[Q] GPS.conf problem - Legend General

Hey Guys,
I never ever get GPS of my legend locate. Today I see the gps.conf file (I mean /etc/gps.conf )
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
However, I am now in canada, is that the reason why I never get the satellites locate?
I tried to change it , but it says that it is a read-only file system (even I got rooted and try to chmod 777)
Could anyone told me how to solve it?
BTW. I currently use CM 6.1 ... I think many people get this version and it works right, but why mine doesn't work (it didn't work in my previous android 2.1 kernel either)...
Help!!!
Update, I find another gps.conf in my phone. it's in /system/etc/gps.conf... what's the difference?

All right... I need to mount them....
: D
But it didn't work correctly... sometimes the old version(europe one) came back.
and the now there is zero or one satellite on the GPS..

[Q] GPS Issue - Darkstone 1.5 SuperRAM

Hello all
First i'll tell you what i've done to remedy the fact I haven't had GPS once in the month i've been using this build.
added "gps_zone=uk" to my startup.txt
Downloaded quickgps data in winmo.
Downloaded agps data in GPS Status - Android
Changed the gps.conf file both in the Android system/etc and the 'other' system/etc which provides r/w access and is then copied on each boot to Androids system/etc folder.
Here are the contents of the above file:
NTP_SERVER=uk.pool.ntp.org
server 0.uk.pool.ntp.org
server 1.uk.pool.ntp.org
server 2.uk.pool.ntp.org
server 3.uk.pool.ntp.org
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
I have a Dell Streak. Side by side, the Streak finds a lock within seconds. My HD2 doesn't find a satellite, i'm not talking about not getting a lock, it simply cannot see anything.
Darkstone suggested GPS doesn't work, but i've seen people are using it. I've done so many searches for "Darkstone 1.5 superram gps fix" (hence the fixes i've already applied).
Does anyone know what else I can do?
Radio is 2.15.50.14, newest stock ROM from HTC site. I believe it's the same WinMo build Darkstone was using when he wrote the front page.
Thanks in advance
Dan

[Q] GPS Not Working in Any Builds

So I've tried alot of Nand builds lately (Like TyphooN CM7, CMYLXGO's Stock Desire, and a few others) and it seems none of them allow me to use gps ill open google maps and it will say waiting for location then after like 2-3 mins it will say your current location is temporarily unavailable I've also tried using the GPS Status Tool to try and download GPS Assistance data to see if that would help but it doesn't ):
Anybody have any idea's why it doesn't work? and how i can fix it?
Did the gps work before? does it work with winmo or igo my way (any gps software) . You can try and flash again the radio,maybe do task 29 and then radio.
Can you use adb?
If so, check your /system/etc/gps.conf file.
Make sure NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
Many builds have it set to "europe" or "asia" by default.
oh yeah maybe he didn't change in the config file before he flashes ,right?
Yeah I'm having the same problem I change the gps.config and replace the lib files. Gonna flash a different radio and see if it works
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Seems to be a very few people out there with phones that don't work with the NAND builds at all with GPS. If your phone still works using Winmo then I would suggest using one of the SD builds instead. Especially if you changed your gps.conf file and it still doesn't work. Did you try the files that are found on the Instantaneous GPS Fix thread?
Try FasterFix and GPS Status to fix it
I have the same issue. It used to work and for the hell of it, I flashed a WinMo 6.5 (CR192 DESIRE HD v6.5.3.1.0 Stable - 1.1 Vibrant GTX Released) with QuickGPS and it worked and I got a GPS lock/fix. However, I flashed back to a Android NAND and GPS can't get a fix. There are lots of people in the [Mar.1.2011] Instantaneous GPS Fixation CWR v1.1 RELEASED! who say they can't get a fix even after modifying gps.conf. I think it's a kernel driver issue or all the hardware isn't the same or something.
Can I change that gps.cfg without reflashing? Mine is set to Asia....

Yes.
Option 1 : You use rootexplorer to modifiy the file.
Or
Option 2 : You use Droidexplorer on PC which allow you to explore the phone and get/put file. So you get gps.conf, you modify it and you put it back.
Or
Option 3 : you use adb.
I like DroidExplorer for this kind of operation. Simple and efficient

You can also use "vi" to edit the file straight from the adb shell.
Stroll around.
I tried changing the gps config file myself it was wrong too so i got excited it might work ;~; and I've tried the faster fix thing before but it still didn't work but that so I'm gonna try the flashing wimo and see if works there it used to work awhile back and super well too then one day i went to use it and it was gone Dx

I ddnt face any issue after upgrading to froyo though. Do something from the market you download GPS Optiization by Octy. And try with that and try doing it in a open space like in the roof or in a field. Or there is another application named FASTER FIX.
I have tried all possible methods vailable on net. Should I hard reset or flash another ROM? Everything else works like a charm only GPS fix is not achieved.
I too hv same type of problem.....however i once got it fix in 500secs.....but later no fix was found....

