Sorry but do you even read this forum? How do you get here and not see the 1000 threads on it. It takes a minute to look, man.

This solution worked for me.
Insert SD into USB reader
Insert USB reader into Windows Vista/7 PC
Select command prompt
Type DISKPART and press enter
Type List disks and press enter
Identify USB disk ID (usually the last in the list)
Type SELECT DISK x (replacing x with device id from above step). Press Enter
**** WARNING THE NEXT STEP WILL ERASE PARTITION INFORMATION FROM THE SELECTED DEVICE. CHOOSE THE DISK ID CAREFULLY****
Type CLEAN. Press Enter
Create new volume:
type CREATE VOL SIM, and press enter.
Click to collapse
But Creating a new Volume was only possible with "Create Partion Primary", not with "Create Volume Simple".

Using a camera worked fine for me.

Seems like most old devices will format it, tried one of my old Samsung phones, like the BT8190 or something lol. Did the job, and also tried my old nokia, but we all knew those worked.

U can use a camera or a old Nokia or ubuntu (gparted)
I try all those metods, and all works fine for me.

+1, this tool is the original sd format tool(free software) , better than windows to format.
And U can use other partition tools.
the better way to format sd is using cardreader instead of using usb cable

Insert MicroSD into USB reader
Insert USB reader into Windows Vista/7 PC
Run Command prompt
1. Start and Run DiskPart
Type DISKPART and press enter
2. List all disks on system in DiskPart
Type List disks and press enter
3. Select and set target disk to use in Disk Part
select disk <number>
4. Create a partition with DiskPart
create partition primary
5. List all partitions in DiskPart
list partition
6. Select a partition to manage in DiskPart
select partiton <number>
7. Format a volume or partition in DiskPart
type Format.

symbian is the answer
just format it in any nokia symbian phone

hi 96edwy
i've asked you on your youtube link but also on here if you don't mind
i have a working 8GB PNY micro sd card that has been reformated from 199mb capacity
i want my hd2 wm7 to recognise it so i can use it to store more conversations, applications and put music on
do you have any idea how i can achieve this?
If wp7 doesn't recognise it, maybe its not supported, there is a thread on here with the sd cards that are supported, have you checked if your sd card is supported?

yes sorry to say your sd card is gone, all data is lost.
you can go back to wm6.6 by flashing a stock or custom rom, just boot into the tricolour screen and flash as you would any normal rom
Thanks God anyway
but when i try to flash custom Rom it gaves me connection error on the installation progress
why is that ?
I just mount SD card in MAGLDR then diskpart clean it then format it normally...

Hey Dude thanks for getting my card back very much appreciated, excellent tutorial
Manual with Command promt
1. Run command prompt with admin privileges
2. Type in diskpart
3. Type in "list disk" to find diskpart's designation for your flash drive
4. Assuming your flash drive is disk 1 type:
a. select disk 1
b. clean
c. create partition primary
d. select partition 1
e. active
f. format fs=fat32 quick
g. assign
h. exit
after runnng wm7, i still can format sdcard by using another android phone/nokia phone. And the sdcard is recognized when my phone is running android/wm7/wm6.5). But there are 2 weird problems that i can't solve:
1. cannot use SD formatter v.30 software to format my sdcard again. always get error message when the format process reaches 30-40%. Even if i pre format my sdcard by using another software(hard disck low level format, partition wizard) /phone( android phone, nokia, window 6.5 phone), SD formatter still can't format my sdcard.
2. cannot install any android SD builds. When the android boots, the screen show me " ... cannot find any logical sector..."
thanks!

[Q] Big SD Problem.....HELP

Hy every body, does some one heard about SD damaged after a FAT32/EXT4 Format?
Let me explain myself:
I've SD-FROMATTED my sd, then using GPARTED LIVE SD in my HD2 in MAGLDR
i've created two partitions:
1/ FAT32
2/ EXT4
I do have click on "apply".
Now, my SD is unreadable and unrecognized by my phone.
The oly way i have to use it now is FAT32 only.
It is the third time i do the partitioning on this SD and it's the first time it does'nt work
HEEELP!!!
I've heard about file corruption using MAGLDR USB MassStg...Is-it true
Thanks for your anwers
No answer? Nobody?
download panasonic SD Formatter 3.0 and that will sort it no probs.
matt
Try Panasonic SD Formatter as mentioned above. With the stock SD card I've had problems formatting using a card reader, however. I had to flash back to a windows mobile rom, connect to PC as a hard drive (not active sync) and re-format the card via that method. It's a pain, but try this if you're really stuck.
Thanks i'll try those methodes
i use minitool partition manager
but first go to control panes, then computer management, devices, find your sd card and right click on it. select create new disk label and that should solve your problem.
now after that run minitool partition manager and you 'll be able to see your sd car as new disk (or something) just create a new partition as (fat32, primary) format maybe that could solve your problem.
(the same thing happen to mee and i was about to cry because of it)
(sorrry for bad english, i'm still learning)
Thanks kof102. I'm on it

