I have a Droid x and several times a day while surfing the internet my data connection will stop responding. It will just show the up arrow lit up constantly. To fix this I have to reboot or put the phone in airplane mode, where it takes an abnormal amount of time to go into, and then turn airplane mode off. This will happen after about five minutes of browsing or so and happens no matter where in the country I am. Its happened since I got it shortly after long and on every firmware I've tried.
Does anyone know what is happening and how I might be able to fix it?

Try flashing liberty with the uncapped
Data zip. Research is your friend.

That's currently what I'm running. The issue isn't that they're capping my data it just seems to freeze up as if the radio locks up.
I've tried nearly every rom available with and without the data uncapping mod.

Same thing happens to me every few days. Not sure why...
Happens to me also. Looking for solution to it. It will hang at 3G with up arrow or 1X with up arrow. Glad to hear airplane mode will fix it. I have been rebooting also. By the way you can put a switch widget on desktop for airplane mode.

After you reach 5gb in a month, Verizon throttles your data because they don't think you can get that high legally. However this is far from the truth, seeing as I used 1.2gb in two days legally.
To fix this, flash the liberty rom, and then flash the uncapped data .zip file. It may take a while to boot, but it will work.
As posted above I'm running the uncalled mod and it doesn't help. The data isn't running slow its not running at all. Anyways I rarely go over 1gb in a month.

FIrst post...my x has started doing this alot in the last week or so. Did yours just start happening?
This happened to my first droid x also, the 3g icon either changed to 1x or disappeared for 20 seconds, and sometimes, the internet just unbelievable slow less than 256 kb for download. Sent it in and got a brand new replacement. Same thing happened again sometimes. I guess it has to do with the antena?

my phone actually started doing this when i updated to the 2.3.340 update
and from what i have read on other forums this update causes alot of problems like random reboots(i also get these about 5 times a day)
I would root & lose the stock rom...
I had a prob once where several emails remained stuck in the outbox & data & system performance suffered.
Had to clear the data & cache in settings/apps/ choose all & then gmail.apk
{Fu$¡¤Π~2.0}
I have Liberty and uncapped mod and its only gotten worse. It used to do it rarely on 2.3.320 but on 340 its bad. Data/cache wiping and factory reset do not help.

So I've had the vibrant freeze on me about 3 or 4 times out of the 2-3 weeks I've had it so far. It's gone black with the bottom four buttons still lit but it wouldn't shut of via the power button or respond to any other buttons either. Also, one time it froze yesterday after I did a master reset through the factory reset option. This time it froze while I was trying to do a speed test, the screen stayed on in the speed test window but buttons were once again nonresponsive. I haven't replicated it yet though. I have to pull the battery to get it restarted.
Another issue I've experienced a couple of times is the wifi would freeze when I turn it off through the power widget (my normal method of toggling wifi). It says that wifi is turning off but it stays in that state and never actually does. The green light would dim on the power widget as though it's turning off but it sticks there and under wifi info it just says it's turning off. When this happen, wifi will neither turn on nor off and just becomes unresponsive. I have to restart the vibrant to get wifi back to normal.
Anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on these problems?

has any solution been found for this ?? i have similar freezing issues with my vibrant .. i found one possible culprit listed on another site .. there is a way to disable the TeleNavGPS app (as you cannot uninstall) .. it is supposed that this interferes with the phone to the point of complete failure
Are you running stock 2.2 from Kies? I had exactly the same problems.

You could try backing up and doing an ODIN flash to KA6. I've had similar lockups with some builds in the past but they are fairly infrequent. Currently running stock KB1 rooted with KA6 radio and it has been smooth for a long while now.
I've tried some of the 2.2.1 Roms, but I absolutely need wifi calling so I stick with stock.

I have the same issue. On my second Vibrant running stock 2.2. About to send this one back for warranty as well. Mine will freeze from the lock screen, either stuck on the screen and the display stays on, or the screen wont come back on from idle.

No other ROMs, I know there are a lot of good ones, but I shouldn't have to root my phone for it to work correctly. Within a week of this current Vibrant I was having these issues. I didn't purchase the Vibrant to flash ROMs, I bought it because of the specs to remain stock. On a side note..I was told after 3 warranty replacements within 90 days I will be able to get another phone from them.

