Is something wrong with my phone? My Quadrant scores are NO where NEAR where they should be. I just got a whopping 872 I avg 900-1000. I know it might not matter, and that those scores can be manipulated. But a few have suggested this might actually indicate that my phone is messed up and if so – I want to get another one from Sprint.
Basics – I am rooted, custom rom (myn’s), stock htc10 kernel. I don’t know what other information is need to get help with this. I have tried running Q scores as soon as I do a wipe cache/dalvik thinking maybe it’s just slow after that stuff clogs it up. Same result. I have tried moving as much stuff off my sd card and now leave about 1.5 available ( I’ve slimmed my music down as much as I’m willing to do . I’ve tried running the Q score with the kernel set to performance, etc. I saw 1250-1350 one time, but I was using a kernel that was so unstable on my phone I had to ditch it pretty fast (multiple reboots, severe lag, etc).
I also wonder if there is something wrong with my phone because it does not seem to be able to handle anything other than the stock kernel very well. The phone completely spazzzes out with almost every kernel I have tried except for two. I am happy with the stock and have no complaints about battery life. I use the phone when I want and how I want and easily go 24hrs without having to charge. But the fact that only stock and 2 other kernels (king’11 and netarchys) are stable makes me wonder….
If anyone has any suggestions, opinion, thoughts, etc I would appreciate. I have searched and not seen this specific issue addressed.
If this helps, when I check my Running Services, this is what I see and this list varies very little.
Blik Calendar Widget
Y5 Battery Saver
More Icons Widget
AndLock
Handscent SMS
Antivirus
Calendar
Com.smithmicro.dm (have no idea what this is)
New and Weather (I have use the glass clock)
Google Service Framework (cloud to device; messaging)
HTC DM (no idea)
HTC IQAgent (no idea)
Voicemail
Ultra Keyboard
Def sounds sluggy.
My recommendation would unfortunately be to start from scratch. Backup only needed apps that you may not be able to download from the market and completely wipe, flash a stock OTA root ROM, completely wipe again, and flash whatever ROM you like after that.
I know it sounds like a huge PITA, but it should definitely help out.
I had a similar situation once, and this did the trick.
Ugh. Ok. I can try that. I did a full wipe/factory reset less than 2 weeks ago. I use Titanium so getting it all back up is not bad. I also sync to AppBrain so at least if I start with a clean slate I would know what Apps I did have.
Thanks for the help and suggestion.
to eliminate as many variables as possible, i'd do a nand backup, install your ROM of choice with no additional apps except the ones you use to benchmark and perform your tests. give it an hour or so after you flash to let the phone settle down (sync, etc.). you may have apps may be hogging resources or be running in the background (i.e. y5, antivirus) which will effect your tests. report back.
I will try that way first
Yes - antivirus and Y5 are always running in the background. Always.
ha - maybe I'll freeze most of the apps I listed as Running Services, wipe cache/dalvik, reboot and THEN see what I get. But I'm not ever going to realically run my phone without Y5, Handscent, UltraKeyboard, antivirus, etc. I could probably get rid of the More Icons widget now that I have Apps Organizer, but I really really like having one, 1/3 page widget with 8 icones that have ALL my apps organized.
Does your phone seem slow? That is what I would base the speed of my phone on not some q-score. What if you never ran the test would you be concerned.?.?
I would try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836728 after your nand backup. That has the latest ota, kernel and you would not loose root.
I'll have time on Sunday to try some of the suggestions. Thanks again for the help, I really do appreciate it. I was with a friend this evening, his Evo is rooted and running Myn's rls3 just like mine. He scored around 1300.
And no - my phone doesn't seem slow to me at all. But I've also not used another to know how it might "feel" if there is a difference. I more curious than anything - I tend to research things to death just so I'll know. And I find it curious that my phone is both low on Q scores and can't handle many kernels without it spazzing out.
Hi Chaps,
I'm getting pretty fed up with crashes, performance and low space on my Orange Hero w/2.1, as well as still being miffed by Orange screwing up everything with their tinkering of 2.1, sooooo, I'm going to flash.
But, I need some help, 'cause I think I'm just getting too old for all this tinkering lark and I'm reading up on a lot of ROMS and just can't choose - I'm reading, but nothing is sinking in!
So, I like Sense, or at least I think I do. What I actually like is contacts / Facebook integration, 7 pages of home screen and the HTC weather clock and the weather animations when I unlock the phone. I like the threaded SMS.
