X10 Dual Touch hits Japan Tomorrow
Official: Dual-touch Xperia X10 update hits Japan on 19 Jan
Just yesterday we saw a video demonstrating the new pinch-to-zoom update for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Well now Sony Ericsson Japan has officially notified users that this update will hit NTT DoCoMo on 19th January through PC Companion and 20th January OTA.
They have also confirmed that the new dual-touch features will work in the browser, Google Maps Navigation, Office Suite and Moxier. SE can’t confirm that it will work in all third-party apps. Hopefully, this news means that the update should also start hitting other regions imminently. Watch this space.

Flaming people like you should get a ban for life on these forums!

Chill people, the news has already circulated about multi touch and can be located in the multitouch discussion thread dedicated to this subect in the general forum
So calm down and look at the information being posted there on a daily basis
Hopefully nearer the time, we can drop and change drivers but we have to wait and see. No point in going JAP firmware right this moment in time.

I'm in japan with a docomo x10. As soon as the update hits I will upload the files here. Just point me in the right direction as I have never done that before.
Sent from right behind you.

next time pls research for existing threads on a subject and participate in the ongoing discussion instead of opening a new thread
with regard to the previous posts:

also to prevent further unnecessary/unqualified comments
Best, DK

Though it also mentions that it doesn't support the "multi touch rotation" function which would be needed for it to work right in google maps 5.0

"Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get multi-touch and Android 2.1?!
April 14, 2010 at 12:05 pm by Dan | In Mobile News, Mobile Phones, New Mobile Phones
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a worthy addition to the ever growing Android family, bringing a huge touchscreen display, best in class camera and unique offerings such as Timescape and Mediascape. But, as good as it is, the X10 is not without it’s drawbacks, most notably the fact that it’s stuck languishing on Android 1.6 and lacks support for multi-touch. But, this could all be about to change should the mutterings of a Sony Ericsson employee be taken at face value.
Speaking at the press event for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 launch, the Sony Ericsson rep responded to criticisms of the outdated OS by stating that a “very big update” was due in Q2 of this year. Though obviously not wanting to give too much away, very big to us would definitely point towards the X10 joining the Android 2.1 crowd. That is unless Sony Ericsson have stolen a march on their rivals and will be updating to a new and as yet unreleased version of Android! Whatever it is, it’s gonna be big!
As if this wasn’t exciting enough, our man on the inside was also able to shed some light on the lack of multi-touch and potentially quash the rumours that the limitations are hardware based. Though specific details were thin on the ground, apparently multi-touch is also something that is on the cards and similarly we can expect to see an update at some point in the second quarter of the year. Keep an eye on the blog for more information as and when we get it.
UPDATE: Since this post was published, we’ve been contacted by Sony Ericsson who have stated that the X10 update will be available in the second HALF of 2010 (around September) rather than Q2. Apologies for the confusion but still, better late than never"
WOW, someone confirm. This is like mind blowing =O
EDIT
You should make the title something like "SE Confirms MT In Android 2.1?" Cause people probably think its another thread asking about MT
Hey SE....Less talk, more roll out!!!
The article is dated 16th of April.
Yea, def read that in April haha, nothing new, and pretty sure that link has been posted before.
Why not just wait and see? Nobody knows for sure. If you want mt, get Galaxy S or iPhone... Can we stop beating the dead horse?

ROAR!!! i tot x10 really might have MT!! then i read the rest of the treads-.- April, sound like a April fool joke to me. damn=/
Those articles were everywhere in april but se then came out and said (in may I think) that the hardware doesn't support it.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
yes there is no perfect news about multitouch but in most of places it is clerly mentioned that harware of X10 does not support multitouch ( said by some sony official ) so final opinion is X10 will not have mutitouch even after the upgrade

No one can, it's just the latest update instructions. It even mentions as a new feature what we got with one of the recent updates: integrated backup.
Most likely, it's 2.1 updrade. It's rediculous to announce 2.2 update before 2.1 is released.
Froyo was never mentioned anywhere in that post on the SE product blog. Also, that was posted sometime in June 2010.
for those who havent seen it yet (which is almost impossible.. lol)