One problem can be that when try create a Ext partition using CWR it only creates an Ext2 which isn't really the best.
I've seen on differnt French forums that i'm not alone. Is there a Risk formatting and partitioning an SD Card, that is not done for, to damage allocation Table?
My SD is dead now. Not even my PC, my Phone or else are abble to find my SD. Have you heard about that?
No answer? No body?
try using EASEUS Partition Master 7.0.1 Home Edition with this u will be able to see what is going on.. hope it helps.
Thanks, Have you allready heard about that befor?
I had a problem with my SD it didn't come up on my pc too, when I was playing with the dual booting partition making for wp7 and android. some how it messed up and SD didn't come up so I found this program Easeus and some how managed it to work again it was a simple problem that all I had to do is to recreate the partition and only after that u can format it. if it doesn't exist u format nothing actualy lol.
hope u have the same problem.
I've tried EASUS but it was unable to read my SD...
I think it's dead now...
I've bought an other one and part it with CWM. It's EXT2 but it work perfectly!
Maybe it could be nice to check if nobody else had the same than me...and tell it to Master COTULLA!
No body else?

SDHC 8Gb SDcard not recognized

Hi there, new to this forum so can't post to development forum although I searched there. I'm running Swiftdroid 1.8 / CM7 by Mur4ik on my GT540 and all works fine. The stock 2Gb SDcard that came with the phone is a bit small for my liking so I got myself a Kingston 8Gb class 4 SDHC. Unfortunately this card does not seem to be recognized by the phone, the following are the symptoms:
1. When inserting card and booting phone, mostly it gets stuck at LG boot screen.
2. Sometimes it does boot but then doesn't mount the SDcard. After boot I get a notification like "unknown filesystem on SDcard" (or similar), and do you want to format the SDcard? Yet if I try to format it using the phone, it doesn't work.
3. Checking with adb shell and "mount" I see that the SDcard is not actually mounted.
4. The card is recognized fine on a computer via USB under both Windows and linux, and I can transfer files.
5. When manually partitioning the SDcard (gparted under Ubuntu) to only contain a 4Gb partition formatted with FAT16, then it works fine and is recognized (remaining 4Gb unused). Unfortunately FAT16 is 4Gb max, so I can't format the whole card in a single FAT16 partition. Also at that size FAT16 is very space wasteful (65k cluster size) so that even a tiny file takes minimum 65k space.
6. However, when formatting this SAME partition (i.e. 4Gb) as FAT32 it is not recognized and I get the same errors as above with the single 8Gb FAT32 partition.
7. I tried reformatting the card with SD Formatter 3.0 from ---www dot sdcard dot org--- but it did not make a difference.
So it does not seem to be the card that's faulty. Has anyone else experience with using FAT32 formatted SDcards on Swiftdroid? From reading the forums this should be no problem and certainly the Linux kernel can recognize FAT32. Also there was a report of someone using a 32Gb SDHC with the GT540 although I'm not sure which firmware (stock or mod).
I haven't tried it with Stock LG 2.1 ROM but am very happy with Swiftdroid so don't want to go back to 2.1 just to get the SDcard working.
Have you formatted it as primary

What is the "disk parted" software you are referring to? Can't seem to find it. Can you post a link? I've tried gparted, fdisk and cfdisk under Linux, as well as SD formatter 3.0 under Windows.
I have had similar problems after changing card, that I managed to resolved after rebuliding MBR of the card and reformating the card
Use Mini Partition Wizzard (Home Edition), delete existing partitions ,select disk and rebuild MBR, than do the format.
I hope that helps, I worked for me.

Tried this, but it did not make a difference After trying to boot phone with newly formatted SD card, it just gets stuck at LG logo. When re-inserting the original 2Gb SD card it boots up just fine.

