It seems like the cruise has been abandon. I am not a rom freak but its been forever since anything has been developed for the polaris. What gives??
If thats the case i guess its time to move on to the iphone
Only if the embeeded graphics acceleration were fully included in drivers, it'd be enough to satisfy most users of the device, it's really irritating that the device performs worse than other older devices in graphics... that reminds me never to buy another device with a Qualcomm chipset (hence any HTC phone), so my next device would will come with a Marvell or Samsung chipset (mmm, those new Acer phones looks interesting).
I would never go to an iPhone, it's a toy, no more than that... I must admit that Apple scores 10 in marketing and they can sell uninformed people their devices.
Sorry for the rant, I just needed to say that aloud

What new stuff exactly are you're looking for?
There's a heap of applications being written every day that will run on Polaris(check the Forum).
Some guys are doing a great job in porting Android to Polaris as well. Take a look - it's pretty cool.
Whether it's a Polaris, Nokia or iPhone there's only so much you can do with it.....
Yes I agree, Polaris is not dead, it only reached a level of maturity that there is no need for any other heavy develpment... after all it's a good device with qvga standar screen that can run anything for qvga, and has a dpad...
Yes the 3d drivers issue gone a little bad, some roms dont even support or include them, but they perform good anyway, I don't think it's that slow device if you know what your doing.... you wont run photoshop on it...
And dont be sure that having samsung or marvell proccessor will be heaven on earth... a lot of my friends are fustrated with crashes, no reason overflows... and most of devices carring them dont have 3d acceleration.
The Polaris has 3D acceleration, in a way. It's just still not finished yet. It takes a HELL of alot time and effort to fix it, and most developers don't want to put in so much effort anymore, especially with Winmo7 around the corner with it's new kernel.
However, i still think it's possible to get Manila3D running without the sleep-bug, as long as people are motivated. But for alot of people, that comes with a price...
@Drakh: What about the Tegra when it comes out? Sorta best of both worlds...HTC device, which means in terms of hardware most devices will actually be pretty fully featured, and in terms of chipset, it's coming from a far better company than any of the other options given. Only obvious concern, it'll be a completely new product and is still untested by the market, almost certainly there's going to be at least a couple of flaws in the early iterations.
I don't know that I'd call Time-of-Death on the Polaris yet. I suspect a lot more development will kick back up when the Iolite actually hits shelves. At the very least, when serious Iolite development kicks up, and starts incorporating newer features/versions of software, it'll be relatively easy to create pair of roms side-by-side to cover both devices.
Polaris is my worst phone ever. It was expensive at the time and everything is slow about it, even the 2d operations like opening windows, clicking startmenu, slow camera, slow scrolling in windows like file explorer, all programs list etc etc etc. Real disappointment and i'm also looking for other smartphones with a different chipset/manufacturer.
i agree. i bout my Polaris over a year ago for 720 usd in NYC. for that i could have bought 3 iphones and it was disappointing to me that htc doesn't take the time to upgrade there phones. instead the fool us with a new one with slight improvements then another one with slight improvements. why cant they just focus on one phone and try and make it as best as possible.
This is primarily a htc device forum.
For anyone who thinks they may fair better with another brand device it is worth noting that the development that go on - largely thanks to xda-developers - is not something that is replicated on any other device.
The iphone is a matter of taste and while they have plenty of programs on app-store, it is as someone said earlier - a toy, a fashion accessory, an ipod with a phone in it.
If you are cheesed off with htc's lack of dedication to one device then I dont blame you, we all get sick of it, but every manufacturer is in it to make money and they are all slow to push out decent updates and have their own advantages and shortfalls.
At least with the htc devices we have xda-developers - and as long as it is there (and long may it live) we have the chance of enjoying the CHOICE of different softwares instead of having to make do with whats there as most of the other devices.

