So im new to the whole rooting world and I recently rooted my fascinate and I want to install a new kernel and rom on it. Just wondering what you thought was the best out there? Thanks
It really is personal preference. Recommended rom however is DL09. For kernels its your choice, as you might want more battery life or maybe more speed
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz
another one?

What is the worst rom and kernel?
anything from samsung
No matter what ROM or kernel you get, download JuiceDefender to help with battery.
I prefer SuperClean .4 DL09 with Adrynalyn's 12/30 test kernel. Also using Blackmod Enhanced theme.
I kept getting errors while with SNS using Blackhole but overall its pretty good as well.
I have no idea which rom I'm running but i think 0.4...i do know that i'm using adry'ns 12/17 test 2 and my battery life is amazing....
brought to you by a drunk ****
JuiceDefender is garbage. that is all.
Question. After installing ron via cwr. Do you then flash the kernel that is saved on the SD card? Or do you flash kernel then flash rom? I've tried to flash new kernels and know when u reboot it could take a while but I have never heard any women's voice during startup and the screen usually stays black..last try I waited two hours before doing a restore.

And your reasoning for JD being garbage would be?

DL09 is the radio/baseband ?
JD works wonderfully on a GSM device. The reads are way off, but the effect was noticable on my N1. On CDMA..... notsomuch

Let me handle this answer... JD didn't actually save battery life on my phone, and it was cutting off wifi even when I was telling it not to.
By the way, the ROM/kernel combo I settled on is adrynalyn's 1/18 voodoo5 kernel on blackhole's 2.4 ROM. If you decide to use voodoo, I suggest you use a voodoo5 kernel- less headache with having to disable and reenable lagfix every time you flash a ROM. jt1134 also has a voodoo kernel, but if you use it, you need to be on a DJ05 ROM.
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
FYI, this thread belongs in the General section.

Hi all,
Now that overclock has been discovered (even with the lower kernel,) on Evil Eris, how far do you think we are from it being applied to all ROMs? Is there a way to apply it to any ROM?
well if the dev didnt mind stealing the kernel without permission they could put it on any rom they wanted right now.
all that has to be done is swapping out the kernel. im sure that ivan will give his permission to the other devs to use it though, so no worries there
Stole the kernel? I thought HTC released an older build... no 29 yet, I thought this was built off the older release.
Unfortunately, Evil Eris is a hero build with an attempt to get the hero OC working on the eris... that doesn't work right. Porting it to another rom would be pointless until it's figured out how to do it correctly using an eris rom and kernel.
As of right now, there isn't an official release of one.
And I don't know why a few people keep posting about "steeling" something from a ROM. It's all open source, you don't need anyone's permission.
It's only a respect factor to give credit to the dev who made it happen, if you decide to use a certain function they figured out.
OC'ing appears to have been accomplished today on irc.andirc.net #droideris. Ivan pulled it off. All report are that it is faster, and reaches 767mhz.
The Evil Eris kernel is not overclocked, never was.

sorry, didnt mean that they stole the kernel. what i meant was if another dev didnt mind stealing the kernel from ivan then there would be no issue. from what i understand you could just compile a boot image using his kernel and use that for any ROM, but i could be incredibly wrong.

Debating on which of the two to flash. Yes I could try both but being my first ROM flash, any suggestions? Thanks.
Thats a tough one. I've tried both but for some reason I always go back to myn's.
Well myn 2.2 was great, but its 2.2. Give mikg a shot, its amazing!
Swyped from my EVO using XDA app.
MIKG is amazingly fast! i would go with that one and new sense 3.0 is sweet!
I would have to recommend mikg. It's like getting a whole new phone again.
Just be sure to follow the instructions.. especially when it comes to wiping data,ect...
Sent from neither here... nor there.
MikG until Synergy comes out and then we an compare them.
Is there anything specific on flashing this ROM, Kernel, then Radios? I'm pretty much going to follow the mikichannel video guide: http://www.youtube.com/user/themikmikchannel#p/u/0/aLS6MYJ7p0g
No, just wipe everything and flash.
I am/was a Myns/Konis fan (see my sig) until today, decided to flash MikG on a whim.
Holy crap, I won't be going back.
That being said, Myns (and a few other) 2.2 based ROMs are great, btw. Solid, stable, and Very nice to look at.
Hows the battery life on myns and miks?