OK, so I tried formatting the card with TestDisk (under Ubuntu linux) but again it did not help. Place freshly formatted FAT32 8Gb SDcard into phone, switch on, and it gets stuck at LG boot logo Insert original 2Gb card (FAT16) and it boots just fine....
The 8Gb card seems just fine as I can mount it under Windows and Linux, copy files, read files, etc. all normal.
So I'd be interested to hear about your many "small alternative fixes"
P.S. Also tried Mini Partition Wizard (following ktmt suggestion) under Windows, but did not work either.
SAME thing happened to me what i did is flashes some kdz files in hope to freshen up the phone and it worked for me
I think you will find that for a larger card, you really need at least a class 6 card so that the card doesn't cause a bottle neck. A class 4 card may be too slow for that size card. I have heard of a few people getting rid of any card problems they had by using a faster card.

OK I'll try this, just need to get around to buying a class 6 card. I got similar advice on the Android Forums i.e. class 4 cards for large sizes (8Gb and up) being too slow for this phone.

This did not solve the problem, I think it's just the class 4 card being too slow.
I've similar problem. My brother and i have LG GT540. I've 16GB SD-Card and my brother has a 8 GB SD-Card.
In his phone 8 GB SD-Card doesn't work correctly but in my phone works fine. I didn't know what is damaged, his phone or SD-Card
In brother phone, SD-Card doesn't format correctly and after this process, phone won't mount SD-Card and i get notification that SD-card is empty or damaged ;/
I will trying my 16 GB SD-Card into brother phone.

[Q] SD card formatting after WP7

I have problems formatting my SD card back to FAT after WP7 install. I have tried multiple solutions which were posted here but nothing helps. Things I've tried:
Boot into MAGLDR, select USB MassStrg, format with Panasonics SD formatter.
sd card don't even appear as a disk in my computer, so i can't select it in SD formatter. (i've installed HTC sync and android api in case there were problems with drivers, but no luck)
I've tried to format using Clockwork Mod via AD Recovery.
No luck here as well (Error could not mount sdcard). However an extra drive appeared in My Computer, thou it was faded out and sayon that no media present
Installed Windows Mobile, it couln't format the car as well, and it didn't appear as a drive in My Computer.
After all that i assumed that the card is toast. But after installing WP7 back, it did recognize the card and could use it without any problems. Is there anything else i can do, or should I just by a new card?
The SD Card is locked and somebody (at least the ROM creator) should have warned you...
You can only unlock it with a Nokia E-Series Phone or N95 as they can format it without to look if its locked or not.
A cheaper solution is available at Ebay, but be warned I haven´t tested it so far
Search for "ezSD Ghost Unlock Clip for MicroSD / SDHC unlock", sorry I am not allowed to post the direct link due to the newbie restrictions.
search some more, there are a lot of guides on how to "fix" your sd card after you've used WP7 on the HD2. believe me there are a LOT of such threads!
also, i think there is an option somewhere in MAGLDR, something like "fix sd card MBR"...try that.
finally, if you want to use any desktop software to try to fix the sd card, it is better to remove the sd card from the HD2 and insert it into a card reader. i am saying this because i noticed you mentioned that you tried to use the panasonic formatter while the sd card was mounted via usb cable via MAGLDR's usb disk mode.
EDIT: i used google keywords "xda hd2 sd card after wp7" and clicked first result to get to this lively discussion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912528
The easiest and quickest way is to use "MiniTool Partition Wizard", the home edition works perfectly fine. Put your SD card into your reader, open the program, you will see the SD card there. Delete the partitions that are on there and click apply, it will empty the card, and will have no partitions/data, just blank. Then install your android build partition scheme through CWM.

WP7 locks the SD card and makes it totally unusable. If you had installed XBMOD ROM for WP7, then you will have to reinstall wp7 again and use storage unlock cab. Else, simpler is to use Nokia smartphones (E63) works too, to format the card.
It for sure does not show in any other program.

