As the title say. How can i remove some of the start menu items??
In advance Thanks
Start menu?
Do you mean homescreen, program menu, or programs that automatically start when you turn the phone on?
Windows has a start menu!
hehe, I'm a old windows user
I mean program menu

Probably have to uninstall the app to remove its icon.
Or install something like 'Apps organizer' to group together apps with tags.
is there not other way to remove icones
(ex. I use handcent sms, so it would be nice to remove the pre installed sms icon from the program menu)
Why even use the program menu?
Create your shortcut to Handcent SMS.
I just have the programs I actually use on the homescreen, e.g. handcent sms. The program menu will show all installed apps so it can get a bit messy there and I don't know of a way to fix that.
drag the icon into the trash bin. when you press and hold the icon, drag it to the menu tray. it will get it off your homescreen.
Because your an x Window user like myself im guessing you want to organise your apps in the apps menu because its getting messy as there are loads just in one long list!
Unlike in windows where you could organise them into seperate folders for example: Games, Tools, Media etc.
If this is your issue its something i looked into when i first started using Android. As yet ive not seen a solution.
There is an app that does some sort of tidying maybe it was mentioned in this thread.
If im on the wrong lines just ignore me!!

I don't get it.
I just installed Apps Organizer.
Whats the difference between this and using Folders?
There is no app that organizes the app drawer.
AppsOrganizer helps organize them on homescreen(s).
I recall an app when I had my G1 that created folders in the app drawer. Launcher2? I think?
Maybe someone else knows.

That'd be pretty sweet.
Abc Organizer:
1. You can assign icons to your "folders"
2. You can back up your "folder" configuration to your SD card
3. You can customize the sorting of the app shortcuts, like most used first (on top), last used first, alpha
That's about all I can think of at the moment. It's not that great if you have a simple config and don't mind folder icons on your desktop.
Apps Organizer, I believe, is similar, but doesn't have contacts/direct dial or url support.
What I really want is when i press the program menu button, at the bottom in the home screen. That I come to a organized menu with my favorites at the top and some programs organized in the sub menus.
Is there no way to make this happen?

Correct. As far as I know, this is not possible.
I too wish it was possible, because I would love that feature. I don't need things like Amazon MP3 sitting there being useless and taking up space.

I beleive a home replacement app called dxtop can do what you want. Not sure about the other ones.

Once your apps are tagged, you can create shortcuts to app-organizer tags (folders). If you tag more apps they automatically appear in that tag folder, same with uninstalling.
Other benifits include:
1) tag one program with multiple tags (labels), ex: tools, gps. This will make the icon appear in both folders.
2) long pressing on an icon in a app-organizer folder gives you options to change labels and uninstall.
3) new applications go into a default "other apps" folder, so you don't have to hunt for them later.

yes this is exactly right. i use it and love it on my N1. THis is 110% the answer
Lets say I wanna change the icon shortcut link to Handcent instead of the default Messanger, theres gotta be a way to change it. Hopefully without rooting.
No way to change them. This feature and app menu options where removed from the epic.

I'd call that a workaround rather than a solution: I'm hoping for a solution via root or some other hack. Maybe it'll be as simple as editing a text file?
Quoted from the thread you said didn't have the solution. This might work for the other buttons as well, if you clear the defaults in said applications. That is done under the Settings > Applications, find the app and hit the "Clear Defaults" button.
Just download Handcent. When you hit the messaging icon at the bottom it will ask you if you want to use the stock app or Handcent (then you can check - remember this choice). Now whenever you hit the SMS icon (it will still appear to be the same...). It will open Handcent.

I'd call that a solution if it also changes the launcher icons to whatever application you're setting as the default. Does it work that way?

The 'Default Messenger' is not listed under Manage Applications, there is one for Handcent but that only makes it the default if you go through your contacts and select the 'text' option.
Otherwise it doesn't change the default launcher icon to open handcent and it doesn't change the logo.
Thats the one thing that is crappy with sprint is how they default their stuff and hard lock you in on it, same with the market place. They must have 3 different versions of the 'Sprint Marketplace' that has the same stuff as regular market place.
They also changed the Downloads section you click in Market to the name of 'Sprint', its like "wtf are they thinking" and it just lists a couple of average free apps under it that are already available.
This is stuff that I hope can be changed without rooting in the future, but it looks like the roms might be the saviour of this phone. SCHEIZA!!!!
It's "sprint's recommended" downloads. Yes, it's annoying, but it's better than locking you out of a ton of apps like other companies.
I'm searching for an option (App, Mod, deleting a file with Root Explorer, ...) to sort the apps in Touchwiz Application Drawer in grid view alphabetically.
just go to settings / Applications / manage installed applications (or something like this), set applications filter to "show all" and wipe application data of samsung "Home" application.. btw, doing so you'll lose all your home screen settings (widgets, shortcuts..)
I already know that, i should have mentioned that i don't want to loose my home screen settings.
I like my apps sorted alphabetically in the app launcher, but i don't want to reset my home screen settings each time i install / deinstall one or more apps.
same here. too bad that's the only way I found atm..
Why not just arrange it alphabetically, thats what i did.

Is there something to manage your app icon locations on your pc like with the iPhone? I can just drag and drop and create menu's via iTunes.

