If my phone is sitting by my computer, and I'm about to get a Text Message or Phone call, everyone knows the dii dii dii, noise that your speakers/monitor make/do.
Well, it doesn't even do that noise or anything, the screen will just light up then go away. Normally it'll light up if I'm about to get a text message or a phone call and then a second later it would come through.
Well it doesn't. It just lights up.
Anybody else have this problem, and know why it does it?
I have the same problem, usually I notice it when only after I've just used it. Example, I've used it, switch it off.. then a few seconds later, it switch on by itself with no reason. If I were to switch it off again, it'll be alright.
I have a problem with backlight though, I suspect that is to do with PhoneAlarm though, since I've got this problem after installing it. The backlight will sometimes be set to 0 and have to manually set it back to the 25% I use.
Hmm. Well I know that it's not only my problem.
I an using Faria's WM6 rom.

Most of the time it is other stuff on the phone or setting changes. There are plenty of threads on the wake-up "issue". Try searching.

If you guys are using WM6 this thread might help:

Does anyone know how to stop the Today screen activating when the device turns off/on? I often turn my Nike off when I need to do something else for a moment and I'd like to be able to immediately return to what I was doing without going to the Today screen and then into the Start Menu. Even worse if it's something under Settings I have to go through the menus.
I don't understand very well the problem, do you mean that, when you are in any screen, turn off the screen and turn on again it's in the Today screen?.
In my device that doesn't happens, if i turn off/on the screen, the device remains in the application, form, etc.. that I was.
Mine does the same as the guy above me .. only using sliding actions i go back to today screen
btw since I've installed sliding actions .. my phone connects to internet everytime I receive message or have had a phone call
dekoning, I used to have the Today screen activate on slide as well. I use Slide Actions to disable all slide actions. It didn't take the first time, but after a few tries it now is working perfectly.
After using MortPlayer, I've figured out that the Today screen is activated whenever the screen turns on.
carlosmozas, what ROM version are you using?
I had to hard-reset my device at the beginning of the year and this issue was gone. But it came back! It started happening last weekend, I don't have a clue what I changed to cause this.
I don't want to hard-reset again!

Maybe setting up device new and creating a backup (Sprite Backup or similar) is faster than locating the problem itself

Here is a friendly suggestion for you.
If you can supply more information you are more likely to get helpful suggestions. For example, what ROM are you using, what cabs have you installed, and what tweaks have you made. Without this sort of information it is impossible for anyone else to get enough of a handle on your problem to make useful suggestions.
you obviously have something acting in background that wakes up the phone from standby, check the list of installed applications from the settings and remove one by one those which you think have any reason to be always active on the phone.
I know for certain that HD2proximityscreenoff has te habit of turning on the backlight in standby at random intervals.
I have noticed that my x2a goes out of standby when I am putting it into its case (on my belt). This causes the display to turn on again -- wasting battery time and possibly starting programs.
Has anyone else noticed this? I find that if I hold the phone for an additional 3 seconds befor I place it into the case, going out of standby does not appear to happen ... but that could be just operator error ... and I have tried to avoid hitting any of the buttons when inserting the phone, but the whole thing could be operator error ... or, like I think, that the phone is sensing a position change and jumping out of standby ...
Is there a fix for this?
I thought I'm the only one experiencing that problem.. The thing is, my phone is just on the table and in standby mode and then for some reason it just opens... Very weird..
Sometimes it happens to me too. i don't know why it happens.

Just a far shot:
Are you guys by any chance using the OneBridge syncronisation software?
I had this problem but it disappeared when my company switched to Activesynch/WMA for Exchange syncronisation.
i noticed my phone was doing this to, so i set it down and watch it for a while and noticed the screen will turn on when it is updating my weather or email, so this may happen when ever it automatically connects (due to some email, weather, ect.) you can try turning off data connection, and see if that changes anything. good luck

mine was off all along... so I guess it doesn't update anything when this happens...
sorry that didn't work, i'm just thinking out loud now, but my phone has recently stopped turning the screen on by itself. uhm things i've downloaded recently was the SDfix.cab and the htcSDK.cab but both of those wouldn't effect it. uhmmm. is there possibly something running in the background? the only other thing i can think of is lock your phone so you won't push button while its in your pocket, and wait for an update (which an update is unlikely to come out). sorry i couldn't help

It's okay dude, I did what you said.. I locked my phone whenever I have to put it in standby mode, and great... It doesn't turn on by itself.. so I'm guessing that I pushed some buttons while the phone is in my pocket...
cheers mate!
It's the magnet!
I know the question was asked a while ago, but noone has posted this as a possible reason.
There is a magnetic sensor for opening the keyboard in the top left corner of the device. When you move your phone near a magnet (most phone cases' covers are held by magnets) it will detect opening the keyboard and go out of standby.