I confirm I've got back in use my microSD card by formating it with an E series Nokia(I don't remember which model, I'm not familiar with)!
from wht i can understand is tht ur card is not detected at all d reason is clear d filesystem tht wp7 makes on sd card is not recognised by d windows n hence it doesnt recognise one way to sort out dis prob is by using GParted its a partition manager n if u hav ever used ubuntu(linux) u can get it thru d same. Just go to gaprted slect ur sc card frm d drop down (as it ll show ur hdd n sdcard as 2 diff. storage) wen u select it u ll c a black partition(unknown) just delete it(also if der r any other parition delete it) after that right click on unallocated space n select new partition select d filesystem as fat32 n ur done reboot d pc n ur card ll b detected back in windows

i tied it in the xpressmusic nokia , still doesnt work
maybe it works on cards that ran nodo OS and before, and not the new mango /tango OS?
Hm, I had the Problem only after i broke up the first boot... Normal Minitool sees two Partitions, but after this only unusable Space...
I used this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510444
Here the way i fixed it:
1. Go to Services and Clear SD MBR.
2. Boot Windows, but hold vol down at the 1234 Message.
3. confirm the Factory Reset.
4. Let it boot
5. No you can delete or creat Partitions with Minitool, or simply format it with SD Formater, that makes one big Partition.
If don´t work with your rom, try the ROM in the Link...
I hope it works for you too...

i may be afraid my sdcard may be defective in addition to being locked by wp7.
i tried in a variety of nokia devices, none is working
if that's the case your card "might" be really defective or there are some serious encryption on that thing :silly:

though i read in another wp7 forum with an obscure topic on it.
its was stated that the formatting technique only worked on the card on NODO.
It seesm that it doesnt work on sdcards which have mango installed.

Windows, twrp or app.
I've always been under the impression that it's preferable to format cards to FAT32 as long as the file size limit isn't an issue. I imagine that the benefit wouldn't be terribly significant, but I'm in the habit of reformatting new cards to FAT32 due to my impression that there's at least some benefit towards performance (I use FolderMount heavily, mostly for huge games and I've never noticed decreased performance from keeping the obb files on external storage).
I'd be curious to hear your take @ashyx in any case, but I actually just got a new 128 GB card yesterday that I was opening up to reformat it with GParted when I read this post  I've been debating setting up a MultiSystem setup on my Note 4 (I'd actually prefer to use my S2 for that... All of the listed "supported devices" happen to be the variants with Qualcomm chips. Another element that they share is that they are all supported by ROMs other than stock... So I suppose that my 817T is "less than ideal" for that purpose!) I think I'm going to include a small ext4 partition anyway in case I do end up using my phone to multiboot. It's pretty likely that I will at some point, and having the partition scheme set up already and just swapping cards sure beats adding a partition to a populated disk... Here's the MultiSystem thread in case you're not familiar. Looks like an awesome tool... http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tool-multirom-recovery-replacement-t3102395
@Phurkus Most cards come already formatted as exfat, at least those on the higher end of the storage spectrum. If you need to reformat it depends which OS you're using. Windows supports exfat natively, so all you need to do is right click on the disk, select "format", then just make sure that the dialog box that pops up has exfat selected (it should, NTFS is the only other option), you can leave "quick format" checked, type in a name if you want, then just hit start. If you want to format a filesystem to FAT32 though, there are a few small free utilities that you can use. The only one I've used myself is called Rufus. This isn't really necessary for formatting an entire device to a single partition of a common filesystem type, but I almost always use a Linux system for disk partitioning. The tools available are (generally) far more powerful, but the learning curve is a bit steeper depending on how/what you're doing and there can be a greater risk of data loss if your disk isn't blank (or if you're spacing out and wipe a local partition need for your OS installation)! Anyway, the free Windows utilities are just fine for simply reformatting a disk

