Where is the ringtone directory? - Epic 4G General

Where are the ringtones (stock) located at? There are a few in there that I have but my wife doesn't and she wants it. I have a custom rom but I imagine the directory location is the same.

System/media/audio/ringtones
Sent from my fully armed and operational frozen Epic using XDA App

as you might already know, you can also add a folder on your sdcard (same directory naming as above, but replace system with sdcard) and it'll register those as well-- easier to add and remove regardless of rom switching.

Is Google down?

Looks like it's back up now.

digging up an old thread since my question is related: When i go to choose a ringtone(say for instance in text messages) it brings up some ringtones that are no longer on my phone that i know of. they were installed from zedge which i dont use anymore. I dont see these particular files when browsing System/media/audio/ringtones nor are they on the sdcard. How can i clean this up?
Thanks.

My guess is that Zedge saved it onto your SD card in a different folder.

Hide images from G1 picture viewer??

I've believe I seen a how to around here somewhere about how to keep images or certain folders with images from showing up on the G1s picture viewer.
I got some pictures I dont need people seeing when they look though my pictures stored on my SD card.
I would like to be able to view them in ASTRO or something similar or when I mount my SD card to a PC. Maybe a certain app can disable certain folders?

I just put a period in front of each folder. Like from "folder" to ".folder"
and reboot. Voila! Probably won't work for apps that need to access that specific directory though.
Haha, u get the pix from the chicks 2, I c, but yea put them in a folder and put a "." in front of the folder name like binary said, and reboot

There is indeed an app that will hide files. It is called "Hide & Seek" and acts like just another Flashlight app. After launching the app you hit the Menu button three times and enter a password. Then you can "View" or hide additional files... I have found it very useful to hide content such as the pics downloaded by the "Phandroid" app which would show up in the picture viewer...
You guys are awesome and lifesavor, thanks. We need a rep system or something like other forums have.
wow, ive been looking for a way to do this without the app, never thought of putting a . in there, nice work guys
The way the app does it, is it changes the nome from "pic.jpg" to "pic.kpg.hide"
mmm

Yeah, you have to do it on the phone.
Using ASTRO is how I did it. I renamed the folder with the "." in front of it, (Long press folder>Edit>Rename) then you can set ASTRO to view files as thumbnails, (Menu>View>Change View>Thumbnail Icons) and then browse the picture folder in ASTRO. When you click a picture, you can set it to open in the native View Picture or in ASTRO's picture viewer, your choice.
backup
Make sure you have a backup copy of ur pics before u try this. For some reason when i put .folder whenever i reboot, it deleats all my pics in that folder! Did it 5 times in a row, but i had backups on my comp. If i put .pic for file name then it still shows up. Gonna just change the file extension i guess and see how that works...
Anyone else have any probs like this?

Yeah... Astro... Linda... whatever you use should allow you to add the . in front of the name. You need to reboot for the changes to go into effect.

Notification Sounds

I downloaded an app called RingsExtender which allows you to choose sounds other than the default sounds ("Look At Me", "Captain's Log", etc) for your notification sounds for GMail, SMS, Google Talk, etc. However, I was wondering, does anyone know a good website or anywhere where I can find notification sounds as .mp3s or .wavs?

just look around. google wavs. i personally download mario sound effect. i really like the yoshi sound
I need an app like that but I can't fnd it. anybody got the apk?
I used that app before until I've realized (read somewhere on the forum) that all you need to do is put sound files into notifications or ringtones folder on your SD card and then they will appear in the list of sounds when you choose new sound for apps.
As for sounds just Google it -- there are plenty of sound resources on the web.
Ringdroid will allow you to cut a piece of an MP3 and save it as a notification or ring. Is that what you're looking for?
do they have to be in .ogg format to work? andexplorer won't let me copy/paste wavs or mp3 into the system folders.
I also have a question on this( sort of)
Where can I get the default ringtones? I think they got removed on cyanogens roms.. but I actually liked some of them. Help? Or pm me. Thanks!

just make the following directory structure using your computer on the fat32 partition and put the mp3 files there...
/audio/ringtones
/audio/notifications

I gave you the wrong info here it is actually..
media/audio/ringtones
media/audio/notifications
I keep my notification sounds on my ext3 partition, because the phone can still acess them when the fat32 partition is mounted in your computer.
All you have to do is push the media folder to /system/sd although I did make to make all the folders manually, only took a couple of minutes though, and the sounds show up on the phone just like they would on the fat32 partition.

