My ATT Hermes broke and I have a chance to switch to any unit on any carrier in the US. I thought of the Mogul/Sprint because there is good rev A coverage where I live. I ask this because over at the Hermes threads there is allot of different roms and allot of activity going on versus here where it seems like hardly anyone posts here. Should I remain with ATT/Hermes or is the Mogul or possibly Touch a good choice?
I am really liking mine and I came from the hermes. Right now it doesnt have support for rev a evdo, but HTC is supposed to be releasing a new rom to enable it.
The titan doesn't have as much activity because there are only two version of the phone, verizon and sprint. Also, there really isnt a rom kitchen available yet (some are on the works) so thats why there isnt alot of action in that respect.
Over at ppcgeeks.com there is quite a bit more action going on about the mogul.
We are due for a sweet OS upgrade, EVDO update and phone update. This is the most customizable phone out. You can make it into anything. With a little bit of time in you can do alot with a Mogul. I use mine as a wifi hotspot, music center, tv, messenger of all sorts, phone/laptop every day. I dare an IPhone user to try and touch my functions. Almost all online vid is viewable on my Mogul and I have no problem surfing just about any site. As long as you dont anchor it down with an HTC Home mod it runs fast. Its worth every penny. I would stay far far away from any touch phone. At least with the mogul you have the best solid input with the keyboard. Its fast after you figure it out. F__k all other phones. Go Mogul or dont bother.
I've been using DCD 1.69 Kitchen on my Mogul and couldn't be more happy. I have even been working on making my own custom ROM's, so if you are worried about there not being enough ROMs out there, don't. And ture, Sprint and HTC are soon to release a new ROM that enabled GPS and Rev A.
Is the Mogul an upgrade or a downgrade from a Hermes?
My contract is up with ATT/Cingular and I am looking at switching to Alltel because their plans are cheaper (with data/tethering). I currently have a Hermes. However, I do not understand enough about the hardware specs to know if I would be getting a better (faster) processor or slower by switching to the Mogul. Can anyone point me to a side by side comparison between the Hermes and Mogul? Also, I have not yet searched all the posts, but is this "Rev A" referred to here out already? Thanks.
Better than the rest
I have looked into the other phones, and although there are benefits to each the mogul seems to be the best, most well rounded phone out there. Though there may be fewer ROMS available compared to other phones, that may be due to the customizations available through the ROMs that are out there. DCD and some of the others are really stable and have the ability to run almost everything that is out there. Buy an 8 gig card, download the sprint ROM and DCD Rom version based on your cellphone carrier, and have fun.
You may have more RAM on the touch and some others, but functionality due to keyboard and buttons are in the favor of the Tytn/Mogul/xv6800.
I'm on Alltel and I really like my 6800. Pretty much my only gripe about it is constantly checking my available memory, its pretty much always right around 16 megs or available ram.... which gets old sometimes.
but this will probably be my last HTC device I own due to the way they are dealing with all the driver issues ive been reading about. not really much in the way of customer service IMO.
Is there another phone out there with a 2.8 screen (or larger), slide out keyboard, and running Windows Mobile?
my mogul
I love my mogul.. I do..
However, consider a Nokia n800..
It's the best phone i've had, ever. And i've been through 7 or so - maybe more phones in the last 6 months.
Hello,
I'm using my HD2 on the french network of Orange.
I previously owned a P3600 and a HD1. With both of these phones I had a strong network signal inside my house (H with 2 or 3).
My HD2 is switching all the time between HSDPA, edge and GPRS.
I'm very disappointed with its network sensitivity.
Are there other users experiencing similar troubles ?
Thanks
Sebastien
+1 to that.and i am havinng another problem.
every time my phone switches from H to 3G i cannot connect to the internet.but when it goes back to H everything is back to normal.
Yes, having the same issues. Very poor signal. Every time I pick up the phone, I lose the signal completely. I have to put it down after composing a text, wait for the signal to come back and then send it.
Hopefully a future radio update might improve it.
Yes agreed - having very similar issues. My phone is also continually switching between 3G and GPRS. It does this seemingly at random. I do not change the way I am holding the phone, nor am I moving. doesn't seem overly good to me.
I seem to have form for buying phones that have poor reception quality. My previous phone (HTC G1) was just the same.
My wife has had a Nokia N95 then recently a Nokia 5800 - these have both had a far better and more stable network reception.
Ok i'm not alone !!!
I really need a new radio ROM !!
PLUS 1 more!
I AM really disappointed to pay 615 EUR for that ****! Of course the HD2 is not trash but the radio unit (with stock radio rom) is it indeed.
see signature for details.
Yes, even the stock Radio rom of my HD1 was far better than this one !
+1 more.
Even in an areas where the signal normally was great with my Kaiser it is now totally gone.
It's nice to have such a wonderful internet machine and not be able to find a good network to use it
There is a 1.48 TEST rom floating in the rom development subforum.
This has improved the signal tremendously for me as it has a new radio.
Proceed with Caution though as it is a TEST Rom, not supported from HTC.
You will lose your warranty if your phone develops a problem and if you need to send it in for repair with this Rom.
Once that has been said, its a great Rom with a lot better signal and a lot better battery life at least for me

