Lcd density - Streak 5 General

Hello to all, someone can change as the density to 180 or 200 and that does not make you FC with the calls, thankĀ“s.

"LCD density " from market

Hi, I've changed to 180 but from time to time I have FC, especially during the long calls (more than 30 minutes)
edit: my streak runs the official dell froyo

I run mine at 240 and it seems fine. I did have some FC with stock dialer at 180 though but I switched to Incoming Call Plus and it seemed to fix the problem.

Then that you recommend 180 or 240

Sounds good if incoming call plus solves this issue, because due to these fc I was afraid to use a 200 or 240 density...and to be honest for my old eyes 160 is too small.

I'm only 26, I have pefect vision and I found 160 too small. The best thing about running at 240 is widgets are now the correct size. No more tiny Pure Grid Calendar in the middle of my screen

I just installed Incoming Calls Plus and so far like it. My density is 180, but it makes the title of the ICP buttons cut off. What is it like at 240?

Better as it was written for around that density.

I am running 02 froyo build 319 . if someone has any tips to help me fix this . thank you in advance .

I have position 240 and it me works well with the next calls with plus, nevertheless it does me fc with that I do, they know some solution?

Hello to all, after doing several tests to know because towards FC with the calls with 240, I have put the configuration of networks in GSM and it me works very well, at the moment I go the whole morning speaking and it works perfectly.

@tonime does it mean that you have to modify network configuration each time you use 3g network?
Regarding fc, it looks like the only possibility to avoid it during phone conversation is to use the classical 160 density.

i use 140, 180 and others make things looks bigger and i feel like wasting the big screen

After much experimenting I have decided 240 is my preference. I find the "feature" of Dells Stage not rotating to landscape at 240 LCD density really useful, because Stage is really poor in landscape at high densities due to the bad positioning and scaling of the dock bar (for some reason its thicker in landscape).

Solution to all the problems with lcd density, we install Dj Steve's rom to ourselves 1.7.0 it works quite of marvel.
I have 240 not fc and one sees of marvel.

Error in Phonebook app when DPI set to 180/160

I just noticed a strange behaviour....
Starting with this rom, but I checked and is so also with other builds.
I'm used to change my DPI density settings to 180, for have a "larger" screen and use 6x6 rows*colums with LauncherPro, to have more widgets on the home screen.
I noticed that setting the DPI to 180 (in the build.prop file) causes an error when going in the contact slide, in the part where you can "link" your contact with their facebook account.
As I click on the "chain" to make the link, the contact app closes itself with this error
processcom.android.htccontacts has been terminated
So I did some tests and it seems that the problem is only with dpi settings of 160 and 180, from 190 to 240 no problem at all.. it works without errors...
Sense ROMS aren't really compatible with LCD Density changes. Use a Non-Sense one if you like having more on your screen (like I do).

Yes, you are right.. the strange is that the erro happens only below 180...

Lcd density

Anyone messed around with lcd density yet? I used to have my old galaxy on around 215
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Since many of us dont have the phone yet, you could imagine that would be tough
Why dont you give it a shot though. btw i think 200 will be amazing, since the screen 4.3, but i dont know how the ui will hold up. I remember on the sgs1, some of the apps, ie music, etc, looked odd since it didnt fit properly.
I realised we need root first but its not far off lol
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Using 200 at the moment, text quite small though.
Im using 225 now, the auto rotation button on the pull down was misaligned and it annoyed me lol

Big thing for me this. I like 190dpi.
I presume 'LCDDensity for Root' by Elviss Kustans, can change the screen density until you reboot. But without root 'LCD Density Changer' by Beansoft won't be able to change it permanently.
I'm looking forward to full CF root (I'm looking forward to getting my phone first )
Works with LCD Density Changer mate, the root is fine.
dont you find text a bit small on 190? lol
and how does it look on a smaller density? are all icons etc ok? because on my ex-dhd with sense 2.1 it looked pretty strange

I use 167 on my hd2, and it is perfect, more is too big.
Shame it messes up the samsung widget bar on the notification screen the ones with two words have the line through them
Yeah, thats the problem with lower density's on manufacturer skins. on a stock build like nexus s, lower densities look crazy good. some apps have problems though. I think maybe in the future once custom roms start getting made, maybe the chefs can change the framework so things dont look misaligned.
Ibasket still looks awful on 225... i got round the dialer by using go dialer...
Just rooted and installed LCD Density Changer and when I set it to anything other than the default my wifi won't connect unless I forget it and re-add the password.
Has anyone else experienced this?
after rooting, action (1) installed ADW, action (2)dropped my res to 200 with LCD changer, if I wanted my phone to look like an IPHONE I would have bought one

Figured this one out. When the phone does a soft reset (I think that's what it's called, one where it reboots from the screen animation only) it won't reconnect the wifi until it's toggled on and off. Setting the screen density as the default so the device fully restarts with this density set each time seems to fix this issue.
Rooted and now running at 196dpi. Its so much better than 240dpi.
I was thinking to myself that I was getting used to the stock dpi, then I rooted and realised how wrong I was lol!
Only problems are the drop down toggle menu and the dialer, which have already been, mentioned.

I can confirm Go Dialler (download Go Contacts from Market) works a treat

Has any one tried LCDdensity

Just wondering if any owners tried changing the density manually or with lcddensity. Wondering if touchwiz recognize any change in the density. Would love to change this to 200
Will definitely be playing around with the density when I receive mine.
I'm just curious as to what changing the density actually does. Since obviously you can't physically change the screen density, what is the advantage of tricking the phone into thinking it's different via software?