but what is it you want it to do that it doesn't do?
is it games? then buy a Nintendo DS - sure you can't make calls with it but it's a great games device.
want to watch movies? the Sony PSP has great video playback but it won't manage you calendar.
I guess the point I'm making is that devices like the Polaris try to do lots of different things - and it does some things better than others.
I'm sure that when you got your Polaris you checked it out at the time and probably thought it was a pretty impressive device.
Most of the recent improvements have been to screen resolution, memory and processor speed and performance. All of these are hardware related and something that can not simply be plugged in and made work.
As time moves on technology improves and devices look better, maybe work a little faster and do more things. To expect something that's a couple of years old to work as well as a device you can buy today is a bit unrealistic.
I agree with Bally - at least we benefit from up-to-date software through the hard work of the cooks and developers at XDA-Devs.
Personally, my Polaris has never worked better or faster.
u guys are so quick to jump to your own conclusions! i never said i did not like my polaris; i love it! i am simply saying that there comes a time especially with htc devices that as we say a particular phone has run its course.
i just wanted to spark some interest in the phone and apparently i did.
i was just frustrated how expensive htc phones are and its up to private individuals to make them work better. maybe htc should be paying XDA for there hard work
I dont think HTC like´s XDA much for obvious reasons....the reasons that made me fall in love with this community.
I bought my Polaris 2 years ago and i see new models in stores that are a few levels down so i cant complain and i will only trade my polaris for a tegra device, the rest is just small improvements
Hi All,
I bought my Orbit 2 for Christmas, second hand.
I immediately flashed the rom to C Shekar's' "a" rom, then his "b" rom; added S2U2, a few bits and bobs, changed the theme and am now happy.
It is fast enough, and I use it extensively for e mail and TomTom navigation.
I like it!
Where to go from here?
What should be the next phone, assuming I stay with HTC? (better the devil you know ...)

i agree with u. thats why i havent bought a new phone as of yet. i dnt wanna buy another htc phone. am waiting for something new but much better than htc and that is not htc
Assuming this has become a "spill what`s on your mind" thread, i`ll let you in on my feelings as well. When i bought the phone i gave 1300 Buglarian leva for it, that`s about 650 Euro (a bit more than $860) ... i loved it, it`s my first PDA, it was GREAT ! ... all of my friends were so jealous, it was THE phone. Some time passed, i made some installs and the phone started to go bad, started freezing, gave me the worst time in my life, i`ve never had such issues with a phone. Even now i`m trying to reflash it, and it doesn't want me to, the ROM update procedure freezes at 0% and doesnt go on ... then the recovery wizard kicks in ... and here we go again, and again ...
I will NEVER, ever purchase a Windows Mobile phone anymore, its buggy, slow and it cant event work like a decent phone ... what more should i ask, if it cant do that decently. So please, spare me the "htc sux, xda rulz" stuff ... xda-developers is a place spawned by the NEED for working software, something HTC and Microsoft both cant provide. Now tell me why shouldn't i buy an iphone, it does everything it says its supposed to. Though i wont buy an iphone, i`ll wait for the Palm Pre and buy that, and i`m sure, that will be deal for my money.
whatever you buy you will get bored with it and envy some new model that comes out a week after you buy your new device......
the good thing about windows mobile devices is that at least you can fiddle around and add new stuff, change the interface etc. keeps you interested just that little bit longer

My thought exactly!
The best thing about a ppc is that it is a small computer!
So it gives you a lot of freedom.
But if someone just want's a good phone then buy a Nokia! And if someone just want's a good multimedia phone then buy a iphone!

Exactly I really want an iPhone because everything about it is just so polished, but im sure to get bored of it. I HATE my polaris sometimes, but fiddling around with it is just so much fun, Windows Mobile is crap, but trying to fill its inadequacies is fun in a twisted way.

