge and that this is a sure thing, and I don't buy it.

I have to admit, I'm not a 100% procent sure about this. There are a couple of things though that I'm sure off:
1. There will be a Super Clear LCD version. Not only in Russia; a Dutch site asked Samsung and they said that the Netherlands would also get Super Clear LCD. I suppose a lot of countries will get it, because of the shortage and all.
2. This webshop 'Belsimpel.nl' is a pretty big one here in the Netherlands, it is not really just a 'random webshop'. I know that what's big here, is tiny in the US, but they are always the first when it comes to smartphones. You can even pre-order the LG Optimus 2x now, which will be released here a week after the Nexus S.
3. I've asked them (Belsimpel) to be a 100% sure, and they confirmed it.
Combine those things, and it becomes very namely that this i9023 Nexus S will be the Super Clear LCD version.

For some strange reason the Nexus line is a little bit expensive. I don't care, but I can't help but wonder: why is the LG Optimus 2x 45 euro cheaper than the Nexus S at Belsimpel.nl?
I don't really expect a price drop because of the Super Clear LCD, although Super AMOLED is more expensive to produce.
March sucks, I know. With the Nexus One it was not different. It was actually later, in June! By the time it was June, I had lost my interest: one of the main reasons I didn't buy the Nexus One. But I definitely want that Super Clear LCD, so now it is worth the wait! Hopefully they got rid of most of the bugs by that time, that would be another plus.
OK, thanks for the reference to engadget. I hope I didn't come off as an ass; I just didn't buy it without any reputable references whatsoever. I actually didn't notice your link to it in the first post. I'm curious as to whether this will hit the US. Regardless, I'm not taking my NS back or switching it out, unless Sammy came out with a brand new one with 4g, and I'd be selling mine to get a different brand phone because I'd feel cheated.

Doesn't matter, if I were you I would be sceptical too. I already thought you, and others, would not know that there was actually going to be a Super Clear LCD, so that's why I've put a couple of links in the first post.
I don't know about whether it will go to the US. The Nexus One did come with AMOLED to all countries, including the Netherlands, but after a while they started selling S-LCD versions. Now, with the Nexus S, it only comes with Super AMOLED in two countries (maybe more), and most countries will never get to see a Super AMOLED version. So maybe you are lucky this time (or unlucky, depending on your taste in displays), and the Nexus S will always have Super AMOLED as long as it is for sale in the US and the UK.
Two new release dates!
- India - Early February. Price unknown. Strange thing though: they are talking about a i9003 version with Super Clear LCD. A quick search on Google with 'gt-i9003' brings you to this, which says that it is a Nexus S, release date Feb 2011 and display 'Super AMOLED. It gets stranger though: someone at the Galaxy S forums says it is the Russian version with Super Clear LCD, and searching that brings you here. I don't get it anymore...
- Canada - March. Price unknown.
There are now two 'new' Nexus S at FCC: the GT-i9023, and the GT-i9003, which was already known in November 2010. Then it was thought to be a Galaxy S series phone.
We'll just have to wait untill February and March, to see if they are not just the same.

There has been speculation that Bell in Canada might be getting one of the Canada versions which would have the same bands as AT&T in America to my understanding so maybe in March you'll be able to go up to our northerly neighbors and get one.
As for the i9003/i9023, I think the i9023 is the real one, although the internet says different, except for that Dutch webshop. I think this because the original Nexus S is i9020, so it seems logical that a Super Clear LCD version would be i9023. Strange thing that they get a i9003 Nexus S in India. May be a type error?
The i9003 looks more like a Galaxy S series phone, since i9000 was the Galaxy S. When the i9003 first showed up at FCC, everyone thought it would be a Galaxy S series phone.
Samsung Italy said:

Canada:

Lol, no verdict, I just wanted to let you know in which countries the Nexus S will be released, and when and for how much. Mainly to keep this thread alive a little... Are there so little non-English people here?
When I get my i9023 Nexus S with SC-LCD I'll post a review here, mainly about the display.
I need an Italian! I found this on the internet. Some Italian website has tested the i9023 Nexus S with Super Clear LCD. I've translated the link to English, but unfortunately you can't translate videos.
So, can somebody who speaks Italian tell me what they are saying in the two video's? What do they think about the display?
Thanks in advance!

