Heya
I have an issue with the headphones that came with my DHD. The player control on the headphones has suddenly becomes unresponsive. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A very random behaviour.
Anyone experiencing this ? Any suggestion how to solve this ?
Cheers
MJ
Make sure it is plugged in correctly.
Try cleaning the headphone jack and blowing in the headphone port on your phone, preferably using some compressed air. Might be some dust or grime blocking the connection.

Sorry to hijack thread but related to this, does anyone know good earphones with a remote & mic that will work on the dhd?
I was looking at the klipsch s4i's but they only spout on about iphones and don't want to drop £80 on a pair that may not work.

I got those. The mic works, but not the remote. Good sound in them.
That's a shame, really fancy some decent klipsch phones, currently use s2's which are already great, but would like to keep remote functionality. I wish HTC had made the remote and mic so they'd separate from the buds cos the earbuds suck.
Anyone know of a good set of earphones, preferably not too pricey, with a working remote?
I bought the NU Force NE-M7. Great sound and with a mic. The mic has only one button for answering/ending calls and play/pauze.
Oh, and only for around $50,- Allot of other people give positive feedback on the earphones on the internet.

i've been looking at some bluetooth headphones for a while, and i'm really looking for something thats an in ear style, and not too bulky especially when i'm on the go. these seem to be the best fit...but has anyone used them at all on a kaiser/tilt/tytn ii? i know a few people say that they're running into connectivity issues w/ some bluetooth devices, but i wanna know if this will work w/ the tilt
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/pro...980?cc=us&lc=en
amazon has it for 105, so its not lookin too bad with me...
i has this in 60€ to sell.
sound quality is great, best ive tried.
only problem is after a phone call it will not go back to music and instead will drop the bluetooth link. fairly easy to reconnect by pressing the play/pause button on the headset when this happens but annoying all the same.

I have the HBH-DS970 and it works very well - great sound. I don't know what the difference is with the 980 - I don't see the 980 listed on the USA accessories list. My guess is that it would work well for you.
I'm so done with wired headphones. Having to spend hours detangling wires is tiresome. I've now opted to only using bluetooth stereo headphones, like the sony one I'm using, which is lightweight and doesn't have a bluetooth unit to carry around!
The only other wired headphones I'm opend to are the 'mini bud' headphones which have retractable wiring:
http://www.boxwave.com/products/minibuds/index.htm
just got the headphones a few days ago, i think thursday. the quality is great, my sister said that the phone quality was good, she heard me just fine. pretty good bass response, the only thing i've had problems with is using the contacts menu on the headphone and getting into my phone. i think it might be more of a problem w/ the kaiser bluetooth setup though. anybody know if there's any kind of updates for bluetooth drivers for the kaiser...i'm going to check to see if theres anything for the headphones on sonys site too
Hi everyone I've searched high and low for an answer to this but the only topics I've found have related to recording phone calls...
Anyway what I want to know is is it possible to record onto the touch hd utilising either the usb socket or the 3.5m jack? I'd like to record things onto it using an external microphone because the inbuilt one distorts very quickly (I'm a percussionist, so any of the assorted things I try and record often make it start resonating and then you can't hear anything at all!)
Obviously the alternative is buy a cheap minidisc player or similar, but I just wanted to see if it was possible with the touch, as it saves me carrying an extra piece of gear around...
Cheers
Hi you could try a bluetooth hands free speaker/microphone, there ment for cars etc so maybe they do a better job than the built in mic.
this is the sort of thing I mean http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-T305-Bluetooth-Speaker-Black/dp/B000JKKE5M no idea if its any good or if there are better ones.
Ah yea that's a possibility, but I was also looking for a way to directly plug it into things, cd player etc, and I also already have quite a high quality 3.5m microphone, so it'd be a shame not to use it!
cannibalise a htc headset with mic
http://pinouts.ru/PDA/htc_extUSB_pinout.shtml
and connect something you can use to connect an mono input to the wire
Ahh good idea! So would this method just give me a mono input into the phone? And then what program would I use to record, the inbuilt one?
I just got my Galaxy S and tried to use my Monster Beats headset with it (as I used it with my iPhone)
The button for answering calls / change song doesn't seem to work. Anyone have used the Monster headset in combination with a android handset before?
Probably a matter of polarity difference. You would get same results if you attempted to use Samsung headset shipped with the Galaxy S on the iPhone.
Galaxy S and Monster Studio
The call volume is really low on the Studios - media seems to work fine. Anyone else with a similar issue?
probably a proprietary connection for the 4 pole 3.5mm jack.
yes, the iphone and SGS headset is not interchangeable.. indeed a difference how they were implemented.
Just like how the data cable for mobile phones are.. they are not standard mini USB jacks.. if only all of them uses mini USB.. would be easier to manage cables.