I thought a lot about the iPhone.
But .. as far as I know, it will not run TomTom.
Also, it is sealed- you can't replace the battery or get at the memory card.
AND - iTunes is terrible (imho), I much prefer Windows Media player for playlists.
What next, phone wise?
C'mon!, you cant compare a winmo device to an iphone, you're severily limited on the iphone platform (they just meet copy&paste and a2dp now for example), I'd never buy one of those devices, you wouldn't have the flexibility we have with winmo, and more thanks to communities like this... and it means a big thank to every developer here for your dedication and time.
cr1960, when I said before that the device performs bad I meant everyday use, I understand that if you want to play intensive 3D/2D graphics better buy an game console for example, or want the best GPS, buy a garmin or want the best photos, get a dedicated camera, etc; but no, it's the everyday use of Polaris that is affected, slow drawing, and is the very only one problem I see (video drivers), everything else is OK, the hardware specs of the Polaris don't have anything to envy other devices even more "modern" ones, 400Mhz is not any slow by the way, I'll put an example: the youtube app can't show decent video just choppy one and more processing power will help little without proper drivers (and as far as I know there are other HTC devices with more power than Polaris that have the same rendering problem), but watch the same video with Coreplayer (those guys someway figured how to talk directly to video hardware), and you'll see smooth video low CPU usage, see my point? It's not about demanding unrealistic performance from our beloved device, just that is underperforming in typical everyday use as it is now (maybe deliberate?).
Asking the polaris to run full size mpeg2 videos or do h264 or run quake at 60fps is unrealistic, asking it to run 320*240 videos smootly or show menus quickly or do smooth dragging inside google maps isn't.
The interesting thing is that the video driver (when 3D/2D hw acceleration is available) problem plagues most devices that use qualcomm not only HTC, even other manufacturers; I dont see much that problem in other chipsets, where it seems manufacturers dont have much problem adding correct drivers, maybe qualcomm doesnt make it easy to device manufacturers to add correct drivers?, some say so, dunno.
I've tried many 3D games, for example:
- Speed Forge 3D
- Quake 1
- Quake 2
- TinyWarz
None of them runs perfectly.
So if you want to be able some smooth 3D games, just pass HTC Hero, take a look at Motorola Milestone (powered by 600Mhz ARM Cortex) it performs way better (even if it has 2x2 larger resolution)
Some comparison videos
hero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTDdiq21EOc
milestone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ7qbqSnLU0
Qualcomm MSM7200A 528 MHz sucks (as i've haven't already know this.. my fault). It really show it's weakness when you run several task at the same time: download someting, listen to music and try to browse the internet/navigate to menus, etc.
I load websites on the browser quite often and the experience is not snappy on complex sites. For example the scrolling in pocketnow.com is so slow..
Beside of the CPU, HTC Hero is a cool phone. Too bad that HTC chosed this poor cpu.
i dont find the phone that bad on games. websites are also fine, on the pocketnow.com site you mentioned i can shoot about the page with blistering speed and i mean drag my finger all over fast with no lag..
Have you tried a different rom?
Speed Forge 3D is fine on my Hero. mcr 3.2 b5
@anarchyuk I haven't tried any ROM. My hero had already the latest HTC firmware..
@deejay300 by fine, do you mean like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSxGrjxuyEU . Compare with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ7qbqSnLU0 #0.22
You will see the difference
Much better than the hero video. I would say that that was pretty shocking in that first video. Obviously the hero isn't quite as smooth as the droid but it was pretty close.
Pretty much the same as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK_d...E2D406D9&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=19
Yeah, poor 3D and 90% of the users don't care.
If you want to play 3D game, buy a console and let people that love the agenda, contacts, GPS, mail, Internet enjoying their device.
They are as you said more strong and better devices for games! Buy them.
What I don't understand is why you even post such a topic, purely to bash the qualcomm cpu?
Reading you're sig makes it even more funny that you nag about the hero, knowing it wouldn't be able to outrun any phone with the same cpu.
So if you expected more it's you're own fault.
As you said 90% of the hero users did know about the 3d performance of the hero and don't nag. Are satisified. Those people thought before they bought.
You obviously didn't, don't come and nag to us about it...
There was a hope that the this qualcomm cpu run better in Android (and as general UI is smoother than WM).
I really don't understand why people just told the good parts of a device. The people should know that htc hero doesn't renders flash video perfectly, for example.
I like Hero, I really like the phone (even if it has many lacks, hope it will be fixed soon) but I want to tell others about its negative aspects. So people which want pure performance should pass this phone.
@profete162 let's be real. I surf a lot and the internet experience is not super great. The load time is not super good. Plus, flash experiance is far from perfect. Not to mention that on some sites the scrolling is soo laggin at least on mine (for eg: pocketnow.com). But yes, internet experience it's way better that the from my ex-WM (Touch Pro) one. I don't use the phone primary for games, but a nice 3D game from time to time it would be nice.
@deejay300 yes, still not smooth..

