So my question is how do you immediately transfer all your Outlook contacts to Windows Phone 7 on the HD2.
I currently have over 300 contacts so its not possible for me to copy all of them in the sim card.
Is it the same as connecting it to outlook and syncing. Someone please be kind enough to explain.
Thanks

its good and **** as it can backup and restore your imp info but now I have 1000more duplicate contact and not able to remove it
Easiest way:
1. Export contacts from Outlook in cvs format.
2. Import contacts in Gmail.
3. Sync your WP7 Phone with Gmail and you are done

ohhh k !! cool !!
It's a complete joke that you need a Google app in order to sync 2 Microsoft products.
On the bright side of life: If you then go to Android then all your contacts will be already waiting for you
It's funny that WP7 syncs everything with Google...even the calender so Gmail is also a way to export all your appointments from Outlook to WP7

True, but windows live is what they expect you to have all your contacts info under, which I find wierd considering it's only really been used for this now, so be wary when adding your live account, as all your email contacts will be visible and you can't do anything about it, delete them from the phone, they'll delete from your email account so be CAREFUL!!!
To get around this as mentioned in a previous thread somewhere in the HD7 forum, I created a new live account, made that the default when signing into windows live and entering my key, then added an email account which was my main hotmail, this only syncs emails, nothing else, hope this helps prevent problems!!!!
Been trying to get my contacts from my android phone to new 7.5 wp for 2 days now and it seems there is nothing such as a "phone book" in WP7.5 only social networking sites or email accounts to "SYNC" with..??
No such thing as a simple transfer... What happened to user friendly?
What if you do not want your phone book spread all over the internet??... ie: just have them on your phone to use as intended?
Some of us are not teenagers whose life revolves around Facebook, Twitter and buying music online. Microsoft appears to be totally ignorant of this?
A great phone OS overtaken with marketing traps and complicated ideology.
I myself did not use gmail (google).
Before I flashed I did a sync with Outlook 2007 ( made sure all phone contacts were in address book)
Then I exported address book out of Outlook ( saved as .csv file).
I went over to Hotmail and imported the .csv file, cleaned up any double entry in the Hotmail address book.
Flashed my phone to WP7 and all my contacts were back in my phone after first sync with Hotmail.
Now I assume live.com is the same as hotmail.com, and the options will be available to import a file from your pc into your address book.
Yes it's a small pain ( 10 min in all on my part), but going forward I will now always have my contacts backed up in Hotmail
gmail works fine for all mentioned above and then some.
Way before i flashed WP 7.5 i already had a gmail account. Now the next bit maybe particular to me but here goes.
I do business with 2 main companies and as such i have an email account with them and i have a local email account with my service provider. Always nice to keep business separate from private email i think.
I also travel around Asia quite a lot and using outlook i sometimes have trouble sending and or receiving emails to all 3 pop accounts. So i ended up using webmail which sucks cos i have 3 separate web mail pages to check. Theh i discovered gmail can fetch mail from any other account and collate it to one page. so if i am having trouble ( usually in China or the Philippines) i can go to an internet cafe and read and send mail.
Stick with me ill get to the good bit.
So i have all my mail being checked and stored on gmail ( i can still get it in the normal way as well , just leave on server for a day so google gets chance to grab it as well (usually every hour))
Now when i went to set up my HD2 WP7.5 Google mail .... it already recognized the all the 3 different accounts as folders ( like imap exchange server) . Best is you can pin each folder to start screen so you can see which folder has new mail. Works fantastically well ..costs nothing just a bit of set up time!
ANd i can access everything from any computer in the world that has an internet connection and a web browser
Of course some people are paranoid ( only my opinion) about having mail and contacts and calenders "stored" in the cloud. I think this is somewhat over anxious . Do we really think our contacts and data is safe at home.??!
In all my years of mobile devices ( and there have been many trust me) i have only just started to use email seriously while "on the road", the email client in WP7.5 on my HD2 is great.
On my PC at home i have 2 little programs to keep Outlook contacts and calender in sync ...all works fine.
Good luck
OK, but how the hell thay came to an idea, that one would transfer contacts only one way, to WP7?
I got a Nokia Phone of my friend who wants to move to android, and I was going to take his Nokia 610 for some tests. However, he asked me to transfer all his contacts to his Galaxy S2. He does not have google on his phone, neither Windows Live.
I decided to set up a google account for him. But what I've found is , there is no way to move a contact registered in his phone as a "Phone" contact (he didn't have any google on his phone up to now), to google.
Or am I wrong.
In Nokia 610 you can only regeister a new contatc as a one to by syncted with google. You can not do it with old contacts registered before a google account was set on the phone.
You guys mean, such system is a friendly one? A future????
I used to run my old HD2 on Windows Mobile 6.5 and so on, and that was a good OS. And now what is this?
Now I've already done my tests on WP7 and never more. And my friend will have to forget about his contacts. I will not advice him to sign for WL and install Outlook with all this stuff to end up converting .csv files.
With Android Galaxy, you can use google, or Kies to sync directly without any "cloudy" stuff and propagate your contacts all over the world. Why M$ thinks they can push us to forget about simple solutions and push us to show up with all our private life?
Contacts back from 6.5 - wp7
This might be a little of topic but i'll give it a shot here anyways.
I have just installed wp7 on my mothers HD2 and before I was sure to backup with "Windows mobile device center" to not lose anything. But when i'm done and everything and want to get the contacts to her phone, it will not connect to the device center. What can i do to fix this? I know i should have synced them with outlook or something but i thought the device center would be enough.
Please help me with getting the contacs back to the phone
all contacts sync with Live account (or Google)... add again Live account and contact is back (if Live account used before)... dont use WMDC for sync... this not tool for WP7 (is necessary for some things but not recommended for this)
if you want make backups use WP Backup v1.0 tool... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34547938
if you have outlook contacts, export to cvs file, import to Live or Google account and sync with phone (look tutorial in my signature)