Actually the SGS use standard micro-usb as par with the OMTP cell phone charge standard:

i am using my westone um1 with sgs. music listening is perfect. but i can't answer call with it. by that i mean i can't hear voice with the headphone i have to unplug it to talk. with all my old phone i just use the headphone for listening and talk on the mic on the phone. somehow it doesn't work for the sgs,
I got problems with my 'Monster Diddy Beats w/control talk'
Did you find a fix? Are you able to play music with them? I'm not
The answer call button doesn't work, but I'm not even able to play music. The sound is totally twisted and it's allmost impossible to hear the vocal. The headset work on every other device I've tried, and regular headphones works on the Galaxy S (like noname earplugs, monster lady gaga, and iphone plugs).
When I connect threw and 3,5mm 1->2 output adapter it works. Seems like the plug doesn't fit into my phone.
The plug has 3 rubber (?) rings around it. Other plugs I've tried have to. Might that be the problem and is there any solution? All the plugs got the same length..

Same thing here. Somebody who knows a way to fix this? Does it work with custom rooms?
i think the mic and ground are reversed with samsung.
with the iphone 4pole, t/r/r/s(tip,ring,ring,sleeve) is left, right ground, mic
with samsung i think it is t/r/r/s left, right mic, ground, alhough im not so sure as i have yet to receive my phone from the local carrier
one thing to test is to listen to music with the iphone compatible headset, there should be some problem with the sound. then press the mic button. If the sound cleared up like there is a perfect closed circuit, then the mic and ground terminals are reversed. you can diy an adaptor for your headset with the proper termination
Thanks.

You're probably right. Can't really understand why though
When I press and hold the 'answer call button' on the diddy beats the music sounds like it's supposed to. The Diddy Beats are brand new and I love them. If I'm not able to fix this I have to sell either them or the phone (they are in my opinion the best highend earplugs on the market)
Is there any DIY guides I could use or even better a kind of adapter or so I could buy?
Still think it's quite weird that the sound goes through the phone speaker instead of earplugs while making calls. Should be a way change this.

well, firstly, i have the triplefi10vi which i used on my iphone, and they trump the beats by a mile sq-wise. and then i sent them to china to get remolded into custom monitors with an additional mid-range driver, making 4 in total driver count per ear, 1 up from 3 drivers per ear. they are now comparable to high-end musicians stage in ear monitors, if not better
about diy adaptor, just get one o those generic after market 4pole headphone adaptors, open them up and switch the mic and ground connectors on the plug side so they have the correct polarity when they terminate into the galaxy s but still have the same polarity on the socket side where you plug your headphones into.
about why the call goes to the speaker, maybe because the phone doesnt recognize the headphones as a proper earphone/mic set due to the reversed polarity of the mic/ground
hope that helps
I'll give the diy solution a try, hope for the best.
Anybody tried the service menu advice from this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709535&highlight=headphones&page=2
Tried but didn't understand what to do ;p Maybe it's possible to have phonecalls audio go through ordinary headphones..
Sent an email to Monster support. I'll post it here when I get an answer.
No phonecalls with ordinary headphones
I use a couple of high end headphones with my galaxy s and suffer from the stupid inability to send the phonecall audio through the phones. What about older samsung cell phones with 3.5 jacks. Can they do it? Will samsung ever fix this desigh flaw, or should I get rid of the phone...
galaxy s -> moster beats...
Hi
Anyone knows already how to fixe this?
I just spent 200$ on a monster beat...
sound is great but want to use it normally
including mic etc...
Anyone??

