What are kernels and how can they enhance my EVO? My evo is rooted and I'm running Myn's Warm Twopointwo. Bash me if you have to just throw in some answers too ^_^
Kernels control the CPU/gpu
They allow you to overclock or underclock.
It's the central-most part of your phone that controls communication between software and hardware. if anything happens on your phone, the kernel is involved.
the reason this is beneficial to you is you can tweak it to suite your needs. For instance, over in the dev section, they have kernels for balls-to-the-wall speed and power, or kernels for better battery life with slightly less performance and of course, middle-of the road all-around good kernels.
Just keep in mind, as you're flashing and experimenting with kernels, go SLOWLY. if you screw this up, you'll be very unhappy. I've been told that doing a full nandroid backup will backup the kernel as well and save you heartache if you screw something up.
good luck!

Rofl!! This made my day!
Simply put, kernels are drivers, much like your PC's video card, audio, keyboard drivers. It's the coding that translates software commands into hardware actions.
Lol @ KFC reference. So what will replacing them do for performance?

Kernels, well, it seems you kinda got your question answered, but ultimately they control the phone. How much battery is consumed, how fast the CPU is running, etc. And that guide that was posted was actually what I was going to link you to. It's some great information.
From my understanding kernels are very tasty with butter.

Just add butter & salt.
As stated, it's a layer of software between the rom (OS) and hardware. Some kernels are tastier than others.

Wow... that's nice! Hmmm... how was it done? I am confused on how it was flashed. Obviously, it wasn't flashed but.. sorry.. just confused. And excited! This will be interesting to examine... to say the least!
In light of not being able to use a custom kernel yet, he's doing it with a kernel module I believe.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
.... I really don't know what to say about that right now...
How hot's the device runnin?
How long is the battery lasting?
Is the device still stable? (NOT FREEZING...)
These are things we need to know!
And we will, in time. Not rushin, just really shocked and excited at the same time...

I've been using it for a daily driver for about one month now. I consider it stable enough as a daily driver as do many other people do.
The only annoying thing is mute/unmute. But it annoys my friends more than me because they start off saying "hello???" and then I remember to do it
The mute/unmute thing isn't much of an issue to me. Its only happened to me once. The only thing that bothers me is GPS but other than that its a good daily driver. Also one of the things that I really like about it is the T-Mobile theme engine. It makes switching themes a breeze. Being able to watch Netflix on my phone is great as well.

I found this today: http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/12/h...0c#comment-6a00d83451c9ec69e2015438b1fba5970c
It's Honeycomb for Evo View 4g (my bad). I'm betting devs here will 'fix' the issues below before Sprint/HTC does... Or maybe they can use some of its code to get Sense running on ICS??
The provisos:
Your homescreen will be reset to the default HTC settings after applying this update.
Illuminated hardware keys will be disabled since Honeycomb already includes corresponding on-screen buttons.
If you are rooted, proceed with caution: you should only apply this update if your system/app folder is completely returned to stock and you have flashed your stock recovery image (not TWRP or ClockworkMod); otherwise, you will encounter errors.
Additionally, you will lose root after applying this update. The safest way to update and keep root is to wait for a developer to figure out a way to apply this update without losing root.
Its for the view. The tablet. Not the evo

Modest as well.
I saw a thread elsewhere in XDA about this, but lets make it all about the Evo... because different phones can do different things. That being said, I am an ICS junkie, and coming from GB the one thing I really missed were the screen transition options and customizabilty of the launchers for it....Sure Apex and Nova are great, but lack the holy sh*t factor many GB launchers could give you with themes, icons, docks, and screen transitions. I haven't heard about this launcher in the Evo threads, so I figured I would share with others who hadn't heard of it either. Once you figure this launcher out, you will fall in love with it and what you can do with it. It plays well with ICS roms.. even HWA ones and works well with GB roms. Give it a shot, you won't be dissapointed. It evens gives you an option to save your setup in a zip file to share with others. Everything you see is fully customizable even down to the font.
Here is the market link for free version
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher&hl=no
I will start with my ICS setup - AOKP 33.
GB to follow!