I think you should try a custom rom instead of the crappy stock htc one! adobe are rumoured to be releasing new versions of flash for certain handsets all the time that will work much better with web flash. So you never know you might get a better experience soon. Not so much if you go by http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/26/flash-10-1-snubbing-non-armv7-android-devices-too/ as the Qualcomm® MSM7200A is arm9!
I'm waiting the official 2.1 update from HTC, there are rumours that it will be released somewhere in march
And about the Flash 10 .. I don't know..
No, the HTC Hero will not be supported b/c it does not have the correct Android OS version and its chipset is not powerful enough. We require a device with an ARM v7 (Cortex) processor. Examples include the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and TI OMAP3 series.

I loved the HTC Hero - but the performance of its video playback was one of the reasons I quit and bought the Google Nexus One, which addresses just about all of the shortcomings. On the Nexus all my video podcasts and itunes music videos play without a glitch. Different roms were great but didn't solve some of the core performance issues. Still, the Hero was the greatest phone I had up until last year (and I had a lot!). It's great how these phones just keep getting better!
I dont see any lagging on my phone with these games.
even not with movies from torrent sites wich are mp4, doesnt matter what size, framerate or whatever they were encoded on, as long as it was mp4 or m4v it was great.
just downloaded the movies as an IPOD movie
So im looking on buying a x10 but im what you´ll call a technology challenged person..........so yeah questions:
Is the bootloader unlocked?(i have the htcHERO presently so custom roms are nice)
How bad is lack of multi-touch?
How is the screen´s responsiveness?
It probably will be harder to port other phone roms since this is manefactured by S.E.(assuming the bootloader is unlocked of course.)
i need a new phone so my options are (spain)
htcLEGEND but its not much different from the HERO so i really dont want it, the SamsungWave but i would chose android over bada if given the chance(would it be possible to port android to it seeing how the GalaxyS is so similar?) or the x10.
Also, no i cant buy the NexusOne from vodafone
Salutations.
Using the Xperia X10 as a phone, well its good besides the low headset volume. Other wise it is a good device. With the latest updates you'll get good battery life and performance. Emails, messaging, web surfing, media its all good. Listening to calls is kinda of an issue, well for me.
Multi touch is a concern if you LOVE pinch and zoom and if youll be doing serious gaming. Other wise it is not an issue. Get JustPictures it has one pinch zoom with is more practical.
Screen is good, but now its only at 65k, 16 millions is on the way.
Finally to be honest Iam not sure about the bootloader. Some say its hacked others say its not, but theres some cyanogen mod thread in the developments part of the forum. So something is coming up for sure.
1. Nope, not yet.
2. Bad if you play games, doesn't matter if you don't.
3. Good
4. When bootloader will be unlocked it will have custom ROMs. Maybe not from other phones but will have.
Thanks for the reply/s but what about the Samsungwave? I tried it today and the screen is amazing and the BadaOs seemed like a custom skin of Android ala SENSE, of course it dosent have android apps nor customization but I love the phone's specs if you could put android there it would be the greatest phone in terms of software/hardware/price but I'm sure this has been said.(I can't buy the galaxyS cuz its on Movistar these guys are real pricks)
Im really desperate right now gotta buy it in like 2 days max. What should i do?
The x10 has the bigger screen and android the wave tops it in everything but has the BADAos which besides having a retarded name is ugly.I dont know which to pick if i could put android in the wave i would buy it but its not clear if android can be ported to it.
Please help this post has over 200 viewers but only 2 comments.
You want the best phone today? Then choose Samsung Galaxy S...
The design matters to you? Then take the X10
Samsung Wave it's a no for me.. The screen is too small and there are not too many third-party apps available (for sure not as many as we have for Android).
i need one with a contract that isnt from movistar(i think its the equivalent to o2 in the uk) those bastards have the galaxy since july 1st, its the same thing they did with the iphone only they had it for like 2 years cuz there service sucks they need to buy exclusive rights so only they can sale it
Regarding Colour...
Hey!
Since X10 has 65K colours, after we get the 2.1/2.2 upgrade, the phone will have 16M colours?
So, just to confirm, the hardware (display screen) is capable to get 16M colours?
Right now, due to 1.6 OS, the OS limits the colours to 65K?
If you know what a bootloader is you are not technologically challenged .
I haven't played with a wave but considering your options i would go with the x10. Android is proven, it looks beautiful and custom roms are on the way. The only downside is no mt right now (if you play games).
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
You'll never get android on the Wave.. so go for the X10.. it really is a great bit of kit.
I dont really play games aside from some party games (drinking, dares) a friend lended me his x10 today to root and instal the setCPU app(knowing to do this is easy and does not require to much technology knowledge ) and i played a few hours with the x10 i really liked the design and the big screen although the responsivness seemd a bit off sometimes (i didnt get to play with it after i installed the latest firmware so maybe this changed)
also is there something preventing porting android to the Wave?(aside from hardwork)

