[Q] Changing SD cards? - XPERIA X8 General

I've got rooted 2.1 on my X8 with app2sd on it enabled. I did all that on my 8GB mem card, but it is only class 2. So I wanted to swap to 4GB class 4 card, did xrecovery backup on my phone, partitioned 4GB card, did restore on 4GB card, but mobile just stand on first SE logo.
I even tried just copying things from one card to another, but it didn't work as well
Is it even possible to restore something like that or I would need to flash my mobile again, and install everything all over again?

not dev related, moved to general
gl though
Best, DK

I have Cyanogenmod 4.1.999 Installed on my G1
It currently has a Class 4 4GB SD card and I want to put in a Class 6 8GB sd card...
How do I do the switch without deleting any user data?
Is that possible?

Try the switchrom.sh script (link n my sig). It allows you to take a snapshot of your entire system (well, the parts that matter anyways,) zip it and store it on the Fat32 partition. You can then pull that zip to another properly pre-formatted SD card (via PC), then stick that card in and run the restore command. You should end up with a fully functional system with all apps and settings intact.
or you could do a nandroid and just reflash with that sdcard in

[Q] Strange Problems with new SD Card running nand apps2sd

Had my HD2 for over a year now and finally got fed up of lack of WinMo apps, which my housemate with his iPhone loved to point out all the time. So I decided to try out Android a few days ago.
Read all tutorials etc and installed Skink's clean desire rom v1.3 using cwm. Got everything set up and was really pleased with my shiny new phone. Everything was working like a dream!
I decided to get a new 16 GB SD card as my 8GB card was full of music etc. Here is where the problems started...
To get all data onto 16GB SD card:
I partitioned it using cwm using same size partition size as on 8GB (1024mb)
Copied all files on 8GB fat32 partition onto 16GB fat32
With the 8GB SD card in the phone did a backup using cwm
Copied backup onto 16GB card inserted it into phone and did a restore
Now the fat32 and ext3 partitions on the 16GB card and 8GB card should be the same, so everything should carry on working fine when i boot up my phone.
It didn't I just kept getting lots of stopped unexpectedly errors until finally everything stopped loading even the home screen, and I'd have to remove battery. However if I just put my old 8GB card in everything worked fine as before
So after much frustation I gave up on this method and decided to just wipe everything on 16GB card and start from scratch:
Formatted 16GB card
Repartitioned it using cwm
wiped data, cache, dalvik cache
installed clean desire rom from sd card
booted up started reinstalling all apps etc
Now here is where things get very strange, I'd start reinstalling apps and reconfiguring to how it was before and then randomly I'll get a stopped unexpectedly error, like process.android.media or something similar. But it seems as if everything would carry on working, then slowly I get more errors until for example as soon as you click on internet you get an error and it closes.
I believe the problem lies with the sd card seeing as that is the only thing that has changed. I also think this rom stores more than just apps on the sd card. Because after I get a few of these stopped unexpectedly errors nothing is saved on the phone. For example I'll change the ringtone from x to y click ok, but when I click back on change ringtone it's still on x. But I can still play music that is stored on the sd card. After I reboot the phone for a while I can make changes and they are persistent but eventually I end up back at this strange state. It's almost as if I can read from the SD card but not write to it.
Another example when I've got to this strange state, I'll add a folder to home screen, add apps into etc. But when I restart the folder has gone.
If I reinsert my 8GB card and do a restore, I get everything back and it works perfectly. But I want to use my 16GB card, that's why I bought it!
My questions are:
Does anybody have an idea of what is going on when it gets into this strange state?
Does anybody know how to fix it?
Is there some way of testing the SD card?
Should my first method of getting all data onto new sd card have worked?
SD Cards are:
Samsung 8GB class 6
Transcend 16GB class 6
Sorry for the long post, any suggestions are greatly appreciated

[Q] New SD Card

I'm putting anew 16gb card into my nook to replace the 2gb that is currently in. What do I need to do to make sure everything works correctly? This nook running CM7 is only 2 days old so I really don't have installed yet.
If you plan to use the card for running CM7 or phiremod you need a sandisk class 2 or 4 card. If not, there are no card issues that I'm aware of. If you're asking about moving your apps I'd just reinstall. Titanium Backup is the preferred app for backing up and restoring apps if you want to try it. There are threads about moving CM7 card installs to larger cards. I think you just image the old card, put the image on the new card and expand the partition to fill the new card.
I found a Sandisk microsdhc 32GB class 4 on amazon for $59.
Would it work?
"Would it work?"
Dunno.
This thread is the clearinghouse for all info about which sd cards work for booting. There's not enough information about 32GB cards yet to know how it would work. That's a decent price though so it might be fun to get one and try.

[Q] Android won't read SD. Recovery does.

Hello everybody.
I got a new phone so I switch the 16Gb card that came with the X10 to the new phone and the 4Gb card from the new phone to the X10.
The new phone reads both cards fine, but X10 only reads its original card. However when I enter xRecovery in the x10 I can read both cards with no problems. I have formatted the card and still cannot be read by phone when Im on android.
Both cards are fine, can be read in other phones and in the PC, what could be the problem? the x10 uses wolfbreak's GB rom, the other phone is a Froyo Optimus Black.
Regards, and thanks in advance
Sometimes Android doesn't play well with our SD Cards. As such, Download the SDCard Formatter from https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
1. Backup your SD Card
2. Reformat using the formatter
3. Transfer your data back to SD card
4. Enjoy a working SD Card
Let me know if it works.

Why my HD2 android won't start with my SD card?

My HTC HD2 works with my Transcend 4 GB microSD card, but it won't android won't boot up with my 8 GB Verbatim microSD card. Do I need to format it or something? Thanks!
Are you sure you have the correct set up ? (Files are copied to their destinations)
Try to format it to FAT32, and try again.
I`have just formated it to FAT32 and still the same problem. What files are you talking about?
PS: Sorry to bother you with "stupid" questions, I am pretty noob in this
I have read that Verbatim SDCards can cause problems in the build; booting or running, SanDisk is your best bet, but you may still be able to get it running,
Im not a dev; just brought SanDisk as a result of this,

It depends on many factors. Which Android Rom do you want flash, does this need Ext 3/4 Partition on the SD Card ? Do you have flashed the right partition size ? Read the installation instructions of Rom you wants to flash, there you mostly find all information.
Are you talking about NAND or SD? If NAND, make sure the ext partition is set up correctly, as this is where a lot of the apps are stored. If SD, then I would assume you know how to install an SD build so it could be a problem with the SD card being incompatible as alex.odell.2011 said.
I've had similar problems sometimes with my SD card; my HD2 wouldn't boot unless I took the card out then put it back in once it was booted. The only thing that I thought might cause it is something CWR related on the SD card, since I had used it in my Hero and Droid 1 as well to flash ROMs to them. It was a class 4 16 GB Sandisk, if that helps at all.
