They did it for the vibrant... why is it so impossible for the g2?
Maybe it is impossible but hey I don't blame the op for asking.
HTC Vision S-OFF CM6.1 Stable Oc'd to 1.5ghz on Pershoots Kernel

i think that depends with the platform itself. if the platform support front camera, i think possible, offcourse, you need to trace where the hell the front camera pin

They could do it to the Vibrant because it was just the Samsung S from Europe all T-Mobile was take out the camera.
The G2 never had a FFC.

You have by far, the best "sent by" message of all time....mad props dude.

You guys are dicks. It's not that outlandish, especially with all the custom firmware out there. Give him a break.
If you guys never heard of XDA or any of these Android communities and someone told you all the amazing things you could do with an Android, it'd be hard to believe at first. Don't be so smug.

I agree that it's not the most ridiculous question, and I actually do have the technical know how (at least from a hardware standpoint). Still though, the answer is no.
As stated earlier, since the Vision was not designed with a front facing camera, the appropriate pads are not there to solder on to, assuming the correct camera (or a compatible one) could be found. Without those pads, it would be difficult without both the schematics for the phone and its PCB board file (since often time chips on mobile platforms are now BGAs, there are no pins to solder on to so we would need to know what vias or test points are connected to the appropriate pins. It may also be a bit of an involved process to figure out a way to mount it all, just mechanically. One option would be if there are USB based cameras in that small a form-factor, since USB lines may be easier to trace out (not easy, just easier). A USB-based camera would have to have some kind of micro-controller on it though, so probably not small enough (or if it were, then most likely prohibitively expensive). Then, as someone said before, drivers would need to be developed for it (though this might not be as big an ordeal if it were USB-based and supported linux to begin with). So not impossible, but probably not worth the effort when new phones are coming out all the time.
And to the OP, don't be discouraged from asking questions like this. In my opinion, as long as you make sure you read through the wiki's and do a search first to be sure you aren't asking a question that has already been answered a hundred times before, you should feel free to ask things like this. Everyone has to start from somewhere...

G2 overclock competition

As of late I haven't really heard any more news of significant clock speed gains from other higher end phones such as the Droid X/2 or the SGS phones.
From what ive read the X/2 overclocks were overinflated fibs and the OC method used in the SGS phones overstated their true clock speeds. Anything that I have missed?
I watched a competition like this once...
It was done at a dyno shop amongst members from a Nissan car club.
It was all fun and games until someone exploded their 1000hp Skyline engine.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA....

Ahhh, the beauty of trying to sound witty on a forum.
One would never assume the OP graduated with an associate degree in automotive technology in early 09'. Now that I've stepped out of my realm of expertise into this forum and asked a simple question (at least it's not in the dev forum) I would like some serious input if that's alright. Just proud of my phone that's all.
BTW, the correct terminology is detonated, not exploded and it can be caused by any number of issues...my money is on either a boost spike or lifted head.
Seriously not trying to be an ass here, the g2 has gotten some press over this issue lately and its legit unlike the other phones.
Thanks dude.

not that i am against overclocking(this is the first phone i overclocked and i set it to 1 gig) but other than "because i can" why do we need it faster than 1.9? sometimes i like to put my phone to my face to talk on it and i would like to keep from needing skin grafts. do any of our apps really NEED anything more than maybe 1.2?
psx4droid runs great at the higher speeds as long as you keep an eye on the cpu and battery temps. I have the 1800mhz Zimage on my phone right now but I keep it restricted to 1000mhz via setcpu.
Really I see it as about pushing the boundaries for the sake of knowledge, if I could compile my own personal kernel I would but being on the verge of going to pharmacy school and work both keep me too busy to learn how.
This thread isn't really about why one would do it, it was just simply asking how the g2 is fairing against other higher end phones.
I'd love to see something like this as well. Sooner or later, we're going have to start installing heatsinks on to our phones.

man, i like your style!
this is a great idea.. but: plates must be very close to eachother, and it's unuseful if the plates are close to other parts themeselves; don't exceed with the paste: it must be a small quantity that, pressed, it expands itself close the the edges of the component
if it doesn't work, you can clean the paste with some alcool, using a cotton-fioc ( you know, these little cotton-sticks you can use to clean your ears )

imagine sense on other devices, looks like android can be ported to different devices

http://www.redsn0w.us/2011/04/android-coming-to-iphone-4-ipad-and.html
I think this can be pretty cool. I always wondered what it'd be like to run a superior OS on other hardware. I wonder if eventually bugs can be worked out and we have it running smooth or will it just stay a buggy port. Maybe we can port a gingerbread sense dump and have it running flawlessly. Who knows anyway thought i'd share...
While I prefer Android, iOS is good stuff.
iPad, iPod, iPhone, etc... it's a niche market. Why anyone would waste their time getting Android running on an iSomething is beyond me. Hardware wise, the iPhone4 isn't impressive (except for the screen).

