it took 15 mins
3 minutes to get through the machine
2 minutes for me to tell her my hd7 is asking for a code
2 minute for her to generate the code
8 minutes for her to tell methe code and for me to enter it in my phone.

I called and got a code but it is not working? I get an error saying activation code not valid, but am 100% sure I got the key correct as I had the person on the phone repeat several times while I wrote it down.
The Microsoft rep. told me up front that if it doesn't work it's a technical issue with the phone and sounded suprised when I told her "it worked" (had no signal).
"About phone" says HD7, Any ideas? Should I assume the key is wrong or is the authenication on the phone when I'm connecting not validating me as a genuine device?

have you edited your "hd7"s registry?

if you had, and i quote "no signal" theres another issue at hand. You need to be on wifi or have celuar data service enabled.

You have the do the registry edits to change your model into a hd7... there are tutorials all over the forum about it.

Actually i was going to call mc today or yesterday but after playing with the w7 os i wasnt pleased ANDROID pwns w7 so no need to call them or anything have fun while i enjoy with the best os on my HD2

Just called Microsoft to get an activation key and was able to get one without any trouble.
An interesting thing happened while I was speaking with the rep. He was able to tell I was using an HTC phone by my phone number....which he requested a number of times while he figured out what to do. It didn't seem to hinder the process at all on his end though.

There was a very serious article about the activation of HD2's running WP7 on pocketnow. They wrote that MS can detect that your phone isn't a real WP7 handset and that it's a crime to do it and all. I unflashed WP7 for that very reason. Would hate to be in some sh*t from MS!

nope...i called them bout the activation code FROM my HD2 with WP7...plus with the registry tweaks your HD2 isn't an HD2 anymore its an HD7 and on their computer they are receiving a call from an HD7 for all they know...and plus the rep I talked to knew what my problem was right when I said WP7, I'm implying she knew I was using an HD7.
Also if I sign into my t-mobile account, it will say my phone is an HD7

Microsoft my Phone tracking

I've lost my phone, haven't blocked it yet or anything in the hope that Microsoft my Phones locate service will help me out. When i lost it was low on Juice, by now it would have died so the locate service isn't working... Im hoping that someone has found it, charges it, sticks their sim card in it and it will be locatable...
Is this the case? The phone will broadcast the IMEI number regardless of what sim is in it yeah? If microsoft my phone isn't finding it, and i'm phoning it several times a day and its saying 'It has not been possible to connect your call, please try again later', im hoping that its dead? If someone was actively using it with a different sim card I would be able to track it right?
I've pretty much written it off now, assuming i'll never find it, i've come to terms with that, but there's always that little bit of hope... Can anyone help please?
Cheers.
Bump.
Sorry to be a pain guys but just a bit of clarification is all i'm after.
Cheers.
Wouldn't it just go right to answerphone if the battery was dead?
Hello, friend. I am really sorry that your phone is gone..I am sure that really stinks...
Well, first: I have never tried that or spoke to a mobile rep about that, but since your phone has a specific adress and its like a vin number, i believe is the IMEI #. And GPS and everything are still in the phone. They can`t delete them or change them. Thus i believe its possible that if you call a Rep and tell them to locate it or something like that, are they supposed to help you? I've heard that iphones have that fiture, that if you loose your phone, they can track it.
That's just my 2 cents. I hope I gave you some hope... Good look mate!
Not good news I'm afraid mate. I've seen quite a few people on here say that the premium MyPhone services don't work.
If someone were to charge it and put a new SIM in it then when they switched it on it would be just like it was when you last had it, so MyPhone would run as often as you had it set to. (I don't know if the tracking is updated upon request or when it syncs.)
If I were you, I'd report it missing, both to your provider and your insurance company. Bad times mate.
so this whole microsoft my phone tracking service doesn't work? Has anyone, or anyone heard of it working...? Would o2 track it and tell me where it is? I heard they won't due to privacy infringement or whatever...but surely thats what these service are in place for, to find a lost phone?
thanks for your replies so far guys.

Have you tried phoning O2 to ask them? It sounds like you've not exactly been too proactive with regards to recovering or safe guarding your phone thus far.
ive been phoning it every day and trying to track it. ive got in touch with the local police station to find out if its been handed in but i cant do that without saying its been stolen and filing a report which im reluctant to do right now if this microsoft my phone service works...

