Hi guys! I recently purchased HTC Touch Pro and A-data 8 Gb micro sdhc class 6. My laptop recognizes the card and I format it to FAT 32, so I think the card functions properly. The problem is that the device does not recognize tha card. I updated the ROM with the latest official release from the HTC site , and I was happy finally to see my card. The problem is that after restart, the card is invisible again. Can anyone help me? Maybe the storage card is faulty after all?
Possibly man, i am sure you have another card in there. Test it, if all is ok with it, then exchange your 8GB if possible....
The same thing happened to me; I don't know if it's faulty though. It is recognized at first, and of course I can transfer files from my laptop.

incompatability with SDHC
There is a known partition problem that can destroy your Micro SD (or any other size SD) if you every stuck it into an older reader that does not support newer sizes (any HC, or even standard SDs over 1GB).
Old readers can show your newer SD-family cards, and APEAR to work, until you fill them up past the size the old reader supports.
FOR EXAMPLE:
my old laptop has a built-in SD reader. Back when I used the HTC Wizard, I bought a 2GB miniSD, and dumped files to it from my laptop. Little did I know, the built-in reader only supports SD card up to 1GB. It worked back and forth many times untilI crossed the 1GB line (filled teh SD past 1GB). Then files disapeared or could not be accessed randomly. Kindgston told me it was a known issue of some older devices (readrer/camera/etc): the older device messes up the partition, which you CANNOT fix yourself: reformatting the messed0up partition does nothing. Ship back to manufacturer to fix. Now I'm careful to avoid the built-in SD reader
So I would advise: fill your microSD up aver half-way, and see if you desktop/ laptop has problems accessing files sampled from all over the chip. If it does, this is probabaly your problem.
I think it's just the card/brand itself. The HTC site lists card brands and sizes that have been tested and proven compatible, and the A-Data 8GB isn't one of them (although the 4GB SDHC is compatible). Sandisk is the only 8GB card that's supposedly compatible, and I've pretty much found that out since I had no luck with an A-Data 8GB but the Sandisk works flawlessly.
When I first copied files over to the A-Data and put it in the phone it didn't recognize it at first, but after a couple times of taking it out and putting it back in I was able to read and write to it in TotalCommander, but when I went to play music files the player froze up solid and the card was no longer readable until I did the in and out thing again. Bottom line was there was no way that card was going to work right in the phone, but as soon as I started using a Sandisk I never had a problem.
same thing happen to me
i think the phone will not recognise class 6 memory card
i will try sandisk 8gb class 2 when i got a chance

my touch pro two times had the same problem. The sandisk 8gb microsd HC (class2)collapsed.I can do nothing. My computer doesnt recognize the card.I cannot format it also.Does anybody can help me .What can i do.Thanks.
Card doesn't work in my Fuze. Oh well, I'll find another use for it.
Wierd.... I have two Adata 8GB cards, one works in the Touch Pro, the other doesn't. Both of them work in my Sharp EM One.
hi ive been looking like crazy to fix this problem but this seems to be the only post close to it.
i recently got a transcend class 6 4gb micro sdhc (listed on the website as compatible) for my htc fuze. the fuze (WM6.1) has been updated to the new rom version (5.xx).
i put it in nothing happens. it work fine on a computer (via usb reader). i have a kingston 2gb micro sd that works fine (but is used for another device). I really want to get this one to work so its not a waste.
so far ive tried reformatting to FAT, 64K and FAT32, 32K (via windows vista formatting).. none of which work.
really annoying, i dont have any other device that uses this card and i specifically checked this brand and type with the htc fuze and seems like everyone having no probs with it.
any other things i can try? is it a faulty card maybe (but it works through usb reader)?
I am having problems with the 8gb class6 cards as well. I have tried the Adata and the transcend cards. Here are some interesting things I have found.
1. The energyrom series of roms seems to be the only rom that lets me see the card.
2. I can't access the card until it the rom loads.
3. I can flash roms from the card even if I cant access them from the phone.
I did see there was a utility to help load SDHC cards called SDHC_WM6. I was never able to get it to load right but it indicates there is some kind of software driver that might help these cards.