Edit: SE Brazil withdraws statement about 2.3 Gingerbread in Nov. 2011 for X10

Found on twitter Brazil and linked to "complain here" reclameaqui.com website. I had to use google translate, but it seems some regions may be discussing getting official 2.3 in Q4 2011.
Edit: SE Brazil withdrew statement the next day saying the Arc would have 2.3 and older devices will stay on current Android OS. I was really hoping SE had a change of heart. Instead, they quickly confirmed we are on our own. Oh well, Sorry Guys
Edit March 24, 2011: Sony Ericsson released statement that due to consumer response and development of Gingerbread for the Arc and Play has allowed SE to bring 2.3.3 update to the X10. Update scheduled for end of Q2-beginning of Q3 2011(june/july).
Edit June 15, 2011: SE Brazil releases statement that multitouch will be implemented in the 2.3.3 update, allowing for 3D maps etc. Some people speculate that SE Brazil is talking about dualtouch. However, SE addresses this in the comments saying that SE knows the difference between dualtouch and multitouch.
SE translated statements:
This is the SE response to an upset Brazilian X10 user who was publicly complaining to SE about the lack of updates to 2.2 on a well known Brazilian website. Click on the link at the bottom of this post for the entire post.

***Final consideration of the Company
Regarding questions on the upgrade of the line Xperia smartphone to version 2.2 of Android, Sony Ericsson announced that in 2011 the company will focus efforts on its new line of Xperia handsets that come with the most current version of Android 2.3 from the product Xperia (tm) Arc. The devices that are already in the portfolio company's released so far, will keep the version 2.1 of the Android operating system, updated in December 2010, and it offers unique features entertainment such as video recording in HD, plus access to thousands new applications and a unique user experience with graphical user interfaces richer. ****June 15, 2011- SE Brazil posts on their blog.....
With the update release date approaching, many readers want to know what changes, what changes and what will not happen with the Xperia ™ X10.
Thinking about it, the Preview will make a series of posts about these key points. The goal is to answer the questions as the information is released by Sony Ericsson.
The first point: the long awaited multi-touch will be included in the update for the Gingerbread (Android 2.3). So a lot of apps that already run perfectly in version 2.1 of the system, gain new functions.
For example, Google Maps, you can change the perspective and view of the map even more clearly the projection of the 3D buildings, when they become available in the area that is viewed by the user.
Preview Track for more important points explained, as the changes and what does not change the operation of the X10. Until then.
I think there'll be a message from Sony which says: The information from SE Brazil is wrong, there won't be any updates.
But it would be cool to get that update.
doesn't 2.3 require 512mb ram?
There's a 2.3 custom rom for the X10, so it works fine with less than 512MB.

Not positive, but at least the regional branches are being receptive to the idea.
This answer is a little vague... there will be updates, but it is not clear if it is going to show up on X10... maybe they are talking about Xperia arc...
no, android 2.3 hasnt got any official requierments
512MB ram was just hoax

The Arc is coming with 2.3, so it wouldn't be updated to gingerbread. Also, the SE response it to an X10 owner not happy about not updating to 2.2.

A long way off. But it would be nice if they confirm that 2.3 is still on the table and being discussed.
Let's see how it ends
I think it's not real
until Nov 2011 we will have cracked bootloader and Android 4.0 LOL :-D
Wow.. I'm from Brazil and I didn't see that.
It really says "We reported that Sony Ericsson will not release the 2.2 version of Android, but the 2.3 which is expected in October 2011" but I think this is 100% bull**** from the PR person just to shut the customer complain down. Most companies does that on this site.
"...but the 2.3 which is expected in October 2011..."
I really, really, really, really doubt this. Like, why such a random month like October? It's 8 months from now till October, so wtf...
Well, you know it took about 4 months to release 435 FW, with crappy Mediascape pinchzooming and calendar...
So I don't surprised if it would take a year to rollout a 2.3 for SEX10. But I would really surprised if they do this ever ))
Amazing surprise
although im becoming happier with my phone every time i use it. I would love to get 2.3 on here.
After analyzing this, I have a conclusion: it isn't real.
I have some points to say that.
1. SE says that X10 running 2.1 delivers a full good experience for the users, so they'll rather to keep it in that way. They'd supposedly have problems developing a 2.2 version (I think that's just an excuse but... meh), so working in 2.3 for X10 means even more problems for them. They just won't make the effort.
2. I think X10 will be supported only until june or july. Then SE will start to work in the possible next Android version (2.4?) BUT only for Arc, Neo and PlayStation phone. But, in case that an update comes in Q4 of 2011 for X10 it won't be Gingerbread for sure, most likely another ROM build version with some improvements.
3. I don't know about any company to be interested on upgrading a phone that originally came with 1.6 to 2.3, no matter if the phone could be capable to run it. SE won't be the first.
So... Sorry guys, but this will not happen. I had the little hope too when I saw the new.

