[Q] Confirmed Official Android 2.2 update features - Wildfire General

Hey All,
Does anyone have a list of confirmed features thats going to be added on the official 2.2 ota update. I've searched around for a bit but can't find a simple list of what's going on it and what's not.
E.g Is it getting wifi tethering (apparently so) and is it going to get apps2sd?
I'm pretty sure it's not getting full flash support and I'm betting it's not going to get Live Wallpapers either (Unless it's on a custom ROM, but i'm not interested in them atm)
Thanks a lot

It is getting a2sd, and wifi tethering, thats about it. Definitely no flash support (ever) and no LWPs.

If you are going to update to official 2.2, you can`t root. SO please, think before acting, we don`t need another person to whine about not being able to root, we have enough of them

don't say ever xD

My computer hates everything about the rooting process so I decided to wait for the update.
Additionally, I found a site earlier which claimed the update carries a performance boost and an increase in battery life. Both of which are needed tbh :L

I decided to install froyo.
There are no live wallpapers
jit is not enabled
wifi teathering is
so is apps to sd for supported apps
the camera now works in portrate mode
but still only shoots low res
there is no flash 10.1 but the flash lite as found in the eclair rom is there
IT WILL UPGRDE YOUR HBOOT AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT
and the app backup function has been hidden

Hardly. If you look around the forums a bit, people are complaining far more after the update about lags, poor battery life et al. The only solution is to format phone + SD, and, after that, it is normal, but, there is no "gain" over 2.1

For me its running at the same speed

Don't upgrade until we know. Eventually it will work. Initially, I doubt it.
I dunno

With your current ROM? I don't see why you won't be able to keep tethering. It's not like the roll-out for every un-rooted EVO is magically going to install a modification onto your phone which forces the tethering function to be disabled.
On the other hand, if you actually accept the OTA, and are lucky enough not to get bricked, you will lose root, will lose tethering, will lose your ROM, will (most likely) lose some apps, will see a drop in speed, will see a drop in battery life.
What data do you have to suggest a drop in speed our drop in battery life? Even the fastest 2.1 is less than half of a 2.2 linpack score and quadrant scores seem nearly double as well.
Unless you've already got the update and can confirm any of that...
I do agree though, you will lose wifi tether and probably root for the near term.
I, for one, will stick with good ol' DC3.2.3 until the devs get the 2.2 RUU incorporated into a new ROM.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The stock Sprint 2.2 ROM will probably disable this built-in feature since they want to charge for their branded service. Rooted ROMs usually have those restrictions removed so you can install programs like Wifi Tether.
My advice is to wait for a rooted version to come out or wait for another modified ROM based on it. Don't install the new Sprint OTA unless you want to lose root indefinitely.

HTC aria 2.2.2 update review

So I decided I'd give the new official update for the HTC aria a shot despite all the talk about not being able to root it yet. So far some pretty important things I've noticed is the fact that there is no sideloading. I saw someone on here say that it would be able to sideload - incorrect. The second big thing is the fact that it does not have the touchpad button wake. You have to use the power button which is a huge flaw for me. Someone also said that it would be capable of overclocking- as far as I know right now I don't think you can, but I can't be 100% sure yet because of the lack of sideloading and the 4.99 for setcpu. Some of the cool new features I do like is the mobile hotspot capabilities, live wallpapers, and the market update. So now I want to see what others have to say about it. Please come tell me what you've found!

Did it work?
I want to understand ..
The updates are made automatically?
If I purchased from ebay the device in 3 / 3 and it had not arrived yet, am I expected to see within 2.2 and unable to root?

Did you purchase a used phone? Was it already rooted? Did the seller install the latest update from HTC/AT&T?
The 2.2 update from at&t is not an Over-the-air (OTA) update. It's offered by at&t via the HTC web site. The update, therefore, takes work on the user's part. It's not automatic.
That said, if you purchase a phone from eBay that is factory fresh from at&t, it's possible it already has the 2.2 update - I put the odds at 50%.
For what it's worth, the only thing wrong with the stock build of this device's ROM is the at&t bloatware/crapware. Other than that, it's a solid device, and there are ways to customize the phone to your liking.

don't worry about side-loading.
Use the stock HTC sync software that came with your Aria - when prompted to update, don't do it!

