[Q] Swype missing keys? - Epic 4G General

On my Epic, running QuantumRom 2.7, Swype seems to be missing certain letters at different times. Just now, I tried to type "I'm" by swiping from I to M on the keyboard, but Swype is not catching the I, and will only highlight J or K, forcing a weird word like "Km"
Also, sometimes I will be swiping for another word, and it will assume I did a short press to insert a letter, then start recognizing swiping. Example: Swiping "Hello" may insert "H elli"
Anyone else hit these issue? Is there a fix?
Thanks.

Yeah, mine started doing that the other day. Almost like the screen isn't picking up my movements any longer.

yea mines been doing this for a little, and sometimes after i pick a word, it puts it in caps lock by itself

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I had the same issue last night trying to swipe "copy".
I would hit C, feel the phone recognize the press with the haptic feedback, but right when I went to swipe away to O, Swype put the C, then pick up other characters.
Anyone know of a fix? It seems intermitted but when it happens it is very frustrating.

Spacebar intermittently not working when texting - Help/Fix

When I'm typing (in portrait mode) a lot of time when I press the SPACEBAR (and I'm in a groove, so I'm typing somewhat fast, but DEFINATELY hitting the spacebar and it's showing that it's being hit) it doesn't register, so I have no spaces between words.. I have to actually pause for a moment after I hit the spacebar so it will register...
Is anyone else having this problem...?
Is there a fix for it?
I have a stock hd2 (not unlocked or anything).
same issue stock or not it sounds like you have came from a iphone like me and can type faster then the keyboard knows what to do with so yeah idk a fix but
+1
yeah, but it's not my speed (I mean, I am typing faster that the phone can process for the most part), the spacebar is registering when I type, but if I don't pause for a second, it doesn't register the space.. it doesn't do this with any keys except for the spacebar..
oh, btw, it's doing the same thing in landscape mode too.. so it's just a universal problem on here for me.
lol yup
its the same here i mean there are keyboard sensitivity tweaks out there but its still not enough lol when i get pissed off and i am texting its too fast lol

Random Things you may not know about your EPIC 4G...?

So it doesnt seem as though there is a thread like this for the Epic.
I figured this would be a good place to list a bunch of random things you've found while "tinkering" with you Epic 4G.
Example:
While in Camera mode, if you hit the power button it locks the camera. No buttons can be pushed until you "Unlock" the camera by pressing the power button once more. I figured this allows you to keep the camera app open without snapping random shots, so that when you are ready the camera app is readily available.
This same method works in the video player function...I found this out cus I have a 2 year old that loves to watch his cartoons on my phone. Well he always tends to touch the screen and it usually interrupts the vid (streaming)...so now I just lock the video player (push the power button while video is playing) and now he can touch it all he wants and it wont interrupt the vid!
What else do you guys/gals know about this AWESOME phone!!???

I just found out if you workout with your epic resting against your skin, you're risking it might get water damaged.
Here's something:
If you press down on the notifications tab at the top of your phone, and slide it to either the left or right, you can toggle the brightness (if it is set to MANUAL, and you can do this under the phone's settings).

SALTwater damage.
Learn to sweat distilled water. It's much safer for electronics
When on your contact list, swipe left to text or right to call that contact.

I never knew the phone had a front facing camera until 2 weeks ago. I've had the phone since soon after it came out

Seriously? Holy ****e dude, that was one of the key things the Epic had over the other guys.
Well, I knew this but some may not. On the physical keyboard, if you double press the "Shift" or "FN" keys, it does "Caps lock" and "Function Lock"

i recently learned that if you dial a number and hit the call icon this thing will actually make phone calls!!! f00king amazing, here i just thought it ran apps, played games, video and movies.

Confirmed. Wow I Just tried this and it's pretty amazing! +11111111
Here's another one that's semi-useful.
This will only work with the stock SWYPE keyboard. Now there are some complications usually when trying to copy/paste text with androids. If you have a keyboard, you can easily hold "shift" and swype across the text you are trying to copy.
Well with the SWYPE keyboard, if you do not want to open up the physical keyboard, you have the option of pressing the "i" button at the bottom (next to SYM) and if you hold that and swype on over to SYM and back to the "i" button, a menu with several different commands will show up. I'm not too familiar with how to use it, but I know it gives you the option to copy/paste, move up and down and select text fairly easy.