I saw this utility too.. but its for windows mobile 6 not 6.1.. when 6 came out it had no support for sdhc so that thing came out, 6.1 should have support from the start
of course that didnt stop me from trying it anyway... doesnt work
I have a 8 gb Sandisk- Works flawlessly. I have a 16gb Adata( class 6) that worked for awhile then stopped. Put the 8gb- works, 16gb doesnt. tried different ROM- Still same effect. I has to be the Adata card. I am going to try a 16 gb Sandisk when my funds are available.
Oh- the 16 works fine in the microsd/SD card reader......
SDHC Class 6 works in HTC Jade
I have a jade and both cards that refuse to work with my fuze work just fine with the htc jade. I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or an issue with some software such as the sdhc.dll.
My thought is it is probably software. Why?
First the class 4 cards work just fine. In fact I am currently using a Dane-elec 16gb class4 card.
Secondly I am able to get intermittent class 6 cards access if I use one of the NRGY roms.
I have been using a 8gb Adata card that I bought from newegg, and it has been working flaslessly since november.
I recenlty bought another 8gb Adata from meritline, and this one does not get recognized by the fuze.
I then read in the above posts that somebody used Total Commander to copy files, so I opened up Total Commander, and the card is shown there.
I closed the the program, and now the File Explorer can see the card as well.
Maybe you can try the above steps and see if it works.
edit: actually, I have to plug in and out a few times for the phone to see the card...
I also have this issue with my transcend 8GB class 6 microSD.
HTC Touch Pro (T-Mobile), upgraded to EnergyRom. After upgrade, able to work perfectly. After few hours (the phone of course went into sleeping mode), then the phone was not able to read the card, so starting application installed in it makes the phone hangs.
After a while, the application (10-15 mins) was able to start, then everything is normal again. Very confusing.
At the moment I am assuming it's due to the sleeping mode, somehow the phone (software??) was not able to 'resume' reading from the micro SD.
Note: Previously somehow it clashed with the keyboard mapper software (pro_fuze_keyboard.ZIP), then I uninstalled it, then it was fine. Then I install another version of keyboard mapper (Shlomki TouchPro Keyboard in Fuze ROM.cab), then it's fine again, so I now stick with this mapper. However above issue is still happening.
I read some thread about changing some registry (pnp** set to 8196), so I set it. However still the problem persists.
I haven't tried other suggestion to tweak other registry values. Here's the thread on Hermes device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324&page=29
I am wondering if it's really class 6 problem. Is there anybody having the same issue with 8GB class 4?
Note: my PC can read the card without any kind of problem.
I put the microSD into N95 also without any problem.
and i have the same problem to touch pro will not recognize my sdhc 4GB class 6, and i have no problems with 4GB class 4.
HI Bobby,
Were you able to get the Transcend 8gb Class 6 work on the HTC Fuze? I have the same problem. I upgraded the rom from the HTC site and I could see it. But later I plugged the card using the adapter to the laptop to copy some files and when I plug that back into the phone, it says "Not Installed". My happiness of not losing 20 buck was only for a couple of mins Any help is appriciated?
Can you give me download link for the energy rom which actually worked with the card?