Okay. She doesn't know if she used live account with wp 6.5, but I have a vague memory of setting it up on her phone.
But if she doesn't, is there a way to retrieve the contacts from wmdc without having "the old phone" plugged in?
Thanks for the fast reply btw!
aha problem is transfer from WM6.5.... i dont tried this.... when year ago swithed to WP simply have contacts on SIM card...

Yeah, from 6.5. We had some contacts on the sim, from a previous backup a while ago, but there is several more added after that.
Is it posible that wmdc has the contacts saved somewhere in a special file? I'm looking for one but cant even find program directory on my pc...

Google has recently announced that they will not be supporting exchange server for windows.
This is all against windows phone devices, they will go on supporting ios devices.
Now my whole contacts (not much 300+) are all in my gmail contact service. And most of them have their pictures.
Yesterday, i logged in in my outlook.com, and added a contact there..
(it was my first log in in there i've always used my hotmail and now cant go back to hotmail.. any way they are all the same!)
I found out that "i cannot insert a picture to my contact" in outlook.com.
I'll be using a phone, when someone calls me i can't "see" who's calling.
I dont know you, but for me its unacceptable!
I'm looking for a new way to sync my contacts with my HD2 and my ipad! (yeah i used to syn my google contacts also in there)
So can some one please tell me if there's something i can do?
Any useful offer, i would be much appreciated..

I'm curious if there is anyway to type up my contacts on my PC, and then transfer them over to my HD2, I have over 200 contacts, and I don't want to have to type them ALL onto my phone, as it would be a lot easier to type them on my laptop. Does anyone have any insight?

