[Q] HD2 WP7 not detected, anyone with the USB driver? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi, I've bought my HD2 (original rom is vodafone UK but it has been unlocked).
And I've successfully flashed wp7 rom on my HD2. However, when I tried to connect it to my laptop, it gives me the message that the driver hasn't been successfully installed.
I've went to the device manager, and there is indeed an "unknown device" icon with the exclamation mark. I've tried updating the driver/scan for hardware change but I received the message that the driver cannot be found.
Of course I've installed zune and the latest wp7 SDK before I connect my WP7 HD2. But that didn't help.
I've reinstalled winmo 6.5, and have tried installing android (both SD and NAND) and my laptop has no problem detecting my phone via usb connection.
I'm at lost. I've looked around the forum but the solutions available aren't doing me any good.
Will someone be kind enough to post the usb driver for WP7 HD2 so that I could manually install it onto my laptop. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.
p.s. As a sidenote, my SD card isnt working on WP7 and after I flashed the wp7 i was not greeted with the usual setting up your wp7 device like many others. I;m not entirely sure if this is relevant to my issue or not though.

fixed it
i've managed to get it to work.
Apparently, the incompatible sdcard does play a role.
Make sure you remove your sd card upon installation (or hard reset it without the sd card) then you'll be greeted by the wp7 setting up screen.
then after you've finished setting up your wp7 hd2, just connect it to your usb port (again, make sure that there is no sd card inside of your phone) and your laptop should detect your phone.

Another way to fix
I had exactly the same problem
i went into device manager saw my driver hadnt been installed properly
i right clicked and tried to reinstall and it worked
just keep trying until its recognized i suppose

Usually the sd card that comes with the HTC HD2 will work. The only time someone might have to do this is if they are not using the one coming with the phone.

When you tried this did it take longer than usual to connect to your computer?
Mine failed install the first time, and then when I tried to reinstall it was installing and it just took forever!
Note: My phone connected to when it was WP6.5 and when I flashed it...

i have same problem, but i tried 1.take out sd card, 2.hard reset wp7, my windows7 pc still not detect hd2 wp7, does any one know if i can install any driver to driver it up? thanks.

i have the same issue anyone have a fix pls?

SD card not found ..

Hi
I just got my HD2 that my uncle got for me. I have been playing with the phone for about an hour and decided to watch the Transformers movie. To my surprise when I launch the icon, I get the message "media file not found". I checked to see if there was a microSD installed, and found that there was one.
Next I went to >settings > SD card & phone storage to see what was listed, and under the SD Card section is says "No SD card"!
Can someone please explain why this is so?
Also, I did try another sd card from another phone I have, and got the same "no sd card" listed.
I pray to god that this is not a fault with the phone, since it was picked up at a store today.
Thank you

What have you installed on your phone?
nothing, i was just setting up the phone.
i would take the cover off and press the red button its called a soft reset it wont erase anything its almost like restarting your computer if it still doesnt show up than i'd consider a hardreset which will erase data or reflashing a rom.
Are you In Euro or US?
Are You using a ROM?
I saw a yellowish like bottom next to the sd card slot and thought it might be a reset, and and pinned pressed it. Dont see any red button. The reset restarted the phone, but no luck.
I am in the US.
Not sure what you mean by "using a ROM".
Haven't done any sort of custom updates nor anything of that nature.
well its hard to tell the exact problem with your phone but i would suggest using Touch X Rom (there are others too i have had best experience with this one) it makes your phone run very nicely check out the thread on my signature and if your interested there is a guide in my signature as well for flashing your phone.
Is that going to void the warranty? are you sure this might fix the phone not recognizing an SD card.
dont quote me but i think if you flash back to the original rom you will be okay but its something you should research and look into i would think that it would fix it unless there is something physically wrong with your phone or sd card. Do you have any spare ones lying around you can try?
By the way the loss of sd card happend to me once when i installed TomTom that why i asked what you installed.
Spare of what? a phone or another sd card? I did try another sd card, but the phone didn't read it. FLashing the ROM seems complicated, I checked your guide and it looks like a whole bunch of things I got to do.
hmm well you can always try a hard reset, do you have all of your contacts synced or backed up?
is your phone connected to your computer now? in other threads people report they lose there sd card when its plugged into the computer
I just notice that my mac is reading and showing the SD card from the phone. I am able to see the files that are on the card and able to play the transformers movie on my iMac.
strange isn't!

