So my internal antenna for my wing somehow got TWISTED up, and now I have ZERO connection in my home (even though it was crappy to begin with...I at least had a bar or two throughout most of the home). I get a signal now only when I leave my NEIGHBORHOOD, and that's about 50-60% strength at best. When I am at work, I get about 90% signal strength.
Time to replace the antenna! I found a link to replace the screen, but you need to remove the antenna first, (www dot modd3d.com/articles/item/how-to-replace-the-screen-in-your-t-mobile-wing, if anyone is interested) however, I do need to buy a new antenna. So far, my results on eBay have turned up nothing or having to buy a busted wing and pull the antenna from that. Google HAS NOT been my friend on this.
Any other place I can buy ONE antenna? (This site, www dot modd3d.com/articles/item/how-to-replace-the-screen-in-your-t-mobile-wing , has the antenna, but enforce a minimum quantity of 5 to order and I'd RATHER NOT go that route unless necessary)
My suggestion would be to find a shell for you for phone on bidding sites (Like eBay, Ubid.. etc..) and put your phone's parts inside the shell.
Other than that, I don't think you'll find the actual antenae anywhere on the web.

Is there a way to determin were exactly the Wireless router is? Some sorta software that works a bit like a Radar? to show where the signals coming from?
I don't think only software would do the trick.
I think you have to shield your wifi in all directions but one (I don't have any idea how) and then by turning you could find the direction and so triangulate the position.
Or by finding the perimeter of the circle where you do/don't have signal, the source would be in the center , not calculating buildings/walls.
Ive picked up wifi points and it would be handy to find out who im nickin off!
im not certain about this but my mate has a wifi card and he sues a program called wififofum or summit like that, and that appears to show which direction the router is
I would say, that to find the place where the signal is coming from you will need directional antena. Best would be to do it from three different places and then mark those three direction as lines on the paper map... The point, where those three lines meet is THE PLACE you are looking for.
buzz
A pringles tube with a hole cut, put over the wifi card makes it directinal enough to get a good idea what direction the ap is in.
You look a bit of a prat walking around with it though.
Google for "Cantenna".
Use something like wififorum to get a signal strength.
Surprise me that I read nothing about the poor receiving quality of the Hermes when I one meter away from the router the signal drops down dramatically with 50% and after ten meters I read only 10% or something is there something to do about this? Maybe a bad antenna inside the Hermes or Faraday effect?
Any suggestion is welcome or am I the only one with this matter.

I'm afraid the TyTn (Hermes) does not have a strong reception on wifi. Fine up to 10 metres and if not too much in the way upto 15 or so. Ok generally in and around normal house but if it's Buckingham Palace not too hot. Just the compromise we pay for having to pack in allthe other features I'm afraid.

I believe part of the problem is the antenna placement. While I don't know exactly where the antenna is located, I do know that when the device is held in your hand it has a considerable lower receive signal strength (as much as 10dB).
Give it a try. Set the device on the table and see what you measure. Then hold the device in your hand and see the difference.

Your right. The antenna is along top edge. When in landscape your left hand tends to obscure it.

The WIFI reception on these devices is exteremly horrible. There must be a problem in the design, as it don't do more than 10 meters. We have a Andes in the house as well and it has no problems at all with wifi reception.
There must be a fix out there. I purchased this device specifically for the wifi .
have you noticed the connector for spar external place on the back of the TYTN? an is found rubberizes near the camera. I have attentively looked at the photos of the inside and I believe that this is related to the form radio and not to the wifi.
I would like so much to realize a connector wifi for external spar (you see PSP wifi connector) even replacing that connector radio with a wifi and connecting a cable on the chip wifi TNETW1250.
the welding of the cable should be made on the chip TNETW3422M.
Is there someone who has photo more detailed of those that are on the forum of xda?
Have y'all tried the Best Performance setting?
I have not used Wifi, nor will I ever (that is what 3G is for - since 3G is faster than my DSL connection...), but others have reported that changing to Best Performance helps...
I had three TyTN's and the last one had a horrible WiFi reception....10 meters at best. I had a Loox 720 (from a friend) for reference...with this PDA I could walk about 50 meters before reception became unusable. When it comes to WiFi reception this device has a major production tolerance. It makes me wonder if there is some kind of QC over there at HTC. My devices shouldn't have shipped in the first place.
b.t.w. I used all available settings and at in economy mode reception was even worse....signal meter at 30-40% only a few feet away from my wireless router (my reference Loox... 100%!!)
worst of all...instead of fixing it they just release a new device.

It's a curious thing - yes I get good reception up to 15 meters then drops off badly. BUT if I'm driving around with wifi on it detects an endless stream of home networks that in many cases must greatly exceed 10/15 meters.