this is one reason why i stick to winmo as i have been using it for years and love the way i can easily put all my contacts on the phone simply by the first active sync i do when i get a new phone.
Mike
If you have a Gmail account use Google Sync. You can make special folders for contacts you want to sync and those that you don't. Then, on your phone, go to Start>Tools>ActiveSync. If you haven't set any accounts up yet, it should say something like "setup an MS exchange, blah blah blah". If you already have another account set up, use the right softkey (Menu) and press "Configure server". Here it will guide you through the process. Use your gmail address (full address) as your username, then enter your password. For the server, use "m.google.com". Then when you sync, your Gmail contacts will be synced to your phone. What's nice about this is that the changes you make on the contact info cards on your phone are synced with your Google contacts. If your phone breaks, get a new phone, or you need to hard-reset, your contacts will be resynced (you'll have to set it up again)... but at least all your contacts will be there! Save yourself some heartache and use the Google Sync service.
BTW, this uses Microsoft Exchange... if that matters.
The problem with Outlook is the cost. Working for the NHS I got it for a few pounds on the Home User Programme. I guess there is a trial version. There's certainly a beta of Office 2010 available but I haven't tried this with Mobile Device Centre.
Hey all, i'm going from my winmo 6.5 install on my Touch Pro to the android system on the Evo(i've never used android before. i'm very excited!) whats the best way to transfer contacts, sms, mms, bookmarks, favorites etc to the android from winmo? in the past i would just use sprite mobile backup in conjunction with windows MyPhone service to transfer to the new winmo phone.
how does it work between two different OSes?
thanks!!
I too am in the same situation. My wife just went from WinMO 6.5 to Android (got a Hero, decided she didn't need the evo) and she ended up manually putting her contacts into google. Seemed like a pain.
I searched around and there are some paid apps out there to sync outlook and google, but I am not going to be to only do it once (abandoning outlook after this). Theres a sync plugin for outlook that google made, but it seems like you might need an exchange server in order to use.
I think there is a way to export your contacts into .csv and then import into google but that doesnt sound too great either (although better than doing it manually lol).
Anyone know of a good app to sync contacts and calendar from outlook to google (at least just for one time)?
You can use activesync on your winmo phone to sync your contacts and calendar to your gmail account, then when you get the evo, use the same gmail account to sync it all with that
backup your contacts to your google account from winmo, google has an exchange server you can sync using. do it right on the phone, search the winmo forums for exactly how, i did it over 6 months ago when the hero came out so i dont remember.

You're right, that probably would have been a good way. Unfortunately my HTC FUZE has died and I am on an oldschool smartphone (Cingular 2125, HTC Faraday, many other names) and I don't know if it has exchange/google sync support in its activesync.
Any software-solution ideas?
I use exchange server to sync all my data. If you dont have access to a exchange server then sync with google then resync with google on your android phone.
I am in the same boat. Unfortunately I dont want to merge gmail info with my phone. I was thinking about Sprite Migrate.... anyone use before?
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
qu1nn
well, i can't get the google sync to work, so i'm going to give sprite a shot
sprite migrate looks interesting, is it free? All this research seems pretty time consuming, might just export to csv and manually input callendar lol.
would love just a simple sync from outlook to google... sigh...
Same here just made the switch from WM to Android (Sprint Hero) two weeks ago and couldn't be anymore happier. Android is fun, easy to learn and very customizable. Like all the above post, switching over contacts (not needed the other stuff) to gmail was super easy and save plenty of times. For me Android is here to stay and hopefully you too will learn to like it as much as I did. Good luck!!!

could you possibly run me through how you did it? i can't seem to figure it out! i tried using google sync, but it keeps telling me the server is not configured properly
If you have access to Exchange use that, if not use Gmail. Those are the methods I have used for other folks and it works fine.
clearly i need to learn to sync with exchange. last time i tried, it wiped my phone contacts and put all my work email contacts on there instead. whew! more learning!

Well, its part of activesync.
Go to activesync on your phone, menu, add server source
server addy is m.google.com (and requires ssl)
username put FULL email addy (i.e. [email protected], you need the @gmail (or your server, some are googlemail, etc).com part)
then pick what you want to sync
you should be ok, the only thing I am worried about is if it replaces your phone contacts with its own or merges the 2, I might find out soon though... would just like someone to confirm with me
i tried that and it would start to sync then give me an error saying "the exchange server is not properly configured" and wouldn't go anywhere from there
When you are on the last activesync screen where you select what to sync, (contacts, calender, e-mail, tasks), Select Menu at bottom right. Select Advanced. In the top drop down select "Keep the item on my device". I just synced to my gmail contacts, which was empty, and it worked fine. I did have to try it several times to get it to work but now that its set up it works well.