Yes! you are correct, I disconnected the phone from the computer, and the sd card now shows on the phone.
Guess, problem solved.
About the flashing, you think I will be better performance from the phone?
thanks again for all your help.
good to hear im glad it worked, yeah i was totally impressed and glad i flashed to Touch X Rom Read the thread and you'll see that many agree! I'm not an expert by any means but i would do a search and see if you even can with a mac you might need to use a diff computer or use a diff guide
Cool, I will look into it ... cheers
Hey Jimmy,
Would any of those custom roms allow me to unlock the phone?

not quite sure try using the search thread tool and see if anyone else was able to accomplish this
This is from the phone. Does everything look ok to begin the ROM updates. You said that the HSPL2 is the first thing to flash. what's the next step after?
Info:
Software info from HTC HD2
- OS version : 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
- Manila version: 2.5.20121412.1
- ROM version: 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE
- ROM date: 02/22/10
- Radio version: 2.08.50.08_2
_ Protocol version: 15.34.50.07U
i assume ur using a pc to do this
Download hspl2 ->install
Download task 29-> flash (this erases all data)
Download ROM make sure its T-Mobile US Compatible the one on my signature is ->install
To install make sure your computer is properly configured to active sync on a pc then run setup on pc and it will prompt the flash on your phone.
Once hspl2 is flashed power the phone off hold the volume down and end key and if you get the tricolor screen you did it correct.
I runned the hspl2 setup from my laptop running windows xp pro and the program gave this error:
"CRITICAL ERROR
Flow: 00000001
Error code: 00000002
Description: USB connect failed!"
Any ideas here?

New Tmo HD2 Micro SDHC problem

Ok, after having an Xperia X1 I gave in finally to the HD2. Man is it fast. I've already HSPL, Task 29, and flashed it with Energy ROM. My problem is everything works as it should including the storage card, but after I start playing around with it and it resets it stops recognizing the storage card. If I perform a hard reset, it recognizes it. If I go to boot loader it recognizes it. But after a couple soft resets stops recognizing it. What problems should I look in to in trying to resolve this?
Thanks.

Try removing it, booting the HD2, then switching it off and pop the card back in, does it still not see it?
Is the card the one that came with your phone?

And no, it's not the stock card. It's a Sandisk 16 GB. I heard the stock cards weren't any good. But even with playing with both cards it still doesn't recognize it. This is very frustrating.
Could there be a possiblility of it being a ROM problem? I'll be honest and admit that I didn't even test it when it was stock. I just charged it and did the procedures to flash it and revert to the ROM that I'm use to on my Xperia. Or could it be a faulty phone?
It might be a faulty phone, but you should try different ROMs, see where that brings you.
EDIT: Lots of ppl have trouble with 16GB cards, but if you say that you have the same issues with the stock one, then...
My Xperia recognizes both cards, but the HD2 doesn't anymore. I even reformatted the both cards to FAT32 and both were recognized. So I copied some programs over and installed them...soft reset, and now it's not recognized again. I'm getting frustrated. I found that another member has stated that his class 2 didn't work, but class 4 did. But I thought Classes don't affect whether it's recognized or not, but the read/write speed?
dude try this, I've been doing this a couple of times and it works for my T8585. You insert it into a card reader then plug it to your computer. Most often a message appears on your computer screen telling you to fix your card (I use windows 7) but just ignore it. Then copy all the files in your card to your computer, plug it out and insert it into your phone. You can try and tell me whether it works for you.

[Q] Micro SD card useless after installing Back to the Future [XBmod-Yuki]

Hello everyone, I've recently installed Back to the Future [XBmod-Yuki] with kingston 8gb class 4. Everything was fine until i pressed 'reset ypur phone'. The phone started crashing on htc logo , so I decided to go back to wm 6.5. The problem is my sd card is no longer recognisable by anything. I tried SD formatter, hard disk low level format tool, killdisk, mitool partition, but with no luck
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/09/19/how-to-unlock-revive-sd-card-after-install-windows-phone-7/
Or
Youtube type in search(video from 96edwy)......> htc hd2 how to format your sd card after wp7 use
thaks for the help, but both methods are not working, i've installed storage lock, but my sd card is no longer recognised by the phone itself. when i go to mass store, my pc is not finding anything either.
i have the exact same problem i also tried with the cab sender but had no luck if someone could please help us i actualy lost 2 8Gb sd cards
I had to get a new sd card for similar case.

all the solutions they gave in the forum didnt work for me, only this worked:
be carefull never do a reset from the about menu cuz this was the reason all my cards got locked <- im on this now for over a week, so believe me i tried everything, but its never useless to try it yourself because in my opinion you cant talk about a general state of cards or wp7 installation.
Reflash everything with your card inside your mobile, i mean start with windows 6.5 then the radio then magldr and then the native rom from yuki,
as it boots up wp7 you should get stuck on the htc screen because your sd is broken, now empty the sd bevor the phone has booted, and enter it in your sd reader, windows should now detect the card.
this only worked for one of my cards. and no its not depending on the brand because i have 2 sandisks and with the 8 gb it worked... with the 2gb it didnt...
but i still couldnt manage it to get to mango.