They don't say anything special, they uploaded the video on 17th December and they never say it is the Super Clear LCD version. Only recently they revealed that it was the Super Clear LCD version.
P.S.
I ordered my Nexus S from England because I wanted the Super AMOLED screen

Remarks:
The phone is not available
The phone is claimed to have SAMOLED screen
The phone is claimed to have italian warranty
The price is 459.99 euros
As i can read from pdadb the radio bands of the i9003 are the same as i9023 and different from the i9020 ones

I am getting a little confused. Some people say that there are not AMOLED San Francisco phones any more. Is this true??
Has anyone bought it in the past 2-3 weeks to confirm that??
Thanks in advance
I can confirm that new phones are TFT. At least mine is. I got mine on the 12th of December. Still, the display is quite nice.

Amoled Screens were only till October or November 2010
depends where you buy from, orange stock all seems to be tft now but I saw reports of people buying from argos who were still selling old oled stock.
It depends on were and when U bought your phone. I can say that some has 3.2 Mp and some 5 Mp camera also!
I have two (because I broke sim pins 4 and 6 on my original)
The original's screen is much more vibrant at the same screen brightness. Blacks are better, its just a much better display in general than the newer one.
Damn, I wish I could fix the sim connector on it...
Sent from my ZTE-BLADE using XDA App
As everyone has said, it used to be AMOLED, but after November 2010, they were TFT. There is an easy way to find out what kind of screen you have. Go to settings> about phone> build number. If it ends in 05, its an AMOLED. If it ends in 08, its a TFT. This is for grey devices only. I'm glad I got mine in November, just before the end of the AMOLEDs!
The 5MP is only for certain Markets though e.g. some parts of Europe such a Finland, Sweden and I think Portugal.
Further update: date now uncertain, may be early November, may slip back towards initial mid-November date.
FFS! 495 Gbp to euro + taxes = +/- 700€ in my country... thats almost 2x the minimum wage / salary.
Too damn expensive.
I have to agree. And we all know that there'll be an even better phone
released, less than a year later, and we'll all want that one too...
£478.99 exc VAT on 31st October at Handtech
If this phone follows the trend, there should be a big price drop in 3 - 4 months. I can wait.
This phone will be awesome. I have tablets, but I still do most of my news reading on my current 4" screen LG G2X phone. I don't know why Samsung had to market this for women. Anyways, the 1.4ghz dual core and battery capacity is probably one of the best in the whole phone industry right now.
Com'on US release...
I don't really understand why you looking for prize drops. In 4 month there is something else you want and you have to wait again Do you ever buy phones?
lol, that's why I still have an HD2 right now. In 4 months, there might be an even bigger phone than the note.

Clove Uk has revised their release date to "to be confirmed" from stock expected about November 1. Clove "hopes" to ship mid November. They are waiting for Samsung to tell them when they will have the product delivered to their warehouse. It is very possible phone will be delayed so it can ship with Ice Cream on board (rumor.)
The price of a smartphone (Galaxy SII) bought outright (unlocked, expensive than phone price on contract) which includes tax and gst here in Australia is roughly 425 GBP.
At 425 GBP, the SGNote is NOT CHEAP, but I would buy it in a heartbeat, but not a penny more. The baseline for smartphone outright price has been 400-450GBP in Australia for sometime, I think its unfair to exceed that.

I'm so torn between the Note and the Nexus.
At the moment I've preordered the Nexus but I dont know... I would realy like the bigger screen and the sd-card slot on the Note.
Might end up with both...
EDIT:
And now I've both preordered. Think I'll go for the Note. I just hope that it will get ICS fast.
EDIT2:
Leaning towards getting both now =) So my wife get a shiny new phone to (but the sgs2 she have now is not to bad either)
Gonna try them both out and then I'll take the one i like most and my wife get the reject

LOL i am in the same boat as you
The Nexus is nice but I'm majorly swayed by the screen size on the Note and the stylus input.
I think most people looking at both nexus and note, Had both pre-ordered but cancelled the nexus. Only NFC and ICS missing on the note. I dont need NFC for three to five years. (might be payment method world wide). but who knows? ICS, i still think we will see that on the note sometime next year...
Brilliant short clip showing how good the Note is for video editing and annotation. This is one awesome tablet phone.