I'm assuming you don't have insurance? I'd think it's safe to say you've lost it, i'd file a report with the local police and try to claim via the insurance if you have it. Getting the IMEI barred is a real last ditch attempt as you can't remove the barred number from your countrys network once it's been done.
The myphone service is linked to the phone by your windows live ID. i would lock it asap with myphone, making the phone useless unless a hard-reset has been performed... After a hard-reset myphone wont be linked to your live ID anymore
I've tried the myphone premium services, and i can confirm that they work. If your phone cant be located, its just bad luck.
good luck to you my friend!

that's why i'm reluctant to block it and report it, once i clock it, i can't keep trying to locate it. if i keep trying to locate it and I fail, i'll lock it via microsoft my phone and put the message for them to contact me, leave it a couple of days, if nothing, block it through o2 with the imei. When i click get started its saying that i can try more than 2 times within a week, so ill have to wait until thursday to try it again i think.
EDIT: Can i still locate it i lock it through myphone not blocking the imei?

Apparently you can.
'For 7 days, My Phone will try to lock your phone. You can check the status of your lock request by returning to this page at any time.'
Have a look there, 3rd one down it gives you the usual Microsoft vague answers.

Microsoft are just as usual usless absolultely usless at giving you any information on any product or service they offer on their own website, and it doesn't actually say anywhere if you can still locate it. But it would be completely pointless if you locked it and it wouldn't let you actually locate the handset, so I would guess you could.
IIRC you can get it to display a custom message when it's locked from myphone. "Hi, thanks for finding my phone. Please call me on xxx-xxx-xxxx to claim your reward!"
that is correct yeah but then once locked, can i still locate it or am i souley relying on the finder to return it?

Even if it does locate it, it's gonna be in a 50m radius, at best. Probably more in the region of a 200m radius, which is nearly the same as not knowing where it is.
If you can get it to lock and display a message, leave it for a little while and then get it blocked via the imei.
I have a replacement sim card being used in a temporary phone at the moment, I just tried to lock the phone, why am I getting a coded text to this number, surely it should be trying to lock my imei not my number?

It has still got to send the phone a locking command, which is what you are getting.
As you are using a replacement SIM with the same number, you are in fact, preventing yourself from using any of the MyPhone functions, as there is no way to connect to the lost phone.

HD2 StolenToday-No help

So, unfortunately on my way to work this morning at 5:30 am, while on the train my phone was grabbed out of my hand by a teenage boy and then her ran off the train ):
All i was doing was silencing the alarm, he timed it perfectly. SMDH
Well, i spent all AM calling toll free # to toll free #. T-Mobile/Microsoft/HTC.
What i do not understand is how NONE OF THEM were able to track the phone for numerous reasons (allegedly)
Esp. since i was unable to do it via. the Microsoft my phone website.
Also, what is the point of having to report it stolen and file a police report for the claim when I still have to pay the same thing I would if i was neglectful and lost/broke it....?
Oh sry one more question, why isnt the memory card covered if it came inside the phone?
That sucks! It sounds like the kid knew to pull the battery as soon as he got out of sight.
If he's smart, he'll probably leave the battery out for a few days, or only boot up the phone once in the early morning.
Without the battery to power the GPS, the different recovery methods won't work.
If the kid also flashes a new ROM right away, then myPhone will never find it. Not sure about HTC's method, which may include using the unique ID.
There's a cab floating around here somewhere which will email you if someone switches SIM cards on your phone, or if you send your number a special text. This only works if they don't flash a new ROM first though. And it's a little late for you

Memory cards are an accessory and those are never covered
On the flip side of that, when your new phone arrives, it could very well have a new card in it anyway. Especially if they are loading them at the factory before packaging.
its no good to you now, but remotetracker can survive a hard reset if the sd card doesn't change, or be cooked in with your settings permanently, and it can cope with sim card being changed.
it also allows you to lock up the phone, wipe the card, show message on screen, get call and txt details, get location on cells when gps can't, recover any files you like, via email or even ftp. loads more, amazing piece of free software.
I wish i would have knew all of that ):

well he's still using your number right...? you said you were able to call and talk to him, so the phone won't know what his number is. However, I'd put money down on the fact that the very first number he called when he got the phone, was his own, so he could get your number off his phone's incoming call. Call the very first number that appears in your t-mobile call logs as happening after he stole it, and I'll bet the same guy (him) answers as when you called your number.
Either way, I would follow samsamuel's suggestion and start putting pressure on every single person in his contact list, or even put a post up on craigslist addressed "to everybody on this a$$hole's contact list, he stole my phone"...and post every single name in there, and whatever choice commentary you feel would help flush him out
Shoot, start posting every single one of his text messages online....especially the most private or embarassing ones for he and his friends. Watch his messaging activity too and I'm sure you'll spot and e-mail address or facebook/myspace account name, something you can use to smack him in the face with info....you may not know who he is, but you certainly have access to enough info about him to make him regret it.
I'm guessing at this point he still has no idea that you can see all that about him, so use your advantage here wisely....