I think it's interesting. I've been following the iDroid project for a long time now. It just makes sense. I have an iPad which has fantastic hardware. Software....not so much. If i could put android on it and NOT have to purchase another device, awesome! It's good to hear they've finally made some headway on it all.

actually posts about 4g cities are relevant because people can use their 4g evo's in those 4g cities. the whole purpose of those threads are to alert people in those cities that their evos are more functional.

I actually like the IP4 hardware, if it had a larger screen (~4.3 in) and a flawless Android port, it may just be may favorite device. In reality, HTC makes good hardware and I love my EVO, though it is not as sleek and polished as Apple's hardware. Unfortunately, iOS leaves too much to be desired for me to consider it as a daily OS.

Here is what i wrote,
Signed/Encrypted bootloaders... Come on HTC... This really pisses me off. Think about it, really, what are you losing here? Almost nothing. It is the persons choice to root, so you lose no quality control.
But back onto the actually point. Signing/encrypting bootloaders or other functions of a device that a consumer owns was considered a radical idea. It was frowned upon and was thought of as childish. And that is how you guys are acting, childish. You lock down your phones because your scared of what.... progress?
I understand there are some problems for you with rooting. For example, free wireless tethering, ability to use leaked ROMs and other factors. But this is such a small hand off to wage war with developers. Microsoft did it, Sony did it, even Apple did it.... Look were they all are now. The hackers do everything they can to make sure they can hack and DOMINATE the devices they lock down. In Microsoft's and Sony's case, there is a difference in reason, piracy. Now, tell me, if I can already install any app on my phone, what piracy are you protecting users form by not allowing them to do anything custom with their phone?
You have brought the whole world a step backwards, as a lot of people believe in your philosophies, and eventually will standardize them. What this about to start is enormous, there is no problem right now for you because people aren't even trying to hack your gay signature checks. Why? Because those developers DONT BUY THAT PHONE. ------->DONT<---- Buy that phone. Now, once that this standdard is implemented with every single modern phone, you guys will be tormented by the constant stream of hacks and exploits the a full force of developers can bring. You will be stressed to the point as the iPhone jailbreaking scene replicates itself to Android devices.
I mean come on HTC, do you really want to start all of this? I wouldn't. By not locking down your devices, you gain more customers(even though its a small percent that would leave because of your decisions), you gain a better view from people as a good company, and you get the benefit of geeks saying good things about you on their blogs. Yes HTC, thats were all the reviews come from, US. We will spare you no mercy in our reviews if you condemn us to this treatment any longer.
On a final note, i hope to rethink your decisions to sign/encrypt bootloaders and other parts of the phone. The whole point of Android is to be OPEN, not CLOSED. Thats what makes it different. The point is to be open, no matter what COST or FACTORS convince you otherwise. I do not even want to buy the HTC Evo 3D now because of your changes. Now HTC, rethink what you have done, please, and see if you can change it before it gets out of hand. In the end, you are the company that gets to make the decisions, but we are the consumers who buy your products.
Thanks so much for a great ride so far HTC,
You will be missed

Well at least you'll admit it - that's the first step, I guess. Moron? Do you even know what the word moron means? Apparently I have "mild retardation" because I asked how to sell a phone. That makes sense.
And this is General Atrix forum. Development questions go in the Development forum. XDA, true, began as a development forum but has obviously expanded. Check the rest of the threads in this General Atrix forum - most have nothing to do with development. If anyone has mild retardation, it seems to be you, because apparently you can't read (note: illiteracy is a sign of mental retardation).
Thanks for the tip on Craig's list! I'll check that out. The lag comes in when you use a launcher with animations with LWP. LWP works, just not well enough for my tastes (I bought "the most powerful smart phone in the world" so things like this wouldn't be an issue).
The OP isn't really looking for help. This is just an attempt to take a jab at the Atrix veiled as a request for assistance.
At least that's my take on it.

