Hi,
I have been using the x 10 for about a couple of months now... one thing I don't get is why the screen goes all weird on you and randomly presses buttons if you have moisture in your hands etc. For example if I get out of a shower and start using my phone, it never presses the keys I want it to press, just randomly presses all the buttons. Sometimes I hit the backspace and it doesn't stop even after I take my finger off of it. Tries to erase the entire line. Even if I have some sort of dirt or dust on my fingers and it comes in contact with the screen, same thing happens.
So is this something that is happening with all of your phones or just mine?

I guess this is a property of capacitive touch technology. Happens on my synaptic trackpad all the time.

really? it never happened on my other phones even though i had capacitive... i do agree it happens sometimes with my trackpad as well, but not to the level the x10 does... heck if i get close the screen and blow on it the damn thing will start pressing keys... ever had that?

It was just a guess. And I've just tried blowing hard on my X10's screen, didn't work
hmm... damn i cant even exchange my phone... it doesnt have warranty
I noticed the same issue. To fix it i put on a screen protector (i took off the stock one) and updated to 026. Its been a week with no problems.

been having same problems....from call log...i ll dial the wrong number.
when i type something,..the keyboard will totally type out some different letters.
especially when hands are moist..which they mostly are...not wet..just moist.
doesnt happen on iphones at all.
thinking of changing the stock screen protector
I have experienced something similar, but not as extreme, when I have damp hands.
Removing the screen protector did cause an issue for a mate regarding over sensitivity.
Capacitive screens certainly do seem to prefer dry skin though.
Swyped from my rooted X10i using XDA.
i have the same problem but mine is with the stock screen protector on, does any 1 have a fix yet it really is driving me mad to appoint its nearly went out my bedroom window!!
It does happen on iPhones (both first and second gen) owned them both and it was pointless to even attempt to use it. The only fix is to keep the screen dry.
I have an ATT Streak, with the Dell 2.2 froyo installed and updated. With the stock 1.6, the initial 2.2 and the updated 2.2, sometimes I can't unlock the phone. The green unlock tab will not slide across the screen. Most of the time it's fine but it happens at least a few times a day when attempting to answer calls. I've found that I can get it to unlock if I move the slider enough to reveal the white dot under the speaker icon, and then press that. Pressing the dot under the speaker icon makes the unlock slider move all the way over so I'm not dead but it's still rather frustrating. Usually everything is fine. Anyone have any ideas? This is my first Android but I've had Kaisers, Raphaels and Rhodiums and have gone through a fair amount with them. Do the DJ_Steve ROMs fix the problem? Is this a known issue?
Thanks in advance
See thread 'Touch screen unresponsive after pocket time'
You can also get Menu unlock from the market...it allows you to just tap the menu softkey to unlock the phone.
Also, check out NoLock from the market...you can have it set so that when you hit your power button, your phone opens to the homepage.
I had exactly the same problem, would miss phone calls as I couldn't slide to answer either. This happened almost systematically when I left my wifi hotspot - but would happen also if wifi was turned off.
In the end, recalibrating my screen did it. Since, I haven't had a single sticky/frozen slide to unlock
calibrating did not help but returning it did
I couldn't make myself think the phone was worth the troubles so I brought it back and went back to my old Tilt 2/TP2 while I wait for the aTrix or a slider version of the 4.3" HTCs or Samsungs like the Epic. Thanks for the advice.
Try "easy answer button" off the market, it allows you to have a button to answer the phone.

Agreed, see that thread and remember to make sure the touchscreen is facing away from your body when you place it in your pocket. Something about the heat/magnetic sensitivity that get's thrown off when it's in your pocket and facing skin. Worked like a charm for me...no issues with unlocking or touchscreen responsiveness...

It's the static build up on touch surface; not avoidable totally but above suggestion would minimize it to non annoying level... antistatic pouch would also help no matter how it is carried.

I've delaminated the resistive screens on a bunch of HTCs
carring them in my pocket screen in. I thought the glass on the streak wouldn't have any of those issues. I'm leaning towards an aTrix when it comes out and I think it's also gorilla glass. You think it's the heat, or static that causes the problem?
I also had this problem, and it got solved when I uninstalled my App Killer!
I have a Q, since I cannot find "menu unlock" on the market, can I download it and install it over PC (without rooting etc.)
I'm using froyo 2.2 official 318 build
Recalibrating it did the trick for me

Gorilla glass is a chemical treatment to harden glass not really helps or solves static build up like issues.. I am guessing top layer glass is very thin on streak (lowest margins are .5 - .75mm for tempered glass and even less than .5mm for polycarbonate surfaces) hence the static build up, which is impossible to prevent, rather easily interferes with streak's touch sensor. There are safety margins for gaps between LCD and touch as well as touch glass thicknesses for proper signal capture by adc before fed into touch controller (if discrete IC is used) and there is a big chance streak design took the lowest possible of those margins and since the surface is rather large, static build up could temporarily hinder touch recognition...

Recalibrating fixes this issue and its not due to gorilla glass or due to storage of the phones in your pockets.

Just b/c it worked for you doesn't mean it's the only answer. Recalibrating did not fix the issue for me. Changing the way I carry it in my pocket *did*, but that doesn't mean it will solve *everyone's* similar issue. We're just trying to help by providing suggestions...
I use noLock and shaketoanswer from the marketplace

No lock works great. The lock screen is a pain in the assets anyway
Dell Streak, 2.2 froyo (318), custom kernel, OC to 1.2ghz, quadrant 2002, hspda signal mod,
I'm not sure if this is a common problem across all touch screen phones or just the xperia but I find that if I get any moisture on the screen it becomes absolutely useless. If my hands get a bit sweaty the unlock screen just trips out and goes nuts, does anyone else have this issue?