Ahhh gotcha. Ok well yeah then I think the best you can do is just be very crafty with how you use what you can see. I still feel confident that they have no idea that myphone is doing it's thing, so just don't tip that hand too soon I know I'd have a bit of perverse fun coming up with ways to take advantage of all that!
It's interesting that myphone still updates to your same account even with a new sim/number....I guess it makes sense, since you log into an msn account to use it, and it probably only cares what data there is to back up, not what phone number or carrier account it's tied to.
Even though the myphone site won't tell you where it is, do any of the other "now what?" (premium) services show as possible? It says you can wipe the phone remotely if they work, but you may lose the insight myphone is giving you for now. But, it may become the final option at some point
EDIT: I guarantee you that T-mobile has the ability to do more to locate the phone....but without a supoena in your hand, you may never benefit from that

[Q] Activation Limit

I've been looking through the forums and people have mentioned activation limits. I'm planning on installing WP7 to have a play around, but I can see myself going back to 6.5 if it's not what I was expecting. My main concern is that if I use the activation code a couple of times for my HD2, will it stop me from activation my Live account from a future phone if I decide to get a WP7 phone later down the line? Is the code linked to the phone or my personal Live account?
Let me know if that makes no sense, my HD2 contract is coming up for renewal soon and I don't want to screw myself if I decide to upgrade my phone.
Thanks!
i believe when you buy a phone wit pre-installed windows phone 7 you should not have any difficulties with activation codes. live services should activate automaticly

With the new phone I dont think so. It should be OK. But besides that - create new live id and activate it with this one. Than you could be sure...
whoops double post. something went wrong
No problem as long as you get an activation code first. Its only an activation code for the market place Xboxlive etc. You can use the key 3 times only.
But if you get a HD7 on a contract, then it will come unlocked with all the O2 operator stuff pre-loaded.

It's a good question. Doubt you will have an issue. Pre-installed usually means no code required. I don't get why you would spend money on a WP7 when you have an HD2? I keep hearing 7 runs smoother than anything else, as if it was native.
i was told to keep the key safely when requesting it via the support hotline, because it is necessary e.g. i hardreset my "hd7".
he even told me that if i lose it one phone call is enough to request the same key again. so you can definitely use it mulitple times.
I understood the activation limit was a device activation limit, so multiple activations on the same device would be fine and largely limitless.
May have read that wrongly though...
If you reach the limit, can you just ring up and request a new code?
Guys let me clear this out! Can i use my activation key 3 times only??? Or several times??? 3 times only sucks!!!!

I didnt reach my limit, but when I accidentally pulled my sd card, and had to do a complete reflash (is that even a word?) I realised I didnt save my original activation code. So I called Microsoft back up, hoping it would work. I told the guy what happened, even told him it was an HD2 running WP7, he said ok, give me one moment. 2 minutes later, I get my second activation code. If this was twitter I would totally put Win with a # in front of it.

Tried Honesty and it worked

Ok, tried several times to get an activation code with no luck. Out of curiosity I called Microsoft again this afternoon and decided to be honest and ask for the code again, she asked
Q-phone model= HTC HD2
Q-IME No - told her my hd2 one
Q-Provider= TMobile
Q-HOME PHONE NUMBER=Told her my real UK number
She then said have you got a pen and paper and then gave me the code, she even asked if I wanted her to wait on the phone while I make sure it works.
Put in code and fantastic, it worked.
Not only you, Quite a few people have been doing so and got their Codes.
Come on, We all know. Microsoft wants us

[Q] Installing apps

Hi, I was wondering I could install apps/games if I would not activate windows 7 on my hd2. Is there any app from which I could install apps/games (XAP's)? Tom XAP Installer ?
Thanks

Not exactly sure, but I don't you think you'll be able to do much of anything without activation. Why don't you go try, then let everyone know if it works.

I've tried three times back in time and then I went back to android. They are still telling me to call them.
The phone works fine without activation, you can still unlock it, however, if its not activated you can kiss goodbye to the marketplace, live services and xbox live
setup a google account to aid you with unlocking it
just phone for activation and kick up a fuss, remain ignorant and pretend you havent got a clue what your doing, speak to a supervisor if you must, i kicked up all manor of ****e when they told me i had to contact O2 and eventually her boss sent me an email with the key.
i think i shouldnt have said it came from O2 and said it was secondhand, perhaps that will work, in any case, MS cant do anything to you other than not giving you the code, your not breaking the law so dont worry about it.
I've tried to activate mine two times with no luck. They wanted me to send them a photo of the front and back of the phone as well as a copy of the sales slip. I sure hope that someone finds a workaround soon.