If it is what it looks like, (US version/AT&T branded) then you should be able to root no problem with unrevoked

I'm not sure about enabling RTL support, but I think people have been talking about it on these forums.
At first my phone felt quick when it was processing, but initial response to screen presses felt slightly laggy. I was concerned. But after running it for a few weeks now, without a task killer, it feels like quite a quick more featured phone. Seems like there was a calibration and optimization duration there. Maybe it's in my head? Very happy with the upgrade, especially for apps to SD!
Oh, and add gingerbread keyboard from the market and the phone is twice as good!

You can do side loading by using android injector. You can find it at at harmonyhollow or softpedia. Just type in Android Injector at google. It also allows you to install multiple apps at the same time.

How do you get Apps to SD to work on this rom?
In the past I was using Darktremor's a2sd preinstalled on the Liberated Aria roms.
I am now on the Liberated version of the rom (thanks to Gene Poole - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970272), but I don't know how to do apps2sd here. I have my sdcard partitioned with ext3 (512 Mb), but it's not getting used automatically.

[Q] How can I make htc Magic faster? (Rogers)

Hi people,
So I bought my htc magic long time ago when it actually came out. And Ive seen two updates so far. One was the Sense UI and the other one was 2.1 update.
However, htc Magic is super slow in everything. example: I click on App Killer and it takes 30 seconds to load up the list lol .
I had a friend to had Xperia X10 and he managed to remove some Rogers app from his phone and do some stuff on the phone to make it be faster than what it was.
So how do i make my magic faster? Any ideas?
Info about my magic:
not rooted
android 2.1
Sense UI on it
Rogers locked
Thanks,
Kaveh-link.
Root the phone.
Change the kernel and overclock the device.
Remove unwanted apps....
Good luck
thanks for the reply how do i do all those you just said? thats the biggest problem here
I dont know how to root my magic and whichever instructions i follow its too complicated and I dont even understand half of the terms it says xD
maybe rooting would be the easiest part but how do I change the kernel? and what kernel do I use?
or how do i remove the unwanted apps?
Take a look at the first 6-8 threads... and you should be good to go :0)
Check the stickies in development. I believe that is where all that info is
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA Premium App
I agree, all instructions are kind of confusing. Alot of text and I hate reading...lol
I think the rigers HTC magic's can't be rooted. People say they can, but every time I try I always get operation denied or no premissions using the su commnad. if anybody has a step by (less text)on how to do this it would be great.. if not, I guess I will wait for a new dual core to come from rogers.
Well I found an application that roots magic with a click and unroots with a second click.... but that's not my problem.. problem is that I want to make it faster and I can't find an easy way of doing it... and by easy it mean something not confusing.. i agree they write too much and make it super confusing... i guess I'll read about it everyday till I find a way..

U can download set CPU from the market if the rom u run doesn't have CPU controls and overclock your processor. Main key is finding a fast build though

OTA or Not?

My daughter has the EVO Shift. Have there been any problems with the new OTA Gingerbread update? Pro's and con's versus stock? I don't care to root her's because she doesn't really care. I like my rooted Evo4g though.
If you could careless about root then I would definitely say to take the ota update. What you'll get is an updated sense (which is pretty nice looking), new radios for wimax, and most importantly updated to gingerbread. I tried the rooted version of the new update and I like it but it doesn't really compare to custom roms so I didn't stick to it.
So basically stock 2.2 versus ota 2.3, I would say take the ota.
Some people, me included, are having problems after the update where every time you exit from an app you go to the white HTC and then it takes 10 seconds to refresh the home screen. This is very annoying. I called Sprint and there was two fixes. One to increase the size of my internal memory by clearing some files and moving apps to my SD card. The second fix was try sent me an OTA fix which was a fancy name for a refresh. All seems to be working now.
I am using the standard ROM
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App
Yeah I was having the same problem when sense would crash and all I would be doing is texting, so I went back to aosp for now

It works good the battery life it a tad better my 3g signal is almost double.if u dont need to be rooted go ahead and update u wont regret unlike me i regret it cus i liked all the rooted apps and etc.

issues
for me i have a lot of bugs in the rom. i found a lot of apps and the OS to lock up from time to time and not work properly. i end up rebooting the rom to get it to work again.
NO ROOT ACESSS on this rom so if your like me your stuck with a crappy rom until a fix comes out.
I'm quite happy with the update other than the lack of root. No problems at all. So, if root isn't important to you, i really see no reason to not update.

