Im trying to restore a copy of my droid x system from this AM.
but as its copying the Data portion, i get into a file that it hangs on part of "casino" a .jpg, causes the whole thing to lock up and stop responding.
Anyway I can fix this backup? I have another backup but it restores the whole data section in 2 minutes...it doesnt seem to work either (((( Help!

my backup was cut short due to lack of space on the SD card and CWM didnt notify me

Do you have any other backups you can restore to? I would recommend taking a backup of where you are at right now, even though you obviously want to restore to an earlier point.
If all of your backups are having the same issue, you may have a corrupt SDcard or a corrupt file that is sitting in your /data partition. This is not a definite, so don't freak out, but if you see the same result with many/all backups, I would look into this.
If you can deal with wiping your /data partition... I would take a backup of your current setup, then wipe /data... Then try restoring that backup... If it works, then I would be inclined to believe that one jpeg file may be corrupt, and is causing problems for any backup that has that file in there...
This is just a speculation from the info you have provided and around 6 years of IT work....
EDIT: NEVERMIND! It looks like you posted again while I was typing up my guess, looks like I was off! LoL
yea i was basically able to salvage most of it between the system of one, with the data of another. so im about 75% back to where i was.
obviously i need to either a: keep less stuff on my SD card, or B: use my spare 2gb card for backups...
One thing you may want to try if you are running out of space from lots of Clocwork backups...
Create a folder on your PC/Mac and copy off the folders in the yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm format and copy your backups from your SDcard onto your computer. Then you could delete them off of your sdcard. When I started making a lot of backups I was running out of room and copied some off. Then I deleted them off my sdcard. I have tested moving them back on, and restoring one that was on my PC, and didn't have any issues!

I made a nanroid backup under the assumption that it backed up everything. (including files on SD) is this a correct to assume?
After parting the sd card for App2sd I discovered my photos were gone. I went to run recovery and recovered but no picture files...
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. It wiped out all my other backups that were stored on SD.

Its not good to assume. Lesson learned.... Partitioning, not parting, will erase EVERYthing on what you are partitioning. Sorry bro, they are gone. Im not sure if a partition will overwrite the old data, or just delete the record of it. If it's the latter of the two i would get that SD card into a disk utility program asap. Every time something new is written to the card though the less likely you are to get any of the data back.
So now you know...
1. nandroid only backs up the phone itself.
2. you should backup your sd card to your computer
3. dont assume
and last but not least...
4. if you have never done anything like this, make sure you read ALL the steps first...
Oh boy. Yes those are gone. Nandroid only backs up the phone image to the sd card, not the phone image + the sd card itself. Formatting erases everything like he said. Assumptions are always good to make.

This is probably a really dumb question but how do I use the backups I've created?
When I flash a ROM that I don't like and I try to restore to an earlier backup I've created it is not working. It either says something about the MD5sum or just aborts in general...
What process do I take in order to restore the phone to an earlier backup?
And better yet, if I install a new ROM and don't want to go through the process of installing all my apps again is there a way to just restore my files from a backup?
You can do an advanced restore and restore only data to get your apps, etc. back. There is also titanium backup that is great for backing up and restoring between roms (the only way to restore apps when using a different rom... restore data from one rom onto another can cause serious issues).
If you're getting MD5 sum errors, the backups are being corrupted. So unless your messing with them on your sdcard, then there may be some bad areas on that sdcard and it might be time for a new one.

Wait so in order to keep my apps I can go to advanced restore and restore only data but it could cause serious issues? So basically it is possible but risky?
and normally should my restore points flash just like a rom when I go to "Restore"? do I need to wipe everything before I restore?
I did copy and paste them onto my computer so I had them in two places... maybe that corrupted them. Anyways a new, bigger, faster SD card is in the mail so that's kind of a coincidence.
a restore in clockwork is an image restore, so everything in that partition will be wiped anyways.
So I am not even a week into rooting my Evo and flashing roms and I am not sure what the best way to organize my backups are.
What do you guys do to manage all the nandroids and app backups in Titanium?
Here is my situation, I have my nandroids from right after rooting and a few from doing the two updates that CM7 had. I first did a nandroid or two using CWM, I then flashed recovery to Amon_Ra and did nandroids in their also. I also had all my apps backed up using TB post-root (sense) and now that I am on CM7 I have many different apps that I have added. I have read some people say not to backup apps from 2.2 on sense to CM7, though the few that I have done work fine.
Should I delete all the backups in TB from my stock 2.2 w sense? Can I rename my RA nandroid backup files so that I can label them better to know what they are? Or should I just move them to my computer and put them in a folder named what they are and leave the file name alone? Can I move the backup folder from TB onto my computer that has my sense backups to save for a rainy day?
I can see this getting very messy and confusing if I do not get a handle on all these backup files. Just wondering if someone has a good system for keeping track of these and when to get rid of nandroids and app backups.

i just created folders named clock and amon ra on my computer, and inside those folders i created folders with the names of the roms i flashed with each recovery and then i moved the nandroid files from my sd card into the computer folders that corresponded, and i only left my last working backup on my phone
- clear your TB and start fresh. i would advise against trying to criss cross your Sense/AOSP backups. it may work but i'd consider it a fluke not the rule.
- you cannot restore a RA nandroid with CWM nandroid and viseversa. so whichever one you think you'll stick with...you can get rid of the others.
- yes, you can rename the nandriod folder. no spaces. very handy once you get a few nandroids going.
- i use SyncToy from Microsoft to copy all the sdcard data onto my pc. this way i can protect my nandroids, pics, vids, mp3, misc crap.
i normally leave one or two nandriods on my device (i have had a bad nandroid in the past) and zip of the current rom.
as for the deletion policy..that depends on your level of paranoia and amount of available diskspace and time.