I had troubles to install WP also, I just tried again today, and I have it now!
I installed it from cabs, following more or less this:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/09/16/how-to-install-windows-phone-7-5-mango-7720-on-htc-hd2-video/
I downloaded 7004-7392 and 7392-7720.
I installed in 3 update steps:
1st I installed the ROM,
then 1st update 7004-7392
then I installed all cabs to get to 7661
then I installed all to 7720
Had some troubles, but by keeping trying, I got it
Now I have my red mango!
Even if it is still bugging because of my sd card... Now It freezes 1 second after being loaded.

Had that same issue, just hard reset on magldr (power on, vol up and volume up again) and problem solved.
at the stage of 7.392 to 7403 it gets stuck with me cause of the sd card it wont update and then it gets into a boot loop, its definatly the boot when i need the sd to update, the boot kills my sd and it wont recognize the updates, any trick how to get over that boot which kills the card? any way to get the updates to the card without doing that reboot on wp7
I don't have a solution to the SD unlock, BUT I can tell you that people SAY that if you put the SD in a Nokia device and format it, it will be usable again. I gave myself a serious scare as I thought I had destroyed 2 SD cards, when not even WP7 recognized them, but I found out that if you do a Task 29, install radio 2.15, MAGLDR 1.13, enable 24mb nand and clear SD MBR, then install the ROM again, the phone can read the SD once more, thus meaning it is NOT DESTROYED and salvageable. Hope this was somewhat helpful to anyone else that thought like me he had destroyed his SD!
VERY IMPORTANT: WP7 stops recognizing the cards if you take them OUT of the device, so if you want to save yourself an hour of reflashing DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES pull your SD out. Otherwise you will need to reflash if you want the phone to see the SD again.
EDIT: Read my next post for the solution! Hope this helps
How to format a WP7 secured card
Hey guys,
I have flashed WP7 from initial builds to NODO to Mango so many times that I have lost count...
With NODO I have had success in formatting the card with my Nikon D90.
Cards started to be locked in Mango. The only solution is to format the card with a Nokia C6 or any Nokia with Symbian v8 or above.
I have tried every tool and every tool is dependent on the OS for initial recognition, and OS (Window 7) simply refuses to recognize the "wp7 secured" card.
I managed to salvage my SD card using a SD-adapter and the built-in SD card reader of my netbook... (Android, CWM, and 5 USB card readers didn't work) windows recognized the card as a 200MB card at first (?..)
used SD formatter to restore the original size to 4GB

Oh rly
Because I manaed to reformat my SD WITHOUT ANY CAMERAS OR NOKIAS
All you have to do is use the DEV_UNLOCKSTORAGE.cab and that will unlock your SD which can then be read by your PC and reformatted with SD Formatter 3.0!

I think I realised your problem and I'm sorry. I had missed the part where he says the PHONE can't recognize the card either.
Same thing happened to me, but I just:
1.Ran task29
2.Installed 2.15 Radio
3.Installed magldr 1.13
4.Went into services (WITH MY SD CARD IN MY PHONE) and I picked Clear SD MBR (i don't know if that really helps, but just in case it does)
5.Enabled extra 24mb nand and I flashed the ROM
6.Then I updated to 7720
7.I installed DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab and unlocked my SD, i turned off my phone, I took my SD out and My computer could now read and Format it.
I am truly sorry if this is another "stupid" solution.

why after update by zune happend this problem?now what can i do?
What ROM are you using?
I found the Zune update process very problematic. There are certain cabs that you need to install via cab sender before you can update via Zune. Then, sometimes Zune won't allow you to update unless you do some tricky thing like jump up and down singing Merry Christmas to yourself in the mirror.
I have had the most success going straight from 7004-7720 using cabsender and then, installing the deviceprovisioning cab, then using Zune to do the cleanup update (which has its own errors).
thanks