New Softbank Rom: 369

Totally out of left field: dell released a new rom for softbank.
The changelog does not seem to state much.
Android 2.2.2
Build date: Jul 10, 2012
Build: 29579
Dell Stage 1.6
The rom is completely identical to 366 except for the following files:
<root>\boot.img
<root>\amss.mbn
<root>\dbl.mbn
<root>\dsp1.mbn
<root>\osbl.mbn
<root>\system\build.prop
<root>\system\app\quickoffice.apk
Out of all those, only boot.img seems to have changed more then just being resigned/trivial changes.
Dell normally holds a rom for 1 month to test before releasing, but the normal release date for a rom built in july would be mid/late august.
So for whatever reasons: they held it back for a month.
It also only includes a trivial amount of changes, so it's not much more then going though the motions of a release
I received the update SMS today and came here to check. Figured you would have some additional info on this.
Still Froyo? I guess I'm never getting a phone from Softbank again.
Blame Dell/Qisda's dell team/Softbank
The SPro's still on GB too.
The Lenovo LePad S2005 (ie the "Opus one") got ICS back in April.
I dont even know why they released 369, I cant tell if it even changed anything as far as softbank's changelog is concerned.

maybe the user or the dev is old school type .. and pretty much on comfort zone...
Official roms arnt custom roms, they cant simply release it and hope there's no serious issues. They have to have staff on hand to test for 3 weeks before releasing.
Even if they only changed like a dozen lines of code at best for it.

I currently sport the Dell official 360 rom and I was wondering if it was worth the bother of udating to this one? has anyone given it a go and does it work?
Any pointers would be appreciated! Also interested in whether it requires a complete reset or if it upgrades leaving data/apps in place? :fingers-crossed:

are we going to get an official ics as we had before from olleh an official gb ??
2.5gb is 500mb nand + 2gb innerSD.
I dont expect them to ever make official ICS.
Even 2.3.5+ isnt something I'd expect.

Well I took the plunge and generally I am pleased with the results. Wifi seems much more stable and most things work, although mms does not seem to be working at the moment. Also softbank does not come with a sms app pre-installed, instead they use their own combined messaging app which I have not tried yet. I installed an sms app from the market and it works ok, apart from mms

The MMS issue I was having was me being an idiot - I had run out of credit I have never used Wifi Hotspot. There is an app that comes rolled into this rom which seems to be for tethering but i have not used it. The WiFi in general is excellent and seem way more stable that any other ROM I've used to date (and I've used quite a few). I think it may be easier to look up a 3rd party (barnacle I think) tool to get the tethering working - but I know very little about this.

I've been using it for a while and generally all is good. It seems better on battery than the 360 rom, the WiFi seems more stable, though I do get the odd issue with it not connecting but far less than any other rom I've used. I do not use tethering and I know that is not present, but there are apps in the market to do this anyway. SuperUser.zip also happily rooted it with no issues. It does seem to be quicker than other Froyo roms too - so overall I'd say it's worth an upgrade. Be aware that the native messaging app will not work on it for some reason, but Handsent or Go SMS are just fine and dandy - unless you run out of credit (see earlier post by me)
If I had to stick to a single rom this would be the one. I am tempted to go for DSC and I've been told by the author that it can be flashed over this rom - so I may report back when 1.6 is rolled out fully and I've installed it to give a comparison.
I hope this helps!
I've looked and haven't found any links for what I'm looking for which is just the amss and dsp1 files to flash in fastboot... anybody got those uploaded anywhere? I hate to flash the entire ROM just to extract those two, but if I have to then I just have to... thanks guys for any help