In my opinion I think you correct with this setting only the interval of the cheksum when connected and not the sensivity of wifi receiver.
Does anyone know if its possible to boost the strength of the antenna (either by software or hardware)
I'm located on a mine site in remote West Aust where Telstra Next G is the only coverage we have.
I've found that out of all the my work colleagues, the HD2 has the worse reception of all. Comparing it to a friends iPhone he can get a signal in many places I get none, and once I've reached an area where I do have 1 bar (out of 4), he's usually got 3 bars (out of 5).
I've done a fair bit of Googling/etc but haven't really found anything. I've updated to the latest Telstra ROM (1.72), and that was no better. Also tried a couple of other ROM's from the HTCPedia site (eg Dutty's) but they were even worse.
Are there any software tricks to boost the signal? Can I get it modified to have a better antenna installed, or even have an external antenna connection fitted? I've tried one of those inductive antenna's that clips to the back but that didn't help.
Cheers
Peewee
HD2 antenna
I have a similar problem and have fired an enquiry off to the guys at 'comnet' to see if a high gain antenna can be hooked up to a universal inductive cradle for my HD2.
I will only try it out if I can find someone who has got it working.
There are such things as local area booster relays, but, you would have to get one for the correct frequency and they are not cheap.
Try the latest release radio in the radio thread in the ROM development forum. Its the best so far.
Make sure its compatible with your ROM.
i tested USB Dongle with a laptop to all areas that I would use the mobile at high-speed, loads of places worked and then order a batch of HD2's, the signals are so poor on the HD2 that made me anoyed.
I do have vodafone's suresignal which helps, but not the point.
I have wondered if the metal plate on the back is being a problem, but not tested any combinations yet
I've tried an inductive booster (~30cm aerial), definitely makes it better, but still worse than other phones.
With removing the metal cover and using the inductive aerial its a little better again, but still not as good as other phones.
Most the phones I have had have lost reception at the back of my local Coles, including a Blue Tick SE W705... But not the HD2... Not only do I keep signal I've had several calls there while shopping...
What phones do your mates have?
Maybe its a band issue...
Maybe because the OP is in a mine site? It may hinder the reception, I dunno.
I'm on a mine site with only a Next G tower, and its been specifically positioned so you can't get reception in certain parts.
However, standing side by side with a few other phones, I'll get nothing on the HD2 (sometimes even with the inductive aerial) and mates iPhone 3GS will have a bar, as will another mates Nokia 6120.
Recently had to ruu to get my external speaker replaced and when I re-rooted and restored my rom (cm7) I can't seem to get a stable connection to a wifi router. I was standing 5 feet from router looking right at it and i was only showin 50% signal strength. I asked this question over in the cm7 thread but have yet to get an answer so I figured I would post the question here just in case anyone else has the same issues. I am wondering if there is a way to adjust minimum threshold for wifi to pick up the signal from the router. Or if there is a way to reset the wifi to get back my signal reception. I did notice last night at home that my signal would fluctuate if I blocked l.o.s. to the router with my laptop screen by about 30-40%. Don't know if that is even relevent but I am tying to provide all the information I have.

Have you dropped your router before? If so this can cause a great decrease in signal strength. If not read on.
Does your router have system settings for you to access by typing it's IP addrss in the address bar of your laptop's browser?
If so, reset all its settings to default (except for your routers password). This way we can eliminate one variable, the router.
Now let's get to work:
- Try flashing a different version of android (2.x) and/or a non-cyanogenmod rom
- Try tuning your tcp setting using adb shell and watch the wifi signal increase/decrease and take note of what new value you echo-ed increase/decreased the signal.
TCP Tuning Locations:
/proc/sys/net/
I ended getting the phone replaced. Found that the repair guys f'd up my wifi antenna. Last time I use that store. If anybody here lives in Everett, WA do not go to the repair shop located at 121 SE Everett mall way. They are shady as hell. They even broke the protective case I had on there, replaced it, and then took the broken case and put it back on the rack. Found it up there when I went back to find out about my broken wifi.

Wow....I'm really speechless about that repair shop. But I appreciate you warning everyone of that shady repair shop, that way this is the last time anyone reports problems with their phone after dealing with them.
Hello, im going straight to the point, i use my zenfone 5 (t00j) as a gps device all teh time, i ride a motorcycle all the time, unfortunally on a highway the phone flew out of the holder, got ran over a bunch of times by passing cars, but i noticed it was still alive, the volume buttons would make the bip sound when it reachs maximum volume ( screen wouldnt even light up so that was teh only indication). so i went on ebay and bought a bunch of parts. ok now the issue:
I cant get network signal, but i do have GPS and WIFI working flawlessly, what i wanna know is, does the wifi shares the same antenna? by that i mean that RF cable that connects the charging board to motherboard? is that the antenna for the network? it looks good dont show signs of damage but im at a lost, Sim2 was fisically disconected when i pick the phone up, and the SDcard was gone aswell, those were the main impact areas.
Can it be software bug or hardware? i've changed the sim card slots aswell and a factory reset
SMMI test shows only sim card slots fail and modem bus (wich i think its 3g?) wich would make sense not to work since cant get any signal, everything else pass's
Any help, any info on how that works? sim card slots send the info somewhere, where? what reads those signals?
thanks and if u know of somewhere more apropriate, i know this forum is more of a software related thing, but its active and i may get relevant info around here

respectufully, thats a whole bunch of nothing of an answer, ofc if i buy a new phone it will be solved lol, i have a new phone already, but i want to fix this one, hence my questions above, wanna try and solve it, since its only the network having issues, i might just use it as a dedicated gps/multimedia device since i fixed that much already.
the RF cable, thats the network antenna? what chip reads those signals?