To solve this just change NTP server in gps.conf located in system/etc.
Root is required!
Change NTP depending on your location. For a full list of NTP server run a google search and change NTP_SERVER with the one of your area.
To push gps_conf in system/etc you can also use ADB (you'll find it into root/unroot package):
From terminal wrote:
adb shell
and then type:
su
remount rw
cat /sdcard/gps.conf > /system/etc/gps.conf
reboot
hope this solves it... helped me... cheers
Fasterfix does the same work...i guesss....
GPS Fix Solved
Finally the issue was solved after hard reset.
Now i get the fix in 10 sec without GPS optimizer.

[Q] GPS gingerbread on HD2

Hi guys, bit of a newbie here.
Ive seen on the site abut getting gps to work on this version and followed instructions but nothing seems to work.
It got me thinking... would an external Bluetooth GPS work instead? Just as a bit of a work around?
Many thanks for your help here

The OP may also want to check the gps.conf file to determine if it is optimized for the region. Check this thread out as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
I am using Tytung's Gingerbread 2.3.5 Nexus HD2 v2.9 build with both the GPS v2.0 and an optimized gps.conf file on my phone. First locks are under 10 seconds and relocks are almost immediate using the built-in Google Navigation on the phone. Without the optimized gps.conf file, first lock was around 20 seconds. Tytung's ROM is set up for the North America. If you are not in North America, then you will need to change the gps.conf file to match your region.
The build-in gps must work, but a bluetooth gps will work to.

GPS problem
Hey guys I don't want to open a new thread, so I'll just post here...
I have the same GPS problems as most people here – GPS Status and GPS Essentials are showing no satellites, 0 visible and 0 used for fix.
I’ve left the phone to search for 10min in couple of occasions and nothing.
I think I’ve tried about everything here to fix it (and this is begging to bug me majorly)...
Updated the libraries with v2.0 RPC tytungs update (before that I’ve used the AngleDeath Europe.zip patch)…
Then edited the gps.conf file
first added the eurpe.pool.ntp.org,
then tried following lines
0.europe.pool.ntp.org;
1.europe.pool.ntp.org;
…etc.
Event tried the (my) country specific server address (pulled it of from the NTP POOL PROJECT website)
rs.pool.ntp.org
Installed the xtra.bin injector
Tried it on a perfect summer day and/or night, with 3g and WIFI on… but no results…
I’m running
CyanogenMod-7-NIGHTLY-Desire[TyphooN_V3.5.7-MAGLDR]
Tytungs r11_beta2 kernel (the lock screen lag fix)
CW 3.1.0.0
Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
Any ideas?
hi, this is what ive used but i must be doing something wrong and dont understand what im doing with the files etc
Im using MDJ_GingerBread_HD2_v.1.0_RC4_RAM_MODDED SC Card version
does that make any difference?
Is anyone with this problem using one of the latest roms with agps support? I can lock on in about 20 seconds from a restart. Also is everyone on the latest magldr?
never had any problems using MDJ Gingerbread... no editing or anything else - it works perfect right from the get-go...

I think the problem is that on your build they recommend using Tytung's NMEA and not the RPC file that you tried. Try loading v2.0 NMEA by Tytung and give it a try. On some of these builds, only one of these files will work. I suspect your build is one that will need only the NMEA file to make the GPS work properly.

Yeha, I’ve noticed a after my post here that in the “update” list of the TyphooN ROM is stated that the NMEA lib is implemented in it… anyhow, re-loaded the NMEA lib… edited the .conf file again… rebooted… injected the xtra.bin … left the phone outside for like 5min to try to find any satellites… 0 hits :/
Man, this is frustrating… I would hate to have to change or re-flash the rom, I’m quite satisfied with this one… maybe I’ll switch to iOS XD

With all the changes that you did, you may have no choice but to reflash the ROM again. Then only change the gps.conf files to your region after the reflash if it is not correct for your area. Then hopefully your GPS will be working again. If after all that, and it still doesn't work, you may have to look in the GPS antenna to see if it is working.

I've flashed my phone (yet again) the newest build of the TyphooN ROM... edited the .conf file, AND... nothing :| maybe I wrote the conf file in a wrong way... should it look like this?

Unfortunately, I can't see the link. Maybe you should try the quick and easy way to change your region by using FasterFix that is free on the Market. At least it will quickly change your first gps.conf file line to the correct region and hopefully get you a gps lock. I suspect that the gps.conf file you are changing may not be correct or possibly the changes you are making are not being taken and the original gps.conf file keeps staying? I don't think it is the build. I've used TyphooN in the past with my custom gps.conf file that I use with no problem.

GPS on N9005 solution that worked for me!

