Hi all.
Just wanted to let ppl know that EASEUS Partion Master will work to create
EXT 2/3 partitions.
I managed to create an EXT2 for my SanDisk 16GB which seems to have worked well.
I only mention this as I tried the G-Parted live disc but my pc didn't like it (froze once loaded) and others had said that Partition Wizard hadn't worked for them either.
Hope this helps?
Mods: Sorry if this post is in the wrong place. Pls move if need be.

Hi guys. sorry if im being ignorant but i cant seen to find a proper guide on how to partition my class 6 sd card correctly.
i have rav1.2.0g recovery image which alows me to partition the card 3 ways but it doesnt seem to be right. is the card after partitioning meant to be assigned different drive letters? or is it only meant to show as one complete partition. also, do i partition after flash or before?
sound like an idiot but id like to be sure what im doing
any help appreciated. thanks
bump!! no takers?
in rav 1.2.0g, all you would have to do is select from the two format options in the image... you can either select from fat32 + ext + swap for apps2sd, or just plain fat32 if you do not want to utilize apps2sd (some roms do not support installing without apps2sd)...
i can verify that it works just fine for both format options...
If you're using Windows, you will still only see one drive and it will probably still have the same drive letter.
2 of the 3 partitions are formatted in a format Windows does not understand (ext3 and Linux swap) so it does not present them in Windows Explorer. If you use some sort of partition editing program you will be able to verify the partitions exist and are the right size etc. If you've used amon_ra's recovery tool to partition your SD card you should be OK, it's what I used and it worked perfectly for me.
Okay after many attempts and tries I've finally decided to ask for some help.
I originally partitioned my card with gparted. Everything seems to be fine but when I put my card into the phone it says that it's a wrong format and that I need to reformat. Anyone know how I can get past this? Or is there another easier way to partition the card?
don't know what gparted means... i'm assuming you're talking about goldcard, and if so, go into your recovery image (you said you have cyan's) and it has a format option in there...
btw, theres like 2 or 3 posts in this sub forum on the first page that answer your question... search a little bit better before you risk getting banned ><
Gparted is ubuntu's partition manager.
Your partitions should look like the following (mines a 8gb sdcard)
Linux swap (32mb)
Ext3 (500mb)
Fat32 (everything else)
ahh excuse my mistake... you may want to try a 40mb swap partition, i found that to be best without as much of a slow down
Right I never make threads I usually get all my info from other peoples threads but this one has me stumped.
I have been playing around with the different roms for android and decided to try one of the DATA2EXT ones and started making partitions on my 16gb card, I made a 1gb Ext3 partition and installed RAFDroid and somehow it managed to corrupt so I ended up reformatting it and now I am 1gb down on the sd card it has just dissapeared it does not even come up in the partition manager.
If anyone has any solutions I would be very grateful thanks.
Download the Gparted Live application. Burn it onto a CD. Boot your computer using the CD you created (Google for help if you need it). Delete the partition you made. Resize the existing FAT32 partition to occupy the full space available once you have deleted the ext partition.
Right okay, yeah I thought I might have to do that was just downloading it now thanks for the help
Yeah that sorted it, thanks again
I've done the same thing and Maximillion has sorted the issue
I have a netbook with no CD drive, is there another way round this?
this might help:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php
try "mini tool partition wizard home edition" worked very well with me
MiniTool
You can also use EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition..
That should do it
I have looked for similar posts but I haven't found exactly what I was looking for or I found old posts in the general sections of the forum, so I ask here:
What is the usefulness of an ext3 partition on the SD memory for applications?
Can anyone tell me an accurate guide to follow the procedure?
No one knows how to help me?
I think you will not need it.
ext3 earlier used for app2sd, but now almost all custom roms have native app2sd = means that you don' t have to make a own partition
correct me if im wrong
Blacksony
I'm starting to think that there is no use to format the SD to ext3..
U can make a partition in your SD for example of 1 gb EXT3 only for apps, you can make it with minitool partition wizard home edition (its free)
In ext3 the apps is fully saved in the sd (.apk, dalvik cache and data) and you can liberate more space in the disk than app2sd.
if u don't understand say me jaja my english is poor and i talk like a tarzan ! xD

Finally!
Thank you very much. I will provide downloading MiniTool Partition Wizard and format the sd by myself. If I find it difficult, I will ask your help here.
you are welcome, other form of format the SD in ext is with clock work recovery but you'll lose all your data
make a backup of your all data in sd before make a partition !
Hello,
I've installed ICS now without any problems, but after installing the data2sd script and then rebooting my phone gets stuck in the boot animation. Even though it's very beautifull eyecandy it really isn't doing much for me.
I did a full wipe! Clear data/factory reset, Clear dalvick cash, etc. Also Task 29 and used HD2 toolkit to create 250MB system partiton with 5MB cache
First I formatted my SD card (8GB class 10) with MiniTool Partition Wizard 7 completely as FAT32 then I partitioned it (with CWM recovery 4.0.0.0) to 2048MB EXT3 with 256MB Swap, formatted that partition again in MiniTool to EXT3
Then I flashed the ROM (NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich Beta6) to my device without any problem. Booted ICS, rebooted into recovery and flashed Data2SD installer wich didn't give any errors either.
Booted again and now it's stuck in bootscreen, I've waited for at least 45 to 60 minutes before removing the battery and try everything again all over, but with an EXT4 partition just like Yank555 did.
I followed the instructions from this post without flashing APP2SD Killer first since that causes the market to 'hang on app install'
I know there are people how got it to work so it must be something I did wrong! Can anyone give me some good advice?
BTW FYI, I did previously use TyphooN Gingerbread 2.3.3 CM7 A2SD with 1GB EXT partition without any problems...
Hi,
For me it seems you're doing it right...
Your ext4 partition IS a primary partition ? I suppose yes, since CWM will do it that way when you use it to partition your SD card.
Just to be sure, you did reformat the ext3 partion to ext3, or the swap ? I don't know how DATA2SD will react to finding 2 "sd-ext" partitons (more than one ext2/3/4 partiton), never tried that before... If you don't intend to use any swap, you'd rather leave that one out in CWM (choose 0Mb)...
JP.
PS: If you want to use swap (hard swap on a swap partition) I can explain to you how to do that. If you want to do it using a swapfile (once DATA2SD is up & running, you can have a look here).
Tanks for your reply. I don't have much time this weekend due to Christmas shopping and everything But I determent to get this to work! And I won't stop till I do. I'm using this ROM for every day and I just need more space. I found there are more people with the same issue as me, so when I get it to work I'll post my findings in the main development threat as well. But I'll make sure to give you all the credit that is due...
Fixed it! Did had to use sort of a "work-around" but it's working and it's all good! That's most important! If anyone else is looking for the solution for this problem, this is what I used and what works for me!

Please give thanks where they are due, that is to the original poster offcourse and not me!
The fixed work-around is App2SD rite? I think it will be good if we can get Data2SD working. I think the latter is faster.
I also read some managed to get Data2Ext working in Tytung ICS Beta7 already. See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403710
