I've got 2e going and have darkys renamed as unzip. Starts off fine, the screen reads FINDING UPDATE PACKAGE, OPENING UPDATE PACKAGE, INSTALLING UPDATE but then I get INSTALLATION ABORTED quickly...
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I can't easily find an answer through searching the forums.
Thanks for any input.
You need to use 2e to enter clockworkmod recovery (this is installed via the free app "rom manager" available on the market). From clockwork, you choose the darky .zip file to install...
I've already tried that and get the same outcome.
Thanks for your input though.

Restore zip to its original name, then "choose zip from sdcard"

Ok guys, not sure if this should be in General or in here...
I am very new to Android but I'm loving it so far. I have my Epic rooted and I have the clockworkmod installed. I have download Tha Boss Rom V.02 to try out as my first ROM.
I just a few questions?
I have the ROM on my sd card and I renamed to update.zip(not sure if I needed to do that)... I then open up clockwork and hit update ROM from SD Card, point it at the update.zip.
It reboot and goes into the Android system recovery screen and starts to install the package. It gets to Verifying update package and stops and say:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
What am I doing wrong. Do I just have a bad file and maybe redownload it? I think I may try Andromeda Galaxy v1.0.3 next just to see if it's a file issue...
Thanks if you took the time to read this.

Boot ypur phnoe into clockwork recovery (vol. down + camera + power) then select "install zip from SDcard". then "choose zip from SDcard" then select the update.zip file.

it seems like you guys dont have clockmod installed correctly. are you guys doing the one click method for root and clockmod? do any rooted apps work? dl rom manager from the market. use that to install the newest clockmod recovery. make sure you selet the samsung epic. use rom manger to boot into recovery? it should be green not blue
I was having a similar problem booting to cwm from rom manager. Rooted with one click 2.2.4 then one click clockwork final then installed rom manager. RM would not boot into cwm. Dled and flashed cwm from inside RM and still didn't work. I could get to it via the 3 button method. Next I flashed Mixup kernel and still had the same issue. Went back into RM and clicked DL Clockwork again and it instantly says its successful and now I can boot into cwm from RM.
Could somebody please make (or HAS somebody made) a guide that addresses the following two scenarios? I think it would go a LONG way towards encouraging others to experiment with the ROMs that are available now
1. My phone's rooted. I want to experiment and try out the available ROMs... but first, I want my phone backed up verbatim, so I can put everything back the way it was if things don't work out. What do I need to do?
2. I had fun trying out other ROMs, but for now I just want to put everything back the way it was before I started. I followed the instructions for #1. What do I need to do NOW?
Ok all this what I found was my problem. I believe it was Windows 7 64 bit. I tried to get clockworkmod running on my work machine that is windows 7 32bit and it worked like a champ. I actually decided to start from scratch and unrooted my phone, reapplied the DI07 update then rooted again, did the clockworkmod first try... then I did the last try.bat and rebooted and that seemed to work. I am doing a ROM back as I type this.
There is a good thread on it in the Epic Android Development forum called:
[TUTORIAL] Updating to DI07, Obtaining Root, and Flashing Custom Recovery [FIX]
I'd post a link, but I am a new user... and so no links in post
Hope this helps everyone.
Can someone post a link? I did use search, turned up a million (yes, I am exaggerating) threads but can't find this one.
Thanks.

OK so I have read, read, and read some more until I think I have totally confused myself to the point of beating my head on a table. Heres my deal. I have done the z4root on my fascinate, downloaded titanium backup and ROM manager. I have used the wireless tether and all that so I know I am rooted, also get the superuser request before launching things. Now... I would like to install the Super Clean ROM on my phone. When I go into ROM manager, I did the clockwork backup and it asked which phone I had, Fascinate and everything went ok. Then I did a backup, and it rebooted. Now I downloaded the ROM and picked what I wanted from the menu. Then it rebooted and would not install. I have a MAC if that means anything, and havent downloaded anything to my MAC bc I didnt see where I needed to? My ? is WTF do I have to do to make this work? I guess I need like an elementary explanation. Im pissed enough to just get rid of it honestly, and Im sure its something basic Im missing. PLEASE HELP!!!
Sounds to me like you dont have the cwmrecovery kernel installed. Need to use the thread that is stickied for how to root and install cwm.. download cwmrecovery.tar and flash in odin. Then you can reboot into recovery and apply update.zip to get into cwm and flash from there.
So, basically, you need to check out the stickied thread about how to root and install cwm. Make sure drivers for fascinate are installed on your computer. You can download from one of the stickied threads that lists the links to download and install fascinate drivers. Then download Odin and the proper .tar files to use in odin. Flash the cwmrecovery kernel from odin. Then reboot and use rom manager to reboot into cwmrecovery. If you done everything correctly, you'll see cwm come up with it's options. Use "install .zip from sdcard," then navigate to your rom .zip file and choose to flash.

If you haven't used redbend_ua to flash the clockwork recovery kernel, then clockwork isn't installed yet and you won't be able to install ROMs.
Good evening,
I am stuck and don't know what I should do next. I've tried reading through the topics on here, and also talking with people in IRC but no one can give me product specific help on the Droid 2. I was rooted, but hadn't updated to 2.3.20 yet, and was getting bugged daily about it. So I decided to try to flash my phone back to stock, so that I could do the OTA and update. Well, I did all of that (I think), and then did the OTA and rooted, and installing roms didn't work. So I then flashed with the most recent stock .SBF 2.3.20. I think it worked, my System Ver is "Version.2.3.20.A955.Verizon.en.US". I installed Rom Manager, and installed ClockworkMod. I have the ROM .zip file on my SD, but when I go to recovery mode, and click apply sd:update.zip. I get verification errors. I have version <e3> recovery. I was told I need <e2> recovery, so that it wouldn't verify and I would get pass that part.
I am honestly stuck. I don't know what to do. I don't know if I have the wrong version on my phone, or what?
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
What rom are you trying to install? And what clockworkmod app are you using? You want d2 bootstrap. You will not use the "install update.zip" option to install your rom. You select "select zip from sd card" and browse to find your rom file. All this info is in here, mostly in the stickies. There are probably good directions in the thread for the rom you are trying to install as well.

Thanks for the reply man, I am sitting here pulling my hair out.
I'd like to install GummyJAR. I am using Rom Manager app to install ClockwordMod Recovery. When I select the option "Install Rom from SD Card" in Rom Manager app, it just reboots the phone, and nothing happens. I have looked through the stickies, and looked in the thread of the Rom and still have troubles. I don't know what I am doing wrong, lol.
You need to run koush's bootstrap in order for clockwork to actually work. Right now your clockwork doesn't have the workaround needed on the D2.

Thanks newk8600. I figured it out finally, that was my main problem. But Koush booted me in the right Recovery Mode and I was able to install the ROM successfully.
Thanks again!

I'm trying to root my Continuum, but I'm having a ridiculous amount of trouble.
I'm new to the android scene, and this is my first smartphone.
I was researching how to root it, and I decided I want to flash CMW on it.
I was using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072 for help, as well as http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-continuum/
I downloaded Odin, PDA'd the tar.md5 recovery, flashed it, and then put the update-i400.zip on my sdcard. I restarted my phone in recovery mode, and I was trying to install the update-i400.zip, and it won't let me. I've done both the tar.md5 and adryn's test4.tar, as well as renaming the .zip just 'update'
I'm lost, and need some help, please. I would've posted this in the development section, but being a noob, it won't let me. If anyone can help, that'd just be great.
Are you rooted? You have to have root access before you can do that stuff I believe, I could be wrong though.
No, i'm attempting to root, but I'm so dang lost.
Here you go sir
http://youtu.be/J1MD7GX7Pyw
i hope this helps.
video is about how to use superoneclick
by the way i used superoneclick 1.7 just because it worked with me and its the only one i trust. but thats just me.
good luck
bye the way you can check if you are rooted using terminal emulator from the android market
yes super one click worked for me select universal mode then rage against the cage and then hit root it might hang for a minute but it should reboot then check to see if theres an app called super user. once you see that your rooted.
Use the files found in my last post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072&page=4
Those are confirmed working.

I tried those, but to no avail. I'm gonna try SOC.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
I used SOC and after phone rebooted no SU app so did again (as per instr. on xda) rebooted and SU installed. Also for CwM Ive had best luck using odin3 1.3, adryns test4 tar, cwm 2.5 update zip, but I still had to use menu softkey to apply zip. Right now I can use rom manager app to boot into cwm, it says 2.5.1 but it has red text?
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum
You can flash the Odin ROM without root. That will root and install the proper kernel for you... then use CWM to flash whatever ROM you want to use.
Or you can flash the complete odin package for 2.2 thats on the Continuum Development section.
Which will also make your device rooted

You don't want to rename the rom zip. You have to use the Cyan CWM update.zip, which is here: http://www.4shared.com/file/cLdwKNsU/update.html
I don't know if the other links posted are for the same file, but that's the one that works with Froyo.
You must have the cwm update.zip on your flash card. When you start up in recovery, you'll need to select apply update.zip. Use the volume rocker to highlight update.zip, and tap the menu soft-key to select. Once in CWM, the power button is select, and the back soft-key is back. You'll want to select the menu option to install zip from sd card, select zip to install, and browse to where you saved the rom file.
If all else fails, I'll be uploading a super-clean debinged ROM in the next few days. Once it's up, just flash via Odin as you did with adrynalyn's cwm recovery image.
hey guys
Need some help for my Dell Streak 5
I tried installing custom rom but it gave error that signature not found
So then I installed Rom manager from ClockWorkMod
It asked for root
So then I installed Superuser
But some how it dosen't seem to work
Where am I getting it wrong?
I am completly noob in android now
What recovery are you using? Sounds like CWM. There's an option within CWM recovery to toggle signature verification. That should turn it off and let you install whatever ROM you want. Also, ROM manager is known to not work with the Streak. Not sure if that's changed with the latest versions of CWM for the Streak.

Thanks for suggestion
But I have problem using guide
Because I am trapped in loop
CWM wants me to be root and I can't be root
because when I try to flash Superuser.zip as update.zip
it's giving error signature not recognized
so without root I can't use cwm and without cwm I unable to root the phone
:crying:
You need to read and follow the advice given to you in this thread earlier by Edrill.
In Clockworkmod 6.0.1.2:
1. Select "Apply update from .zip file on SD card".
2. Select "toggle signature verification" and make sure the bottom of the screen says "Signature Check: Disabled".
3. Select Superuser.zip and flash it.
Your device, for whatever reason, has the signature check function enabled. As long as it is enabled you will not be able to install unsigned zips, like Superuser.zip apparently is. So disable it!
All my zips are signed and the signatures are valid.
His version is either modified or corrupt, he never stated where he got it from.
He also stated he's using rom manager, so there's likely other issues beyond that.

the cwm most probably not from here... and using rom manager that was never meant for streak makes it even worse ... maybe he is on stock rom 2.2.x ...