I had somewhat of a similar issue, wondering if anyone else has seen this?
8 Gig no name brand MicroSD card in my TouchPro, all of a sudden I had less than 1 gig left, using Resco I couldn't see a thing taking up all that space but it was all gone.
I put the card in the transflash adapter and looked at it on my desktop Windows Explorer and saw the following folders in \Storage Card\Program Files
one directory named (*#LD*))#KDP|} with some text after it
another directory named (#*(Y%*(#(*#*(@#kKD* with some text after it.
NEITHER directory could be renamed, moved, deleted, or anything.
Formatting the card hung the format process.
Finally, I put the microSD card back in my TP and all of a sudden Resco Explorer saw these directories and so I just deleted the Storage Card\Program Files directory (no programs in it) and formatted the card and everything was fine.
Anyone else ever seen this?
My HD2 either doesn't discover the storage card, or loses it after just a few moments.
I have tried two different cards (the 2GB supplied and my 8GB microSDHC).
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Any ideas?
Or is my phone defective.... Help!
^2 options
either storage card is defective or phone is defective...
seems like you did a cross change...
try another storage card on HD2 and try your HD2 storage card on another phone.
then you know which one causes this.
Usually 95% of the cases its the storage card thats defective
My 8Gb card works in my Xperia X1 - the card is a Sandisk Micro SD HC. Whereas the card supplied is a 2Gb Sandisk Micro SD.
Not sure what HC is.
I assume the HD2 can take a 8Gb card - but unsure about the difference in the cards.

HC = High Capacity IIRC
The HD2 can take an 8gb card.
The cards don't seem to be faulty (that is assuming that you've tested the 2gb also).
Try a reset/hard boot. I have had this issue before with other phones and that sometimes fixes
indeed SD stands for Secure Digital and HC for High Capacity...
the next generation will be SDXC (with eXtended capacity)...but thats coming 2010 or 2011..
anyway seems like your phone has an issue. Because HTC devices of the last few years are all capable of SDHC memory cards and they support either 16 or 32 GB.
I would make use of my warranty. But before try a hard reset.
Thank you all for the information.
The HD2 doesn't like that 8GB SDHC Card. When in the memory section of the phone, it recognises it, displays it used/free space, then shortly afterwards states no card is installed!
A hard reset, if no luck, I'll return it... fingers crossed.
Crap!
Hard reset didn't work! Why do I always get the duff unit!
I find it strange that it detects the card for a while then loses it...
Sending it back tomorrow for exhange....
thats the only reason I'm not such a big fan of online orders...in warranty cases everything takes a little longer.
but don't be discouraged...worse things happen in life. keep your head up
At least in the UK you are covered by Distance Selling Regulations. Hope you get it sorted soon mate!
Did you try to format your SD card?
I faced a similar situation with Diamond 2 where the SD was faulty until I did a quick format Fat32 and it worked perfectly
faced this issue in my touch hd AND x1. try formatting the card - helped me twice.
Did you install SD tune up? I also had the same problem. I uninstalled SD tune up and reset and storage card was found again. also I installed s2u2 but believe it was the former app that caused the problem.
Ah-haaaaaaaaaaa!
Formating to FAT32 has fixed the problem - thank you all for you help and suggestions.
I also must say thanks to HTC tech guru's too who experimented with various memory cards too.
Now to start a new thread on Bluetooth - Car Kit...

I had the same problem with my 16 Gig card. I made a backup of the card on my pc, formatted it and inserted in my HD2 and from that moment I had no problem anymore
I did a full reset on my HD2 today, and shortly after my 16gb sandisk ceased to work. I cant even get it to register on my pc... its dead...
Anyone else have this issue?
I'm thinking about trying a kingston card next time...
i have a 16gb sandisk sd and have performed several softreset with no problem for the card.
i don't think your problem is hd2 fault.
I've used many SanDisk cards (including the 16GB) and have not had any problems.
On the other hand Kingston cards have let me down several times.
How long have you had the card?

