Well I am on T-Mobile and use my phone for listening to personal music. I was obviously v disappointed when the media volume on my phone was on MAX and it sounded very quiet – like it was only on half volume.
Anyway, after some searching about I found an app called VOLUME BOOST. This is a widget you stick on your home screen, leave it ON and when you plug your headphones in it increases the sound by what sounds like around 40-50%. So it’s quite a considerable boost (if you excuse the pun).
I have tried other music apps with EQ but adjusting the gain although makes the music louder, it really distorts it, makes it incredibly flat and any bass just sounds awful!
So from this, the VOLUME BOOST app is not simply a GAIN BOOSTER. It really IS a volume booster. Therefore, what is it changing on the device to get the increased volume!?!?! Which is what the phone should HAVE anyway.
So does anyone know a permanent way to fix the volume so it is at it’s maximum capability like what VOLUME BOOST does?
The reason I want to find this out is so a) I don’t have ANOTHER widget to sap my battery + clog my home screen and b) the trial is only 7 days and although it’s a cheap app, I have an objection to paying for things that a £450 phone should already be able to capably do.
Cheers.
By the way, the VOLUME BOOSTER app is found on the market place for anyone interested who has low sound volume. THIS WILL FIX IT. I promise you.
Finally you have someone telling you a fix without telling you to download a new player and adjust the gain.

I've seen a lot of posts about volume being too quiet, but none about being too loud. I have a Jabra wired in-ear stereo headset, and putting the system volume to it's lowest, non-muted, setting of 20% while turning down the volume of Slide2Play to it's lowest, it is still too loud. It's not too loud to listen to, I just mean I want to be able to make it barely audible if I have to, for instance if a co-worker says something I don't want to be forced to take the headset off.
Is there any way to adjust the volume to somewhere in the 1-19% range rather than 20% being the lowest?
The headset is pretty comfortable, so I'd hate to have to buy an out-of-ear model which I imagine would be less loud at the lowest setting.
Mind you, I don't want to lower the overall volume. I like that it can be loud too, I just need it to be a little more quiet when I'm in the zone trying to bend a piece of code or SQL statement to my will so I don't miss what people say around me.. hehe.
just open ur headset and put a higher value resistor in it.
hope u understand my words.
Thanks for the advice but I'm not much of an electrician.
I'm more looking for a program, cab or registry tweak that allows for greater control of the volume rather than the simple Mute, Quiet, Medium, Loud, Louder, Very Loud settings that our BAs come with.
I found a cab that allows you to adjust the bass and treble which was very handy, but I can't seem to find one that allows more refined volume levels all around.
hv u tried the SRS WOW HD? it has a tab to adjust the input and output gain it decreases the volume level.

Hmm, that SRS WOW HD does help. Although it seems to like to completely mute my device if I unplug my headphones, or plug them in. It kind of seems like I need to reset the device after I plug or unplug my headset.
Kind of annoying, but music does sound better and I can make it more quiet. Thanks for the suggestion.
Anyone know how to keep it from disabling sound on my device when I plug/unplug my headset?
the iPhone kicks the Nexus's ass on volume and quality of sounds output (wife has iPhone). Is there anyway to boost the volume of the sounds on the Nexus at all? - I'm a bit deaf and I find the phone volume a bit quiet for me (let along the music player)
Is there any form of "pre-amp" capability hidden in the system somewhere?
There was an APP i used on my g1, i dont think it works on the nexus yet. It was called louder volume hack

It is from the developer and may keep you up to date on the status of this app.
Im sure Meltus will have some mod for Nexus when he gets one or updates his app again.
thanks for pointing this out to me. Appreciated

You can also try a different set of headphones. (the in-ear type, or a powered set with volume control)
Volume is very loud with my Koss Sparkplug in-ear set. (and does not hurt like the default headset)
I could be wrong but I think the complaint is largely with the speaker on the back of the phone, and therefore ringtones and such not being loud enough. If you want to go with the use different headphones route I suppose you could hook the 3.5mm up to an amp and speakers but that seems a little ridiculous to me.
hi everybody i love my legend but i'm really disappointed with this issue: even at the minimum, the volume is too loud too listen it with hearphones...
Is there an app to fix it?
Trying another rom could fix it?
Thk you
Got same issue