I just tried that, and it does some out of standby when I pull it out of the case ... I was wondering why that happened -- sometimes, and not others -- and that answers the issue of pulling it out of the case ...
Thanks for that explaination ...
But there are other times when it goes out by itself ... but I have it is the case most of the time now, and not on the charger ... so it is not really an issue for me anymore, but it is another mistery solved ...
Yup, my X2 does the same annoying thing.
I agree, best way is to lock the screen.
I noticed that the screen part of the phone is kinda wiggly...
Hi there,
Recently purchased TM Leo and I am on stock ROM 2.13531.1 (90963) WWE.. for last 2 days the cell backlight keeps coming on indicating that some program is running in the background.. causing the battery to drain within 12hrs with little use. Tried flwg to solve the issue:
1] thinkin it cud be due to additionally loaded programs.. tried hard reset and reverted to stock rom but the problem persists. I'd ESET AV, Skype for WM, GPSed, pocket RAR & cleanRAM installed.
Even d cleanRAM Level-2 purge & hard reset has not solved d issue. task manager does not show any programs running.
2] to my understanding some additional process running in d background is causing d issue.. but i dont possess sound knowledge to kill d processes. FYG flwg processes r available to kill thru cleanRAM:
Below list: process name (my understanding.. pls correct, if wrong)
NK (understand its a kernel - cannot be killed)
BTTrayCE (general - shud not cause d issue)
AudioManager_en (not sure)
voicecmd (dont use - can be killed)
AlbumSearcher (dont use - can be killed)
poutlook (required)
SyncManager (general - shud not cause d issue)
imforwarding (dont use - can be killed)
EsetOAMobile (required)
manila (required)
siHome (not sure)
siwatcher (not sure)
tmail (not sure)
BTW.. m in India n using unlocked (code fm T-Mo) Leo on Vodafone india.
Appreciate ur response & help.. its frustrating to charge twice a day..

TM-HD2 bricked (wrong flash)
TM-HD2 unlocked (VF-India)

Many events can trigger the backlight, e.g. sms, email, reminders, alarms, etc. And the settings are all in different places.
Instead of trying to find out what is turning it on, why don't you just change your power settings, e.g. when on battery, dim or standby after 1 minute of no activity. That way, even if it turns on, it will turn off after the inactivity period. You can change the power settings at: Settings|Sound & Display|Backlight

My backlight settings r at 30s/1min. Understand that.. but it happens way too often.. say avg every 3 mins. besides initially this phenomenon wasn't happening earlier n battery wud last easy for a day with similar use.
thanks thou.
When you did a hard reset and without installing any programs, does this problem occur? If not, then install one program and a time and observe if it happens.
If your HD2 is turning on every 3 minutes then something is definitely wrong.
i use netripper's proximity screen off to disable backlight when not in use. look for it here in xda. the backlight turns on for so many reasons we're not aware of and when one of the hard keys is pressed inadvertently, e.g. even inside the bag or pocket. this app turns it off, thus saving battery, using the proximity screen. i always put my hd2 upside down on the table for example and let this app take care of turning off the screen for me.

Did you find a fix for this? My tmo hd2 is doing the same thing, screen keeps waking up every 30 sec to a min killing my battery. Im running kumar 2.9. tried reflashing, hard reset, tast 29, flashed new radio, nothing seems to slove this.
This sounds like the "car kit issue" again. Basically the contacts within the USB port corrode and it shorts out 2 pins that are meant to be shorted out with a resistor when the car kit is plugged in, this signals the HD2 to stay turned on, and to usually launch the navipanel, speaker phone enabled by default in calls.
Unfortunately there is no known fix for this you will have to do a warranty swap though t-mobile. I had to swap mine for this very reason about a month and a half ago.
I now keep tape over my USB port to keep debris and moisture out. i am on the lookout for a rubber plug to fit in there. I charge my batteries using a standalone charger, physically swaping out the battery in the phone every morning. Added benefit of the phone getting a reboot in the morning. It also comes in handy because I now have 3 batteries and can bring spares along when i know ill be away from a power source awhile and be using the phone alot.
There is a whole thread about this issue in the normal HD2 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619859
Thanks for the info. I looked at mine, it looked ok little dirt nothing big. Cleaned it out, but still did it. So I put it back to bone stock, even took off the hspl. That seemed to do the trick, it not waking up by itself any more. The rom I updated must of messed up the hspl some how.
