Hi all,
I don't know if this has been asked before, but I have done a search and haven't found the answer...If it has been answered, kindly direct me to the proper link.
Anyways, I have ATT and I was wondering if it was possible to install the stock ATT IM app onto cyanogenmod. The reason I ask is that with the stock ATT IM app, data isn't used; only text messages.
I have tried installing the IM.apk from the stock ROM but it says application not installed...
Thanks for your time!

It's probably part of Sense which is proprietary.
This app never worked for me... even before I rooted/just got the phone. Lol
It would load forever... and end up doing nothing.

Yup. Same here lol...even on wifi...
I used to use it on the stock ATT Rom, and the reason why it wasn't working was because you WERE on wifi. It uses data to connect and send messages (but it counts as text messages). So when you are on wifi, your data is actually not sending. As a result, you can't use it (I know, it's stupid).
This is the reason why I want this on CM6. It allows me to IM and it only uses text messages

mms is not yet available on sprint. in the future, you can use the search button located on the top right of this page.
there is, but since you're lazy about it maybe you should try kngtut79's advice and try searching.
you can use dashwire. I am on Bell CDMA in Canada and it allows you to send a sms to your contacts as a link to the picture which is the closest I have come to so far. Hope that helps www.dashwire.com

Not without data

Verizon MMS requires data usage to send or recieve pictures and video. I am specifically looking for a program to send and recieve MMS messages without using data. The program linked above, called sMMS, does it without using data.

This will not work for you then, it still uses data, and you need the Sprint Picture Messaging, which is of course not available for VZW users.
Verizon charges you for a MMS like it's a SMS. If not it's $0.20/msg, the package for, I believe, 250 SMS is $5/mo.

I have unlimited texting, but was told that smartphones on Verizon don't use MMS, instead they use data somehow.

I`ve been trying for a couple weeks now to get MMS working on my Touch. I got a thread going but no luck in fixing it. I came across this today though http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35616. I called Alltel after I changed the setting, but the MMS network happened to be down at the time, so I don`t know if the setting work since nobody could send any at the time. The representative talked to the advance service tech and googled it as well, but neither could figure it out. I`m gonna call back tonight ( they said the network should be up by then) on a different phone to see if they can diagnose it. It kinda sounds like a problem with flashing roms. I know it worked for me before I started flashing, but it also happens even when you flash to an official alltel rom with a locked phone as in the case with my brother`s touch. When I upgraded his radio his stopped working. Perhaps its a network problem, hell I read that Sprint took it away from there users.
Well i have tried almost every single release that ivanmmj has made for this phone, they are so sexy and work well except the issue with the mms, even after installing ArcSoft_MMS_Composer_WWE cab the mms feature doesn't work, sms works fine but not mms.
these are the ones i have tried Ivan.
JustHacked14v3 - LZX Wing Edition.7z
JustHacked14 - Wing.7z
14v7-wing.7z
but no luck on the mms thing.
The MMS should work automatically after you use the autoconfig. Arcsoft is already built in. Have you let the autoconfig configure the phone then attempted to recieve MMS without adding anything?

Are you not receiving the actual pictures? Is it not receiving anything at all?
I switched to an older version of mms for 14.7. So far, everyone is telling me that it works fine.
Also, please try to keep talk of ROMs within the ROM threads themselves. I'm very active in that thread. I can't help fix things when I don't see people complain about them. Luckily, I happened to look outside my thread.

What do you mean? Like the bar on the top of JustStable? The white bar going across the top that shows you the battery status.
I still don't know why only you are having problems with the MMS. Where are you located?
never mind about the battery thing, my mistake i reflashed it and it works now. Im in New Jersey.

So my ROM's build in network wizard isn't working. Another network wizard isn't working. I'm gonna have to put my sim card on my wing and see if I receive anything, either.
Has anything else happened with this lately?
I recently began installing ROMs myself, and yours were the ones I chose.
Since I first installed your micro rom, no MMS >.< No matter what.
Is this the case for everyone running them on the Wing?
I'm going batty.
i keep getting this blank text message which has what looks like either my sim or storage card icon next to it. the contact or sender is "129(1)".i dont know if i am missing texts or if this is some weird glitch.
anyone know what this is?
ive attached a screenshot of my messages so you can see.
thanks,

Visual voice mail receives its updates via sms, if the app is installed it will intercept these and you will never see them ...
If you have VVM setup and no longer have the app on the phone due to a custom rom then you will see these messages ...
Easiest thing to do is grab the VVM cab and re-install it ...

thats certainly very interesting. thank you for that however, wouldnt i need to have gotten a voicemail in order for this situation to occur, if we follow your logic?
i have not hasd a voicemail in quite a few days now. iis this a recurring ping via sms or must it be triggered by an actual voicemail?
thanks a lot,

Yes I do believe it is sort of a "Keep Alive" sort of thing and it may also be a trigger to tell the VVM app to check , or for it to send any changes you have made to the settings ...
i set up vvm, still getting this annoying text. surely i am not the only person to ever get this and surely it must be something?
anyone?
jason
i have gotten these too, ever since i switched to custom roms..... but i've learned to just live with it.... still hoping for a solution though
Weird, I got them Until I setup VVM app, then they went away ...
i get the same thing, almost on a daily basis! i've set up vvm but it still sends me these txt... and for some reason i also get previous txts from my gf with the sim icon next to it as well.
I get them every now and then. I have the stock ROM and did not set up VVM. I learned to ignore them. I don't even delete them anymore.
Hello all. I have an Htc evo on the boost network. Everything works well. The problem is the mms messaging. When I get an incoming mms message it goes to this website for.boost mobile called media mail. I have to log into the site to get my pictures...its really annoying. I just had an Htc hero flashed the same way and it gets true mms messages right to the phone. Is there a way to fix the boost media mail issue so that the mms messages go diregctly to my Evo?