Sorry, I'm new to WM. Is a TEST rom an official, beta ROM or some sort of custom build?
Its a beta Rom coming from HTC. It is official but not final. It is a Test
Yes, sorry to hear that guys, my hd2's radio is a **** as well. Same symptoms.
Hope a new ROM will solve this issue.

Apparently some new ones are shipping with 1.48 so there should be a stock build up soon.
Mine's due for delivery tomorrow so with any luck it will already have 1.48
Cool this new rom seems promising.
I will try it tomorrow I think !
I wonder if the crappy 3G and H (hsdpa) signal level is a 'local' ROM issue or is it common to all HD2 (WWE). Most reviews I'd read praise the reception capabilities of HD2.
I plan o migrate from HD to HD2, but if this is the case then I intend to wait till a better (official) radio is available.
me too. My previous HD had fully 4 bars 3G all the time in my flat. Now my HD2 switches between 3 and 4 bars. It has definitely worse radio reception than HD had. But only because of this I won't reinstall everything, I think a new official radioROM (and xSPL) will be out in a couple of weeks.
Kchris, yours seems very usable
On mine, the networks switchs all the time between H and E and G
What is very strange is that some people aren't experiencing any trouble with the network sensitivity.
Maybe it's just our phones which have a hardware trouble ???
That's weird, I have the WWE 1.43 ROM and the reception is actually better than on my old P3600.
It's also almost always on HSDPA (4 bars most of the time), it only switches to 3G on rare occasions (or after a soft reset, before the data connection of course )
What is the ROM version you guys have?
Hey guys...
My wife has a MT3G (T-Mobile US), and lately it has been running horrifically slow. I've been thinking about flashing a custom ROM to her handset, but I'm not sure if the benefits will be worth it.
I have an HTC HD2 that I've been flashing for a few months now (SD, NAND, etc), so I'm not new to flashing ROMS. I am, however, new to the MyTouch 3G. I've never really messed around with it. I just started reading some of the tutorials on here today...
Anyway, I'd like to get her phone to perform better.
Can anyone recommend a good ROM to flash for performance?
She doesn't need crazy apps or features. She has typical cell phone usage habits, like calling, texting, pictures, facebook, and a few games. That's about it.
Any help is appreciated!