READ THIS REPLY FULLY, THEN DO YOUR FORMATTING AS POSTED IN THE MIDDLE SECTION OF THIS POST.
Windows 7,
Click Start
In the search type in "CMD" (without quotes)
In the results, top of search window, CMD will appear Don't click enter...right click CMD and "Run as administrator ". CMD window opens (black background).
Type:
diskpart (hit enter)
List disk (hit enter)
...you will now see a list of hard drives, thumb drives, and memory cards in this result of list disk . Pay attention to the size of the sd card your working with. Results may be...
Disk 0 500 GB. (PC hard drive)
Disk 1 64 GB (64 GB micro SD card)
500 might show 480 something.. same with 64 showing 58.. you got the idea.
The disk 0 will be your 500 GB hard drive for the PC. You will NOT chose disk 0.
This above is an example. The size I said is an example. It is easy to do. Dont get scared
Again,
diskpart ( hit enter )
List disk ( hit enter )
Select disc 1 ( if one is your sd card, from example above )
clean ( hit enter, time to wait you won't be able to type a letter if PC is still doing this ' work' just wait / for a deep clean you can type ' clean all ' (longer, like an hr )
create partition primary /or.. creat part prim ( hit enter )
active ( hit enter )
format quick fs=exfat ( hit enter ) (this is your type of format, exfat or you can fat32 or.. if you want a In depth format type ' format fs=exfat ' notice 'quick' was removed.
exit ( hit enter )
exit ( hit enter )
You can now remove the sd card from PC and put in your device. It is now erased and formatted to exFAT.
-------------
ONCE AGAIN,
CMD right click run as administrator, important to be admin.
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
clean
creat prim part
active
format fs=exfat
exit
exit
EXACTLY AS I HAVE TYPED.
You can
format quick fs=exfat
Diskpart is a program to do work on disks.
list disk is listing disks connected to the PC.
select disk, is chosing a disk to only work on in this diskpart program.
clean, is erasing get the disk and cleaning it.
creat prim part ( short for create primary partition) making the disk a partition for primary use. Since no specific custom size was typed, the whole disk is being marked as a primary partition.
active, is activating the disk (personally don't know if NEEDED but I think it can be a key factor to make it work. I'm just posting what I read from a master)
format fs=exfat, is formatting get the disk to exFAT. You can chose .. format fs=fat32 if you want FAT32 format.
exit, is exiting the diskpart
exit is exiting the CMD.
Dont add or miss spaces in the commands.
When choosing a mistake disk like the windows 7 main disk, it won't work. Your using Windows and running CMD from the Windows folder , since the PC is not going to erase itself you will probably get an error . IF you chose another none Windows Disk, it will work and erase and format that chosen disk. Chose carefully.
If all fails ( hard to mess up if you simply follow my directions ) just type exit to exit diskpart, and exit again out of CMD.
It is real simple and it is the way to erase, activate and format a sd card / micro SD card. I just did this on mine yesterday.

MICRO SD CARD SPEEDS ON SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB S2......
As far as speeds go, my Samsung PRO+ 32 GB micro SD card class 10, U3, UHS-I is showing get speeds of:
Read 60
Write 30
Read 63
Write 35
Tests done on an empty card at home.
With the card used, 15 GB left, I'm showing, my results were
Read 61
Write 26.
Keep in mind my WiFi is cable, @ 60 down 7 up.
In BestBuy
I got
Read 60
Write 47
When I was in best buy complaining to Samsung, using there WiFi.
I bought a 64 GB micro SD card SanDisk ULTRA Plus, class 10, U1, UHS-I
The format out the box was, ( exFAT with a 16mb unallocated partition on the 64GB micro SD card.)
16mb of the space was not formatted and separate from the rest of the size. I'm not sure why? For self device cache? For ' alignment '?
I formatted using the above method. The entire space is now exFAT.
The card SanDisk ULTRA PLUS, came with exFAT format being 64gb.. the Samsung PRO+ 32GB was FAT32.
Results of the SanDisk ULTRA PLUS is,
Read 55
Write 15-18
The Samsung PRO+ is a Read 95, Write 90 card...4k video card.
The SanDisk ULTRA PLUS card is supposed to be 80/80 on bestbuy.com but on SanDisk website 80/40-50 (?) I forgot.
Either way, This testing get was done with the app suggested in the earlier posts in this thread and used the (full test) where you reboot the device. As mentioned.
I see a discrepancy in the test results differing from different WiFi. BestBuy's WiFi showed more Write in the public Store WiFi then my house.
I don't believe this app is fully correct, also, adds are running using the app, one can turn off the adds for "3 hrs". The fact the different Write speeds from location to location concerns me about this way of testing. No disrespect to the poster. I appreciate your input.
It is too bad I don't see a better app?
If anyone else would test, please use this app and the full test results. You have to change the settings of the app to show advanced test options or there is just one 'normal' test.
In my conclusion sofar, if you use the 'best', or 'most expensive ' card, your test scores ( Write speed ) will be more. A difference from SanDisk ULTRA PLUS Write 15, to Samsung PRO+ Write 30, is a difference for me to make a decision.
Currently prices (on sale at BestBuy )
SanDisk ULTRA PLUS 64GB= 24.99
Samsung PRO+ 64GB= 49.99
Double the price. FYI the SanDisk EXTREME PLUS 64GB is 49.99.
Why is it necessary to go through all that when all that is required is to right click, select format then choose exFAT?
Or let TWRP format it.

Wondered the same after posting exactly that directly above... partitioning via command line introduces too much potential for error when simply reformatting an entire disk to a single partition IMO.
