[Q] Stock on USB Mount with Wall Charger - Epic 4G General

Notification bar shows usb mount and debuging blinking can't even click on that,
when charge is plug in is gone, also when unplug battery is hot like is charging with same notification usb plug in. Sometimes I use aftermarket wall chargers that when plug in comes up usb plug in mount, charge etc I think is left over from that. Looking for remedy, as going to stock and reroot will be my last resort but what should I try first.
dito33

if i'm understanding correctly, because this happened to me, the "connected to USB" and/or debug notification keeps flashing at the top when the phone is unplugged?
turning off the phone, removing the microSD card and rebooting made it go away. Reinsert the microSD after you confirm the craziness has stopped.

That is exactly what was going on and yes removing and inserting microSD card
cure the problem, also my spare batt works now, before would not boot.
You sir are my savior, I was just about to wipe everything off and start from scratch, Thank You Very Much.

Oops start doing again when moved a couple of pics from one directory to another. Now even if I do the trick wont help and even with another card doing it if I take the card out works fine.

doh, that sucks.. When it happened to me, I was on the first froyo leak, DI18 I think, and the previously mentioned reboot trick worked for me at least up until I switched to DK28.. I haven't seen the problem since..
Sorry, I don't have any other advice to offer

I'm on DK17 and changed a couple of roms images that I saved of the similar no change I am thinking going DK28 before turn the phone to sprint for new one.

DK17 is an old leak. DK28 was released a couple weeks later and all development moved there. Not much was done with DK17 since it was crammed between DK05 and DK28.
And don't return a phone to Sprint with DK28 on it. I hope I'm reading your post wrong. If you bring it in to sprint it better have DI18 or older on it.

I've tried all that before this happened and went back to DK17 for the reason
I found my phone to be the most stable with no issues.
I will go back to stock before I turn my phone to sprint but my question is what
do I do with the microSD card if they try to repair the phone and open to see what is in there (card) that my avoid warranty. I guess will put another blank card since it does the same with any card.

Having a strange problem with usb to computer

My vibrant acts like its not connected to any computer I plug it into
I've tried two different cords and two different computers. One of them being a mac and the other being a PC
I've tried every usb port on both. It's strange.
I'm on Bionix 1.6. Should I restore back to stock and then reflash and see what happens?
Has anyone had this happen to them?
I seen somewhere that you need samsung drivers but I don't have a link for you. Personally I did the tedious task of sticking my sd in an usb adapter but I switched to wireless transfer after a week of that. Android phone drivers in general didn't load for me on Win7 64bit.

You got the Drivers installed right? soft reset your phone ? If that does not work, back up hard reset and check again. If still not working I say return it..

Yeah I have the drivers
Did the soft and hard reset
Can't return it since I got it off of a guy on somethingawful
It's whatever though i got a good deal on it and it still works great. I'll figure it out some day
I'm running windows 7 Ultimate and it works just fine, but whenever I use a different computer or a Mac I get the same problem. I tried almost everthing.
Are you running JI5/JI6 ? I have the same problem with these builds. I remember someone else had the same problem as well, could be a bug. What happens when you go into USB settings of phone and select/deselect mass storage option?
This is going to sound really really really weird but I fixed it somehow
I put the disable lagfix into the voodoo folder and rebooted my phone and plugged it into my brothers ps3 and then suddendly I could mount my phone to my computer again.
Even stranger I deleted the disable lagfix file and rebooted my phone and let it do its thing and now my USB is completely working again.
Anyone have any ideas about this? I've done the disable thing before when I was trying to fix it but never plugged it into the ps3
I'm glad I was messing with my phone when the battery was at 20 percent!

Fried USB?

I guess **** happened...
At morning taking phone from the dock, I noticed some apps FC. And it continued sporadically along day, so at one point I simply decided to reboot. Phone turned of fine... However I was unable to turn it on immediately after. It was showing black battery. Whatever I did no dice. I even tried my wifes phone battery.
That happened on the road, so at one point I decided to plug it in. Oh miracle - phone booted with power!!! But then my troubles worsened, because I've noticed that it always shows USB connected, starts desk home in night mode, shows battary constantly charging. Stuff like this. I've tried factory reset, reflash to stock DJ05. Nothing helped. Now it getting worse, because screen started to blink when on power...
Does it sounds familiar to somebody? Need to replace?
After trying everything I can imagine, it is kind of obvious that I have HW failure. My problem is that in order to return it back to Verizon I need to have DI01. I did backup from recovery before flashing DJ05.
All this is fine, however I'm not sure if this backup will restore radio. I guess not. If not, how I can flash one? I'm having problems to get in download mode and I think ODIN is unable to detect port. Do we have radio zip i can flash with recovery?
My first fascinate had the same problem, had to return it.