Yes I have had this happen to me - 16Gb Sandisk - all the same problems as yourself - it's now in the bin.
I got a 16Gb Toshiba & so far so good.
i've got the same problem in my HD2. Mine is 8GB from Sandisk too. But I'd rather think it was the SD's problem, 'cause I bought it at a very low price, it seems like a fake one. lol
I had problems with Kingston, but with SanDisk 16 gb everything is fine. I did soft resets with card in phone, but when I performed hard reset always moved card from phone, and after that restored settings and programs from SPB Backup from sd card. Dont performed hard reset with sd card.
Why not try and repair the corrupt or missing boot sector?
You can find software that will try to repair such problems.
One trick I have used with normal SD Cards that can't be seen on a PC is to insert the card into a Camera and Format it in there.....
I have rectified many a problem disk this way.
Try to reformat the card in a digital camera. I have had cards failing to mount on PCs and Macs but could be formated from a camera. Sandisk in my opinion is the best but it does happen. Safer to remove card before a Hard Reset.
strange.. maybe it's only a case.I'm using adata class6 8gb MicroSDHCs and all works even better as expected!
..or you hd2 is faulty
Yeah i have had this too, Sandisk 16gb failed, would not format, Then my Kingston did it too, formatted in camera and its fine again for now.
Didnt do it in the HD2 though, it corrupted on the pc.
I think the 16gb cards are twitchy.

SD format tool
Sometimes sd cards get fritzed and your pc can't format them, but it still gives it an extension, you can repair them using a different tool to format them. This one's quite popular for that and is used by the guys in some sat nav forums..

Agreed Terry.... It's better known as a corrupt or missing boot sector.
A problem someone may come up against though using this program is that SD formatting is not possible on unrecognizable "removable drives".
So the card may not even be seen.... depending on the level of the problem that is.
Ok.
Same problem here 16gb Sandisk died.
Only thing i did 'special' is connect the hd2 as a removable storage device instead of activesync.
After that the card is dead.
I'm trying to recover the card (i don't think the data is still there)
I have installed the total commander on my sd card and all of a sudden my card stop reading.i restart the system and then got the message to format the card in order to read it. i did but still card was not reading. i inserted the card in my pc but still the card was not reading. i bring my hd2 to factory settings and then also not reading the card. then i again format the card but of no use. any help from anyone.
same here
i got the same problem recently. my 8gb sdhc stopped working. whenever i insert the card in my hd2 it says the card needs to be formatted before use. when format it says formatted successfully but the sdhc does not show anywhere as if there is no memory card in the hd2. computer also does not detect the card. it is the stock 8gb sandisk sdhc supplied by htc. only been using it for 1 week. anyone else has got this problem? do you know what may has caused this? any help will be appreciated. thanks!
Same problem here,
my (HTC supplied) 8gb SanDisk SDHC card stopped working after about 3 weeks use.. I got "do you want to format the card to make it readable.."
Tried different phone (HTC Kaiser), cardreaders on 2 different laptops, winxp/win7/debian/knoppix even canon photocam.. Several restore programs/format programs.. Even tried putting it in the refrigerator over night..
All no luck.. I gave up! (now missing some nice vids from my son..)
sync my SD card almost daily now..

now many user are getting this problem. i don't know if this problem is with micro sd supplied by htc or the phone itself damaging memory card. what is weird is that it seems only the memory card sandisk 8gb supplied by htc seems to be concerned. i just hope after buying another card it does not get damaged too.
HINT
someone told me to put the card in the digital camera and try formatting the card over there. digital cameras have their own format scheme, but i don't have digital camera........its worth trying it...........people called digi gurus told me about that...........
Another card down for htc hd2
I brought a new card 4gb sandisk micro sd. its gone showing me the same message which i was getting it with my 8 gb card "format the card in order to read it" what is the problem is this a problem with the phone or with the card. it is unbelievable that my new card is also showing the same message. what is going on.
I want to know what is the problem, problem with the phone or with the micro sd card.
this is the second card which got damaged......
exact message """" DO YOU WANT TO FORMAT THIS STORAGE CARD TO MAKE IT READABLE? THIS WILL PERMANENTLY DELETE ANY FILES ON THE CARD. PRESSED YES . THIS STORAGE CARD HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY FORMATTED. """
NOW IF WE SEE UNDER SETTINGS SD CARD AND PHONE STORAGE NO SD CARD IS SHOWING OVER THERE.
what is the reason behind it??????????????????
I HAVE JUST TAKEN OUT THE USB FROM THE CHARGER NOT FROM THE COMPUTER AS IT IS CHARGED BY THE USB CABLE.
I am still struggling with the first card warranty from the HTC and now my second card with same message is gone down.

i have a digital camera panasonic dmc-fz28. i did try to format the card with the camera. but this doesn't work. you said you got another card damaged by the phone. i think the problem is with the phone itself then. send the phone to your local dealer for repair and see what they say.