Hi,
I've got some weird problems with my N1. I searched around but couldn't find the solution.
I've tried CM7 stable 7.0.3 and Nighties 87 builds, and this problem happens to both.
1. When I'm running an app, such as "plants vs zombies", or typing with keyboard, when I touch a spot, it thinks I touch another spot. For example, when I touch key "D", it may give me a "space". When I try to place a plant on the left side, it puts it on the right side.
2. When I'm watching videos with MoboPlayer, the screen is locked sometimes (maybe this is a setting that I don't know, how do I turn this feature off?). When I press the "menu" button, it was supposed to unlock the screen, but it actually unlocks and locks back and forth continuely, and the phone keeps vibrating.
All the problems will be gone if I just lock the phone and unlock again. However, it will come back after a while.
Please help and thank you very much!

Yep, always been a problem with the Nexus One and often on capacitive touchscreens when plugged into a charger. You've stated the known workaround.

Really? Are you saying that these problems happen to all Nexus one and we all have to live with them?
By the way, I have these problems regardless if I'm charing or not.

I see. Thanks.
Just turn off the screen then back on, it clears this bug and only takes a second.
All nexus ones have this issue.
I traveled from Singapore to the States for about 2 weeks in May and I suddenly had this issue too. I never had it for the 16 months I owned it back here in Singapore. And when I got back after my 2 weeks trip, the problem never occurred at all again.
I'm guessing that it has to do with either the temperature or humidity levels.

I agree with you. I think it has to do with humidity specifically because it happens only when I just left from the bathroom (taking a shower) and there is a vapor, then the touch gets crazy!

Iv'e only had it a few times in about 16 months. But, it's very dry here in Vegas wih very low humidity!
I've had this issue from day one with the nexus one. For me atleast it triggers everytime I have the phone plugged in and I'm using the phone at a 90 degree angle, like sideways in bed, very strange.

+1, always happens to me!
But never happened in other conditions.
This happens on mine too, but if the problem is the humidity, so why lock the screen and unlock it solves?

Were there any bears around? It could be the bears.
southern china. occurs occasionally also. yet not so often these days. more often when charging. it seems that temperature matters alot, not sure about humidity.

For me, solves only for a short time. If conditions stay the same the touch gets crazy again.

I have similar problems as mentioned irregularly, but sometimes switching the screen off and on doesn't fix it at all. It's not very humid where I live (except when it's raining). Has anyone else considered replacing the digitizer (the touchscreen panel) of the phone, and if this would fix the problem?

thanks all
I sent my N1 back to HTC for warranty repair because of this issue. They did something and sent it back saying all good now. The issue occurs less frequently now but it is there.
I suspect there is something in the trackball area that generates EMF of certain qualities (frequency?) and it interferes with the screen circuitry due to poor shielding and close proximiy.

this is definitely a design flaw of N1, the touchscreen controller chip just SUCKS
Does anyone else have their screen respond without touching it?
I've noticed this in go sms. On the conversation list, the last one on the screen is sometimes pressed without me touching it. I will press back and it just goes back into it.
I recently noticed in web browsing too where the screen would refresh on its own. I clued in that the refresh button is on the bottom of the screen.
Seems like the bottom maybe 2 cm of the screen sometimes responds on its own.
Is there any app that I can see where the screen is being pressed?
Settings, Developer options, Show Touches
That will visually show you where any screen touches are occurring. The screen is a bit sensitive for me sometimes, but I haven't seen anything crazy yet.

Yeah it's unfortunately a little basic. Maybe something on the play store that could do the same thing but also have some customization?

Is anyone else experiencing this?
Same here. Sometimes it happens to me. I would say one of 50 touches it'll react even without me pressing finger on a scren.
I definitely know what you're referring to, and it does seem to happen only on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I'll trigger the screen if my finger is close but not touching it.

The thing that bothered me today is that i was trying to press a button in the top left corner and the bottom link kept being pressed so I have to hit back and I was trying to beat the bottom press but I couldnt lol
I dont think there was any moisture on that part of the screen either
Yep, but not on this phone yet...
I say not yet because it's happened to me on almost every one of my touch screen phones. It seems to happen to me when the air is dry and I bet it has to do with there being more static electricity around. On those days when you're shocking everything you touch, those are the days when my phones seem to act up. It happened on my G1, my vibrant, Droid1, Droidx, and two of my bionics. All of the problems went away although on my 1st bionic it was really bad and almost completely unusable. The next day it was back to normal. Maybe it's just gremlins.
answer:
it happens if/when you use a DIFFERENT charger for the phone. you should be using the charger that comes with the phone. If you use a different charger (from a G1 or from a razr or something), then the screen tends to mess up, even when off the charger.

So just had this happed today with the "show touches" on and I did not see any touches.
I am wondering if this is a manufacturer defect now

Is yours also happening towards the bottom of the screen?
For those of you with this problem, try pulling the battery out for a minute or two and also try touching something metal if you can. You know to discharge any static built up. (Worth a shot right) When I had this problem on my Sensation everyone was reporting that it was the charger they were using. I don't know if that was correct because the problem went away even though I was still using two different chargers. One charger was for the GNEX (same as GS3) and the other was the HTC charger. I really think it has to do with static electricity build up. If you think about the way these digitizers work it really makes sense. It seems to happen to me during spring time when it's dry and windy.

That is a good theory, but why would the static shock only be hitting the bottom part of the screen?
i don't know why. but i'm sure it's the charger. this happened back in the G1 days when android first came out. i did so many "experiments" with different chargers to figure out what was causing the screen to be all glitched like this. found out it was the charger. same thing happened with my vibrant, and same thing happened with my sisters sgs2.