I DON'T LIKE: Orange screwing up the speed dial widget, running out of space, the fact that the default camera apps photos have gone 'stripey' since 2.1, (other cam apps are fine). A lot of complete hangs and force closes, including lately, something.htc.bgp force closing several times a day.
I use GPS a lot (CoPilot, Cardio Trainer, Latitude, Maps) and listen to music. The std music player is average and slow, but has some good features (headphone out pause, album art, lock screen control).
So, a lot of requests there, but I think it boils down to me needing: performance, apps2SD and reliability, and compatibility with a wide range of apps. Root not essential, since I run all the apps I need to, but I guess it comes part and parcel with flashing a new ROM. I have already installed and rooted with universal Androot.
Any help for me?
Thanks,
Rich.
Hi there
If sense is a must, look at rcmix. 2.1 with sense.
If You would like to experiment a bit You can try some of the 2.2roms, ie floyo, villain 1.6 to name a few. But it is hard to find a good dialer, and Facebook integration is on much lower level than sense roms. They should be quicker, so depends on You hope this helps
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I'm not sure if Sense is a must actually... what does it give me? The 'skinned' buttons across the bottom of the screen i suppose (phone, apps and add), but there ae other apps that do this aren't there? (Launchers?). What else does sense actually do that I might miss if I don't have it?
Is Rcmix running android 2.1 as it's version number suggests? Is there nothing with 2.2 yet? I see Rcmix does appstoSD, and I think after the phone just running right, space is my next biggest issue, so I suppose it could keep me happy.
I extremely agree with you. You have just, like, took this out of my head and put it on the forums!
Except, for me, the most important thing is the facebook integration. Doesn't the actual Facebook app provide that outside of sense?
something.htc.bgp is the location service, I think. After that crashing, foursquare stops working properly. I can't live like this.
With the Facebook intergration, I just like the way my contacts show pics from Facebook, and I get the status updates from the contacts too.
I think I'm gonna try Cyanogen. It's the most popular, I don't think much can go wrong. Still, I'm massively scared, haha!
I agree RCMix along wit kimera2.1 are great choices wit flykernal 11c or bfs. Had both and rarely had issues. Biggest losses from not having sense is the weather clock and a decent dialer if u plan to try a 2.2 rom
This might seem biased, but if you try following the instructions from this thread you will end up with a very nice, speedy hero setup. It even has info in there of a very fast, usable dialler app, as well as an app to sync your facebook contact pics.
LauncherPro Plus has a Facebook stream widget built-in, and you can either use BeautifulWidgets or FancyWidget for the clock.
Should all be in the post! (Don't worry, it's not as complicated as it looks, and its a lot to read, but might be worth it for you).
Zeb
Well, I got Cyanogen Mod, and so far I'm very happy with it. Definitely will try out the widgets from above
Me too... went for Zebwen's suggestion above (Thanks!) and pretty happy with it. Took a bit of customisation to get it nice, but now I know how easy it is to flash, I'll probably try a few.
Am I right in thinking I can do as many Nandroid backups as I want, and later on, restore to any previous, full setup, including Apps and data?
Verified my own question on Nand backups.
I had a problem yesterday with the camera force closing... is this a known issue? Reboot seems to have cured it so far, but despite the rest of the ROM being fine, the camera does seem a bit 'iffy'. Exposure wouldn't adjust when using it with barcode scanner the other day.
Can't post in the right forum yet, maybe I should talk about the weather or something? Or maybe even a mod can move it over there.
Anyways, I cracked the screen on my first Incredible, doing a backup was worthless compared to my Treo as it didn't backup everything. So I rooted it and my new phone and did a nandroid backup. Lo and behold Gingerbread arrives and I can't update since I have clockworkmod still installed.
I'm out of warranty as it is so thought I'd go the ROM route and see whats out there. As such I've installed Nils' Business GingerSense 3.5 - GB 2.3.5 - (11/13/11 v2.2) and have been pretty happy with it except for a few odd quirks.
For one, I can't read the text for some of the apps in my notification screen, Lookout is a dark grey and the weather is completely black. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere? If I use a pattern lock screen, there's some extraneous lettering above the pattern box. And yeah, the preview screen doesn't work for wallpapers and such, neither in the HTC hub area.
Sometimes upon first unlocking if I swipe the screen, it does a full 360 through all the home screens. It also looks like this ROM is based on 4.06 and not the newer 4.08, would this fix some issues?