i have evo on boost and had the same problem. what i did was use root explorer and deleated mms apk and mms odex from system/app, then download go sms from the market, copy that from data/app to system/app and my mms works perfect now. i would suggest downloading android mate from the market, use this to stop and locate the name and where the app is at on your phone before going into root explorer. ps google free root explorer. after placing go sms in your system/ app folder download handcent from market. this is going to be the mms. app that you are going to use to veiw the mms on your phone, turn off all notifications in go sms so that you don't try to open with go sms.
you may need the right apn...i sent them to my friend and it fixed his problems using apn backup/restore
Can you email me your apn because I have calls and sms working but no data or mms please help! Email me at [email protected]

I believe the MMS server is "mm.myboostmobile.com". The other poster had it as "mm.myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com" I couldn't send or receive until I changed it and it worked right away after I changed the server.
I have changed the server to http://mm.myboostmobile yada yada and still am not able to send MMS. I have received them and data is working, just need the ability to send. Any ideas?
I am on the 1/11/2012 Energy rom with Sense 3.5
That ROM does not have EPST capability. Are you certain you changed the MMS server?
Did you change it on that ROM or did you changed it once and then flashed to that rom? Reason I'm asking is because just because you changed it once doesn't mean it sticks after you flash a few roms or whatever.
If you want to stick with a Sense 3.5 rom and want to send MMS, the only way I've found that would work short of editing code in the Mms.apk (pretty freaking hard and takes some time) is to download GOSMS Pro (free app in the market).
Once you download that app, go to your regular messaging app settings and disable notifications on it. (if not, you'll get double notifications and that gets annoying)
After that, find this setting in GoSMS Pro...
Once you do that, scroll down and put in these settings....reboot and that's it!!
Yep, that's why I asked. It's the only way I know of also on 3.5 Sense Roms. So if you flashed that ROM the MMS server is set for Sprint NOT Boost.

Yeah is been a while since I've been on sense roms BUT last time I was on sense it was a sense 3.5 rom and it was ported over from a GSM phone so it didn't have EPST working. I don't know if that's the case NOW but the way I provided above is a sure bet with ANY rom out there for boost users!
I've heard of people using an old EPST.apk from sense 1.0 or whatever but that's a 50/50.....it never worked for me, hints the reason I'm on AOSP roms now!
Any more tips or whatever for boost...hit me up through PM!!

well, so far so good, I guess I have to use go sms for text/mms if I want to use Sense 3.5.
What are some better rom options? I like this one because most of the features work, didn't discover this until recently and HDMI isn't working but that is about it.

Correct one is http://mm.myboostmobile.com - worked for me great both ways with sense rom and gosmspro on boost mobile.
I have the same issue...
I was running Cyanogen 7 for about 8 months with now issues, everything worked flawlessly, till I flash Stock Rooted Rom 3.30.651.3-deodex-20110712-signed.zip...I just wanted to try something new, you know...well, it didn't go as planned. For some reason my phone got Verizon NAMs files or NV items somehow... or I really didn't pay attention to the ROM...but I have never used Verizon before so that was weird...so I flashed back to 4.54.651.1-deodex-20120104-signed and everything was working just fine after that except battery wasn't that stable...remember I wanted to try something new so I wanted the newest Rooted Stock Rom, so I flashed the 3.30.651.3-deodex-20110712-signed ROM again...everything worked as planned for a day and some, but today I get MSM errors...
"SMS Error
SMS Error: Message to not sent, Saved in Undelivered messages.
Please try again."
I cant get the EPST ##3282# to come up...whats up with that?...so I cant configure MMS URL to http//:mm.myboostmobile.com
Everything else is working just fine though.
This is what I got right now:
Android Ver: 2.3.5

Kernel Ver: 2.6.35.10-g4b48446
Sftware/Build #: 4.67.651.3

I haven't tried it but if it's VZW related I will not put it on my device, I don't trust them.
I have used it on my PC.
When you first run it, it takes a while to download the last 3 months worth of text messages to/from your account....
...which in itself is scary....
I used it as my primary Texting App because it makes it effortless to sync across to my Tablet, and also allow texting from my Tablet. I don't trust Verizon either, but this is a dang good program. Put it on my spouses phone and tablet as well. Plus, I flash my phone(s) often and this actually syncs all SMS and MMS.

I also figured out today that somehow, this app running on a PC shows when some other parties are typing. I suspect it's when the other party is using the messages app vs. the stock SMS app. The friend that I was chatting with earlier when I spotted this is coming over shortly, so I'll see whether she's using the stock messaging app, or "Verizon Messages".

Thank you for the link. I was unaware that this even existed! Downloading it now to play with it - whoot!
So my friend is using an S5 with the Messages+ app set as default SMS app on her phone. They must've done that from the factory?
I'm willing to bet this is in preparation for the move to VoLTE. (The messges+ app uses the internet to send messages vs. SMS messaging which is carried on the 1x network)