Deleting Android off HD2.

Is everything related to the Android OS stored in the Android folder we put in the root of our SD card? Does the system create files elsewhere?
Basically I want to know if I wanted to get rid of all traces of Android off my phone, would it be as simple as deleting the "Android" folder? (using Froyostone)
Thanks.

Pretty much
Android makes some other folders outside the "android" folder itself. If you want to get rid of all traces of it, I would recommend you back up whatever you need off the sd card and format it through WM.

Wrong. Don't give out wrong information
to put it basically some android builds stay mostly in their own directory
and some are installed to the root of the sd card.
but other system files end up on your sd card too. also any apps you may have installed may save their own data to your sd card.
you could delete android and put a new build on and reinstall an app and it could read its old settings from a folder it made on your sd.
if you totally want to start from scratch you really wanna format the sd card.
my lazy way of doing it is to delete all the files and folders i see named in the new build im installing, and then seeing what files and folders seem androidy and deleting them too lol.
i guess im gonna get round to formatting sooner or later

You were about as useful the OP's question as he was..
As already mentioned, best thing to do is backup what you know you want and format it.
I think DontHate's nickname sums it pretty much all up... . Relax.
To go back to the initial question, you said "get rid of all traces" and to me it sounds like you want to take it to service or something like that, and don't want to show that you were messing about with it .
If that is the case, I don't think it will really matter what's on the card, more like you should revert back to your stock radio and stock WinMo rom.
remove thefollowing :
android folder
.android_secure
.bookmark_thumb1
.footprints
com.google.android.apps.maps - if you use it
tunnybrowser - dolphin hd browser
you might have some others dependant on what you have installed
Take it as a memory game.
Before placing any android files on the microSD card, take a mental snapshot of everything in the root directory of the card.
After usage, testing, the consequent removal of Android files need only be the files that weren't in the earlier mental snapshot.
That way, you get to improve your memory AND still use Android on your HD2 at the same time!?!?!??!?!
P.S. Do not forget the thumbnails folder in the DCIM folder.
I always simply delete the "Android" folder and haven't had any problems doing so.

Custom Watch Faces for Motoactv watch

To make a custom watch face you need to create your own images, an xml file to document the face layout, and a thumbnail image.
The main folder is in /system/clockfaces and stores your pngs and homeclock.xml file. You can either reuse pngs from other watch faces, edit existing ones, or create new ones from scratch.
The thumbnails are stored in /system/clockthumbnails/"color"thumbnails/"clockface_name".png. For instance /system/clockthumbnails/bluethumbnails/Disks.png
The homeclock.xml file has a predefined layout and all you need to do is fill it out. This is very much a trial and error process until you learn the x/y coordinate grid of the screen. I have attached a template xml file for you to use below. Remember to change the file format from txt to xml; I cant upload xml files. You can open the file in any text editor. The file has two main sections, a clock section and a live data section that displays your metrics. Leave settings blank if you do not want them enabled. I am still exploring all the possible settings so if you find any problems or discover any new commands please share.
When I get home I will zip up the watch faces I made and upload them. If you have any requests for custom faces just upload the pngs and I will make them for you.
This looks great so far I will keep checking back.

Subscribed to thead, very excited to see what you've got cooking here
Any chance you can post what you have done so far? Even just one new face would be amazing. I REALLY want to see some custom faces on this thing.
I have not forgotten about this, just distracted trying to get search to work and if possible, although highly unlikely, port google offline voice search from JB. It would be nice if I could just speak and not have to worry about using a tiny keyboard.
Dumb question but I can't view that folder when I plug my Motoactv in. (PC) what am I doing wrong? I'll def create some cool watch faces and post them here once I get this going.

Dont get your hopes up. People are having a hard enough time trying to port this to 4.0. Early feedback seems to suggest that it is really baked in to the core of the OS but we will see. If a working ICS port pops up I will give it a shot.