Usually changing the density makes the screen look more high res by making everything smaller and fitting more information on the screen. If your still using your galaxy s try out lcddensity and change to 200. Touchwiz on 1st galaxy s didnt adjust well to changing the density. default is using 240
Was the first thing i did. Set mine to 202 out if habbit, as most devices get issues with wonky UIs at 200 or below.
Device looks great on 202. The only thing that distorts slight is the quick access tools ( sound and screen rotation only) in the notification bar.
The posituve outweighs the nefative for me.

+1 for screenshot. I run my DHD at 190. I use LCD Density Changer which has a compatibility mode to make problem apps run full screen, but it needs root

[Q] Smaller font (Working?)

Okay, great device... but really annoying that most apps don't make use of the extra real estate on the screen. Most apps are just blown up versions of for example the Galaxy S2 apps. Meaning most apps are the same but 5.3/4.2 = 1.26 times bigger That's at least a pity The contacts app displays the same amount of contacts on a screen as the Galaxy S2 or S but... with a 1.26 x bigger font (compared to the S2) and 5.3/4=1.33 (lol) x bigger font compared to the Galaxy S
Fortunately there seems to be a setting in the accessibility settings that allows the user to decrease the font in some stock apps. Unfortunately this doesn't work. At least not on my device. Anyone got this working?
And yes, ICS would be a great improvement for such a big screen device.
Is that possible to set another density for the device (maybe you have to root it first)?

You'd have to root it first, and then push the density down. Not ideal, as some apps then run in a box on the screen, but it does make for smaller fonts, and you can cram more widgets on the screen etc.
I run my HD2 at 160, but then again I have had my eyes lasered!
Root
Go to system/build.prop
Open in editor
change the value of lcd from 240 to 192
See the difference.
U can always go back
All apps wont be scaled to the new lcd value.
eg: TW in sgsII does not scale.
However i always used this value and did not use TW.
Looks very interesting but I'm afraid that I'm not s pro

I think change the font size setting in gingerbread is for display text in text editor or web browser instead of the launcher and most other application as they have their own fixed font size. You cannot do anything to those applications as they has been programmed that way.

With stock apps I mean the Samsung apps. In the accessibility settings there's an option to change the font size "in the following applications: S planner, Email, Contacts and Messaging" (as stated in the accessibility settings)
Unfortunately this setting doesn't work on my jk4 rom. Maybe others have luck on other roms. Seems like a very usuable option for the note.

My lcd.density (or so) was set to 320 on stock!
I changed it to 280 and the system looks now nicer!
Actually, I measured the tab and my calculation would be around 270-280 dpi.
Has anybody other/better data?
By the way, 1st problem after changing lcd density is in S Memo! Background seem to have a fixed 'smaller size' which are then placed wrongly
Another impact: The email-widget does not fit on screen any more (using Launcher Pro) ... Hope in ICS they will fix some of those screen size problems!

I didn't try it myself yet but I bet it will give a whole lot of trouble with almost every Samsung app on this xhdpi device. Like HTC, they exactly target the screen for which they write software. Unlike most android apps in the market, targeting screens with different specs isn't important. Scaling isn't a requirement for these stock apps. ICS will not solve the problem, because it is still up to the developer which screens will be targeted.
Anyway, back to the original question, I think it is safe to conclude that the font setting doesn't work for anyone. So it is a bug.
I have rooted my phone and tried to use Spare Parts to change the font size to Extremely Small. It works instantly and make the application much more usable. But, there is a problem: The font size will change back to Normal after few hours by itself. Anyone has the same problem?

that method also won't scale down graphics to match the smaller fonts. LCD Density Changer accomplishes that and works well.

Have You Changed Smallest Width In Developer Options?

I have mine set to 525 dp. I prefer having really small icons and text. Most of all I like forcing the tabbed UI in Firefox. I haven't noticed any real disadvantages.
I am curious to know what settings you all use besides the default one.
Yes. Using 702 dp
Is there a standard set of sizes that can be used that don't cause any display abnormalities? I see 525 and 702 and that I'm running 454 as per smallest OOS visibility setting. These seem like random setting but I'm sure they aren't.

600 seems to be the point where it reads as a tablet, as Chrome starts to have tabs at that setting. There are some other settings the device doesn't seem to like and will jump to the next highest number it likes. Example: setting it to 598, will automatically make it set to 600. Did not notice any abnormalities other than icon placement, which can be adjusted.
I messed with it the other day and my launcher wasn't changing. Anyone else have that issue?

Spotify calls my 6T as tablet even in smallest delault size. So I guess evvery app has their own definition of when a mobile becomes tablet.

I always used to set my phones to tablet mode, but at the moment it seems to break Google lens so I've had to set it just below. I don't really like the full width notification shade and lockscreen notifications, and miss chrome tabs.
Also, how does it affect the status bar \ notch?
it's dpi and screen ratio the wm command is easy way or get app that changes it
I use 600 in developer settings, font smallest, and screen smallest... I still have the original swype apk and prefer the 'tablet' version of the keyboard. This, and the fact i have a lot more 'real estate' are the primary reasons I set it to 'phablet' mode.
i mistakenly increased it to 600 and my device isnt working
I have changed it to 1200 and now pocof1 cannot load anything. Is there a fix to this?
hi can someone help me I recently changed mine by accident and i put it to 200 and now my tablet is on black screen if i hold the power button i can see the options to power off restart and lock it , i restarted it multiple time and power it off and on multiple times too . can someone help me