I just flashed MikG and the recommended Kernel and Radio updates. So far all is working well. Wow. Fast and nice. Now to reload my apps.
I like the black theme on myns worm. The battery life is what you'd expect from a froyo sense ROM.
MikG...Synergy is going to be sweet as well...loaded Syn up yesterday and had to double check what happened...it loaded my apps for me. Myn is working it as well...gives you an idea, but MikG rocks!
If possible, could someone give me a link to download MikG rom. Would be appreciated

D'oh!
...........
So I found NoFrills-AOSP and I downloaded it and so far its pretty nice, but there is like nothing about it anywhere. It looks like the guy took CM7 ripped the CM settings out and added the default launcher which honestly I dont mind at all because its pretty much perfect so far. I really just want to know who made it and to tell them thanks and that it would be great if they started a xda post for it because its an awesome rom.
found a thread on it. http://www.simply-android.com/discu...or-samsung-galaxy-s-vibrant-t959-082720011/p1
Awesome thanks!
The guy is Ngiordano.
He actually started work on CM7 for the Motorola Cliq.
The guy is awesome, anything he does is worth looking at.
And no im not one of his fanboys, i actually worked with him on building CM7 with him for a little
How's the battery life so far?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I have been at work all day so I only broke the phone out once during lunch so it has been going 19 hours so far with 65% battery left. So ya its pretty rockin on standby at least. Also extra sd card does not work which is kinda annoying and if anyone knows how to fix it please let me know!
holy hell, this thing is nice.
EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Just an AOSP 2.3.5 build for our phone.
This ROM has the GB bootloader/emmc mounting problem. Any word on if the dev is going to include the CM7 fix?
He said he's going to look into the problem today.

The camera needs some work.
If you have an FFC (like I do), to enable it don't forget to download the latest galaxysmtd build here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxysmtd
pull out /system/lib/libcamera.so
and then copy over the libcamera.so file as here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14464862&postcount=3365
Right now i'm seeing banding in the HD video and 4 of me in the FFC, but that seems to be the same problems going on in the CM7 thread, so who knows if/when that'll get fixed.
I heard 135 hours on the battery life
^ you heard bull****.
also screenshots please? but by the talks of it since its AOSP, the good ol' regular no themed GB right?

I flashed this ROM and unfortunately did not ODIN the bootloader first, and now my phone is stuck in a perpetual boot screen. I can't seem to get back to Recovery or anything. Anyone else happen to do this or have a way to get back to Recovery?
Thanks

Whats diff about that from regular mIUi? Does everything work GPS, ect ect
It's just a recent MIUI build. The old MIUI thread isn't really relevant, and only so because of Swiper's build(s) discussions outside of his own thread.
Pair the latest stable with Tiamat 3.3.7 and it's as good as you can get.
The goods are working; GPS, MMS etc etc
Check it.
I used 2.3.2 with Tiamat 4.1.0 but yeah, what he said
But there is really no change from regular MIUI ? I had issues with the latest MIUI in that I could not answer calls...I would get FC everytime LoL Can someone link me to the MIUI you guys are using thru XDA not another forum...
Dude, it's in the dev section. Miui 2.3.2 GB. Use the es version

Yes, the last MIUI.us release had problems with dialer. It was well posted about in many places.

Each person has their own opinion, but I would recommend you try pershoot's CM10 builds.
Agreed. Tho, im behind sched Seeing how the last build was november, i just flashed the most recent (and last) cm10 rom and everything went smooooth. I havent noticed a bug yet and its super fast and it looks amazing. Make sure if u flash this rom you flash the google apps too so you can get the play store.

Sounds like you are using an old cm10 release as both cameras have been working in cm10 for a while now.
I'd suggest getting the latest nightly from download.cyanogenmod.org.
These latest releases also have the joys of OTA updates under settings -> about tablet - which makes future updates much easier