Hey, I agree with what you've said above. I have the same issue. Please note that I have no direct solution for you, but the work around is this:
Use a different set of headphones. I have three sets I use.
1) pair of ear buds that came with the legend - these are fine when I turn the volume down low
2) Phillips SHS3201 - these are basic ""over the ear" hook style ear buds. volume is fine if I turn it down between first second "notches".
3) Monster Audio Turbine ear buds - foam sealing passive noise canceling. These are too loud even at the lowest setting. I think they have powerful drivers that simply boost the sound and foam fittings that drive the sound into my ear canal. Though they sound great, I can't really use them because they are too loud on the phone.
Are you using a high quality or "foam sealing" headphone?
That being said, I'm interested if anyone else knows how to adjust this!
Thanks.
Thk you for your reply I've not found a real solution but you're right i think i'm gonna buy earphones with external volume adjustement because even with the original legend ones, it's too loud
There is another way to fix it but i don't like it.. You can change de volume of your mp3's by using mp3 gain (freeware). The volume is better but if you want to connect the legend to a loudspeaker, you realise that the sound has unfortunately a very limited volume...
I am interested in this as well. I have tried the Music Player with EQ platinum (by changing left and right channel to output lower volume) but it kills the CPU. If you view photos while listening to music, you might not hear any music anymore.
Same here. It gets very annoying when the phone rings while I'm listening to things on my earphone - it hurts my ear everytime. (I have ringer set to max volume, which seems to make the ring tone play at max volume through earphone as well. I can barely stand min volume as it is.)
I've already rooted my phone - I guess changing the audiopara files should do the trick. Can anyone tell me how to understand those files?

I am using j-jays intra earphones and the Legend really disappoint me about the sound quality (volume setting).
So I tried to set EQ as down as possible... what there is no EQ on Android's music player? f****!
Finally I have found and used Astro Player beta on the market, wich is not very good-looking but has a complet EQ.
And an other problem about Legend sound quality appears: the sound in noisy at low volume!!!
Ok let's hope a flash will correct the problem. For the moment I am using my Sansa clip+ to hear the music in my bed and my legend with RockPlayer to watch movies in my bed
Volume issue Android
I've been having an issue with the volume being too loud when streaming music via pandora or last.fm
To check to make sure we are all having the same problem, follow these steps and report back.
1. Play media (music) w/ headphones
2. Turn off silent mode
3. Go to Settings/Volume
4. Edit the volume of the ringer (it will play a test sound)
5. Accept changes...
Now, did the volume go down on the media so it's nice and quite? If so, how long does it last? I know this works for me for the rest of my current song, but as soon as another one starts it's back up to crazy loud volume (even when the media volume is set to smallest amount).
I have also downloaded a 3rd party volume control app, but the same thing happens. Please give this a shot and let us know what happened!
I am one of those people who listen to music mostly for background noise while I work. This means the music has to be quite low. I use ear buds to muffle out the outside noises. However this means that the lowest volume setting becomes too high. For me, most mp3 players suffered from this problem. Until I started using Rockbox firmware on my Sansa mp3 mplayer that offered 84 levels of volume control.
The Samsung Epic in comparison only offers 16 levels of volume adjustment. Is there a way to improve this volume level control? I briefly search Android Market but did not see anything relevant. May have overlooked.
I hate to be a douche, but i dont think more volume steps is all that necessary.
I use these "Sony Earbuds", they have there own inline volume controller so i can achieve practically as many steps as i can imagine (analogue adjuster)
It totally needs more volume steps. Is it specific to this phone, or does it happen on all Android phones? I've never used another Android phone, so I wouldn't know.
Hi,
I'm a 50+ old punk/new wave musician and rock fan. I don't have any greater hearing problems, but the sound level, playing media files from whatever source, with my (wired) headphones on my HTC Wildfire is TOO LOW. Especially when I'm in the underground/metro, or in other places with a quite normal to loud background noise.
I think there ought to be at way or possibility to increase the sound volume permanently, after my own standards and requests, without having to root the phone or buy software.
I found some hints in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884188, but that is only supposed to work until you restart the phone, then you have to do it again. I haven't tried this on my Wildfire yet, since I'm not sure how well it turns out.
Any ideas, solutions or best shots, anybody?
Best wishes,
Goran, Stockholm (otherwise quite satisfied with my Wildfire)
Search for dsp manager. Not sure it works for stock/sense but we have it on cm7 and works a treat.
Hope this helps

Try getting some noise isolating earphones/headphones. A good quality pair will make so much more difference.
Thanks for the suggestion, f0xy, but it seems like I have too root the phone and I'm already messing enough with my computers, so I've at least had the intention not to mess with my Wildfire as well... ;-)
There is an app on the market called volume boost that is supposed to increase the volume level on wildfire headphones.
I think the volume on the phone itself is way too low. When playing videos etc i find i'm constantly putting my hand behind the phone speakers to deflect the sound to my ears. I think there is a health and safety regulation being enforced to deliberately lower the volume levels on phones. I read that somewhere concerning Sony Ericsson walkman phones. There was a way to extract the file from the phone, modify it on pc and restore the modded file. Not sure if the same sort of thing is possible on htc phones.
poweramp for example has an equalizer that allows you to boost treble, midd and bass, so making the sound louder overall... But there may be better solutions
This works for me: http://www.appbrain.com/app/volume-boost/com.kiboweb.android.desiresoundunlock
Thanks, I'll check it out.