I do like Sense 3.5 so I think I'll be sticking around with this one and stuck here till I get enough posts in.
Hello hello,
Glad you rooted your Incredible, trust me you aren't missing anything in the way of features if you were on Verizon's stock GB update. The XDA community is literally MONTHS ahead of that haha but you can always unroot and wait for Verizon's OTA prompt if you desire but alas...
1) There is not a setting to change the notification bar's color. I have the same "feature"/problem as well. I just deal with it, not ideal I know, I just prefer launching into whichever app once I know the notification is there. Maybe try your hand with using the android kitchen that Nils has linked in post #3 of that thread. Also, I would suggest sending Nils a pm if nobody in the community has a solution for this. Sorry I can't help you any further but just everyone who uses the rom has the same all black notification bar. I like it cuz it sort of acts as a security blanket as nobody can view the notification's content.
2) As for the pattern lock labeling, I am not aware of a solution but I have heard this occurring on other Sense 3.5 roms. I do not have a solution simply cuz I prefer using the pin code which is more secure. Again, hopefully someone has a fix for this if there is one.
3) Wallpapers: you must hit "Menu" then select "Grid." That is addressed in post #2 of the thread.
4) The unlock spin is actually a function introduced with HTC Sense 3.5 and it effectively serves no person, rhyme, or reason. This should be disabled by going to Settings/Incredible Tweaks/Display Options and uncheck "Enable Unlock Animation." However, you cannot disable the spinning animation if you move through your homescreens too fast (i.e. flick your finger left/right quickly) as that's built into HTC Sense 3.5.
5) The 4.06.501 vs. 4.08.501 differences are moreso software (non-UI) fixes. The rom is based off of a different phone so your issues derive from the base that NilsP utilizes and the way he customized the rom. Don't get too hung up over the differences as it is inconsequential. The version of Android is more vital as Google incorporates fixes that you may/may not notice.
6) Not sure if you're aware but XDA has a ten post limit before allowing users to comment in the development section. Just post a few more comments and try helping others and you'll be at the minimum in no time.
Thanks for the heads up on the notification bar, I hadn't read anything elsewhere about it so I thought it was something I wasn't aware of for a fix. I actually thought of sending a PM, but wasn't sure if I was locked out of that also being a noob poster. (yep, read about the 10 post pre-qualification, how about this weather were having?)
Odd, I just pulled down my notification bar and my weather text now shows up in white, Lookout is still in a dark grey though.
I'm not worried about the pattern lock, I used to use it when it first came out, not so much anymore, was just playing around with different things. I didn't want to install a bunch of stuff and then have to do it all over again if I installed another ROM (I had 104 apps on it beforehand, did I mention android backups suck?).
Yep, did read about the wallpaper issue, I just put it in there for some odd reason.
Unlock spin? Or left/right swipe? Currently I pull the ring up to unlock the screen, and I did get that zoom in animations. But sometimes, like 1/20 times, swiping to the right (or was it left?) it will spin through all the screens and stop on the middle one. And I didn't think I had swiped it that fast, I just tried it, and I see what your saying if you swipe it fast. Maybe I did swipe it fast after unlocking, but it usually surprises when it does it so I must be thinking I didn't swipe it that fast. It only seems to do it right after unlocking though, other times it just does the one screen at a time.
Ok on the 4.06-4.08 issue then, I just read that the OTA 4.06 was real buggy and 4.08 fixed a lot of issues. I didn't get the OTA notice till about 3 weeks ago and didn't investigate as to why it wasn't taking until last week.
I'm trying the V6 Supercharger next as sense reloads after I exit some applications, not always, but enough times to be annoying.
My contract is up in mid January, most likely will be looking into a new phone then and ICS.
Oh yea, go ahead and send a pm if you ever need assistance. I'm sure that is open to every user regardless of post count. Best part is, NilsP is a very responsive dev so I'm confident he'll help you out if you post in any of his threads or send a pm.
That is odd but hopefully someone can assist with the notification bar color. I agree with you about checking for bugs in a rom, it is an investment since you want "stable" and "working 100%" the moment you install a rom. When you run the V6 script working bulletproof the launcher. Ever since I bulletproofed the launcher I haven't had an HTC Sense reload in weeks and it works great. I have the same idea as well, I'm likely purchasing the Nexus this spring.