Now using an older (got it with my HTC Wizard) sandisk 8gb, working without probs for over a month now.. (backing up a lot though..)
Ok i am having the same issue with my class 10 16GB Kingston. All of a sudden after syncing the memory card failed. The phone recognised another class 2 4GB sandisk and works fine. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE PHONE. and one which has set me back £70 (Not good at all) and is something that only seem to have happened since the intorduction of the 1.66 rom for me
I had similar problem but there wasn't any message, once I go to photo album the card won't be read and all programs from card can't be run, finally took out all the videos/photos and now is fine, gotta be some software glitch.
happened to me also..i lost photos that i wasnt able to back up yet..do i need to buy a new sd card then? this is really frustrating :,(
I got the same problem with my 8Gb Sandisk SD card. after that i installed another 8gb card (from my nokia 5800) on my phone & its been a month & working fine. I think it happened to me after I installed firefox's fennec alpha on my sd card.
Maybe it has something to do with the CLASS of mSD.
When I received my HD2 I bought a 16GB SanDisk mSD from Amazon, installed it and worked fine for half a year. Just by chance it was a CLASS 2 as I looked up now beeing very concerned by this thread. Now I bought the 32GB mSD from SanDisk (also CLASS 2), copied the contents from 16GB card to 32 GB card and it works flawless.
Now let´s check: was there any one with a bricked CLASS 2 mSD ? Or only mSDs of higher class bricked ?
If so we have to aks some hardware-specialists here wether a class 4 or higher card gets bricked because of faster data throughput since these cards seem to be bricked PERMANENTLY ? There could be several physical reasons: Voltage, Ampere, Controller etc.
I got a bricked 32GB class 2 Sandisk card. It was fresh out of the box and I got an RMA from Sandisk. Awaiting for replacement.
I thought it was just a faulty card off the production line, since my stock 2GB Sandisk card still works fine. It shouldn't have been the phone, should it?
Need help

Ok, now I am pissed. My situation is almost identical as yours - including the loss of my son´s new vids and pics... - and I have the HD2 for almost 2 months now.
Suddenly the 8Gb SDHC stock card just stopped working. It came from nowhere. I found it when I tried to watch a video and the player was not showing it. Then I got into file manager and the storage card was missing... after a soft reset, the appaling msg appeared: "Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable? This will permanently delete any files on the card."
What I did recently: installed uZardWebP and MS-NetC3.5 yesterday. But the SDHC access was alright after that.
I am surprised about how many ppl have been at the same situation.
What the heck is going on? Do you guys know if HTC has ever said something about the subject?
If I cannot recover the content of this card, it will be the first and the last HTC unit I will ever get my hands on. Four years using a Sony Ericsson and a Nokia unit with a SD card and no problems whatsoever.
Occurrence could be considered usual if there weren´t so many incidents like mine.
If someone has ANY idea about recovering the card data I would be very grateful. (although I am hopeless after some reading... ...)
Regards!
HTC Leo (HD2) / ROM 1.66.707.1 (76641) WWE / Radio 2.07.51.22_2 / Manila 2.5.19211619.0 - All stock - device´s never been flashed.
I have lost 2 cards. I haven't changed the rom.
Both sandisk I blamed ebay.
Maybe I shouldn't.
Andrew u.k.: Agreed. Maybe you really shouldn't blame ebay.
So far my card recovery was unsuccessful.
At least I won't need to read a lot to learn how to burn a new ROM as long as I won't use this "Card killer" as a serious gadget after all.
most the time a hard reset fixes it...better then loosing valuable sd info over settting up phone again(just happened to me after loading lots of apps on sd didnt read any sd hard reset and its all normal)
I have some questions to pose regarding the Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 microSDXC.
I bought it about a month ago, and when i first put it into my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505, it didn't read anywhere near 64GB. Hence, i formatted the new microSD with Samsung's format option, and it showed 59.48GB. Worked perfectly from there.
However, i find the default file system of the microSD card really slow in transferring files when i connect my phone to the PC via USB, with the microSD mounted on my phone. I have a Kingston microSD reader, so i used it to connect my microSD to the PC, and tried to wipe and format it to FAT32. After doing so, the storage size became like 27GB. Is there a way to make my microSD running FAT32 system and get it to work on both my PC and phone without any problems with the size?
Anyway, i formatted the microSD again with Samsung's format option, and it went back to normal 59.48GB. However, i used my microSD reader to connect it to the PC, and it couldn't read the microSD card. It prompts me to format it. Is it because my microSD reader does not work with microSDHX cards? Or is it because my Windows PC cannot read the microSD's file system?
Hope someone has an answer, thanks.
P.S I posted this as a reply to an old thread, but realised it was in the Galaxy S3 forum, so i figured i'll post it here.
So you could use the memory card in your card reader after formatting the card as FAT32?
What OS are you running on your PC? If it's Windows XP, support for exFAT needs to be added. You can find more on this here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704