The lack of multi-touch is insane. What on earth were SE thinking. I need to have as many fingers on my phone as possible at any given moment. In fact I prefer to dial numbers by hitting every number at exactly the same time, and just hoping they end up in the right order.
no but seriously, there was a time before multi-touch, just like there was a time before touchscreens.
Personally my biggest gripe with the x10 is that it wasn't made by Apple, but thankfully I have the x10i, which still have the 'i' in it, so I can sleep at night...
that cracked me up.i just got the x10 furtunately mines also the x10i
Hi All,
So I'm going to speak about my Story in Smartphone and all my disappointments about the Sony Xperia Z. I was a Iphone User since the first one. I bought the Iphone 1 , 3G , 4 , 4S and my last one the 5. After reading a lot about Android, I decided to change and find a good phone on Android. So at this time XZ was the best with Quad Core Processor and 2 Go of Ram. I was sure that the phone will be incredibly fast! I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 before and even with Cynogen Mod it was horrible!!
So I bought my xperia Z, I was very Happy about Android, lot a personalization, beautiful etc until I see the real performance of the device....
I had a Micro-lag each time I'm scrolling between desktop with the base launcher xperia... Impossible I tought.. and no really it was micro-lag... So I decided to try Nova launcher and now hoo a little better but each time after unlocking the phone a microlag appear again when scrolling..
So After try a lot of launcher and same problem on each launcher except one! TSF Shell was the only fluid launcher... And it's the one with the 3D animations.. Weird....
So I was a little more happy but after that I decided to check performance in games.. So I install Real Racing 3 and hoo working fine but no fast as my Ipad Mini who are supposed to more 2x less powerfull... and the graphic was better too on ipad mini.. and the FPS was not good at all.
Then I tried Asphalt 7 Heat , and same problems... not perfectly fluid , I'm sure I have max 40FPS..... and the graphics are far from the quality of my ipad..
When I play 10 min the phone beginning to heat heat heat until 42 ° ... The Heat control service launch his process and powerdown the CPU... Great!!!
So I like Android.. It's a great OS , I liked it. I didn't want to change but those points disappoint me a lot... Why the base launcher is not running well? I don't even see the difference of performance between the old Galaxy Tab 2 and the XZ... and then why it's the most ressources launcher who are the most fluid one?
The Last thing is the MediaServer, it's running all the time and feed with half of my battery and I don't even know why... probably indexing media but it's everyday and when I check the CPU during the running of this process it's even more than 10% so why the battery is used so much?
Thanks a lot all for your help and excuse my poor bad english
You can deactivate certain applications like your app that are running medias.
And if you decide if a phone is good or not only for homescreen lag (iOS even hasn't one) or heat performance playing games why did you choose Android?
Oh and i'm sorry for the heat control service that powerdowns your cpu saving it.