You're probably partially right, just bc I am pretty frustrated - but I was really wondering.

You had to google, that, didn't you?
Also, illiteracy has nothing to do with mental retardation, at all.

This site is called xda developers just so you know, and this is the general section... Not the useless section. (note: thats Q/A )
The atrix general forum is filled with confused people asking for help and giving advice. There are questions about the atrix in mexico, how to enable 1080p recording, how to get better battery life. Then there is you... Asking how to trade the atrix. Just say it to yourself... How to trade the atrix...
I'm glad your just discovering the interwebz but scooby doo is less confused then you.

Mine runs SPB Shell and live wall paper without a hint of lag or a hicup of any sort.
Simply put....from your short ass first post it looks like this is the biggest problem you have with your atrix.
Just sayin'.

Side track.. That's cool... I think spb mobile is pretty badass. I thought with all that hardware acceleration it would be horrible on battery but it used about as much as adw which is practically nothing.
Goes to show op, worlds most powerful phone is pretty f*cking powerful. Let the software mature, or jump ship the nexus is a great phone. Just whatever you do don't tell us

When Are We Getting a Better Working Sense 4 and Android 4 ROMs?

At this point, things that don't work are the things I need to work. Nothing has changed for nearly two months now, so I'm just curious.
the impatience and greed around here is unbelievable...
if you want something to be fully working and perfect, you gotta make it yourself. plus rushing things isn't gonna do any good at all. it will come, just be patient... be glad we even have a Sense 4 ROM...
Dude, seriously, it was a question. That's it. Not a complaint, not impatience, and not greed. The assumptions of others on this forum is what is really unbelievable. I knew that some joker would answer back like that.
Saranhai is part of the team that brings a lot of ROM's to this device. He is probably a little frustrated that it seems like is never good enough, or fast enough for people. Your question may have been honest and purely innocent, but with the way things have been around here lately his reaction is somewhat understandable.
Several devs are hard at work on sense 4 kernels and the camera. When they have a usable fix, it will be released. If you want to add to their resolve you could always donate

I'm patiently waiting too. And so you know, I'm posting this in a good mood, not frustrated or being smart. But from what I understand is its basically at a standstill until devs can get the necassary kernel to get the camera working. It's not that they are being slow..they simply don't have what's needed to accomplish it. And I may be entirely wrong..that's just what I have been thinking.

Okay. I understand, not saying anybody is being slow. I just wanted to know what the issue was. It's crazy that Sense seems to be the most troublesome UI.

Take it at face value MF. It's my fault that you put your own thoughts into a simple question? Seriously, it's all too common on XDA for people to needlessly attack others on the basis that people are too sensitive.
See the answer that JJ gave? That's all that we needed. I wanted to know the issues the devs were facing? If anything I was concerned, because I've never seen something give this kind of trouble on this phone. We all appreciate the works that devs do. We all act like kids in a candy store for the work that devs do.
Team Inferno member ...Awesome... is releasing a One S port. Yes, One S. Hope that fits your needs (besides camera )

if you did any searching youd know it all depends on when HTC releases the 3.0 kernel and we can get some kernel devs to port it to our devices..
did you really need a thread to ask for an ETA on something thats not even meant for our phone? cmon son lol
I too am impatiently waiting for a upgrade

I think it got a little hot outside to the point it heated everything, even in the internet.... xD
The issue is that there's no HTC official kernel source for any "sister" devices - DHD/DS, and they didn't get the HTC ICS update either. Without the kernel source, devs have to use kernel source from other, less compatible devices to compile the kernel, and the binary drivers from those devices don't match the HW. There are no skilled enough and/or willing enough devs to dig in the kernel code and rewrite the API towards the drivers to match the older, working drivers from Gingerbread (that's what was done back in Gingerbread release time), mostly because it's a huge work that brings almost no benefits - the official code is likely to be better anyway, and its release will most likely be closer to this point in time than the shortest time required for "enthusiast" work.

I think in layman terms, that means if someone attempted to rewrite source code to match the h/w in the Glacier, by the time they would finish, better & more compatible code would be here anyway. So its best, at this point, to just wait patiently?