Setup a Funambol account at http://my.funambol.com
Download the Funambol CAB install file to your Windows Mobile device (that is actually running Windows Mobile. You can get the CAB file by going to the email tab in your Funambol portal and selecting download)
Install Funambol (onto Window's Mobile)
Sync your contacts with the Funambol server by launching Funambol and entering your Funambol portal account information
Download the Funambol Android application (from Funambol Forge)
Put the .apk file on your SD card in the /Storage Card/AndroidApps folder. If this folder doesn't exist, create it.
Boot into Android by running Android from your program menu or by manually running haret.exe
Once in Android, bring up the Application menu.
Open the Funambol application.
Press the menu key and tap on Settings.
Enter your Funambol portal information.

So will this phone sync with outlook? Don't see any apps on the sprint or samsung site.
Use Activesync via Hotmail to sync w/Outlook contacts and calendar for free OTA.
there is no way to go directly via the cable? I find that syncing via net changes fields. + I hate hotmail
Well you don't need to use it for email.
I've never had an issue with Exchange Activesync screwing up fields between devices. The Hotmail implementation just happens to be the cheapest one out there.
So in the Epic there is a way to select hotmail as a contact source? or does it have to be done through the email config.?
found a rant at sprint about this:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/208546
Looks like samsung has an app that was released for another carrier.
Set it up as a corporate account.
What a PITA,
this is quickly turning into a major headache. Sync shouldnt be that big of a deal. Kies is so bloated.
Sync isn't a big deal if you use Activesync OTA. It happens automagically in the background and everything is up to date.
Using a cable to sync is so 1990.

how and where?
I'll monkey with it some more later today, looks like you can set-up the hotmail email as a corporate account on the EPIC 4G, on the PC side I saw an app from microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...89-af2e-41f9-a175-f93e1377959f&displayLang=en
that should allow synchronization from PC to hotmail. I'll whip-up a tutorial later today after I can test it out.
I'll be following this closely.
I was able to get all of my Outlook contacts loaded without losing anything (i.e pictures), by saving them all as .vcf files from Outlook, placing them on the SD card under a "contacts" folder, then on the Epic telling it to import all of the .vcf files from the SD card. That let me get all my Outlook contacts loaded without having to push them up to a Gmail account, then back down to the phone, losing some of the extra stuff Outlook stores, but it's a static operation, meaning if I change a contact on the phone or in Outlook they're out of sync then, and also no syncing of the calendar.
Hopefully syncing Outlook to Hotmail via the add-in, and then using the Hotmail to sync the phone will bring over all the info.

Settings -> Accounts -> Manage Accounts on the Epic (or any other Android device).
Add account and choose "corporate."
On the PC side, grab the Hotmail Outlook connector (free from MS) to sync Outlook directly. Or use Windows Live Mail which syncs natively to Hotmail by default if you don't want to pay for Outlook.
When I try it keeps say can't connect to server. It puts as "\my username" then has sever name as hotmail.com . Then I get a "unable to connect to server" what am I doing wrong. Thanks