If you read everything I didn't juge android cause of that. I put a lot of Argument.

Sad to hear that you are experiencing poor problems with your device.
But first and foremost, do not compare the performance in gaming with the Idevices, because the way the games are made is often very different per platform. A lot of these games are made with idevice in mind, so the developers have put a lot of emphasis on the develophment there, so comparing framerates and else is like comparing apples and oranges.... We know that don't work that well.
Regarding the heat; in my ecperience every processor gets warm after intensive usage, and gaming is intensive. So yeah, a processor can become a hothead in that situation. Is like playing Far Cry 3 on Hires on a PC, and not expecting the GPU to run a bit hot....Kind of makes sense....
I have the same phone. And yes it is not perfect, but no phone is. Luckily I do not have any issues, but I guess the issues that people are experiencing now, might or will be resolved with the hopefully coming firmware.
I'm not a fan of any brand, I just get allergic reactions fro idevices. If for some reason you are not happy with the phone, return it and get another before it is too late to do that. And get another one. I mean brand. Or stay with your iphone 5.

No like I said , I choose this one cause I wanted to switch to android Iphone is good but too lock.. The problem is that I don't have any heating with the Iphone 5 even playing game. Here with the sony, it heat so much that I don't even be able to touch it..
I really hope an update will come to solve all this
Every Quadcore phone is heating up a lot during playing games. That's not a Sony issue
Don't forget that the iPhone only has 1136x640 pixels vs 1920x1080 of the XZ, plus not all applications/games are optimized for fullhd.
This Linux version is known for this, the next version in JB 4.2.2 is much smoother and designed for higher specked devices. As Renzo4000 points out 1080p is new and nothing is ready for this properly yet, only been out for about 3 months on any phone, so obviously nothing has been optimised for that. And most stupid games etc just scale to fit the screen because they are not made for that resolution, I am sure you know if you enlarge photo's or anything beyond 100% it pixelises etc
Secondly once you unlock the boot loader and install optimised Roms the system will fly.

sony is first fullhd android device... even tabs were 1280x720..
so software has to be optmized, for example, i have a strategic game (majesty) wich has serious problems in menu (everything becomes unstable) and game interface is too small...
or i tried another game (don't remember wich one) wich started in a window with black borders...
same goes for microlags, new kernel is much more optimized for s4 architecture , so we have to wait a couple of weeks... a friend of mine with nexus 4 had changes equal to day/night going to 4.2.2 even battery performance was much better
you can even block some apps (for example if you have a branded phone, you can have some bloatware)

Ok So the problem is really the old version 4.1.2 so I need to wait for the 4.2.2 or Flash with Cynogen ROM FXperia but losing my warranty Can't wait for this update So after this update the system will fly I suppose Yeaaah because , I like Android, I like the XZ , it's the only problem
XZ runs now on 4.1.2 and 3.4 kernel. The 4.2.2 update should also bring a new kernel, 3.6. sony XZ will be the first phone with 3.6 kernel.
4.2.2 together with the 3.6 kernel is way better optimised for the hardware etc in the XZ. 1080p is quite new so nothing is optimized yet, like posted before
Also, I don't have lag in Sony launvher, removed the weather widget, added some tweaks and all is really smooth now

