Ok i have sent a-many PM's to ppl asking for help.
So now im trying this.
I want to add WirelessTether to my "ROM", however if i just add it to the \data dir the program FC's after the ROM is installed.
I have searched..no really i have lol i cant seem to find anything to lead me in the right direction.
So if someone in the Community could lend me a hand in some DEV i would be very appreciative!
How are you copying it? Which version of wireless tether are you trying?
ACS had it working "out of the box" in their 2.1 ROM. i think it has something to do with a data or config file in /data/data. otherwise, once you install the ROM if you go to applications > manage apps > wireless tether > clear data i think it will work then. not 100% sure but i think thats how they did it
im using 2.0.6 from code.google.com.
clearing the data doesnt not work.
and i do think you need a config file but idk were\how to get it.

Hi guys, question, I can't get wifi tether to work on my netbook.
It's there anything special I have to do to the netbook in order for it to allow the connection because it says connected but the internet doesn't work, thanks in advance.
From the Subject Line, I though your were trying to tether your WIFE.... sadly, that is not something possible in most cases.
i had this problem, it was because i swapped out sd cards and didnt have the bin file on the new sd card..just Delete and reinstall the program, and a newly generated bin file will be placed on the card..should work!
Go to Menu -> Show Log. If you don't see something similar to
Loading bcm4329.ko module (fw_bcm4329.bin from /sdcard/android.tether)...
Click to collapse
then you need to follow the instructions at code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/Setup_HTC_Desire_Incredible
Thanks guys.

I should have waited before posting this...hours later I lost mobile data...probably has to do with editing the framework-res.apk so I had to redownload cm6 and flash it to get mobile data working
If anyone has a solution I could send them the zip I was flashing....

If the only thing you did was change the Icons then its not what caused you to lose data..
Changing .png files within apks is probably the most simple mod you can do and I would give it another try. Cause unless you messed with some xml file i doubt its what caused your issues. You can actually edit apks pngs without unzipping or apktooling.
I wish I could explain it -
all I did was take 4g icons from the Epic - rename them to their 3g icon counterparts in CM6 - I opened the apk with 7zip and dragged them from my desktop to the folder
the only snag I hit when doing that was renaming them again inside the apk - because they were being named: random4gimage.png.png because I didnt have windows set to show known extensions - perhaps if I didn't do this it would have worked better? I honestly think that cant be it - but you never know - considering I have never edited an apk before that -
I didn't edit any other files - I didnt 'sign' anything before flashing it considering I dont even know how to sign files -
but I def would love to know what caused me to lose mobile data so I could try it again without thinking I may have to RUU again
This is all probably over my head but, would Metamorph provide some sort of work around for this.
Guys, a .png has no control whatsoever over 3G data you get... it's just like a paranoia effect that's spreading that you lose 3G from this. You won't lol.
If anyone is brave enough to try this. If not I will flash it tomorrow when I get to my Hero.
I accept no responsibility for what happens to your phone.
I have not tested this out as I do not have my Hero with me at this time. Also, this is the first update.zip I have made. I'm not 100% on what I'm doing, I used these instructions here to create the folder structure, and this application here to sign it.
If it works, awesome. If not, I apologize in advance.
Instructions:
- Copy 4g-icons-heroc_signed.zip to your sdcard
- Reboot into recovery
- Make a nandroid backup (or two if you don't trust me - I wouldn't either)
- Flash 4g-icons-heroc_signed.zip
- Reboot
It is my sincere hope that this is exactly what the OP was trying to accomplish.

No, I know it is paranoia...lol...I just began to lose interest in it...but I tried flashing the 4g update using the nov2 blackmod rom and it sent me into a boot loop
Sent with the xda app using CM6
The bootloop could've been caused by a difference in the framework-res.apk files. When you flashed it, the whole framework-res.apk was replaced, and was likely incompatible with the ROM version you were using.

I just flashed this to my own Hero and ran into a slight problem. My Hero doesn't have service. However, I did pull the framework-res.apk and upon looking at the files I changed they did stick. No bootloops or force closes at all. I'm happy to say that I believe this to work and I hope that someone else will try it and post whether or not it works for them as verification!
Just a quick question, probably just a setting, but I used to be able to download roms on my phone off here...but now the phone won't let me? Says unsupported file can't download? Any ideas? Using dk28 kernel with epic experience 2.0.03. Thanks!
Settings
There is a setting in astro file manager that will allow browser to download any file type
Thank you!!! I figured it had to be something simple.... Do you know by chance how to disable 270 rotation?
I think i remember in the epic experience rom thread they figured out how to do it .
This is what schizo said but i have cyanogen on my evo again and waiting for a reason to go back to epic , but as i flash gingerbread it may be a little while
Code:
windowsmgr.support_rotation_270=false
So basically I figured if false means "off" then true must mean "on"... simple, I know.
I changed it to this...
Code:
windowsmgr.support_rotation_270=true
And it worked!
Now I wouldn't recommend blindly changing things in your build.prop unless you absolutely know what you are doing since this file can do a lot of damage as well if its not configured right. Also, I would recommend always keeping a backup of your original build.prop file if messing with it so you can always revert back.
So there ya go, 270 rotation.
yeah I knew about that...used to work in eclair but can't seem to find the code anywhere in froyo... Thanks for all your help though

use this WiFi Tether for Root users. Just download...go to applications and check "unknown sources"...install the app, and you're good to go.

Hey guys. I know I'm new here and it's probably been answered somewhere, but I can't find it. Here goes - One of the WLAN networks I use most is protected by MAC filter. Yes, it's necessary. The thing is everytime I flash a new ROM I need to change MAC address in network configuration. Is there anything I can do to keep/set a constant MAC? A script or something?
My kernel is the latest Dorimanx kernel 6.4.

I remember reading a thread where one guy had 2 HD2's and they both had the same ROM on it. And he wasnt able to connect both HD2s to his router because the router only would accept one MAC address. It wouldnt accept two mac addresses of the same value. I remember him being successful in changing the mac of one of them. But i went back to page 18 and couldnt find it again. Im trying to search but i cant find it -.-
EDIT: Found the thread,
use a root browser to change wifi mac address.I recommend root browser lite.Go to /system/etc/ folder.Find and open for editing the file "calibration" and in the first line you will see the wifi mac address.Put another one, save the file and you`re ready to go

But we are on CM7 not sense. So i found this but i havent tried it as i have no need. I havent found anything else so i hope that works.
(that's not what he means, i don't think, , i think he already knows how to change teh mac, but wants a script he can run once when he changes rom so that he always has the same mac for every rom, without having to manually edit it every time, something like provxml did for winmo.)

Thank you very much for the reply, but I can't seem to find this file. I'm using rooted ES File Explorer and it's just not there. Should it be there in ICS too?