The files are on the watch itself, not on the sd card. You can either use a root browser and copy the files from /system to the sd card, use adb to pull the files, or just download a zipped rom and extracting. If you go to the motoactv wiki page and download ClearD's rom you can just unzip files and grab the watch faces from /system.
I followed the XML and successfully changed the clock face, but the font style still cannot be changed. In the XML it states <font> is the tag to describe the font style but I believed it's not. Any idea? Any help would be appreciated . Thx!

I need some more info. What are you trying to change (Hours, Minutes, Cal, Steps, etc)? What font are you using? Is it in your font library?
Is there anyway to take the files you are creating and put them on the "ClockFaces" folder that is on the same drive it saves the mp3s and everything?
My point is because I see there's this clockfaces folder and right now I don't want to root my watch. If it's possible to load from there, I'd ask you guys a template so I can make some more faces and distribute over here...
Thanks

The clockfaces folder on the sdcard is just that, a folder and nothing is inside it
I just quickly made this so dont expect it to be pretty. Unzip CMClock and put it in the clockfaces folder. The CMClock.png goes in /clockthumbnails/bluethumbnails. Try creating these subfolders on the sd card and let me know if it works.
You should set your watch to use the blue/ice theme. You may also have to enable 24hr time; I have not tested it with 12hr time.

[HOWTO]Make Spotify cache offline playlists to SD card

As of the newest Spotify version (0.5.12.52) the app has a built-in (yet hidden) feature of saving playlists to SD card:
Go to Settings and in the bottom select to "Delete cache and saved data". You will be logged out.
Log in again and go to Settings and set Download/Stream Quality to "Extreme Quality"
Download your playlists and they will be saved to SD card.
Thanks to user nomadjr for the info
Source: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Hel...w-save-to-external-SD-card/td-p/46803/page/60
The old version of the "hack" which is no longer needed:
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]The old version of the "hack" which is no longer needed:[/COLOR] Found this info on the Spotify forums and thought I'd share it with you guys. It enables Spotify to save your downloaded/offline playlists to your external SD card without using any other apps such as DirectoryBind and Apps2SD and whatever.
Basically you install a previous version of Spotify which supported selecting SD storage (no idea why this feature was removed!) and then upgrading to the latest version while keeping that feature intact.
[LIST]
[*]1. Uninstall Spotify and check that the Spotify folder in sdcard/Android/data has been removed.
[*]2. Install the old version of Spotify from [URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?64njb8peymtkawn"]here[/URL]
[*]3. Start the app and don't log in (if you are logged in auto, log out) and press the menu button and select the SD storage option.
[*]4. Change the standard location to /mnt/extSdCard or /storage/extSdCard and then log in (if it bugs when you log in, just exit the app and try again)
[*]5. Select a single playlist to download/offline play and let it finish downloading before you go to the next step. Don't download all your music here, just a little playlist with a few songs is enough.
[*]6. Go to the Play Store and update the Spotify app to the newest version.
[*]7. Now enable Extreme Quality in the new Spotify app and begin downloading all your play lists :) Provided you did everything correctly, Spotify will now save all offline/downloaded music to the external SD card now until you uninstall the app (unknown if future updates will break this feature)
[/LIST]
Check via your file browser that Spotify is indeed saving to the external SD before downloading your entire collection :p If it's not saving to the SD card, the path to the SD card you typed is probably wrong..check it again.

Just tried this by creating a playlist with a couple of songs in it to save on data and I think it has worked lol?
Which folder would the music now be stored in on the ext SD card? Checked in the Internal storage>Android>Data folder and the Spotify folder isn't in there as expected if being stored on extSD, but I can't find it's location on the extSD either
Can confirm this works fine. Had the old apk crash a few times, just kept restarting it and used the force stop in app settings. Now have a lovely 29GB to fill up with some awesome tuneage!
Thanks OP :good:
This is great and all.. BUT
Yes, there is a but ..
I want extreme quality when I sync.
This is not possible on the old spotify-app.
Is this even doable?
Can you update to the newest spotify-app after syncing,
then turn on extreme quality on the newest and get extreme quality on the SD-Card ?

I'll take a look at the file size if possible.
As soon as I updated back to the 'new' version of Spotify, I set the download to 'Extreme Quality' and then downloaded another couple of songs.
Anyone know the average size of Extreme Quality file as compared to a normal or high file?
Not sure how large the "normal" files are, but I think extreme are roughly 10mb's...