P.S I posted this as a reply to an old thread, but realised it was in the Galaxy S3 forum, so i figured i'll post it here.

use a program such as H2testw to see if your microsd card is fake or defective . You can get it from here or google it .

I found the solution. The Kingston USB reader that i used is actually not compatible with my Sandisk MicroSDXC. That's the reason it couldn't read my microSD when i connected it to the PC. I used the SD card adapter that came with the microSD on a newer laptop which has the port, and it read my card perfectly.
Anyway, i ended up putting my microSD back to my phone and formatting it using the Samsung option. Then, i used a program to format the microSD to FAT32, which i don't think is actually necessary as there wasn't any reading/writing speed difference when it came to transferring files.
Cheers.
Micro SDHC 64GB 10 Series
I wonder if someone can help me.
I purchased a Micro SDHC 64GB 10 Series memory card on Ebay - Brand new.
When I opened the packaging, the card first asked me to format the card fr use. At first, The SDHC card worked fine.
But now when I attempt to use it via laptop, The SDHC card doesn't show up on "My Computer"
It's like the card isn't reading at all..
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I've been playing with Windows since Android's grandfather was a tadpole, so in a combination of research and personal expertise I present the following advice...
DO NOT install a SD of a Class other than what is listed in our phone's Hardware Compatibility List - they being a Class 10 MicroSD, MicroSDHC and MicroSDXC - beyond that of 32GB, as you're only looking for trouble. Sometimes bigger is not necessarily better - just ask the people who knew the man that ate himself to death. NAND technologies are getting better by the day, but unfortunately devices grow increasingly incompatible with newer variants of MicroSD's simply because of the changes made within the firmware of the NAND controller. By changing Class outside of the scope of our phone's capability, problems can arise. Kind of like having a PC and trying to use a SATA-M drive on it. Unless you've got the physical hardware and device drivers installed, you can't expect it to work properly, same as throwing a SATA3 drive on a SATA2 port and expecting it to transfer data at over 3Gbps. If you find you are so desperate that you just can't do without having a 64GB card installed, go to eBay and grab yourself a Genuine Samsung 64GB 'Evo' Class 10 MicroSDXC. They are the fastest and highest capacity MicroSD our device will be friendly with (due to NAND controller compatibility) and at the moment they're going for good prices. Once you get it, Format the thing on your phone first, according to Samsung's instructions for installing the card. You'll then have a bit less than 60GB of storage space, along with Samsung backup if something does go wrong, simply because you're running a Samsung card in a Samsung phone. Trust me, its a great combination, proven by the fact my Samsung laptop runs like a dream on the Samsung 840Pro series SSD it has in it's belly...

Good advice but I guess I'm just glad my 64gb card has been serving me well. [emoji41]