Funny sh|t... a shrink actually told me that she has teen clients who get in trouble, and lose their text priveledges, and are really going crazy, shrink suggests just making a voice call... the kid looks terrified, to call their 'best friend'...I really hope FFCs can help this... thats just sad. Its not even basement dwellers either, these are 'popular kids'.... I think Skynet has already won. Anyways, what phone are you getting next????

No need to swype back to the "i" button. Swyping from the "i" button over to the SYM button brings up the same options. Gives you arrow keys which are pretty awesome to use. Also, if you swype from the "i" button over to the "F" key, it brings up a nice keypad for you to input numbers/symbols.
Also, while on the topic of swyping, here are some other cool things:
If you want to capitalize a letter, you swype from that letter off of the swype keyboard entirely and then continue swyping. So if you wanted for some reason to type CaT, you would swype from the "c" key off of the keyboard entirely and then over to the "a" key and then over to the "t" key and then off the keyboard entirely again.
If you want to hit a double letter, like the two o's in Google, you swype from the "g" over to the "o" and swirl around on it for a second and then continue swyping the rest of the word. The swirling around doubles whatever key you are swirling over.

just swiping from the swype(or i/info depending on your version/rom/theme) key to sym alone will open that layout.
heres another swipe shortcut
start at the swype/info key then swipe diagonaly to the upper right and let go when your past the keyboard layout.... This will open the numerical keypad.
last one it got (that i can think of at the moment)
you can usually simulate a battery pull/force reset if your softlocked by holding cam+vol_up+power... saved me some hassle when i had a hard case on my epic many times when experimenting with roms/kernel/tweaks.
UPDATE:
muyoso has apparently tapped into my brain and beat me to it LOL... and sombish... yeah u can just swipe from the info to the f and get numerical keypad also

Typing Lag and cursor jumping around while typing?

Anyone have this issue? I literally cant even type this post without having to go back and correct everything...Cursor jumps back mid sentence a lot and inputs words accidently etc...does overclocking fix this issue? Can I overclock if already on 3.1?
Thanks!
i have a terrible time typing on webforms.
do you have the dock ? if so turn off the trackpad using the 4th button from the top left
this works a treat making the cursor stay where it damn should, you have to go back to jabbing the screen but it means pain free inputing when you need to.

For this forum change the theme to classic. It fixes the lag completely.

Not for me. Nothing has helped. It's not just here, it typing an any webform anywhere on the web. It might be slightly better in some places but it never goes away. I went to the mall and tested 3 other brand tablets yesterday and none had this problem.
Touch the screen, wait for mouse to dissapear to start typing.
I use SwiftKey keyboard and I can barely see any lag, and the predictions are the best.

I am having the exact same issue. I have tried the stock browser and Firefox. I'm running android 4.0 ICS (it came with that upgrade). I mainly use it without the dock attached, so that can't be an issue.
Overall it is very laggy for typing and starting to type into text fields. I have to click then wait several seconds before typing and randomly while typing, it will get "backed up" and characters will stop appearing for a moment.
Generally I can type okay without the cursor jumping around...that is, unless I make a mistake and want to go back and fix it. Then trying to point the cursor at the right letter is nearly impossible because it jumps all over while dragging (and just doing one single tap makes the cursor go in unpredictable spots). Even if I get it to the right spot I can only type one letter then the next letters will start type at the bottom / end of the text field.
I realize this thread is old, did anybody get to the bottom of this?

Touchscreen and Typing Bug

This just started happening today....when I start typing in any app (falcon pro, whatsapp, txt or email), after the 1st couple of letters it goes right back to the home screen and I have to go back to the app and continue typing.
Is this happening to anyone?
Its getting annoying real quickly.
I have rebooted and changed to the google keyboard and it still happens.
Help!!
Happens to me sometimes when i type fast......but i found out that its my fingers hitting the home button when i press space. Your phone is fine. You just need to get adjusted to the keyboard. You might want to download and use Googles keyboard instead of LGs, if you havent alrrady done so. Im more familiar with Googles layout....perhaps you are as well
Edit: sorry, didnt notice that you are using googles keyboard already
Try this....while you type, follow your fingers instead of looking at the screen....im 90% sure you are hitting the home button like i do

When I have gestures on and I'm typing fast my phone will jump back to the home screen. I'm thinking it's me dragging my thumb up when I hit the space bar anyone else having this issue?

Yeah it happens mostly when I'm talking to my gf (Facebook messenger) lol, but it has only happened like 1 or two times so not a big deal.
Happens all the time with me. I sure wish they brought calibration back. It might help with all the text issues I have.