Yes; this Nexus S was £199 and has the AMOLED.
Wow I might pick up one of these if it's amoled.
I'm wondering do you think this phone will last me for two years?
I'm kinda thinking I'll regret not getting a dual core phone later down the line.
I'm thinking maybe I should get a 2nd hand sensation, but the slcd really puts me off.
Cheers
I'm thinking of selling my Desire for £85, buying this for £200, then in the summer selling the Nexus S for £80ish i hope.
So my question, how big of a step up is this from the Desire? Worth the small hassle to get it for 6 months?
I bought one earlier on today (26/12/2011) and it is indeed a 9020T (The AMOLED one)
It came with 2.3.1 on it, but it didn't want to update OTA, so I had to install the updates from a thread somewhere around here on it.
Glad another friend of mine pointed them out to me, they're an absolute steal!
Same, picked up one today.
Very happy with it.

The 9020t is also known as the 9020 which is the SIM free SAMOLED version originally sold in the UK through CPW. The 900/1700/2100MHz UMTS bands are used by all the major networks here in the UK. The phones aren't T-Mobile branded in any way.
yeah it is the i9020 as its the only official one in UK and I'm hoping it lasts until at least the 5th next month as otherwise I will have to buy the i9023 from amazon....

Hey everyone I have been monitoring the price of the Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 daily from late November 2011 and its amazing that this phone has climbed from basically $499.99 to now over $600 on ebay and $559 and $569.
I think the increase in price which is due to its overwhelming demand is a testament to how great the product is but sadly it really prevents me from going in on the experience because I cant afford it right now.
The price trends do leave me wondering how much further the price can go though.
Any thoughts?
Meh nothing compared to ehat happened to the Leo (my fave phone i ever had). Prices in the states are different and ebay isnt a good price guide, I see this for £600 when released now you can get it from carphone whorehouse for about £400 on pre pay

Hasn't the Thailand floods last year have something to do with this? One of the largest manufacturers of semiconductors used in mobile devices is located there (I think it's Hana Electronics). And I've seen the same trend in other electronic markets. I've been trying to purchase a Canon 60D slr and stores are having a hard time getting them.
The Thailand floods could have something to do with it but im seeing declines in other similar models.
The prices for most of android devices climbed up a bit after release of latest iphone, I see that that release was mostly disappointment for everyone, there's nothing in it that can beat sgs2 or some other android tops. That's why prices gone up. Android has more potential for future.

Maybe this is specific to different countries because on say eBay in Ireland and the UK ive noticed a slight drop in the price, nothing major but you can pick up a SGSII for €370 if you search and if you get lucky on fleabay you may even get it cheaper.

This is also true, despite the release of the Galaxy Nexus it still doesn't beat this phone, no micro SD card facility was a shocking emission, the Galaxy Note whilst a serious piece of kit is just far too big for most people for a phone, the size of this phone is perfect even slightly bigger but it the Galaxy S3 was as big as the Note i wouldn't buy it but i don't think it will be.
got it right on. There is not a single android phone that runs as smoothly as the sgs2-especially out of the box. I have been due for an upgrade for a while and just dont want to use it just yet. As far as the Nexus, had it for a day and promptly gave it back. I dont care what anyone says, its laggy as hell if you're coming from the exynos sgs2.

I9100 model has very high demand which Samsung cannot meet, hence they are replacing it with slightly different I9100G model. Due to this the proce of I9100 has increased. Atleast thats the case here in India. You no longer spot I9100 here, only I9100G.

Does anyone know when the 3G version will be released? I have read in many reviews that battery life on the WiFi is not that impressive, do you think Samsung would ship the 3G version with a larger battery?
in Malaysia the Note 8 is launched with the 3G version already, on Friday.
all specs remain the same throughout
Shame it could have done with a bigger battery by all accounts. I'll still get one, (im)patiently waiting for a 3G version, any colour, any storage size in the UK.

Currently, Samsung does not seem to have any plan or intention to launch a phablet version of the device in the US. You'll likely either have to wait for them to come to their senses, or buy an international version.

I'm interested for the the international version.
Heard anything about that?
The 3G price would seem to be hovering around the $800 mark based on eBay listings for the GT-N5100, but it's availability still seems up in the air. Hopefully someone outside of the US can point you towards a reputable international seller with stock.
Wow. It will be so expensive.
Thanks for your help.
The 3G version retails around $580 in Asia. Prices will come down on eBay very soon.
I'm waiting for it in the US as well. There's a site called Negri Electronics located in Las Vegas, that has a pre order page for it, listed at $660 at the time of this post. From what I've heard, the international version should be released April 30, but I haven't found any confirmation. As far as releasing s US version, I'm sure they'll release an LTE version sooner or later for use with CDMA networks like Verizon and US Cellular, but if you plan on getting it going on T-Mobile (like me), it'll only run on their 1900mhz frequency, which allows phone calls, but mostly 2g data speeds, unless you're in an area where they've refarmed the 1900mhz frequency to run HSPA speeds. Good luck and let's hope they bring this bad boy to T-Mobile!

