Well, We all know the Browser lags when we have flash content.
But after Applying a "Lag fix" for the browser from the Nexus S thread, It actually works.
So here what they did... And it works for my SGS and the Browsing speed has improved alot for mine.
A Good test site would be Androidcentral.com
DO NOTE I"M USING DARKY'S ROM WITH HIS VERSION 8.0 BROWSER ((WITH THE GRAPHIC "Glitch", Checkered boxes when zooming ))
1. In the browser's URL bar, type: about:debug and then hit GO. You will notice no visible change, but you now have access to the more advanced configuration options for the browser.
2. Press MENU, go into the browser's settings and under the Debug heading, be sure that "Normal rendering" is checked and uncheck "Show JavaScript Console"
3. At the very bottom of the Debug options, click "UAString" and select "Desktop". (( COULD NOT FIND THIS SO I SKIPPED IT))
4. Reload the page.
You should now hopefully be able to see sites as they appear on a desktop computer.
NOTE: If you clear out the browser's data from the Manage Applications menu under Android's main settings page that you access by using the MENU button on the home screen, you will have to repeat these steps to be able to see sites rendered as they are on desktops again.

any hack to make desktop the default user agent
As of now I have to aways enter it with every restart
And that show javascript console bar is always there
I think it was done on the xoom
I know Dolphin HD does this
SGT 10.1 uplink initiative
Ya it does, i prefer the stock browser
ic an do it by entering 'about:debug' in the bar
the ngoing into settings, but its annoying everytime i restart to to do it, or anytime it force closes
I don't think this is possible without having the source code. I could be wrong though.
for now you'll just have to do it the old fashioned way

In the debug menu do you not have the option to uncheck "show JavaScript console"?

This was most definitely done on the Xoom, and it had to do with making some tweaks to the framework-res.apk file. xda user Sangreal06 was responsible for this, and I have PM'd him to see if it can be done for the 10.1. The only thing he'd need (I think) is a copy of the framework-res.apk file from a 10.1. I'll see if I can help make this happen...
I followed the advice in other threads, doing the "about:debug" then changing ua string in settings\debug, then pressing enter behind the "about:debug" again. This did away with the Java console and also kept the stock browser in desktop mode even after power restart.

Interesting, could you post a link to the thread that contained that method? I can't seem to find it I guess I'm mostly unclear with what you meant when you said "pressing enter behind the about:debug again."
Well, really, just
1. type "about:debug" in browser address and press enter.
2. go to "settings > debug > UA string" and select "desktop".
3. the "about:debug" should still be in the browser address, so just press enter again.
Doing so, the "debug" menu in "settings" disappears once again, you no longer see the annoying "java console" under the address bar on certain web pages, and it seems to make "UA string: desktop" your new default, so even if you restart (power off - on ), the stock browser always opens websites in desktop layout!
How do you set the browser to only open desktop versions of a website? I can't seem to find the option anywhere
Type about:debug in browser. Nothing will happen. Then go into browser options and you should have additional options. Should be there.

So where would I find browser options. I've been in the browsers settings by clicking the upper righthand corner but that doesn't give me any compatible options before our after doing the debug

when you go to the settings after applying the command of about:debug, you will see on the bottom "debug" in the settings under advanced. Once you go there, click uastring. Change it from android to desktop. This will tell websites you visit that it is a desktop and not a android device and thus load the full page, not the mobile version.
But it isn't permanent.
Going through about:debug became such a hassle on my zoom that I'm using dolphin HD full time now. Just have to get your bookmarks in the stock browser so you can get the cool scrolling widget and set dolphin as the default browser.

excellent, got it. thanks much
Is there a way to disable websites from recognizing my 10.1 tab as a "mobile" device. Its super annoying when websites like cnet automatically send me to their mobile sites.
check thread titled "browser problem?"
I had the same question a couple weeks ago ... this thread isnt the one I used, but it has the same information. Post #2 should get you what you're looking for:

Type about:debug into the URL bar of the browser and press enter.
Click to Menu > Settings > Debug
Change UAString to "desktop"
thanks worked
Is there anything more permanent?

the debug method seems permanent to me unless force closing the browser or clearing cache. Mine even survives a restart.
Not with TouchWiz I wonder if the US release of TouchWiz will have this fixed.
Another massive oversight by Samsung this one...A 10.1 inch tablet that displays mobile websites by default...well done Samsung
Its not Samsung or Google's fault sites show up as mobile. Sites refuse to change setting for a measly. 00000001 % of there traffic.
It IS Google/Samsungs fault the setting is hidden in debug.
Perhaps setting the UA string as iPad's will bring better results. I know that Yahoo.com has a tablet optimized page which should look better on Galaxy Tab 10.1, than the phone optimized page.
After the TW update in browser if you type in about:help, the debug menu will show up in the settings menu.
Hello,
I remember there was a solution how to convert standard Acer browser from mobile to regular, but cannot find that.
Anybody helps?
Thank you very much.

IIRC there is a button to click "Desktop Sites" within Browser in the settings. I generally just use Firefox.
Sorry if I'm mistaken.

Actually found the proper way of doing it!
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter.
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does this differ from just touching the menu tab in the top right corner, settings, advanced, viewing mode, & selecting desktop?
I don't have that in the settings on ICS...

It's even easier in ICS. Open Browser, then when you press the menu button on the top right, one of the options is "Request Desktop Site". When you click it, it will permanently resolve itself as a non-mobile browser to all sites until you return to the menu and click the option again.

The above for me is only slightly true. Some sites i visit will reset this. I Found myself going back in there several times yesterday and toggling this back to desktop. Not sure if its just me experiencing this. But still Its not like its a complicated difficult thing to do.

This shows how to gain access to the Android Browsers debugging, which has more options than the standard options. The UA string is the user agent string websites look for when determining which website to send you to, desktop or mobile. Changing that setting allows you to permanently set the browser to desktop mode.
This trick also works on ICS and is more permanent than clicking "Request desktop site"
If running ICS, try using ICS Browser+. Contains all the goodness of the ICS browser, but let's you set the viewing mode to tablet or desktop. Nice!
Chrome Beta runs desktop versions usually, unless there's a site that blocks it.
i now default to ICS browser+ it's pretty great.
In the past, Samsung phones had an option for opening links in background. Extremely useful for a site like XDA. You could long press on a link, choose the "Open in Background" option, and the link would open in a new tab, but you wouldn't be switched to the new tab. This used to be enabled in the browser settings, under the advanced tab. I can't find the option. Why on earth they would remove it is a bit beyond my paygrade.
Is the option just hidden? Are there other hidden options? The Aboutebug command use to work in chrome? Are there similar commands/easter eggs for the stock browser or chrome?