It seems like USB is still alive, at least partially. After countless attempts I managed to connect it computer in download mode and flashed DI01. At first it looked like it fixed the problem... However now USB indicator changes on and off constantly. If you turn it off it reappears in a few seconds. Only upside is that comp sees it and I now have unrooted DI01.
Sad. My phone was in mint condition after over 3 months of usage. Who knows what kind of refarb I'll get.

Weird Occurance.

Okay; so last night I unplugged my phone at 100% right as I went to sleep. I do this on a regular basis so nothing new.
I wake up this morning to my phone being turned off/dead. I attempt to turn it on after plugging it into the wall..and it got stuck on the boot logo and would vibrate in short bursts.
Weird; because I haven't flashed anything in a few weeks and everything seemed stable.
I pull the battery and reboot the phone..seems to work.
But as the phone powers on; the screen to log in to my account pops up to restore my data etc etc..
And guess what happens next? Force closes for every app I have install..no structural fc's.. just happens when I try opening ANY app installed.
I did try running Dolphin Browser through the phone's cache and moving the cache to my SD Card. Didn't work with it in the phone; but moving it to SD card allowed it to work for a bit then it crashed.
I fixed it by re-flashing the current rom i was running. I am running ext4; was posting to see if anyone has come across this?
What rom were you on?
Sent from my Evo Killer!
I haven't seen or heard of this before but I would suggest a fresh install. Odin back to stock dk28 and redoing everything the manual way. It's a ***** but dollars to donuts it fixes your problems.
Sent from my ext4 Epic 4G running Bonsai4all 1.1.3!
Been running midnight 2.2 for a while now. And it supports ext4; before you shoot that down
@kenvan I already fixed the issue; I was just seeing if anyone else ran into this..and to try and find out what caused it. Wish I was home so I could of gotten a logcat :/

Issue with Atrix/Simcard - need help

I posted this in the Atrix Development forum under Gingerblur since that's what's currently on it, but it may just be a general Android issue so I'm reposting it here as well just in case:
OK I had something weird happen to my gf's phone yesterday. I don't know if this is Gingerblur related, but that's what's on it so I'm putting it here.
AT&T Atrix w/ Gingerblur 4.0 (Just haven't got around to going to 4.5)
So I put Gingerblur on it 2-3 months ago and it's been working great for her. So yesterday I was with her and we were going to install this market app (I can't remember what it was), but she hit Install on the market app, it changed to the OK button, but when she clicked OK, the button just flashed and just sat there and did nothing. i found that odd. So I had her see if she could sideload an app (not the same one) -so I downloaded it to the phone and clicked it to install it. I accepted it and it just said "Installing...." forever. So I told her OK the phone got out of whack or something let's just reboot it.
So we reboot it, and she complains that a lot of her apps show the default android icon for them (instead of their respective icon pics) and she can't run them. From what we noticed, these were all the apps that were moved with app2sd. Also, nothing will install from the market - you can get there, but you get the same symptoms as above. You can click "Install" on the app but when you click "OK" it doesn't do anything.
Under Settings/Manage Applications it shows all her apps installed so the phone still thinks all the apps are there. So I tell her to pick an app that she doesn't really care about and Uninstall it. She said that works, but trying to install it through the Market fails.
So she's freaking out. I tell her to let me at least back up what I can off the phone. So I try plugging the phone into my computer with the USB. I can't get the phone to be seen at all by the computer. I put the USB into Mass Storage mode/Nothing/etc, and even turn off/on USB Debugging - I just can't get this thing to be seen. So now I'm starting to worry.
We have an external SD card in the phone so I was able to start copying what I could under Setting/Files over to the SDcard.
Now all I'm thinking about is getting this phone working again so I'm starting to read how to recover the phone back to stock using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
So I'm able to get it into the recovery state. So as I'm downloading the SBF, I notice it says to remove the SIM card too. So I shut it down, and remove the SIM. I boot up the phone regularly and I notice everything is working now as it should (minus the phone since the SIM is out), but all apps are there and working correctly and the market works as it should.
So immediately I nab Titanium Backup from the market and start backing things up. I tell her to go through the list and start backing up what she thought was important. So I'm thinking this thing fixed itself, but when I put the SIM card back in, we're back to the broken state again.
So.. does anyone know what's going on here? It seems like the phone doesn't like her SIM card anymore, but she can still make calls with it aside from the rest of the phone issues with it in.
If we need to take this back to stock, I will - especially now that I was able to back things up with TB.

S4 Not Charging

Unplugged my phone this morning at 100%, went to charge it just now with factory charger and cable and nothing. Tried reboot and battery pull. Sitting at 60% right now. It's off in case I need to return to stock to exchange it. Any ideas?

I had a bad cable, it is not the phone...damn cables were cheaply made.
Tried 2 cables. When the phone is off I get the battery icon with the circle in it, but it just loops this icon. It comes up, vibrates, turns off repeatedly. I tried to wipe cache and it said error. I'm rooted, defrosted everything I had frozen.
What I don't understand is why I'm getting an error when trying to wipe cache partition.I unrooted, so as far as I know im now totally stock. Is it safe to try to do a factory reset?