Yeah, know what you mean. It is silly that stock is just broken. Hopefully the OTA will be better than the Kies release. (Are they doing an OTA?)

im rooted on android 2.2 but stock rom stock modem stock everything just root. i have had the same wif issue as the op. i just go to settings>wireless settings> wifsettings and turn on wifi that way. if you notice it will say error. 90% of the time this works and you will not have to reboot. i switch from wifi to 3g a lot. i have not figured the cause just yet but this is a work around for now.
as far as deleting the bloatware i rooted and deleted all that crap like sims, and other apps that i do not/will not ever use. there is a thread on which ones are safe to delete. be careful about deleting apps that are used by google such as google talk.

I'm having the same problems!!!
I am now on the 3rd replacement (that's the 4th T-Mobile's Samsung Vibrant 3G!!!) and still having problems.
My phone will just be sitting on my desk at work and I'll hear it buzz a couple times. I know that buzz. It's something "Force Closing" in the background. I will pick my phone up and it will be unresponsive. It will light up the 4 buttons on the bottom of the device, but nothing else. Normally, it will then immediately start rebooting. It will go through the usual start-up screens. It will then show the status bar at the top; battery life, alarm clock, signal, 3G/WiFi, Media Scanning progress. However, the rest of the screen will be black. It will then vibrate once, then 2 more times and do it all over. It repeats this at least once for around an hour EVERY DAY!!! Other times, it will not restart on it's own and I will have to hold down the power button to manually do so.
I have also gone through ALL the troubleshooting I can imagine. All logs, history, texts, cache... EVERYTHING... has been cleared.
Please forgive me for asking, but it appears that I am to possibly root my phone for a resolution... is this true?
Also, has anyone heard of this "3 Returns Within 90 Days" policy with T-Mobile? I could easily do this with this phone. Has anyone had any luck getting them to do that?
Every once in awhile, I will look over and notice the Roger logo popped back up on my phone which means its restarting. No idea how much this does in a day but I have caught it a couple times in the past few days. Anyone have this problem? An excuse to get a phone replaced?
yup..happens to me on average around 3 times a week.
i launch an app..the screen goes blank..suddenly i notice the phone has restarted.
maybe low on RAM or too high temperature

Other than that my phone has never rebooted.

Weird. My phone has never done it while i am using it. Its always done it when sitting by itself on a table, not running anything.
If you guys read the SE support site, you'll know that it has to do with the phone running out of memory because of too many apps running at the same time.
I know that there is a group here who does not believe in Advance Task Killer app, but I haven't had this issue after starting using this app. And, I'll repeat again, it helps me conserve the battery, not matter whoever who keeps saying that it is useless for that purpose.

It reboots even if you have a lot of memory free. This morning it rebooted after 30 min from the first boot and I didn't use it.
Ciao Angelo
noticed this happening quite a bit over last 2-3 days, not sure if its been caused by program update, possibly adw home.

you showld try to turn off the WCDMA mode, after turning only GSM mode it never restarted again, and if i turn it on goes back to restarting every once in a wille, especialy when connected to my car's bluetooth.
try it and give feed back.
Started happening to me after I stopped using advanced task killer... maybe it happens when it runs out of ram?
Don't your phones get extremely laggy without ATK? I usually don't exit apps when I'm done with them, I just press the home button, and open up more apps, so I can't go without it...
As far as I can recall, my phone's never restarted on me...
In the last couple of days it is happening to me too.
I stop using the phone for some time, and then it just restarts itself.
i just bought an x10 yerstday and ever since the recent update it has continuously rebooted on its own when browsing the net and playing music.
This really bugged me since i didnt know whether it was a faulty set or the new update was the problem. after going through various threads on various forums i realised the problem is very common.(unrooted before and fully factory unlocked)
So here is my Solution. it has not restarted yet after doing the following
1. Rooting and updating to latest firmware R2BA026
2. Installing Auto memory manager
> Setting it as follows
FA... 2MB
VA... 2MB
SS... 4MB
HA... 5MB
CP... 6MB
EA... 6MB
3. Installing Advanced Task Killer (Using it as normally as u could do)
> Untick Superuser permission
> Untick Auto Memory Manager
Dont let the memory fall below 15mb always check Auto Memory Manager and then use ATK.
Please tell me if this worked for you. it worked for me

Tried this, also tried resetting using seus and still it continues, think my phone has a fault now, I'm now running latest o2 uk fw (26).
If I'm on 3g it will cycle being connected and disconnected almost constantly, makes using net impossible, if I set it to use gsm only everything is fine. Could be o2 screwing with 3g where I live but I don't think so some how, not for this length of time!