Thanks, I like the idea of clearing out TB (I just did it) I was just worried removing the files would somehow mess up the TB app.
Sticking with Amon RA and I knew about not being able to use nandroids from different recoveries.
I will checkout synctoy, sounds cool, I already have three folders of my entire SD card that I made during my rooting process and changing recovery process. I hate it, I don't know what I need to keep from them.

I have a rather urgent issue, in which a factory reset wiped my sdcard. First of all, is that normal? This is my first device with no external microsd, and my first time using TWRP. Before, I had been using various versions of Amon-Ra or CWM, and when I factory reset they never wiped the sd card. Next, whether it was normal or not, I need a way to recover my data. I had around 8 gigs in sdcard before it got wiped.
To give you more background info on what was going on, I had a rooted 4.1.2 16GB Nexus, and I decided that I wanted to try PA. I made a nandroid backup of course, and then proceeded to flash the rom. I followed the instructions on the PA thread, first doing a factory reset followed up by the actual flashing, then a wipe of cache/davlik. After I tried the rom out for a few minutes, I noticed that there weren't any redeeming features to make it worth the time-consuming switch from stock to PA, transferring all my data and setting up my settings once more.
I rebooted back into recovery and factory reset again, and then I went to restore and saw that there were no backups. Suspicious, I went to the install menu, and found my entire sdcard folder had been wiped out. What happened?
Edit: I'm currently still on the recovery, afraid to do anything in case I lose my data forever.
Was your boot loader already unlocked or did you unlock it right before you flashed the ROM?

Thanks for the reply, especially on Christmas, but I got around the issue myself. It had been unlocked for 2 months now.
I noticed that every time I booted into recovery, it would make a "0" folder and move the contents of my sdcard into that "0" folder. Then the 0 folder would go inside another 0 folder, and so on and so forth. It was a really strange issue because I was unable to restore my backup; TWRP could not find my /sdcard/TWRP/backup folder, because it did not exist! It was in sdcard/0/0/TWRP/backup. I used the built in file manager in TWRP, and moved the contents back into the proper folder. I could then restore, and now I'm feeling relieved.
However, two issues remain; the 0 folders are still there, and storage transfer speeds seem very slow.
Edit: I got rid of the 0 folders by moving my folders out of them and then deleting the 0 folders, but the size of my files seem to have been inflated. What took up 6 gigs before is now taking up 8.8gb. Lol wut? Also, when I hook it up to a computer it tells me that 12GB has been filled. So many discrepancies.

I am having the same problem. I think everybody has that problem, because it's caused by jelly bean 4.2 and its new emulated storage.
The only way I have found to get arround it was to copy all files on the computer from the sdcard, then formating the sdcard in recouvery and moving everything back.
Only problem I am having right now is that I can't for the love of it copy my files. Stupid MTP filesystem is really buggy and extremly slow. I constantly crashes or gives me multiple erros. The one I am having at the moment is something about a parameter error.
Very annoying the stupid filesystem under 4.2.
Btw. I can't get the adb pull command to work either. When I tell it to copy system/storage/emulated/legacy (I believe thats where the sdcard is actually loccated, right?!) it doesn't copy a single file.
If anybody could help me I would be very greatfull.

I had the same fear, emotion and discovery a week ago when trying a new Rom thanks multi users feature .
You may try to switch from MTP mode to MSC in system setting to increase the speed.
Take care of the different tools because as example JROMFlasher will format the SD card for better cleaning. (I had backup!)
I think I read that the Factory Reset from the settings menu WILL erase everything.
Formatting with ClockworkMod, saves your sdcard files.
I also recommend unlocking asap just for laughs. Even if you don't plan on rooting or Modding... unlocking will ensure your files won't be deleted if you decide to or something happens that requires it

So, my question is, how to clear this used space? I checked in the nandroid backup folder and found absolutely nothing there, so it must be somewhere else... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

Just as you said, it must be somewhere. Check other folders or even the rood of the virtual SD card. If you still don't find anything you may have to factory reset the device and wipe the SD card partition. Before you jump the gun though, make sure (assuming you're using windows as your PC OS, show hidden folders.
Did you check of have a Clockworkmod folder? Each time you create a backup, it creates a new folder with a new time stamp.
Use a file manager to delete the unnecessary or aborted backups. The backup folder should be visible with having to use an app such as Root Explorer.