There's something to be said for the power of Apple regarding getting things fixed, android doesn't have that kind of app compliance
Hello guys and thanks for your amazing support and development... I have a question.. I am planning to get LG G PAD 7.0 the WiFi edition (v400).. I guess it's the best in its price in my country.. and I heard that if it came with Lollipop I am no longer able to install TWRP and Flash custom ROMs??? because this is a very important thing for me.. and in general terms.. is it good in performance and everything? thanks a lot in advance
Can someone please answer me?
Kindly press thanks if I helped
Buy the V400?
Hi
I have had the LG G Pad 7.0 for a few months now and can say that it works well. As I no longer root and do all this developer stuff I can't say much when it comes to custom ROMs, though this forum seems awfully quite.
In terms of day to day usage it works well, it has mid range specs so don't expect superb multitasking and performance, for daily activities it works great. By this I mean web browsing, viewing mail, Youtube etc... It has a dual window feature which is very nice even though its limited to stock apps like Chrome, Youtube, File Manager etc... The battery life is superb, although I only use it when I need to and I probably charge it around once a week.
I would advise you to look at other tabs as well because this released in 2014 and I don't think it will get marshmallow, if you want something fast and snappy then avoid this otherwise for light day to day use this is fine. One more thing the 8GB storage gets used up pretty quickly.
Feel free to ask if you have any other concerns.

Thank you so much for replying
I have some questions.. Feel free to answer them whenever you want
1 - Some low price tablets have something called "Ghost touch" which means that sometimes (and in some cases many times) the screen touches by itself and it may become so annoying.. Have you ever faced this issue?
2 - do you prefer having 4.4.2 or 5.0 on this tablet? Have you tried both? And in general how is the software experience?
3 - I am a medical student and my main use if the tablet would be reading PDFs and viewing videos.. I think any tablet can handle that (I actually care about the price more than anything else for now ) .. But my biggest concern is the screen.. how is the screen in general.. Is it bright enough?
4 - you mentioned "no longer root" have you ever tried rooting it and installing a custom ROM?
Again thanks a lot.. It's very nice to finally have someone to talk to about the tablet in this forum
Kindly press thanks if I helped

1) I have never experienced such an issue with this tablet, the screen is responsive-even with a glass screen protector.
2) I (very) briefly tried KitKat and it was more or less the same, just a slightly different themed UI. Lollipop is better, performance wise it felt the same but the material design looks nice. Again I repeat I very briefly used KK.
3) Lol I am a pharmacy student and use the tablet exactly for what you have listed, I view pdf/ebooks on there (incl the large medical physiology & chemistry ones) and also watch videos on YouTube. For the large books there is some lag e.g. when browsing to certain chapters/pages, but it can handle it just about-I use a pdf compressor to compress the pdf books to 'lighten' them. The screen is nice, good viewing angles, fairly bright (I use it on 50%), and colours are fine. This is my first tablet so I have nothing to compare it against.
4) I used to root/install roms, mods, xposed etc... back when I used Sony Xperia devices (the development was super :good, but after that I got an LG phone which had poor development and since then I sort of gave up on it as it took up a lot of time (all that flashing :silly
So if your really into development this tab will probably let you down. Plus side is that it has little features like the display can stay on when your looking at the screen (e.g. when reading), dual window, double tap to wake, clip tray (makes copy and pasting a LOT easier), QuickMemo (useful for note taking-not that I use it, pen and paper all the way :victory and so on...
My advice is that if you can get it cheap then do so otherwise if possible pay a little extra and get a more powerful tab. Down to you in the end...
Thank you very very much.. I now know everything I need about it

Hi guys! anyone playing Vainglory using this tablet? how's the experience. I'm planning to buy this tablet for gaming purpose specially on Vainglory game. Can this tablet handle HD/Intensive games?
No, I wouldn't recommend this tablet for gaming, especially high end games. It is a mid range tab, I have never tried any intensive games but can say that it just about runs temple run, crossy road etc... Anything more would be laggy. It is a great tab for everyday usage but not for heavy gaming. Also I suggest you go for something newer, as this is likely reached end of life.

I have the v410, but i know that theres a v400 tool to downgrade the firmware to the original 4.4.2 so that you can boot bump'd images (Such as TWRP Recovery...) I'll give you the links ... h t t p://aiomobilestuff.com/lg-g-pad-7-v400-stock-firmware-flashing/ (delete the spaces in http)

You're basically on about LG Flash Tool 2014 don't you? It's not for V400 only, it's for most LG Devices.