Hey guys, I'm having an issue where my Atrix keeps disconnecting the data connection every few seconds whenever I start using data (browsing, youtube, google music, etc).
When the issue first started I was running ATT 4.5.91 with 01.77.15 Baseband. So far I tried factory reset, reflashing baseband, CM7 Ba2Tf, and right now I'm running on ATT 4.5.133 rooted and deodexed, with 01.77.36P ATT Baseband. I did the update to 4.5.133 and the current radio via CWM after wiping cache, dalvik and data. The problem still occurs.
If I keep my phone idle, it stays connected (blue bars, blue H+ icon and arrows beneath it).
A few seconds after I start browsing the web or using other data intensive tasks it keeps disconnecting the data connection at frequent intervals, every few seconds. It doesn't drop any signal bars, but the H+ and bars turn grey (lost connection to google servers) and doesn't show the Up/Down arrows below H+, meaning it disconnected the data connection. After a few seconds it connects back and everything turns blue again.
It's really annoying and I'm out of ideas. I have tried reflashing everything, another rom, another radion, also tried setting the apns by hand, all to no avail. Some insight would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Sounds like an app problem. The new market did this in it's earlier versions. Would have to reboot or go into and out of airplane mode to reconnect data. What apps are you using when it happens?
In my case, CPU Tuner was causing this behavior.
I think I've set it up incorrectly or something and as soon as I uninstalled it the problem went away, but will try it again soon.

Thanks for the help, guys.
In order to test for an offending app, I cleared /data (factory reset on CWM), cache/dalvik cache and installed the latest CM7 weekly. I did not flash gapps and did not restore/installany third party apps.
The issue still appeared while browsing the web. Then I restored my current rom (att 4.5.133) and left the phone sit for a couple hours. After a while I did a few tests and everything was normal again. Then I went to bed after testing the phone for about one hour and when I woke up the issue was back. Could it be that my carrier has anything to do with it? I'm trying to get a hold of another carrier's SIM with data enable to test it out.
I had this exact issue. I was running CM7 Ba2Tf for several weeks, no problems. Then all of a sudden, my connection to google would drop for no reason at all.
The H+ & signal bars would turn white, indicating that I still had a data connection to AT&T, but no connection to google. Every time I used one of the gapps, the connection to google would drop. This was especially apparent when I was using google talk.
I cleared caches, data, re-flashed, wiped, etc..., and the problem persisted. There was absolutely no way around the problem. I'm baffled that after completing clearing & re-flashing everything, the problem persisted.
I could not find a workaround. I am now running a fruitcake variant, and do not have this problem. I really miss CM7, and am curious to hear if anyone has found a legitimate solution.
It looks like this is not a new bug either. Check out Cyanogen mod issue 3557.
I know that this thread doesn't have much action, but for what it's worth, I don't have this problem on Jokers ICS Roms.
It appears that when this problem manifests itself, it's somewhat rom specific.

I have it on Turl's ICS.
That's crazy! Did you have it the instant you flashed the ROM, or were you able to run for a few days?
What were you running beforehand?

I think those having this problem should try removing APNs they are not using, thus only leave the one you are using.
I was having this issue on any application that would load up the GPS, as soon as I deleted all other APNs and just left the one I needed I never had the problem. I think part of the issue is when GPS connected it would quickly knock me out from data but on reconnect it would try the standard ATT APN versus the mvno I am using.
Probably won't help for everyone but that was my solution and it has worked on various ROMs I have tried (Blur, CM7, CM9).
That's a solid observation mastermind.
I would to add that the evening before I started seeing the issue, I enabled tethering on my cm7 the (ba2tf). Pretty much the next day I started seeing the issue.
Perhaps something got screwed up in the APN settings when I tethered. Up until then I hadn't seen the issue.

Really weird, doesn't seem to happen when the tablet is stressed or something. On the other hand happened more often with heavy memory stuff like big pdf's and when i live youtube videos loading, maybe I have an issue with the 2 gig's of ram? it's there any way i can test that?
Sometimes the tablet isn't doing anything an restarts. Like when the home screen is blocked. Anyone else had this problems?

