My trackball and powerbutton were driving me crazy so I decided to tear down my n1 and clean it up. Everything went well, they both work fine now but in the process i managed to scratch the led flash chip.
turns out, our leds are not white they are blue and there is some sort of filter painted over the chip that make it white. So now I have a blue led that messes up all photos taken with it on
Does anybody know what kind of filter/paint that is on the chip? or where I can get a new replacement part? (tried ebay but there were no led/flash chips for sale)
You can't "filter out" white from blue. that's nonsense.
Your LED is broken.
Its more likely that the scratch you made is causing some light refraction which makes it look blue.
As previously stated, you can't filter white from blue.

Unlike pigments, white light is made up of quantities of other wavelengths (colors) of light. So, you can't get white from filtering blue. You can get blue by filtering white. You're probably thinking pigments (paint) where you can get white by filtering out other color pigments from the paint.
The led is not broken and its not nonsense. It was partially scratched (the white stuff on the led) so it was shining part blue part white (you could see it clearly if you put it against a white paper, a square part blue part white). So when i removed the rest of the white stuff, which was very easy to do, the whole led now has a deep blue color.
I am not a moron, if you are so sure try removing the white grease from your led and see if it turns blue..

i will post a pic of my led chip so you can compare it with the one from ifix teardown of the n1, youll see the white stuff im talking about. dont know what or how, but it makes the blue led white :\
Not sure if this is of any help, but I had read somewhere that when our flashes experience "burn-in" (over use... such as flashlight) they turn blue.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphor#White_LEDs
So you seem to have managed to schatch that white light emitting coating.
I am not sure how difficult it is to get hold of those white SMD LED's in small quantities. Maybe from some other otherwise broken device from ebay?
A frightening number of people have no clue how white LED's work here. Yikes...
OP is 100% accurate. He scratched the coating off his LED that emits the white light, and it is now blue (the original color of the LED).
OP, the only way to repair this is to replace the LED. Sorry man...

OP is 100% wrong.
The coating emits a whole new range of wavelength which produce the white "color" when combined.
You don't get the white color by filtering out the blue - but rather you transfer energy to a different substance, by shining a blue light onto it. that in turn, produces the white light. It's not a filtering process at all.
And the conclusion is also the same, his LED needs replacing.
Thanks everybody for your help and thanks draugaz and GldRush98 for clearing that up!
Will look for an replacement led or just live with it (don't use the flash that often anyway).
Cheers all!

Not to stir the pot, but I don't think the OP is 100% percent wrong. It is a blue LED (that by some method) emits white (or white-ish) light. Maybe he didn't understand the method.
BTW, if it is not a filter, what do they call the process of "transfer[ing] [light ]energy to a different substance" to change the visible spectrum of light from one color to another? What is the correct technical term?

Scintillation is the technical term for what is going on in the LED's coating.

I think that technically white is the absence of any color.
Black would be a mixture of all colors.
Kinda hard to add any other color with black to get white.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_white_the_absence_of_all_color_or_the_presence_of_all_color
But that's if you are talking about physical paint.
However if you are talking about light it's the opposite.

I know that I read somewhere that the nexus could do this bc it had white which they said was every color. Oh well

Actually White is pure(light) or Absent(color)
Black is the absent of color(light) and i think its just mash when it comes to color...
So I would only guess that since the led for the track ball is white it could possibly have Base colors ???

I really doubt that it has the ability to operate with different colors. I hope that someone proves me wrong though.
I used to have a blackberry 8100, and it was white but underneath there were multi-color LED's and you could change the color but this was removed in later BB pearls, best bet to figure this out would be to pop the trackball out (dibbs out) and do some physical inspection to see whats all behind there.

2 screws holding frame/boards to screen
gently pry the screen connection away with a small flathead (no clips or anything holding it in place) just a really sticky piece of foam adhesive.

You made that look easy. And I must say, you have some guts ripping your MyTouch apart. I wasn't able to hear anything in your video though. Perhaps something's up with my laptop. Anyway... any sign of other trackball colors?
unless u cant get the led's that are already there to produce a diff. color then your stuck with white, because they are all the same under the trackball.
P.s. that probably the 10th time I have had that thing apart. Its my old one that has a crack in the lower board somewhere and it messes with e the sensors
This thread actually delivered solely on the kindergarden comedy in it haha, my sidekick would blink every incluing white, but i am positive our phones just have a white led, but man one can hope.

So the specs noted that the LED notification light was "tri-color" but none of the reviews that I've seen have indicated if it's a true RGB LED capable of producing multiple colors. I'm so used to having different colors for different notifications on my N1, I'd hate to be limited to 3 colors on the Atrix.

Actually... All I've gotten is green.
blackberries also have a multi colored led but always shows red. Fortunately, there are apps (free and paid) that will let you tinker with it.
sure hope there will be one for this phone.
I think it has rgb, and then a white led
Its got a white led when charging, green for notifications, blue for calls, and red when theres a low battery. Use the app 'led tester' off the market to test the leds, its a pretty neat app. I like 'led disco' because it flashes all the colors and goes through them all. With the red, green, and blue led you can produce any color you want.

2. Red for low battery
3. White - can't remember the condition
I have not seen blue. The Bravo does have blue though.

I always run my stuff down until it dies once every couple of months - i did the Atrix early.
So far battery life is great - i played with it all weekend and it is one solid phone.