...hello friends...I am writing this for all of you people that have a problem with GPS signal on your beloved Note 3 N9005...
...when I received my Note 3 for 4G LTE network, I didn't know that I will have any problems with GPS signal...although there is no LTE network in my country yet, there should not be a problem with GPS signal...so I have searched a little bit and found application that was the solution for my problem...
...anyway...let's start...I just want to say "Thanks" to the developers of the application...crypted and Zatta :good:
Please follow link bellow to download application...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198319
I did the following things in order to fix GPS signal...
1) You need to have rooted phone - there are plenty of links on the xda, I done my rooting from this link without any problems... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
2) Download TopNTP 1.0.4 application from the link provided
3) Place the application on your external SD card
4) Before instalation go to /system folder on your internal memory and mount rw for that folder manualy - you can do it by installing for example total commander app from the google market it is free...then go to buttons and create button with internal command, 119 Remount...it will create button that can be used for mounting rw partition...or you can use root explorer...
5) Install TopNTP application
6) Reboot your phone
7) Start application and go with already default settings...click on Install button
8) Save and reboot again
9) Try your GPS now...
10) If this is not working try with settings for your country and put General insetead of Derek Gordon's server, save and again reebot
THAT'S IT FOLKS!!!
There will be stored one backup file of your gps.conf file, don't delete anything...
I hope it will help your device to work as it should...maybe this will help someone...also...there is a full description of application and changelog for older versions...so check it if you want...
Thank you all...Cheers!!! :highfive:

1) Their program is still buggy - both for me and for you (your two files are the same) the program failed to replace /system/etc/gps.conf with their configuration that is somewhere in /data/data/by.zatta.agps/files I have also attached a (slightly modified) file that was there for me.
2) I have manually forced that file over /system/etc/gps.conf (with Total Commander - I think I am a registered user of the PC Total Commander for like 15 years now :good and I am going to test more tomorrow but to be honest the tests so far show that things are definitely not getting better with their TopNTP program on N9005

No, the (otherwise perfectly normal Linux) device driver does not read the configuration from /data/data/by.zatta.agps/files, you are using the same gps.conf as you did before (and just like everybody else you get it from /system/etc) but since there are so many factors involved the placebo effect has completely mixed your findings.
If you want to test the other configuration go on your phone to /data/data/by.zatta.agps/files and copy that one over original gps.conf (Total Commander will tell you about remounting RW) and then reboot. Test it on average at least a week and see if things are clearly different than now.
In my phone it is increasingly clear that there is certainly no improvement.

Manually editing?
Hi there,
Indeed, TopNTP is'nt changing/editing the file gps.conf in my phone either.
Has anyone tried editing it manually with the lines TopNTP suggests?
Would that be possible at all? Or is there some checksum that won't cooperate?

I did find the file yesterday and copied it to \etc.
Didn't really help
I solved my problem by tightening the screws in the back of the phone around the gps area (left of camera when looking at the back) they where a little loose ever since then it's worked perfectly

Already tried that. I even opened the back side completely to check for the pins contact.
My phone works perfectly in other countries. It's just here at home that doesn't.
It did work perfectly until I upgraded to KitKat
...update to the old post...
...Hello to all people on xda forum...
...I just want to add one update to my post for all guys that still have problems with GPS and didn't solve the issue...here is a solution...I hope you will hit thanks button
...this is only for those people which have strange problem when gps hardware works, for example you can update your weather on weather widget, but somehow you can't catch any satellites when you want to find your way in the city...then problem is definitely could be fixed...I did it with several N9005 devices and always was successful...
The real credit goes to @SchecterRocker, where he posted how he solved the issue...actually you can follow his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729322&nocache=1 THANK YOU MAN!!! :good:
First, as optional is to update your modem and bootloader according to your baseband.
Second, retrieve your default gps.conf file. Now you can go with tearing apart your device...just follow instructions that @SchecterRocker posted...or you can follow it here...ADAPTED LITTLE BIT
[[ INSTRUCTIONS ]] (See attached pics for details)
1. Remove the back cover, battery, stylus, SIM, and microSD.
2. Remove the 12 Phillips screws on the back.
3. Carefully remove the inner plastic shell (clipped in).
4. Take your time!!! DO NOT HURRY!!! Gently open around the edges until all edges and clips are loose ( you can use guitar pick ).
5. Observe the leaf pin locations shown below. photo01.jpg
6. This leaf is clearly related to the GPS, because bending it back restored my GPS to perfect functionality. TRUE!
7. Extra Carefully!!!! bend the leaf pin back into position, if you find a dislocated leaf pin. photo02.jpg
8. ALSO CHECK THE REST OF LEAFS!!! Replace the inner plastic shell, making sure to not damage the leaf pins.
9. Replace the 12 screws.
10. Replace the SIM, microSD, stylus, and back cover. START THE MACHINE!!! ...working isn't it???
Cheers!!! :highfive:
THANK YOU @SchecterRocker (hope you won't blame me for using your photos and instructions) AND @xda-developers

I don't mind a bit! Spread the word - it's already helped an estimated 20 people on the AT&T Note 3 boards. Need evidence and more details? Check it out here:
