anyone else have this problem? i've never dropped my phone, never sat on it in my pocket, i've always babied it. now i took the tpu case off and the chrome is all scratched, not too bad, but noticeable. i'm guessing dirt or dust got between the case and phone, and when you press buttons, it moves slightly... irritating cause i see it everytime the case is off.
Nope. I use a black skin that fits in a belt holster. Mine still looks like I just took it out of the box.
Because TPU cases are thermoplastic, they are harder and thus can cause scratching.
yes i have the same problem the bezel is pitting i have the white mt4g
Thanks to the MODS for removing that SPAM. Great job. Keep up the good work!
It stinks that I bought something to protect my phone from scratches, and the case ended up scratching it... I wonder if any of the clear protectors (zagg, ss, phantom skinz) cover the bezel?

Any TPU case will cause some scratching as the thermoplastic is hard. It does not play well with the bezel.

I actually have been using TPU cases since I had an iPhone 2G...which has a chrome bezel... I had one on my Nexus 1, HD2, Briefly on my G1 though...but I have never noticed this problem? IDK...my phone looks fine?
I don't know what happened... It was scratch free before I started using a tpu case, now it's scratched...

I have a front and back screen protector. Should I use it naked? If it falls I'm screwed. Suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'd say leave the back one on, as it seems to have scratched moderately on my naked one. Front still looks perfect. If you're worried about dropping then screen protectors won't do squat.
I'd say protect the back as well. The front is not so important as long as you don't regularly place your phone face down on the table.

get a bumper to the very least. elevate it so when its sitting on a surface, the glass isnt touching the surface

I've been through a couple of cases, the official and poetic bumpers and pouches and I feel the best way of enjoying the phone is to have both front and back screen protectors (the rear glass scratches very easily, it is not gorilla glass) and then use a pouch aswell.
The screen protectors protect it from scratches, a good pouch should protect it from falls, this is assuming you don't have butter fingers.
I use a Skinomi techskin (front + back) and a Shocksock pouch.
I ran mine for 2 weeks with nothing but the back protector. Scariest time of my life. Was so paranoid about using it. But I had no damage other than dust always getting on the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Almost 2 months without any protectors and the front and back look as good as new, not a single scratch... Let's hope it stays like that *fingers crossed*...Although the chrome bezel does have some tiny scratches at the top probably from having it in my pocket...
I read a forum on android central last night and one guy had the bumper on his phone when he dropped it, and the fall still broke his screen, or back I don't remember which. He was pissed that the official lg bumper didn't work. I was going to buy one but I may not now. I have protectors on the front and back, they make the phone a lot less slippery too.

do whatever you like. i have front and back spigen sgp protectors on mine and i run naked all day, every day.
if something breaks well that's too bad but i guarantee you a bumper or tpu case isn't going to stop glass from breaking (as seen in a few other xda threads).
naked everyday. No screen protectors. Why cover this beautiful screen with some china plastic... Just be more careful with the phone.
This phone had been naked since the first week in December when I got it. No scratches or dings or anything. It's been great.

Just curious, has anyone broken/cracked the back of their device, while they had a bumper(OEM or Poetic) or TPU case on it, from a drop? Looking to see how these accessories are holding up.

Only had my phone for 2 days. I am using an S-Line grip case, £1.99 on eBay. Some people hate them because they are a bit sticky and what not, however I dropped mine on the train when the ticket inspector started hassling me. No cracks in the back, no cracks in the screen, slight mark on the £1.99 case :good:
Doing its job.
I was using a Cruzerlite Androidified case because the official bumpers weren't available. I felt really secure with that case. I recently got the bumper when it became available and am using it with an Xtreme guard clear skin on the back. I was a bit nervous about so much of the phone being unprotected with plastic or rubber, but so far no incidents. But I'm also very careful with it. I don't baby it, but I'm not climbing trees or having wrestling matches with it in my pocket either.
I never dropped it with the case, but it has slipped once from my hand with the bumper (because its a lot more slippery with just a clear skin on the back). It survived just fine with only a minor scuff to the bumper which I was able to buff out.
I'm very clumsy and don't have any case on mine. It's survived 3-4 waist high drops into tile and concrete with just a couple scuffs on the bevel