Sounds like kernel panic. Whatever rooting/custom mod/ blabla you have on that device is either buggy, badly flashed or something like that.
You need to have a good connection to Odin established, flash only stock rom (the untouched version/odexed), let it reboot normally from Odin, and wait. (it is important to have at least 50% battery left, you don't want it to quite on you in the middle of a flash)
Doesn't matter if it doesn't go all the way and setup the first time. Just pull the batter (after Odin rebooted), go into recovery, cleanup everything, and reboot.
Thank should get you back in the world of the living ...

So just do exactly what is written in this thread then? Do I have to go that far or can I try a factory reset from recovery?
Thanks BTW

Easier things first, so if you haven't tried a factory reset yet then go ahead ( although that won't unroot you) try your factory reset first.
But then if your battery gets too low and still doesn't charged, you need to get it charged up first.
And yes that hotfile link is the original factory ROM dump, it is good.
That is the at&t stock file or you're on bell or rogers or ... get a samfirmware/sammobile account and download your ROM from there.
No dice on the factory reset, and I'm about 40%. I'm thinking I'm just going to exchange it. Device status says Official so I should be good, no?

you should be ok exchanging it although for most devices rooting voids the warranty
that was my main reason sending you the odin flashing route in case you wanted to exchange it but it is no big deal.
Well I'll be...
Did another factory reset from the settings menu this time, ON THE WAY to the AT&T store(while parked, of course), plugged it into the 'ol 12v and she fired right up. I agree about the kernel panic deal. I've had strange things happen before. The only thing that changed on my phone from last night until the no-charge state was the installation of SugarSync. It kept FC'ing so I uninstalled it. I think it may have changed some items deep deep in the areas of the OS that I know nothing about and it freaked out the bowels of Android.
Back when I had my Atrix 4G, I installed Dolphin Browser, and it sent my phone into a whirlwind of FC's.
Thank you for your assistance, Commodore.

That is always good to hear. thanks for reporting back.
Plus if you did reset it while you were driving, not that some people haven't ... , at&t will start making new screen stickers saying :
"don't factory reset your phones and drive ... it can wait".
Oh well. Since im a junkie and couldn't wait to re root, as soon as it charged back up I re rooted. All was well until I started freezing bloat, then it stopped charging. Got a replacement on the last day of the return period. Wish I knew what was causing this. Looks like im staying stock until we get recovery.

It's been a few days so I'm bringing this thread back from the grave, but I want to know if anyone else has experienced similar issues. It's really strange, what happened, and I'd like to know more about why it happened. I should have made a logcat but too late now. I'm not the type of person to experience something like that and take the easy way out with an exchange (I've experienced worse), but with my battery percent remaining an ODIN flash would have been risky at best. Like I said, everything was fine for days until I installed sugarsync.
I only froze bloat. Everything starting with AT&T, and some Samsung apps like S-Voice, ChatOn and push service.
Until I can figure this out or get custom recovery, I'm stuck stock because I'm not going to cheat again for another exchange.

I had exactly the same thing happen to my rooted s4. Took it back to the shop i bought it ( Unrooted ) and they replaced it.
Same here.
I get it to charge sometimes for about 10 minutes and then it'll disconnect.
USB via the PC doesn't work as well.
I think replacement is probably a safest bet.
We aren't the only ones either...
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/275276-galaxy-s4-wont-charge.html
This has just happened to me. I plugged it in last night with about 19% remaining, woke up this morning and it was at 7%-- hadn't charged. I tried a couple different chargers and cables, and nothing has worked so far. The charge has since dwindled to 4%. I'm running slimrom, and I guess I can't risk flashing back to stock since the battery is likely to die completely during the process.
When I did a shutdown and then plugged it in, I got the "charging" icon, of the battery with the green bar repeatedly moving up through it. But after leaving it for half and hour, I tried to boot it, and that was the point where it had gone from 7% to 4%, so apparently it wasn't really charging. Might have to buy another battery and see if that's the problem or the charging circuit in the phone.
---------- Post added at 03:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:48 PM ----------
Ok, so this is weird. I have been using some older chargers/cables that I had left over from my Captivate, and they've been working fine for a month, until now. But I went and got out the charger that came with the GS4 and tried that, and although the ROM still says "not charging/connect your charger", the battery % is increasing. Very strange.
I think u need to get back to stock rom to solve this issue..and u won't get warranty as your device is rooted even if u revert back to stock your bincounter will ramain same that's of you had flashed your device twice with custom rom your bin counter will be 2...so samsung can easily understand it by going into download mode...u can also see the number of bin counts by entering into download mode screen ....so u need to reset bin counter before taking it to customer care otherwise they will woid ur warranty:thumbup:
