ZIP in command line... - Legend General

Ok... I know that a rooted phone uses busybody for most of the command line tools... and busybox has unzip, gunzip, bzip2, etc.... but busybox doesn't support creating zip files
is there any program, or source i could cross compile, so i can zip things up using the command line interface?
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

You can find it in my ROM for instance. Or MetaMorph apk.
Sent from my HTC Legend

You can make tarballs.

I would just use another type of compression utility, but what I'm trying to do is modify apks and that's zip specific...
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

Ninjamorph and metamorph might come in handy, and signapktic is another useful one

Ok cool, thanks guys!

Only the 1.5 version of the HTC_IME keyboard works with the 2.2 ROM. Unfortunately, the voice input does not work since it is only the 1.5 version. This is the version that works.

There are two .apk to install and both are in the zip file... with the time spent posting that question you could have just opened it and found out what was inside
I use ShapeWriter and it works perfectly.

@derekwilkinson - i dont think it was necessary for you to get smart all i did was ask a simple question b/c i didnt know. being the smart ass you seem to be you should have realized i didnt know i was supposed to unzip it until i realized the flash failed and said it wasnt working !
Use a file explorer like Astro to open the .zip. You should get an option to open with app manager (or something along those lines ha ha) and you should be able to install.

pushing necessary lib files will enable farther versions of the IME keyboard to work, you still dont get voice recognition to work but the keyboard is there.

EVERY linux based download has a MD5SUM. Which verifies the download isn't corrupt.
What you need to do is download the ROM to the SDcard's root directory. Then from either the ADB command prompt or Terminal Emulator type
Code:
# md5sum /mnt/sdcard/<rom_name>.zip
that will kick out a code and then verify that against the source you downloaded it from.

Gingerblur help?

How do we port gingerblur since its a backup?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Use CWM and install it as a naindroid backup. Still have to wipe and such. Put the zip file somewhere on your computer and unzip it. Then it goes into clockwork on your sdcard and in the folder backup. The folder you want if you look closley at it is really a date. that's what goes into the folder backup. Then install it like you were going back and installing a backup. Need more help just ask.
Is that OK for the defy rom?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
To my knowledge it's not a Defy rom but one for Bravo. It may work on Defy but I don't know if it will or not. I don't even know where the actual rom is that the backup came from. I did try it for about three days but I didn't really click with it. A little too.......underdeveloped?...no....Just too basic for me. I like to mod, and mod, and mod some more. I can't do modding with this one the way I like to. Always have to do a CWM update to mod since I don't have it as a real rom. That help you out any? There's got to be some kind of program or an app that'll take nandroid backups and make them into rom but I woulden't even try to run them on my slooooow a$$ computer.
Well there is a ginger blur ROM in the defy section and I wanted to use it on my bravo but it's a nandroid.

Download unyaffs
Put in any folder on windows computer
Then put system.img in same folder
Turn on windows control prompt
Change directory to folder unyaffs is in. (if you check the properties of any file you will see the path to change it to...you can even copy and paste into terminal)
cd \paste path
Then type
unyaffs system.img

I got the ms2ginger 2.1 to load and everything is good except when I try to change files for the camera to work it gets stuck at the m logo. Not sure why though... but other than that the rom is amazing. If anybody can help me get the camera at least partially working please do.

How do you change keyboards from rom

I currently have the android revolution Rom and want to get rid of the arrow keys on the bottom of the keyboard.
So I'm guessing I would have to replace the keyboard completly

As far as I know that is true unless the keyboard has configuration options, or plugins of some sort.
Nope there is no settings and yeah I don't use the arrows at all just takes up space for me

My favorite is the swype beta, which available for free if you register for it at http://beta.swype.com
Good Luck!
I understand that the easy way out but I like the stock keyboard was looking for someone to tell me how to swap out the keyboard or flash another or something
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
I thought RC tweaks had an option for turning the arrows off?
I looked all over rc Tweaks and didnt see anything about it

If u wanna swap out a keyboard from a different rom just take out the apk and replace it.

Ok thanks and its just a simple cut and paste? Do I have to reflash it with the Rom? Also where would that be located?

Do not proceed if you have no idea what you're doing! i'm not responsible for whatever happens to your device by following this guide.
Method 1. use a file explorer that has access to the system like root explorer.
make sure you have rw access first
copy the file to /system/app
set permissions to rw r r
reboot
Method 2. use androidSDK/adb
move the file to location of adb i.e C:/androidsdk/platform-tools
connect phone to computer
open command window
type in the following:
Code:
adb devices
adb push location-of-your-file /system/app
adb reboot
you made need to set permissions for it to work
to do that:
adb shell
su
chmod 777 /system/app/name-of-file
reboot
both these methods require su and root!
Can you also add a keyboard as a 2nd one..like instead of replacing one, just add an apk and have the option to choose between the 2?

Yeah. When you add a keyboard (like swift key keyboard) just go to settings, language & keyboard, then select your keyboard you just installed. Voila!
One more question.. I looked in system/app with root explorer, and I looked 2 and 3.times, and I see no keyboard apk? Where else could it be or what other name?

Ok, I took the HTC_IME.apk from the LeeDroid Rom which my wife uses, & I put it in the /system/app folder in the Endymion Rom which I am using and I fixed permissions, rebooted, & it works ok til I try to close it after I'm done typing, then it force closes. It just says HTC_ime has stopped suddenly and must close bla bla bla! My 1st thought was that I think LeeDroid is sense 3.0 & this Endymion is sense 3.5? Or is there another way to fix it? Only difference is the arrows across the bottom, which I like. Thanks..

That's what it sounds like. Try taking it from Virtuous Fusion or Unity, then it will probably work.