Any ideas which files are deleted if i delete the application data of the Home Application (as mentioned above)?
The app order ist saved in /dbdata/databases/com.sec.android.app.twlauncher/launcher.db. If you delete the file and restart the phone (i think restarting the TW UI should also be enough) the apps are sorted alphabetically but unfortunatelly it also deletes the Homescreen settings.
So it would be necessary to sort the entries in the database file, which i can't do
I have looked at the db. It should be easy to backup the favorites table (home screen) and restore. Thus a simple workaround would be:
1. Export favorites table (home screen)
2. Delete the db file
Restart system/TW
3. Import the table
Restart system/TW
Maybe someone could write an app for Android, to directly sort the apps table (all application screens). However some apps are only referenced there (for example com.aldiko.android.samsung/com.aldiko.android.samsung.ui.Bookshelf) without full names. There must be a way to find the app name and sort alphabetically. It's doable.
Why not use TouchwizGTG?
IIRC you go into the settings and view as a list, then you can sort alphabetically. then just change the view back to grid and it sorts it.
think thats how i used to do it. got the TouchwizGTG now so cant test my thoery.
hope this helps, Matt
@ Rumble6059 that doesn't work. Only works for the list view, not the grid.

Upz for TouchwizGTG!!
+1 for TWGTG
Not being able to auto sort the grid view is so stupid. I just switched the list view which isn't nearly as pretty. Oh well I don't go in there often anyways but at least when I do I can find something in fairly short and predictable amount of time.
As has been stated, TouchWiz GTG already has this functionality already and more...
Search in market for TouchWiz Application Sorter.
It requires rooted phone and stock TouchWiz 3.0.

Hi,
I would like to change the default dialer program on my Samsung Note 3 which is rooted and installed with Xpose. I am sorry but I am new to Android and not sure how to get this done. I haven't installed any custom ROM's at the moment but thought there would have been a way to make the default dialer program. Although I tried installing many programs like "Contacts+", "RocketDialer" and others, none of them show up in the "Complete Action Using" Menu. Only the Samsung default dialer is presented.
Yes I have reset cache for all the Apps and tried the same too.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for your revert but only options I am getting are 3 apps, Kaspersky Av, Skype and touchwiz phone. I have already tried clearing the app for Phone as well as reset all apps.
Also downloaded "default app " from play store but no go. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I think there's either something wrong with your Xposed configurations, or you might have to try a full wipe.

Have you tried disabling all Xposed modules and eliminating all possible problems?
Well the short answer based on your setup is that touchwiz will not let you change dialers. You can download them from play store but it will only be for you to call out with. If you get in coming phone calls it must be handled by touchwiz dialer.
I've been trying to get an AOSP dialer to run but no joy. I've deleted all phone apk files I've deleted all contact apk files all that happens is I loose connectivity with cell providers.
Enough googling and it seems touchwiz must have its own dialer for incoming connections.
I'll keep trying tho, never know.
Not much help I know but at least it's an answer of a sort.

For sure you can set the default SMS apps though, I have set them many times, but I use 8sms right now as it is to me the best alternative to BiteSMS on the iPhone 4 (during the old days haha!)

In regards to incoming calls, I used rocket dialer and was able to see their screen. Touchwiz wasn't invoked. But when trying to make outgoing calls, although rocket dialer is invoked for call logs and contacts, as soon as I hit the call button, touchwiz is invoked.
I guess the option then is to use custom roms which I dint want to install.
Head over to the Galaxy Apps Store and update from Good Lock 2018, to just regular Good Lock and experience the customization we've missed so much in Pie!!!

Most, task changer will be available at later date (I guess when they release the version for S10, right now it's not supported). The multiwindow extension (multistar) is bringing back:
1) swipe from corner to pop-out
2) the menu between two split screened apps
3) two apps running at the same time, that way your game won't be paused when you open browser/viber/something from the gametools menu
Hope they bring back easier way to fast split screen tho as right now if I wan't to split screen the current app (in my use case mostly youtube) it will pause the video + when you call recents it always auto move to the previous app, so I need to swipe, then press the icon, then split screen, then the other app I want, then resume video... too much time needed vs the previous "hold, select app - done, no video pausing, no waiting, no nothing". Maybe when recent task changes is released we will get something... we will see. For now we got atleast some of the functionality back.
Task Changer was available for me, but Routines gives me an error saying "Product is not available in this store." (I'm in Canada).
Neither Task changer nor Routine were available for me but installed, and are working fine, from apkmirror
Couldn't find it on the galaxy stored and downloades the apk. But I'm just getting this when I open it. Is there any way to get passed? I'm guessing that my region is not supported, or something...

Soliciting some help... I've installed all apk's I need, creating shortcuts w/ Activity Manager, except for Quickstar. I'm able to create a shortcut for it but it doesn't work (ie. the app doesn't open when running the shortcut). The app runs though when running it from within Activity Manager. Anyone have an idea how to fix this? Solved!

Routines is not showing at all in Good Lock. I even side loaded it and it will not show up.
Task changer/routines is also available now. If side loaded, the "good lock" app will give network error and will not work. You should create a shortcut for every plugin via "activity manager, shortcut maker app of some kind". Then open them directly. For the task changer, if you change it to one of the alternatives - it will let you hold a card to split screen or pop-out + when you open recents it will NOT pause your activity like playing youtube or playing a game, that way you can pop-out something without pausing anything or split screen with youtube while it's playing - really a nice one.

Like what? Haven't noticed any so far.
For people with region not supported, the vpn trick still fully work. First, uninstall if you are sideloaded the app. Next, eject your sim n reboot. Connect to wifi and use vpn to US like tunnelbear. Go to app info of galaxy store and clear data. Open the galaxy store and update/install latest good lock. Open good lock and update all the apps. Then you can reinsert sim card and turn off vpn while setting up the apps
"App is no longer available" is all I get...
Does anyone else drop the colors in Quickstar? They seem to disappear randomly and I gave to reapply them. It's quite annoying.