Edited because of predictive text...
I've had mine for about a week now. Have no screen protector on the front but have left the plastic sheet that the phone came with on the back. Have also slipped it into a Nilkin case that I bought from eBay. It's a hard plastic but thin case, feels well solid. I have had no cracks or issues and yes, I have dropped it once from about a metre onto tile flooring. I guess ultimately, it's how you treat the phone and the luck you have. I would say, if you have some sort of a casing for it, you should be pretty safe.
I was at the local mall and stopped by the ghost armor kiosk and a guy that worked there had a nexus 4 and I must say the protection seemed to be pretty good. They charge around $40 for full body protection installed (seems kind of expensive for screen protection). The question I had was how does Ghost Armor compare to Xtremeguard? I know Xtremeguard is much cheaper (wondering if that's for a reason).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I haven't had a chance to try out the Ghost Armor, but from a price point, it's hard to complain about the Xtremeguard protector...check out the review I did for some free information. Basically, the Xtremeguard is really good bang for buck price, but I know many people (including myself) aren't a big fan of the surface of the screen protector. The back for the N4 is pretty much no complaints. Only the front is a concern.

Can't comment on the other but I have xtremeguard and love it. Pros: I've reapplied this thing like 6 times. Once my cat knocked it off the table and the back side got dirty, took a paper towel and cleaned it up. Still sticks and holds very well. Feels as though it would protect the phone. Cons: peels often with both my poetic bumper as well as my mybat case. Also like the video commented, it's not glass, it's rubbery and therefore the screen have some orange peel effect.

I've the ghost armor, and it's almost perfect except for:
- High price
- A little bit difficult to apply. You have less than 3 seconds to align the protector, and the soap solution is not included on the pack.
You can hardly see that there's a protector, and the orange peel is less than expected.
I recommend it.

Less than 3 seconds... That sucks. I'd like to get my hands on one to see for myself, the i can compare the two. How can you recommend it if it's a bit difficult to apply? Lol

Ghost armor is great. Better than skinomi and you have more than 3 seconds to apply... I've tried almost all brands of protectors and for the n4, I'd go with the ghost armor.
Side note - skinomi rubber squeegee is better than the ghost armor one imo.
I ordered the Xtremeguard protectors since they were only $5 for four. I really like the factory screen protector, still using it with no issues at all. It's just the back protector started to bubble near the edge from when I took the bumper off. If the Xtreme guard doesn't work I'll try the Ghost Armor since it seems to be very good.

From my experience, I had absolutely no problems with the back from Xtremeguard so I don't expect you to have it either. As you may know, I'm using the Poetic Borderline, but didn't find problems with that combo. The front for me was a bit more of a hassle, especially with that minor orange peel. But let us know how it goes and if you do get the Ghost Armor later, definitely interested in testing that out if you do get it!

I use Xtremeguard its kind of rubbery and you lose some screen clarity due to this. But it can be easily re-applied if the need arises. also that self heal ability is quite good.

I'll let you know how it works. Is the orange peel created by how you put it on or is it just how the screen protector looks? The ghost armor protector I saw on the nexus 4 didn't have the orange peel look at all. I'm also using the poetic bumper and haven't had any issues with it yet but I've heard a lot of people mention issues they've had.

I have a ghost armor and can say it's worth it for the price you pay. Very minimal orange peel which you can not see unless you stare and look for it. Lifetime warranty too whenever you decide to change it. I've tried bse, XG, and SGP and while all are good I'm glad I pulled the trigger with ghost armor.

Yes, it was created by how I put it on. Basically I have the worst luck when it comes to this stuff. I tried filming the actual install but it was too hard and I ended up editing it. So I think if I had didn't film from the start, there wouldn't be too much (if at all) orange peel.
I did try to reapply the front again and it doesn't work well (my fault, not protector ) and the bumper definitely got in the way on the second time I applied it.