Well... depending on what kind of MyTouch she has would depend on what would be best for her. Seeing that you are in the United States I will assume that you have either the standard 32B devices or the newer model with the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top (also known and referred to as Fender, 1.2, LE and "the-one-with-the-3.5mm-headphone-jack"). All honesty she might as well stick with stock for stability. Most custom roms are stable so don't get me wrong but some members complain that CM 6.1.0 rom (for example) makes their phone run slow. Others like the stock rom because they swear that it's faster. Being comletely honest here most of the MyTouch roms that you'll find here will be for the 32A type devices (foriegn hardware that would be incompatible with yours). This is because all of the 32B devices (USA devices) are also compatible with the G1/Dream. So instead of managing two different threads for two different devices for the same rom we just direct MyTouch 32B users to the G1/Dream section. I know it's really complicated but in a nutshell... if your MyTouch is ordered from T-Mobile USA then you should look toward the G1/Dream section for your roms because there are more posted there than there are here.
I'd have to say out of the custom ROM's I've tried, I like CyanogenMod 5.0.8 the best. That's the one I've kept on my wife's phone since I rooted it back in June. It's very stable and get's you the nicer feature's of Android 2.1. Honestly though, staying stock is probably the way to go. If you've got the older 32B then she should've already gotten the T-Mobile update to 2.2 and if not, then a call to Customer Service should get it. If you've got the 1.2 (3.5mm jack) they're going to start rolling out the update for it beginning tomorrow and running until the 1st of February. It may just be time to do a factory reset and if that doesn't improve performance, maybe use one of the one-click root methods, flash the custom recovery, then just flash an OC kernel.
Gio's 2.2.1 worked great and looked awesome on mine. Don has it right though, just wait a couple more days and get the stock 2.2.1 for your phone and clean it up and im sure it will play nicer.
Just a friendly word of advice. Just cause you are good at working another android phone doesn't mean another will be easy. I did lots of reading before and after rooting and flashing my phone. I still do.
Hell, now that there is mention of the OTA, now everyone wants to go back stock to get it. Instead of looking, cause its already out there, they keep wanting to know how.

Just a word of advice, if you regularly tether the phone to your computer for internet access and install the tmobile ota update, tethering will be disabled and you will have to pay $15/mo extra to keep tethering. A cs rep told me this a few months ago and that conversation was actually what finally made me root my mt3g, and I'm glad I did. I was using cm6.1 and speed was decent, but the latest nightly build had a huge increase in performance and I haven't had a single issue with stability. The new 32b 2.6.35.10 kernel has also been much faster and I have been getting WAY better reception by updating to the 2.22.28.25 radio. And universal androot method worked for me on the mytouch in the same way as any other device.

Hi guys,
So i'm running with the samsung captivate and as we know the development for that phone is completely outstanding and i'd say is probably the best for the Galaxy S lines in terms of quality of roms, and the variety you can choose from.
My buddy got a nexus S and he likes android but he's not happy with his nexus S as it stands now. His problems are mostly around slow browser, he says he has reception issues with vodaphone UK whereas before he had none, and the phone often hangs and can get slow, battery life is bad.
Now i wanted to ask you guys in the development forum if its worth it for me to root/unlock his nexus S (i've read up on unlocking the bootloader etc so I think I can pull it off) and load one of these custom roms. However, I dont think any of these roms are very well developed.
Do most of you experience good performance on the Nexus S with stock google updates? Do you think my friend has a dud phone, or should I go ahead and put Bionix on his phone? I dont want to be his tech support going forward, so I fear the rom is still very beta and I dont want to be stuck always helping him, but if one flash will set him for at least a few months i dont mind helping him.
Any thoughts? thanks.
edit: my face is red.. can a mod move this to general please ?
Um wow, well i got my nexus s couple of weeks ago, and i did run it with the stock for for almost a week, and i cant say the same things as your friend. The phone is really fast, battery is ok ( it dies as all the smartphones within a day if you play a lot with it ) and no hangings what so ever.
Maybe tell him to make a hard reset, or if he installed a lot of things, then try to install less things after the hard reset.
You can make it blazingly fast if you use a custom kernel, i was using modaco r10 as rom and 1.3ghz bionix kernel, and trust me it was fast fast fast. Only minor thing was the restarts here and there.
Other than that the phone is really fast and stable, with no problems whatsoever.
Wrong section, please avoid!

make sure your friend is using 3G and not stuck on EDGE
not sure which frecuency Vodaphone UK runs on, but last i recal they are on the same bands as Orange UK
Nexus S 3G runs on 900/1700/2100
I tried to look around for this answer with no luck.
What is the best Radio for the MyTouch 4g?
I am noticing the that MyTouch 4G wifi is not as strong as the Iphone 3GS was.
I think same goes for the signal, what Radio should I flash to get the BEST signal possible, I was reading that different strokes for different fokes, but I don't understand that since one has to be overall better. I live in NYC/NJ Area if that makes a difference.
I currently have the Radio-26.03.02.26_M (Stock I think).
Each radio acts differently with each different rom. If you are on a custom rom, best to ask the members in that rom thead. There is no overall "best" radio that I can suggest.
best thing to do is flash each one and give it a couple days in between to see which radio works best for you