Thanks, ill send him one when I get a chance, getting pulled in a couple directions at the moment (shouldn't even be typing this!)
Man, that V6 install takes a lot! Dependent on other things installed which are also dependent on other things installed, have my work cut out for that!
I installed battery minder last night (one of the few I found that says how many hours I have left) and it's the same thing in the notification screen, black and dark grey text. Lighter grey then Lookout though.
I'd even wait on an upgrade a little, but my compass isn't working right, skymap has me moving all over the place. I forget what HTC is coming out with 2012, I'm sure things will keep going crazy.

Either flash a Sense 3.5 rom and use the stock HTC music player app OR purchase a new HTC phone.
If you want to try the Gingerbread OTA release, you can flash Stock Plus Gingerbread. The ROM is almost completely stock, with a few fixes and a little bit of the bloat removed. Also, you won't lose root as you would with the update installed OTA.
DInc with CyanogenMod 7.0
So I have had a HTC Sense phone since the beginning on my Android tenure. I haven't used pure stock Google too many times other than flashing here and there. Anyway, I am so used to some of the Sense additions that are either missing or I can't find in stock.
First, Sense links are contacts together for you and you can unlink if you need to. However, I know Facebook hasn't updated their API so you have to download a 3rd party app to sync photos. Also, I manually had to link/merge all my contacts which was a PITA and took forever. Is there a way to auto link contacts together in stock?
Secondly, I hooked into work email and the stock email app is not displaying HTML email. It does on Sense but I can't find any settings in stock email to enable HTML. What am I missing?
Those are the things that have stood out so far. I want to move to the Nexus line and thought a tablet would be a good start. Although a lot of people hate Sense I think it does a lot of things that stock does not. Plus, I really like the uniformity of widgets and it feels more polished. I know Google is getting there though.
Thanks all!

I'm a pretty serious sense fan. I really enjoy modding and tweaking sense a lot. I just wanted to let you know that pretty much everything widget and app wise that sense can do, you can also get AOSP to do. But it does take a lot of reading on the forums, google searches, or talking to people who have been using AOSP for a long time to learn all of the tricks of the trade and what's possible.
I ask because I'm always on the hunt for my perfect ROM and I have yet to find it.
My perfect ROM would contain only what was needed to boot the phone, connect to the network and connect to wifi, and it would contain a good phone app as well. Nothing else, the bare minimum.
I don't need an SMS app, I use PulseSMS and I like it a lot.
I don't need an email app, I use Nine Mail.
I don't need a music player or an equalizer, I don't listen to music on my phone.
I don't need a browser, I use Chrome.
Everything else I do need, Contacts, Calendar, Camera, Clock etc etc, can be installed from the Play Store.
Yes, I know all about the ways to uninstall apps. The problem is if the ROM I am using upgrades, all of the apps I uninstalled come back so I have to uninstall them again.
Yes, I know how to disable apps I don't want. Several reasons why that doesn't satisfy me.
First, some ROMs include apps that can't be disabled. So if the SMS app can't be disabled and I install Pulse, now I've got two SMS apps on my phone which is a waste of space.
Second, even if the unwanted apps can be disabled, they are still there. Still taking up space that can be used by things I do want.
Yes, I know I can build my own custom ROM. I've tried it and I don't understand the process well enough to debug the myriad of problems I always run into.
Yes, I have a bare minimum approach to things like this. But consider how small the download would be for a ROM like this.
So far, Slim ROM comes the closest to what I want, but even that includes some apps I'd prefer not be included. Also, I'm not sure how active Slim is these days. There hasn't been a lot of activity over the last few months.
So, that's my perfect ROM. Active and minimal.
How about you?
What type of platform/base are you looking for? In terms of bare mobility versus stock? I can take most ROMs strip them down to the point of being functional is easy. The hard part is keeping up with kernel and platform changes.
You might want to try Velocity Rom... it's almost as bare minimum as possible although you get a messaging app(you can't avoid that since all roms out here will definitely have a messaging app and it's fine). On top of this you get all the customizations. Though I'm not currently on it, but you will like it's bareness:silly:
Just Google for Velocity rom.
Cheers!

The base doesn't matter much, as long as it works. Maybe aosp, if such a thing is possible.
For the platform, the latest and greatest, of course.

Yes, I tried Velocity. It looks good but the SMS app can't be disabled. At least in the one I tried. At least with Slim it can be.