Exactly. Even when I plug in my phone I don't see any light go on. :S
I'm using GoSMS which has an option to change the led color of it's capable.
I was able to see blue when connecting my bluetooth headset to it. It only flashes when it makes the initial connection.
So far I've seen red, blue, green, and a purpleish color. I came from my BB with the BeBuzz app, and it was easy to tell which one of my contacts were calling/texting me from the colors I had assigned.
I was able to use LED lights on Touchdown app..Blue, Red & of course Green.
Okay, let's try asking the question a different way to get an answer we all are looking for.... what FREE app works to change the color of the LEDs and isn't an add-on or skin to SMS or Email? I'm looking for something just like Blink that actually works for this phone!
EDIT - Well what do you know, it DOES work as long as you read the damn instructions! UNPLUG the phone.... click Menu > LED Manager > choose a color > check to test color > TURN OFF SCREEN ON PHONE...... all six colors - RED, GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, PURPLE, and TURQUOISE all work when you follow those steps! Pretty awesome
<== can be an idiot sometimes....

Mine was red when the battery level dropped to 10%.
Hi guys,
I just purchased 2 GS3's. One black and one titanium grey. On the 1st night i put then to charge i noticed the black phone's led was shining brighter (red) while charging but i though it might just look brighter as its on a darker surface. Then i noticed that the titanium grey GS3 was not displaying the correct colours for notifications. So i went into setting and changed the notification colours and realised all light colours were not displayed properly, for e.g.. white is displayed as a light blue.
Does anyone know a fix for this (bedsides taking it back as i got them both from abroad) ?
Had anyone else experienced something like this?
Also just to mention it seems like the on/off button has a different feel to it (does not have that click/spring) to it as the black GS3 and also the camera does not seem as sharp.
Any info will be appreciated !

Yes i agree there are 3 colours while charging.
While both phones were charging (red led) it was noticeably brighter on the black phone.
Concerning the white led light on whatsapp messenger its supposed to be white (i know you can change the colour in the app settings). On the grey phone it displays the white led light as a light blue. If i change the app notification colour to display a yellow led light it displays it in a greenish colour.
To cut a long story short the led notification light is not displaying the correct colours......
I have changed different custom Roms so i know its not software !

Try *#0*# on your titanium grey s3 and check if it displays the correct led
It's probably a mis-balance of the voltages to the LED. This could be a driver chip or resistor out of tolerance. Nothing you can do about it except replace the phone. I doubt that they would seriously consider exchanging it for a minor fault like this.

Thanks Vineet all working correctly.
OK i took both the black phone and grey phone and observed them both closely . I have realised that the led light on the black phone is visible when off but on the grey phone its nearly invisible when off. It seems they covered the led with the grey colour of the phone and maybe thats why it doesn't show the correct colours.
Im not sure if that makes sense, its hard to explain.
It would be nice if someone else with a grey S3 would comment.

Red, green and blue all display properly but not as bright as on the black phone. Its only the light colours that are not correct like white and yellow.

I think it's the lighting in there.

Got my Solar Red unit today and I am very pleased, if not as ecstatic as I had hoped. From videos and photos online, I assumed it would be that darker red/orange color most of the time too. However, the "default" color in typical lighting is more of a salmon/watermelon/wine color, though it definitely does go deep red/orange in certain lighting and angles. I would probably be happy with either the sapphire blue or solar red, but I'm glad I waited for the latter.

Yeah mine is the same way. I did notice that the phone is darker red outdoors, so its likely just a lighting thing. I am still happy with it, I just didn't know if I got a dud or not since it was so different in person.
You guys had me worried for a moment, mine arrived today and I love the colour, it's as good as expected for me, look forward to seeing it in various different lighting conditions.
Mine is a little less red than I was expecting too, but I'm not complaining.
I like that mine is a little less red then I was expecting. It's more refreshing then the pure red I thought it might be.
I think it looks pink or salmon most of the time. It turns a cool yellow/gold at many different angles but in normal office light, it looks pink/salmon. I was disappointed that it wasn't really red.
Love my red U11. It's also a lighter red than I was expecting, but it still looks fantastic!
The color is less red then advertised but still beautiful. Of course the color is different because it's glass and not plastic or metal like we've used too.
It definitely looks better than my wife's Amazing Silver which is light blue :silly:

I really love my Solar Red and I, too, have the Spigen Liquid Crystal case, which I actually quite like (after migrating from HTC's leather protective case).
I dig the hell out of my Solar Red. It does look salmon colored but only in these TPU cases which dull the hell out of the shiny. I think without the case it really does look like Stark's armor in Iron Man I. So .. I named it Jarvis. I'm probably going to do an ultra clear skin. I don't drop phones and haven't broken a screen ever but I don't want that shiny back scratched. I dig this phone a lot and I can't really find fault with it. The wife is thinking about getting the blue model since she's more into that color.
Love the solar red. Love the colour red. Here’s my comparison with my solar red, iPhone 7 Plus Product Red and a red sofa
https://gavinsgadgets.com/2017/08/1...d-vs-iphone-7-plus-product-red-vs-a-red-sofa/
Same as everyone else. Not really red. More pink/gold. Not really that good looking. Not impressed.
The back protector that came with the phone is also pretty horrible and distorts the little colour there is. (Also scratches very easily).