New Gingerbread software available in Nordic countries

In August we announced that a new software version will be available for all 2011 Xperia™ models during October. I’m happy to share the information that the roll out has already started in the Nordic countries for Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ neo , Xperia™ ray and Xperia™ PLAY.
The roll out for the rest of the world is planned to start late October going into early November. The update will be available for all unlocked phones and most operator variants but there will be local deviations. As soon as the roll out starts globally, we will inform you here on the blog. We’ll try to also keep you continuously updated on the kit release. For a complete list of kits released up until now, please check comments below.
Some of the features you will get from this update are:
Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras
Updated Facebook inside Xperia™ functionality for enhanced like, share and discover abilities. We have talked about Facebook inside Xperia™ on previous posts.
Xperia™ smartphones introducing world’s first 3D Sweep Panorama functionality powered by Sony.
The software upgrade will enable consumers to turn their Xperia™ smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station. Connect the smartphone to a TV via HDMI to get a big screen experience.
Gesture input – text input by swiping the finger from one letter to the next
Screen capture – allows the user to share a screen grab from anywhere in the phone
For a glimpse of the new software, check out the video from the guys at Developer World.
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...rbread-software-available-in-nordic-countries
This makes no sense. Released to Nordic in September but not for the rest of the world until the end of October / beginning of November, a delay of between 6 and 8 weeks.
When this update emerged I thought that Sony Ericsson had finally sorted out their ability to roll out firmware upgrades. Looks like I was completely wrong and that their cack handed mismanagement continues.
When are Sony Ericsson going to get a grip and manage to roll out a firmware upgrade to everyone at the same time. Funny how a company with far less experience in the mobile sector has managed to do this flawlessly for years.
Eeeeh, Is this guy/girl for real?
- Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras.
- The software upgrade will enable consumers to turn their Xperia™ smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station
Never mind being a bit late, we already had 2.3.4 on XDA since long, and the front facing camera stuff/thing is also funny.
And where and at what shop is the LiveDock(TM) mulitmedia station available today?

I would say that it does make sense to release it in the Nordic countries first... They are limiting possible bugs to five countries (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland) so they have a chance to fix them before a global release... I live in Denmark, and I don't mind being a test subject for future updates...

Want Ice Cream Sandwich? Get it on your 2011 Xperia™ smartphone from mid-April

During Mobile World Congress I was lucky enough to taste an actual Ice Cream Sandwich (or two) at the Google booth, and you’ll all be able to experience this sweet software treat on our 2011 Xperia smartphones, starting with the first models from mid-April.
Our developers have been hard-at-work to ensure we’re on track and the highest standards are met to deliver you the best possible user experience on Xperia 2011 smartphones with the upgrade to Android 4.0 platform release.
The first Xperia models to receive the upgrade will be Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. For these first models, the rollout will start mid-April and continue over 4-6 weeks.*
Following on, Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will receive their scoop starting from the end of May/early June.*
We’ll get back to you once the rollout begins to keep you in the loop with progress and to tackle any questions you might have – as I said, please don’t worry if your kit (customized software specific to your operator and handset) isn’t immediately accessible; they will be made available as soon as they’re ready to go.
The latest version of Android 4.0 is a very powerful OS, brimming with new features and functionality, but it also requires more resource from your smartphone and this may impact performance in some user scenarios. To ensure it’s suitable, and performs for your individual needs, my friends at Developer World have taken a closer-look at how Ice Cream Sandwich will change your 2011 Xperia smartphone – check it out here.
Because this update is a significant revamp of some of your phone’s features, we want to make sure you take a conscious and informed decision to upgrade, so that you continue to enjoy optimum experiences from your Xperia smartphone.
Therefore, we’ll only be making it available for download via PC Companion and Bridge for Mac (i.e. not over the air via 3G or WiFi), and you also won’t receive any update requests or notifications.
Again, we will get back to you with more information in mid-April when the rollout begins.
Finally, with regards to our all new Sony Xperia S, which will be upgraded to Android 4.0 starting from the later part of the second quarter, we will get back with more detailed information on timing over the next weeks.
Talk soon, Ant.
*The availability and scheduling of this software upgrade and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and carrier requirements.

Oh thanks, I've been a few days out without internet, that's why I didn't know about this.
This long wait is a bit too much. Now June...
I hate this update method from Android. It should be like Windows. I mean, an unique OS that installs only what it needs, without passing through the hands of another developer (Sony in this case). It's the worst point of Android.
And I repeat to the OP: better change the title of the thread.

For me the HW acceleration is the biggest deal, the browser is incredibly slick, compared to the old one... the UI has a cleaner look and the fonts are more readable, the mail client is a lot better as well.
I did notice the increased RAM usage right of the bat in the beta version but hopefully they'll have worked around this in the final release.
Looking forward to the release