Ok. We're using the same ROM. Getting from 7392 to anything above, via Zune, requires the deviceprovision.cab mentioned in the BUILD 7403 section of the second post on that page.
I can tell you it was a massive p.i.t.a doing the updates using Zune. Zune lays down each update one at a time. Some install w/o issue, and others require the dance I previously mentioned in order to get past the "your device is up to date" message.
If it's not too inconvenient, you might as well reflash the original ROM and do the one shot 7004-7720 cab. It, too, may not be successful on the first few tries. I had no issues with it until Friday, when I was trying to partition my SD card. Then it was giving me errors during the update before the partitioning process. Lather, rinse, repeat. It works.
So, after flashing and updating via cab to 7720, then install device provisioning.cab and use Zune to update to the Mango cleanup. It will most likely give you error 801800b4 or something like that. Unplug, reboot both computer and Device and try again. Only one reboot for computer, but reboot device each time update fails. It will go through in 1-10 attempts. HA!
SD card problem - once WP7 is installed with an SD card, it takes it and considers it internal memory. Basically, a RAID 0 setup. You cannot swap the card with any other and have WP7 function. They can only be changed out during the hard reset process. Anyway, because of this, WP7 encrypts the SD card and renders it essentially useless to any other device. To bypass this, you need the devstorage_lock.cab from here:
http://xboxmod.sylvester20007.com/cabs/sdcard/
After this is installed, it stays part of your WP7 installation until you have reflashed - it survives hard resets. If you want to use your SD card for another purpose (and not with WP7 again), then run that program in WP7 and you can use your card. In the event that you want to dual boot with Android, you'll need to run that each time you power down WP7 before booting into Android.
thank you so much for your
Interest
now if i use this card for only wp7 idont need to format again?
ex.if do task 29 and reflash the wp7 rom again dose i need to format sd again like android rom?
No, you don't need to reformat the card. Upon flashing or hard resetting, WP7 grabs the card right up.
thanks so much dr anseio

[Q] SD Card Trashed, any ideas?

Hoping someone may have a way out of this:
Running 'BTTF' ROM which I installed on a 4gb SD card in my EU HD2, all was working fine. I have an 8gb card which I know works with the ROM and I figured, somewhat foolishly it seems, that if I rebooted the phone with the blank 8gb card in the handset, it would be formatted for use in the phone automatically.
To cut a long story short, on reboot, the phone gave an error saying SD card had changed, not working or not compatibe - replace & reset etc. Tried a hard reset but stil no go. The card now seems to be unusable - windows won't recognise it, SD Formatter says 'Card Unsupported' (even though it was supported yesterday!).
What's worse, on re-inserting the original 4gb SD, the phone gives the same error, so I have effectively lost my BTTF installation. Reflashed back to stock wm6.5, phone says 'insert card' when i try to format.
Tried searching here but found no similar situations that people have resolved. Sure, I can just replace the card and re-install, but my nature is to try and figure it out, lol.
Anyone any ideas?
Cheers in anticipation...
Rich
Edit: I've tried the card in 2 different digital cameras to see if I could format it and both reported 'card error'. Does seems as though its beyond salvation...
Same problem, nokia can't format it either
Comforting to know I'm not alone erikstelt. Can anyone bring this to the attention of the Dev forum please? Unable to ask there because of post count...
Have searched n searched but to no avail...
Is is possible that your cards are now locked? I think this happened to me once as well. This is what I did.
1.) Reflash back to the stock wm6.5
2.) Reinstall Magldr 1.13
3.) Then flash the "Back To The Future" [xbmod-yuki] ROM with your card in the phone. Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
4.) Use the cab sender to install the Dev Unlock cab found here: http://xboxmod.sylvester20007.com/CABS/TWEAK.CAB/
5.) If it won't install, update to the nodo build (7392) and try again. That's what I did.
6.) Run the unlock app to unlock the card. If successful, immediately remove the card from the phone. You can now put in the other card and run it again.
7.) Now try to see if both cards are recognized on your windows machine or in SD Formatter. If so, reformat them for use again. Hope this helps.
Hi guys!
Sorry to hear that you are having problems WP is a little picky about the mem-card so best not to play around with it to much!
Anyway as an alternative I can report having had good results with ultimate boot cd Linux seems to be happy to unlock encrypted cards as long as you use the correct kernel... Give it a shot! Can be found on Google etc.
Regards!

I would recommend the above quoted option, as this happened to me, however, i used DEV_STORAGELOCK instead of DEV_UNLOCK.
Found in http://xboxmod.sylvester20007.com/CABS/TWEAK.CAB/SDCARD/
If you get errors trying to apply the DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab, as I did, using the cab updater in win7 in this situation, you might try this trick (it always works for me).
Plug in HD2
Open Zune
Let Zune detect device
Open WP7 Update Cab Sender (put DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab in folder first), BUT DO NOT UPDATE JUST YET
Unplug/disconnect your Internet connect, then re-connect (kind of like the method of forcing Zune to update WP7 to Mango)
Immediately update using (S)end or (B)ackup in WP7 Update Cab Sender (may have to press several times as win7 attempts to reconnect to the interent.
Again, this worked for me, can't guarantee that it will work for you.

Thanks guys, this was going to be my next plan of attack - will try tonight and report back...
Well, re-flashing Yuki ROM didn't work - it installed ok but upon reboot gave the same 'SD Card Error' message!
I will try the Linux boot CD next...