Guys, I think found a pattern: Each time I get a reboot seems to be related to the wifi connection, like if the wifi freezes the tablet. Pay atention to the wifi settings when you get reboot / restart the tablet it's like searching the wifi connection like crazy, but, if you reboot normally the wifi it's already connected. Seems like a clue to me.
I played like 4 hours yesterday Chaos Rings. Seems like a really advanced game to me, so the stressing test is passed. It's not related to stress IMHO.
I've been getting random reboots too. Took several attempts to get all the way through setup right after taking it out of the box. At first I thought maybe I just hadn't given it enough time to acclimate to ambient temperature or something, but problem has persisted even after flashing the factory image via fastboot. Haven't noticed a correlation with wifi, but does seem to happen mostly when idle. Have also had a couple freezes and shutdowns, too.
Guess I'll be calling Google this morning... Argh.

I actually haven't had any reboots yet. I haven't stressed it with any games, but installed my normal apps and used it for web browsing/xda for a couple hours and no problems for me (yet...fingers crossed)
Called Google, and after being on hold for almost 1/2 hour (I'd imagine they're pretty swamped) explained the issue as well as what I've already done to try to resolve it (factory reset, fastboot recovery image flash) and they started the replacement process without any additional questions.
Just my luck, the first time in ages that I buy a device the day it comes out, I end up with a dud... Hopefully I get the replacement quickly!
I'm really nervous at this point. Mine is perfect aside from a piece of dust in the screen. Google is sending me a new one, but now I am afraid I will get one with more issues.
no more reboots here. But i think it's a software problem.

On 10/17/16 I took the OTA to take me from the July Security patch to the September security patch, with build number G935TUVU4APIA.
With in the first day of the update I experienced the phone freezing on the home screen, then rebooting. Later on I found it had rebooted while in my pocket (prompted for pin and system up time was minutes). Ever since over past 6 days it has become frozen and rebooted multiple times a day. Anywhere 2 to 5 times a day doing various different things.
I have tried clearing all system and app cache since after the update. Unfortantely that has not helped at all. So what I would like to know is anyone else on this build experiencing these reboots, or was before and fixed it?
I'm trying to determine if its a bug with this build, cause I will be really annoyed if I have to go through the trouble of a factory reset, then find out it didn't help cause its an issue with this specific build. If some other stock people can confirm this build is not rebooting for them I will give factory reset a try.

Dang that sucks, worse time for it to fail when its supposed to wake you up lol! Thanks or the suggestion but I don't think its app related since it happens on home screen, in app drawer, in chrome, and in my pocket with screen off. Unless its an app in the back ground. But I haven't installed any new in past 5 days apps that I would say are uncommon that aren't supported well.
Edit: I just checked. Since the OTA I did install 1 app the day after. The Nexia app for smart thermostat that came with my new furnace. I don't think thats it since I can recall at least 1 reboot after the OTA and before that app. But just in case I will uninstall that app for a couple days just to test. Thanks!

I had a serious freeze/lock up last night. I am on the same build and NOT rooted. I even tried holding down the power button and the phone was unresponsive. Cap. keys stayed lit the whole time. After holding down for 45 sec or so it finally relented and rebooted. But this combined with random heat surges/ups really have me pissed.
Had the same issue. On u firmware now cuz i couldnt take it. One thing that seemed to help some was removing the sd card and wiping cache then rebooting. I let it run for a few hours then put in sd card. Seemed to help alot
I'm back to follow up with the results from uninstalling the only app I installed since the update. It actually almost went 24 hours without a freeze and reboot. I was starting to think it actually was the culprit. But then I had 2 freezes and reboot today.
So I have switched back to my Nexus 6P for a while. Thanks to those who also reported the same issue! Since other people are reporting the same issue it seems to be a bug in this build unfortunately. So here is to Samsung pushing out a fix soon. Until then I will be using my 6P. If they haven't fixed it in a couple weeks then I will probably flash to the U firmware too. What variant is the U firmware from anyways? The unlocked North America variant?
I installed the update and have been running it for the past four days with no problems to report thus far. If I get a reboot or any freezing I'll let you folks know. Perhaps try a factory reset.

I get a reboot twice a day. Sometimes the phone will freeze while I'm scrolling through my internet browser or it will reboot if I'm using the SAMSUNG branded car charger and Google Maps at the same time. Other times it'll just randomly reboot out of nowhere.
This is extremely frustrating. T-Mobile recommended that I get an exchange and I did get an exchange and the same day it rebooted on me. I called complaining that it's not a hardware issue and they told me to exchange the phone again. Smh.
This sucks especially since I use GPS a lot. This phone was/is perfect before the update.

Yeah... Carriers need to train their employees to be able to know how to tell the difference between a hardware and software issue. For example if a user reports something didn't happen until a recent update, then that should be an automatic sign to not waste that customers time with a pointless exchange.