^Yeah, I went ahead and put in my preorder for the 16GB 3G + WiFi N5100 from Negri Electronics last week. It was the least expensive site that I could find, and I know that they are a reputable seller. And since they are in Las Vegas shipping is relatively fast to the Los Angeles area.
Up until early yesterday the site said that the "Expected Availability" date was April 23rd, but just this morning (Los Angeles time) I checked again, and now it says May 8th. Gotta wait a bit longer now and I'm chomping at the bit as it is, LOL. Still, I wish it were closer to just ~$100 (or less) of a premium for the 3G/Phone version instead of the blatant raping that it is.
And we all know that Samsung would sell EXPONENTIALLY more of these if they matched the iPad Mini pricing, and actually released the 32gb versions at the same time as the 16gb base model, and for just $30-$40 more. At least we DO have the option to add microSD cards at a reasonable cost, but really Samsung?...a $100 more for a measly 16gb additional? That's just cwazy. (Yes, I have the same issue with Apple regarding this!) And Samsung makes the RAM memory chips so it's probably something like 50¢ more in actual production cost. :/
Yes. I still ordered one, but it was not an easy (or rational) decision that I made, LOL! It's actually just a bit depressing to contemplate spending so much for their "shiny plastic products", when the competition offer much nicer physical or cosmetic designs and materials (IMO), and at less cost.
I really believe that Samsung creates amazing products, and ergonomically I prefer most of their products over Apple's in that regard. However, they did miss the mark with the speaker and capacitive button placement on the Note 8.0. And I don't know what the designers were thinking with the camera protruding so much that the tab rocks from side-to-side when placed on a table, desk, etc. :/ So much for accurate use of the S-pen (the hero feature of this device)!
IMO, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the ONLY Samsung mobile electronics device that I can think of where I feel they came even close to matching the build quality and physical design of their competition. But once again, they priced it way out of the market. :/
And I don't mind the use of plastics one bit if they are used properly like the polycarbonates used in some of the higher-end Nokia and HTC devices. I truly feel that when Samsung gets their build quality up to par that the vast majority of the public will have no problem paying Apple-level prices (or more), and they'll sell a bazillion just like Apple does. But they're demanding premium prices, even over what Apple demands, but for an inferior physical design/build quality (IMHO). Why does Samsung not "get this"?!? People expect a BMW or Mercedes when they pay the price for one, not a Citroen (no offense to any Citroen owners).
With the Galaxy S4, if Samsung had just stepped-up the build quality alone (plus the 13mp camera), and nothing more as compared to the GS3, I would have purchased it. But with the same 'ol shiny plastic, its just a "Meh" product to me.
Also, I was really hoping that they would have included the hardware FM Radio tuner on the International version of the Note 8.0, just as they did on the Int'l SGS2, SGS3, Note (N7000), and Note 2. Initially, I didn't think that I would use the FM tuner at all, but I've found that I use it quite a bit...saves quite a bit on data as opposed to streaming.
LOL, sorry that I veered so off topic, haha. /END OF RANT
I am very much looking forward to using the new Note 8.0!
Does the Note 8.0 Jelly bean android has the Profile option? Can multiple users work on one Note 8.0 with different profiles with thier own custimazations like Nexus 10?

Note 8 LTE
Any news about the LTE version? Which LTE bands? It should be already on the market.

I meant to ask whether you also got the complementary 50 GB dropbox space with the 8.0.

I suspect the a good chunk of the additional cost here is the license for the Wacom digitizer and related technology. Samsung is being extremely aggressive in their pricing and product diversity as a way to combat Apple, so I don't think they would risk letting a well loved brand like Apple undercut them without reason.

Agree, but Do you think that even more diversification would help Samsung?
I think they should think of introducing a Note 8.0 sans the digitiser. Then they can really target the iPad Mini. It would still be a great product as many online reviews (Engadget) claim so.
That would be the true spiritual successor to the 7.7