I got xtremeguard and I am quite pleased with it! I have bought Skinomi and Invisible Shield(since way back when) in the past and I feel that Xtremeguard is just as good. From memory, it is smoother and less orange peel looking. Not sure if it is dust/lint that snuck in during installation, but I have a group of white bubbles in some areas that are not fully adhered. Speaking of lint, it came with a yellow cloth that I knew not to use but it was on the screen when I applied and got between the protector and my phone. Luckily I was able to dye it black with my gel pen!
I've attached some pics.
The Xtremeguard protectors I ordered arrived today. I just finished installing the front and back protectors (I ordered 2 of each) and must say that I agree with what most people have said about them. The back looks fine (but I think it's because of the texture of the nexus 4 back, so it hides a lot of things). The front protector does feel a little rubbery. I haven't noticed the orange peel affect yet. I'm assuming that may start to come after a day or so? Also received one bad back protector that had already been peeled and had some paper stuck to the adhesive side (so I couldn't use that one). The two front protectors have a couple small white specs on the adhesive side that couldn't be removed. I emailed Xtremeguard about this to see if they can send me a replacement. Overall I think the screen protectors are okay but from what I saw at the Ghost armor Kiosk, the Ghost Armor protectors are better from a look and feel perspective.
I have had the Xtremegaurd protector on my N4 for about a week and a half now, and I still haven't gotten the orange peel effect. My case (ringke fusion) does lift up the side of the screen protector next to the power button, and I am thinking about trimming the side of the protector off so it doesn't rap around the glass to avoid this problem. My fingers also seem to almost stick to the screen sometimes, and it seems like it gets dirty extremely easily, but these are minor issues.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the back screen protector does not play well at all with the case. It leaves a horrible wet look, and is very unattractive. I ordered a dbrand skin though, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

It's a generic S-line TPU case I got off of eBay for $1.50. I've had a great track record with these on my other phones. But I was just wondering, since the N4 has more glass, will this protect my Nexus from every day falls? I figured that it would protect the front from cracking seeing as to how it has a slight (I'd say 1-2mm) raised lip.
Should I pony up the extra cash for a bumper or will this do its job just fine?
Also, the stock screen protector is starting to tick me off. Should I just peel it off and rock a naked N4 (plus the TPU case, of course)? Despite being made of Gorilla Glass 2, I've heard way too many horror stories of the phone getting scratched or cracking.
I hate the stock protector take it off haha, its really thin anyways, you'll be fine for a while until you get a new protector. And for the case, yeah I'd say it'd help with drops, not like an otterbox, but many bumps and will prevent scratches wherever the phone is covered or facing down while sitting. Don't expect it to save your phone screen cracking wise from those heart dropping drops though lol, just be careful!

Oh my goodness. The screen looks and feels SO MUCH better without the screen protector. I'm thinking of just going naked just because of the glossy finish and feel. Is it worth slapping on a screen protector just in case?
I have the LG bumper, but I still have a screen protector on the front and back. From reading other threads the back scratches real easy. I also have a TPU case like yours that I haven't used yet. The bumper is more stylish than the case.

I've never used one, I just like the feel of a naked screen. And if you're careful, there is absolutely no need for a screen protector. Even if you aren't careful, its not like the second it hits something you'll have deep scratches. Its probably a pretty tough screen.

However, I would like to ask something:

I have all TPU cases with me for my N4 and I love the protection TPU cases provide. However I have got two hard cases too for my N4, but they are flip cases. Couldn't find much flip cases having TPU material in them.
I always take good care of my phones. I have yet to break one, or lose one.
Today I did something I've done thousands of times, slide my phone into my pocket, and it put a nasty scratch in my screen. I always slide it in screen to my leg, to protect the screen in case I bump into something. The little rivet on the condom pocket of my jeans barely made contact and it scratched it.

Also to all the haters, these are far from skinny jeans which I don't own a single pair of.
I have no problem fitting my phone and hand in my pocket at the same time.
To all of you that wear jeans that are excessively baggy in the thigh area; you either don't have enough thigh, or don't have enough weiner. I suggest hitting the squat rack, or your parents for the latter.

The gorilla glass screen is hype. It's nice to have but it's not scratch proof, it's scratch resistant. I won't even use my HTC One yet (still in it's protector sleeve in box) until I have all the protections I need. The only thing I have done was to inspect it to see if I had a good batch.

Left pocket, no keys, no coins with phone. Never got a single pants-related scratch on my phones.
Wow that sucks. Have no scratches on my phone screen from putting in my pocket. though I do have nicks in the aluminum edges at the bottom panels on the front of the device from putting it in my pocket and walking around. Never have anything in the pocket with my phone and I make sure there is no lint or sand or anything of the sort to hurt my phone. But I wear skinny jeans so having it pressed tightly when walking has got little marks in it. Must have had extremely tiny particles of in my pockets that did it. Really disappointing. Was hoping to keep this thing perfect. Gonna get the siedo surface to protect the aluminum panels at the bottom and top.
It's obvious that something in my pockets did it since the top aluminum panel has no nicks in it.