i've been listening to Stereo MP3 via Bluetooth since Palm Treo times, that was more than 7 years ago
what brand do you have?
is the sennheiser better nokia?
The problem with the music is that i think the wiring iphone/ bb uses is opposite to that of basically the rest of the world.
From what i can tell the ControlTalk Universal Apadtor should work but i havent tested it... can anyone confirm that it will fix the music problem?
I'm fed up with the galaxy based on these issues... maybe i'm selling my galaxy for a htc desire or buy a htc desire hd if my 250 euro headset collection is working again god dammit f*cking stupid samsung f*kkers
.
Hi, first of all, I did this thread here because I'm not quite asking about the accessories, but about a modification. But if any Moderator thinks this should be moved, please do so.
At any rate, the thing is, I'm still beaten up about the fact that the headphones bundled to the cellphone are such low quality. Ok, there are some superb phones that comes with crappy headset, but you can replace them with any other headphones you have. But this one doesn't support detaching them. That's low quality for me.
So, I went to search for detachable HTC headsets. To my wonder - or bad searching skills - I found none. All are just one-piece headset. Really?
Ok, maybe makes sense when we take into account the fact that for an odd reason, HTC headsets works different than the rest. Just incompatible with other phones.
And here is my question. Is it possible to mod this headphones? My idea is to just trim the original bundled and re-wire the plug to some kind of 4 bands 3,5 female plug, so I can connect non HTC heaphones with mic to this sort of adapter and that could operate the phone.
Or, maybe there's such adapter out there in the world? theory says I'm not the first one to think in this, but I've found nothing so far.
In resume:
a) Are there detachable HTC headsets out there?
b) Is it possible to make an adapter for non HTC headsets?
c) Does this adapter exits already and I'm just wasting time and not money?
bonus) Is there some sort of schematics about HTC headsets? I just can't guess why others are incompatible, but a different wiring...
Many thanks before hand!
.
Really? no one? :/ I cant believe everyone is just satisfied using that lousy headset or just headphones with no mic.
why bother. Any set of decent cell phone headphones work great.
I got a pair of rocket fish headphones. It comes with a mic, and a voice dial/answer button that works great on the Aria.
edit: here is a newer version of what i have.
http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/mobile-phones-gps/RF-EB22.html
Don't use headphones here, I have bluetooth in my car .
But, I'd suggest buying skull candy headphones, or even the headphones that come with some nokia xpressmusic phones are awesome. (particularly 5800).
i use these skullcandies because i mainly listen to music on my phone they have a mic on them to so i kan use the on a call if i get one while i have them on
I found that if you download a music player with an equalizer built in, you can improve the quality of the sound 100%
Hey people. Thanks for all info, been reading about the defy here for some time. Got one now and I love it. I had a few smartphones before and this is by far the one I would stick to forever if I had to.
So, my question is: Are there any good head phones (in-ear plugs, with mic and maybe even music controlers) avaliable, and that I can be certain to be compatible with the Defy? Or could I just buy any that works fine with other Android or Motorola devices? Motorola is not sold in Sweden where I live, so it's not like I can check out any stores IRL here...
With my Xperia x20 mini, exacly what I described came along with the phone. Too bad that you just got these normal plugs with the defy. Cos there is just no way I would use those. As of now I stick to my old head phones but I'd love the mic function with my In-ear plugs.
Thanks for any help!
Ekholm
Ok, so I found this site:
thinkmotoroladefy.com/wiredheadsets.html
and it's all looking good, except for the part that they are a bit low-priced. I'm looking for high quality ones. I.e my current head phones was about 90 USD.
For information, iphone handsfree works fine
Thanks!
By chance, does anyone know if "Klipsch Image S4i" would work? they seams to be perfect! Volume, track fwd bwd and play...
I got one of these a few months ago, works fine with my HTC Desire. Not the best headphones in the world, but more than capable of handling a bus ride. You can unplug the headphones, clip on a small plastic hook and use it as an in-ear Bluetooth headset too. Two birds with one stone
I can get around 10 hours out of them between charges.
Thanks, it seams to be mono, right? Mono doesnt sound too thrilling...
If you use power amp you can set it up to use the controls on headphones to start and stop music, instead of calling the last number you called. It will work on the lock screen too.
This was the only way of getting it to work i found for the defy and i tried about 10 different headphones with in-line controls. Bluetooth stereo sets like the one above with controls seem to work fine for music however, ive got a sony bluetooth set and the controls worked right away on the standard media player.

Hi everybody I'm new,
Does anyone can confirm this pinout for Defy's jack 3.5mm?
1. Tip - Left audio
2. Ring - Right audio
3. Ring - Ground
4. Sleeve - Mic
or this used in most mobiles:

I use Razer Moray+™ they have no remote function so you have to answer the call on the phone. But you have a mic and the work good for musik and phone calls.
anyone got an update for this, still looking for ear buds with a mic.
Klipsch Pro Media set(based on the S4i but a bit better build for traveling etc).
Awesome set up with defy. The S5i rugged set is also great as they are moisture proof and very overbuilt.

Yeah, exactly as you wrote.
I remade cheap handset with remote (from eg. www.ebay.com).
It works with any headphones
I used my original headset on a iphone before. So I assume that every headset that works on the iphone should also work on the defy.

Would be good if they work.
BTW, I tried Samsung Galaxy SL's Stereo In ear handsfree and the sound quality was just awesome! Might get myself one of those!!
I've tried the iPhone standard headphones and sound works but Mic and controls don't. There is a pair of sennheiser mm50 Nokia. Which will work fine. Ordering one shortly.
Hi
I can confirm that at least not all iphone headset work the defy, even if the pinout is identical. I tried the Sennheiser MM70i and they don't work!
I soldered the mic of the standard Headset to the MM70 and now im happy,
but definitely nothing i can recommend