how did you go about getting the contact files (currently *.msg) into the *.vcf format?
I kept trying over and over and all I would get is something like " unable to connect server" I finally gave up. I went to the gmail account they make you setup to use marketplace. I when to setting, import contacts and put in my hotmaill account and it got all of the contact. The went to my phone, went to accounts, found my gmail account and synced my gmail account on my phone. Now all of my contacts are on my phone. I not as woried about my calander. I will just use google calander to add my dates. The year is almost over so it's not that much to update manually.
Hi, i having a problem to sync my contacts, text messages, etc from my old OS (windows mobile 6.5) to WP7. I have backup my contacts and text messages to Myphone app, but WP7 seems don't have the app. So how can I syn my thing since WP7 don't have the desired app? Did anyone have ideas to help me solve this problem?
Check is WM7 is what you need...
That's a big WM7 issue. As far as I know (I just flash it yesterday and went back to droid) the only way to sync all is to use the "cloud", Gmail or Exchange. No way for the moment to synch anything with your computer!
The job to port WM7 is awsome, it works very nicely but the OS itself is crappy.
My HD2 became a toy for music, hotmail etc...
But as a computer peripheral it's useless (I need something which doesn't send all my contacts and appointments to a third party company as MS or google).
Check what you need in order to decide if WM7 is for you or not.
***please don't misunderstand my post, the port of WM7 is a great job! it's only the usage I need from my phone which is not compatible with this OS but all was working as it has to, fully activated by MS, access to market... really great job***
but maybe soon...
Regarding the amount of complains from "pro" users on the MS Forum, they may update Zune to sync more than just music, pictures...
So wait for updates from MS or third party (SpriteBackup, ...) apps to give the ability to backup/restore (at least) or sync directly with a computer.
Don't forget WM7 is still a new OS.

You can't. Myphone is only for Windows Mobile, not Windows Phone. The best you can do is to log in on your pc and transfer your contacts to hotmail or gmail, then sync. Don't know what you can do about your texts at the moment.

A work around?
I posted this elsewhere and didnt get any real work arounds.....
(I returned my OE WP7 and returned to HD2 on WM6.5).
However, just a thought.....
MyPhone is only for WM6.5 but using ActiveSync you can sync mail, contacts, calendar & tasks with Outlook. I read on the Microsoft forum that you can download Hotmail Contacts to Outlook, and export from Outlook to Hotmail.
If I were to return to WP7, which no doubt I will do:
Contacts:
I would Sync WM6.5 with Outlook, then upload them to the Hotmail account I would be using on WP7. I remember (and may stand corrected) that when you register the Hotmail account on the device, the Contacts are automatically downloaded.
WM6.5 using Windows Live allows you to download Hotmail contacts to my phone, so I guess they would also sync.
Doesnt cure my original issue that I wanted my Phone and Hotmail contacts seperate. I may have to create an additional Hotmail account for that?
Calendar:
On my version of Outlook, I can have two calendars showing - one for the PC which is synced to my phone and one which is my Hotmail. I havent found a way to automatically sync them, but its easy tp drag an appointment from say my PC calendar to Hotmail and therefor on to WP7.
Regarding texts, theres no way like MyPhopne, just copy what you can to your sim card I am afraid.
Does that sound like it might work?
I was able to sync my contacts from my WM6.5 to wp7. Used to have all my HD2 contacts saved in Outlook contacts. I exported all those contacts as an excel (or you can do it as an csv-comma separated values) file to my documents. Then I created a Windows Live ID on my desktop. It is basically a hotmail account. Imported contacts to my Windows Live ID account from my documents. So all your contacts are saved online in your Windows Live account. Then I signed into Windows Live on my WP7 HD2 and imported all my contacts from my online account.
I also want to know. Currently I have Outlook stored my WM6.5 contacts, calendar, tasks, and PIMBackup stored my texts and call logs. Any 3rd party WP7standalone app available to do the similar. I think all the above addressed less than 1/3 of the requirements here.
Title pretty much explains!
With facebook and secondary email accounts, under settings you can disable them from importing contacts into WP7's contact area... but with the main Windows Live ID you use to activate the phone, there's no tick box to disable the importing of messenger contacts.
Now my phonebook has like 300 entries of people who don't even have phone numbers... help?! Please!
Yeah! I've got the solution for you, i run into this problem as soon as i got my activation code and got my hotmail account up and running, all you got to do is go to your mail account and delete all the contacts in the contacts page then re-sync your live account from your phone and *bam* unwanted contacts are gone!

Click to collapse
Then all your contacts store in Hotmail are gone?
I have just posted this against another similar post, would it work?
